The room was clean and well maintained, pillows were nice a firm however the bed is extremely hard and very uncomfortable I got hardly any sleep. We had a pool view room which was very nice we walked right out of our room and onto the pool deck. The espresso/coffee machine in the foyer was amazing best coffee I’ve ever had at a hotel. No one on property to help assist with anything so kinda weird because what happens if you have any problems?

For what we paid, we expected more. When we arrived, we still hadn’t received the check‑in text. With no one on site, we had to call, and it took about 20 minutes before we could get in.

Once inside, the space was clean, but the water pressure was extremely poor and the TV didn’t work. Any time the AC ran, the floor became very slippery throughout the room, which felt unsafe.

We chose this location because of its proximity to the amphitheater, but overall the experience didn’t match the price. The next time we visit STA, we’ll look for something more suitable.

Only stayed for one night, so don’t have a lot of input. Room is clean. There was some difficulties with the key and I didn’t have access to the main lobby but staff to do their best to clear that up quickly.

The room was smaller than expected. There was just a full bed, but it is fine for one traveler. Unsure if there was construction on the second floor above me, but it was extremely noisy at all hours. It was clean,great parking and location.

This is a contactless property so basically like an Airbnb, but unless I read wrong, it’s not advertised anywhere, and there was multiple other people who did not know this check-in was not the easiest because they kept sending the wrong code to open the lockbox. Room appeared to be clean towels and bedding are old and tattered, stained there is no housekeeping again not advertised. Rooms are small and basic images are kind of deceiving. They definitely get the good angles walls are extremely thin. I will not be recommending it to anybody. For the cost we could’ve stayed at an Airbnb and had the same amenities for cheaper.

The Local is conveniently located near downtown without being in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Easy to order Uber eats or Uber rides if you need to it’s also very close to all the shops in restaurants located on A1A. One of my favourite things about The Local is their coffee which is locally sourced from Martin in Jacksonville.

Our stay at The Local excellent overall . The road noise can be a little loud in the evening but it gets better later in the night. The cleanliness was a 9/10 and comfort was a 8/10. The room could use a comfortable chair for relaxing. The pool was a nice bonus even though it was a little cool for a dip. The staff less operation of property was not an issue. It was much like renting a vacation property through other agencies. We would stay again.

Remote check-in was efficient. Responds quickly to text. This is an older property but has been maintained. Room was small but fine for solo traveler. Walkable to lots of good restaurants. There is road noise as it's located on A1A however I'd say the loud motorcycles from Daytona Bike week increased the noise level. Room was clean. The flat sheet is old and was \"rough\" from peeling. Overall, room was a good value and I'd stay here again.

Our stay at this location wasn’t ideal. The floors were really sticky. The bed had stains on the sheets YUCK. The water was cold so we had to take really cold showers. The room behind ours had people fighting and they kept us up. Unfortunately not a good stay and won’t be returning here.

Stayed here for two nights over New Year’s Eve. This is an older style motel that sits right on a busy road. The walls are somewhat thin as you do hear road noise and your neighbors. Highly recommend staying on a top floor on the backside of the motel. Obviously the pool is not heated so I did not use it but it is a super cute area and would probably be very refreshing in the summer months. You are close enough for a healthy walk over the “bridge of lions” into historic downtown or conveniently rent one of the bicycles from the motel. The motel is in a very walkable area to restaurants and bars. Would recommend staying here for an inexpensive option close to the historic downtown area.

I would like to let management know that we were very disappointed in our stay. The bed didn’t have a blanket on it or a blanket in the room. It was around 40 degrees on 12/31/25. The heater didn’t go on and off to regulate the temperature in the room. It was either on or off. We slept with our sweatshirts over our pj's. The air purifier showed the filter needed to be changed. The towels should have been replaced a long time ago. I took pictures to show how worn and frayed they were. I've donated better looking/ feeling towels to our local animal shelter. The coffee machine downstairs didn’t work. My husband went to get coffee this morning. Another guest came in and said the coffee machine didn't work the day before. He contacted management and was told it would be taken care of by the next day, which would have been today. I sent a text this morning about all of this and received a generic AI generated response. I have never written a bad review but for $300 a night, I expected better. I understand it was NYE, however, the pictures on the website are NOT what you get.

This motel was extremely dirty, as shown in the pictures I included. One of the towels was stained, there was a small stain on the sheets, and we also found a few hairs on the bed. The floor was dirty—I walked barefoot for just a few minutes and my feet were black afterward. It felt like any cheap motel, just decorated in a cuter way.

The check-in system was very quick and easy, which was a plus. We were only here for a few hours during a road trip, but if you’re planning to stay longer, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The check-in process is on your phone. So make sure to text the number before arriving to get your code. The room had an odd smell like the filter needed to be changed. The room was cute, but no chair in the room, and the walls were very thin. Between the dog barking on one side and 4am couple fitting in the next room the stay was not very quiet. There is also no breakfast. And no one to ask to get linen from.

Well, I’ve stayed here before and I find that it’s a very cute place and it’s clean but the air system in the rooms are horrible. It’s very human and wet and sticky. You feel like your hair is heavy. The air is very humid even though the air condition is on, it does not get rid of the humidity. The floor was very sticky, and it was a very uncomfortable to sleep. I can’t explain what I’m trying to say, but the air conditioning system does not get rid of the humidity in that room that is something that needs to be looked into. Other than that, it was a pretty good stay.

This property did not have someone in person in the front office. They did self check in online. When they sent me the code they sent me the wrong code. I arrived late at night, tired had so much trouble getting in touch with someone to get the right code. To add to this this hotel does not have an elevator therefore it was an inconvenience for my mother who uses a cane.

I’m very disappointed to arrive and find that this is the second room that has not been properly cleaned. When booking a room, guests expect it to be clean and ready upon arrival. I came to St. Augustine to celebrate my birthday and enjoy my first visit, but instead, I’ve had to spend time cleaning the room myself. Your website and social media posts are very deceiving when it comes to the actual condition that this motel is in. (Completely run down).

The communication process was basically non-existent. My first confirmation notice said I had to download an app, Virdee, to receive checkin information. I did and my phone number was not in the system. I called the number that was for the local property but that number did not work. I called the corporate number and the guy told me they were updating their system and not using Virdee anymore. This was literally the next day! I then receive another email reminding me to put the app on my phone in order to check in. Emails to the company were either not answered or not answered in a timely manner. At 3:10p.m. I received a message saying my room was almost ready and that I would receive checkin instructions at 3pm. We arrived at the hotel with no checkin info and there was a sign on the door with 4 different numbers to text, so I did. I heard nothing back so I called one of the numbers. A nice girl told me where the lockers were to enter a code to receive our keys. The locker was unlocked already! The room was not as cute as pictured and described. I think the owners said they tried to keep as much mid-century details as possible. Hardly. The bathroom (while clean & newish) had very modern tile & backsplash that looked nothing like mid-century. There was an air filter/purifier in the room and when we checked it was absolutely clogged with dust! The drawers all smelled like mildew because the inexpensive furniture (laminate? presswood?) had water damage inside.

The mattriss gave both of us a very bad backache. I called for a roll of toilet paper morning and evening, and two different people answered and assured it would be sent, but no toilet paper arrived. Outside the door, rusty water flowed across the walkway from the air conditioner.

This property is absolutely adorable! The care, attention, and painstaking love put into this property is noticeable in all of the little details and personal touches everywhere. I adored the local coffee in the lobby as well. My husband and I had an amazing stay. My only (little) complaints were the stiffness of the mattress, and the finicky door access at night/early morning. However, the hotel lets you know about the issues with the doors, so it's on me for not requesting a physical key after checking in.

I’ve been staying here regularly for over a year on an almost monthly basis. It just gets worse and worse and I won’t be back again. The big issue is there key system. You have to download an app, upload ID. Sometimes the auto key works and sometimes it doesn’t. The link once sent me to a fishing trap that subscribed me. I have had neighbors trying to break down their own doors at 2am to the point where I was going to call the police. Currently waiting in the sun and humidity on a Sunday morning for a maintenance person to show up and let me in. No manager or help on site. I have tried to hang in there with this cute boutique motel but I’m done. Didn’t even get into the worn out towels, bad mattresses and backed up drains. They need to address these issues. Ratings are going down and you are losing regulars.

Better then expected

The room was spotlessly clean—bathroom, bed sheets, and overall space were well maintained. However, the bed was a full size rather than a queen, which made sleeping for two adults a bit cramped and uncomfortable. The mattress and pillows also left much to be desired in terms of comfort.

We had difficulty accessing the room using the app and had to call for assistance, which was inconvenient. The shower had very poor water pressure, which impacted the overall experience. On the plus side, the room came equipped with an air purifier and a noise machine, which were thoughtful additions.

There’s a swimming pool available, though we didn’t get a chance to use it.

Go to heck Virdee.

The hotel is an older establishment rehabbed. It was comfortable and I would stay again except for the lack of a lobby with check in and services.
The hotel tells you to register with Virdee which is an app that is going to supply you a combination to a lockbox with your keys inside. The problem is with 5 couples, 3 couldn’t get the app to work. A call was made to some outside person who gave you instructions and took your credit card info over the phone. There is no one on site except a cleaning gal in the early morning if you have an issue. The rooms are comfortable, the pool is clean but the hassle is not worth it for them trying to save a buck or two.

Knew this was not the Ritz but they went overboard with technology check in that was a HUGE pain for all 5 couples checking in. Process was quite challenging and had to call multiple times even though they tried their best not to have human contact. We all got to Motel @ 3 for check in and ALL had issues getting into our rooms. Finally got our digital key on our cell and then given code to get our hard physical keys with a rep on the phone. Physical keys were a joke and never worked. Had to constantly pass phone to wife to access room if we went anywhere or wait for one another. It's not like we are tech challenged as 6 of 10 are engineers and all 10 tech savvy.

Don't expect to take a warm/hot shower as water was never warm and forget hot. I realize they are cutting cost by not having a front desk but don't want to experience this lack of service at the price we paid for another motel.....

This was an old fashion MOTEL from the 50's at best and not a newer Hotel but was renovated within last 5-10 years. Not somewhere I would want to stay again.

The property was fantastic! You check in through an app and it gives you your room and key through your phone. There is someone available to give you a physical key but we never needed one. The room was clean and super conveniently located. We ran out of toilet paper one time and all you have to do is text, and they will bring whatever you need right over! Fantastic for a girls trip!

This motel is conveniently located along a busy strip with all that's needed for a fun stay at the beach or in St. Augustine. The decor and vibe are a fun retro beachy feel from the 70s. The room was quite small, but well equipped and neat. Our bathroom shower stall was not cleaned well, nor was the floor, however. Remnants of the past guests were found in both areas. The pool area is clean, cute and comfortable. We requested a room not adjacent to the busy commercial strip, and were granted one, which I greatly appreciate. The only noise level were the guests coming and going from their parking spots directly outside the room door, but that is to be expected in a motel. All in all, it was a cute and tidy spot that we would visit again while hoping that the cleaning is more thorough.

The app mobile key only granted me access to the lobby, NOT my room!
With no human staff on premises, and multiple phone calls unanswered..
I had to scramble to find alternative lodging, losing hours of my priceless time and sleep!

The property is advertised offering digital check in. The app required for check in was not functional for the pre check in process. I had to place a call to complete this process before checking in. When checking in there was also an issue with getting a digital key on my phone. Not a contact free property as advertised. I was given key cards for the room by the housekeeping staff at check in, as were others checking in at the same time.

We spent an hour (roughly 5-6 pm) trying to unlock the door to our room with phone access. There were no employees onsite. Unsuccessful after many attempts working with the phone rep. We understood that a person would be arriving onsite to help us. This never happened. Total malfunction of their automated system. We canceled the reservation and received a full refund.
We were lucky to find another hotel so late in the evening. What a total disaster this was! Never again.

The hotel was as expected! The floors were sticky and there was an air purifier in the room but the filter light was on and the filter was dirty. There was a dog in the room next doo that we heard barking loudly until we called and then it was resolved! The traffic noise didn’t bother me, the AC unit is a bit noisy but I love the noise to fall asleep to. The customer service team was very quick and helpful when I called once about the dog (they didn’t have any rooms to move us to but they did reach out to the room to ask them to resolve this), and I also called again because our mobile room key stopped working. We waited outside for 10-15 mins and the housekeeper brought us 2 physical keys that worked the rest of the stay. The beds are definitely not super comfortable and the pillows were very thin. Not bad for 1-2 nights if you’re looking on the more affordable side!

Clean. Cute theme, which was coordinated inside and out.
No staff on sight, but was prompt and courteous help by phone.
I really wanted to love this place, and recommend it: but…
Terrible check in system!!! App wouldn’t work, spent way too much of my time in advance, day before, and day off trying to get it to work. Still was a failure.
Mattress needs replaced! Maybe okay if you weigh 100lbs or less. Both of our backs are sore, from two nights of the mattress!

Great spot!

Our stay over Valentine's Day weekend '25 was absolutely fantastic! The Local really knows how to provide a cozy and comfortable experience for this time of year. We had a single queen room at the front of the building, and we were thrilled with the updated bathroom and the mini kitchen area, complete with a fridge and microwave.

One small suggestion for The Local would be to add a sitting chair in the rooms. It would have been perfect for reading or relaxing while using my laptop. I woke up early one morning and didn’t want to disturb my spouse and baby, so I ended up sitting on the floor to get some work done! It wasn’t a huge issue, just a nice-to-have.

The location is absolutely ideal—just far enough from the hustle and bustle of downtown St. Augustine, but still close enough to enjoy all the amazing restaurants and sights. A couple of our favorites were Osprey Tacos (great for dinner and a brew, just a short walk away) and the delicious breakfast burrito at Mojo Tacos right across the street.

Overall, we had an amazing time and can’t wait to return next year! We'll definitely be upgrading to a bigger room as we expand our family!

Worst customer service in our whole travels across the Country.
The app to get into your room never works and no one answers the phone when you call for help.
The rooms are small. AC doesn’t work.
We got locked out of our room several times and had to wait for over an hour to get in. We were in St Aug for business and we were unable to change for meetings as a result of the poor service here.
They are way too focused on their flamingo wallpaper and should focus way more on the quality of stay.

I stayed 3 nights. I never had warm water for a shower. No manager on site. Phone number always 'busy'. First text said \"they were aware\" of the problem. No fixing. No resolution. No compensation. I waited 6 days before writing this review hoping they would make things right. Nope. Digital hotels w/ no humans to interface with makes it easier for owners to ignore the customer. Lesson learned.
