I believe they are renting out rooms by the month to people. It was a kind of shady. But our brain was awesome cold AC whirlpool bathtub however it did not work, but it was still a really big soaking tub. Really not sure why I gave it four stars. I just try and be nice. I went back and changed it to three.

We stayed one night and we are so unhappy! Our room was so dirty....didnt notice it until later as we were walking across the floor...it felt sticky under my socks so i took a wet paper towel to wipe the floor and the floor was so nasty...my husband had to throw away his white socks...they were so black with dirt!! It was too late to find somewhere to stay so I cleaned the nasty floors myself and to bed!! Im so disgusted! Also the bath mat had hair all over it and black stuff came out of the jets in the jacuzzi tub!! And the room stayed stuffy and hot because the air conditioning did not work properly! No phone in the room to call and office door always locked and no one answers the door if you need help with anything..to be honest I think they are running some kind of scam!

The room was spacious. It even had a little kitchenette. It was very clean too. The room and property are a little worn out. If you're expecting new and shiny this is not the place for you. It gas seen better days, but nothing that a fresh coat of paint wouldn't take care of. Its also convenient to historic St. Augustine.

The room was very basic. The window curtain did not go all the way down, we had to open a few brochures and line them up for privacy. The road noise was very loud. Sheets and pillows nice clean and crisp. Bed was ok. Didnt notice any evidence of bugs, so that was good. If you just want a bed and a shower this is your place.

This is pretty far walking distance to get to everything as far as the shops and places to eat. The people at the desk don’t really speak English, so it’s hard to communicate with them when you check in for out and we went and bought a set of sheets for the bed because there was like pizza or something spilled all over the comforter. I didn’t feel like it was super clean in there, but it wasn’t completely disgusting other than that bedding, I would not stay again.

I had a restful stay at this hotel. The rates are incredibly reasonable, especially compared to other hotels in the area that are astronomically expensive, for whatever reason. The property itself feels quaint and was very clean, but what truly sets it apart is the professionalism and honesty of the staff.

A special shout-out to the gentleman at the front desk who assisted me. After a long day of business, I realized I had left my phone behind. As soon as I pulled up to the hotel, he recognized me and immediately returned it—mentioning that he was already trying to figure out how to get it back to me, and would have mailed it if I hadn’t returned. Exceptional service like that is hard to find. Highly recommended!

It was very loud with the train and other guests. No elevators for handicapp people. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. There were fresh towels. It was not close to the attractions. It was ok for the price, it has no amenities and the staff was rude.

I saw many positive reviews, but I honestly don't know if they're real. I rented two rooms for a family of eight, and to sum it up, both rooms smelled bad, the bedding and towels were dirty, the floor was dirty, and nothing in the kitchen was organized or clean. In short, the hotel's good location is pointless because it's impossible to feel comfortable in this place.

Definitely not worth the money. To call the room a suite is false advertising. Not even drinking glasses in the kitchenette. It did appear clean but outdated, Paint peeling, tiles in bathroom cracked and stained. If not for the tub area I have seen larger bathrooms on an airplane.

The first room we were given, none of the outlets but one worked which meant only the TV worked. Fridge and microwave didn’t work. Hair dryer old and rusty, also did not work. Towels and sheets dirty. They moved us to another room the second night but I will not stay there again.

⭐ Very Disappointing and Unacceptable Experience

We had an extremely unpleasant experience at this hotel and would not recommend it to anyone—especially those traveling with a disabled guest.

When we arrived, we informed the front desk that we needed a first-floor room due to a disabled person in our party who could not use stairs. The man at the desk told us there were no first-floor rooms available, so we reluctantly checked into an upstairs room.

Once inside, the condition of the room was horrible:
•The ceiling showed major water damage, clearly an ongoing issue that appeared unresolved
•There was a strong, unpleasant odor throughout the room
•The windows were completely cloudy, as if the seals were broken, making it impossible to see outside
•The bathroom sink had no plug
•The couch had large brown stains and was clearly unsanitary—we wouldn’t even consider sitting on it

Might I add they called this their “Deluxe Room”!

Because of both the stairs and the condition of the room, we immediately went back to the desk to request a refund. Suddenly, the same man said he did have a first-floor room available after all.

At that point, we had no intention of staying, yet he refused to issue a refund. We left and booked a room next door at the Hampton Inn, which was clean, professional, and accommodating.

One final concern: the parking lot remained completely empty for 3 days. Very suspicious situation and unsettling at the very least!

Pictures on Expedia portray a clean “old world “ Florida motel, what you actually get is an unkempt, poorly maintained, hell of a motel. After checking in, which was a tedious experience in its own, walked through courtyard and in plain sight is a gallon jug of bed bug killer. Inquired about it at desk and showed the picture of the jug. Was told by the “not owner” that it has been out in the Florida weather for the past three years. I live in Florida, it would not look brand new. Was not offered a refund to stay somewhere else and being a trusting person believed the man. In the room we had dirty linens, electrical sockets that were cracked and coming away from wall, safety lock broken and 1/2 inch gap between door and doorframe . Speaking of doorframes, not one door in room was clean or looked like they have been washed in years. Cracks in wall and chunk of wall missing by bathroom door. Pictures on Expedia show a cute little patio area with a grill. That grill is rusty and unsanitary with the patio area a total mess of grim and dirt. Pool area is a joke. And we haven’t even addressed the wiring in the back of hotel that is not up to code. All departments applicable as far as code violations and Florida health and safety have been notified along with pictures. Unsafe property and owner who doesn’t care. Please stay away. It’s a shame that a quaint building is in such disrepair.

The safety lock on the door was broken but there was a deadbolt. Located on a very busy and noisy street and the window didn’t block any of the noise. Genuinely the only thing good about the room was that the AC could go down to 60°. There was a poop stain on the bathroom floor, a 3inch GAP under the front door that we had to plug up with towels so bugs wouldn’t get in, and the TV didn’t even have a speaker so it was useless. Extremely outdated rooms, the key cards working are a hit or miss. Black mold was growing on the shower curtain and the ceiling texture was PEELING off of the ceiling everywhere. My asthma and allergies have genuinely never been that bad in my life. They also kicked out a father and his small child that was staying next to us to clean the room at 10:30am… when checkout was at 11am. The prices do not reflect these conditions at all, I thought I was getting at least a decent room. Never again.

The expression don’t judge a book by its cover applies here. The exterior is & looks old but the room I was in appeared upgraded. The staff seemed to have a language barrier because the woman did not understand English when I asked for a copy of my room charges. The small pool appeared clean but I didn’t get to swim this trip, one reason is the pool is open only 9AM to Dusk. Breakfast not even continental is provided but the room had a one cup generic coffee maker, good working micro & mini fridge. The bed & pillows were most comfortable I slept very well. Last but not least the bathroom was well supplied with soap, shampoo & conditioner plus hair dryer.

We'd stay here again

Check-in was easy. The room was clean along with the bathroom. We had a room with a hot tub and it was also clean. It's close to downtown and other areas so you dont have to travel too far to get where you want to go. Vilano beach is also about 5 mins away. Very cute hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

I stay here pretty frequently at different times of the year. Never had an issue until today. When i stay i usually stay for a week or so at a time. I live in the area but use this hotel to just get away and relax. The owners son has now twice banged on my door like he's swat, he's very rude, very dismissive, just really not pleasant at all. He was complaining about me having company. Since when is having company at a hotel an issue? I don't have anyone sleeping over. He said he sees on the camera it's more than just me staying here. He said he had to come in and check the room. I said he could come in he walked in super fast, went right to the bathroom quickly turned around and walked out and slammed the door. Im really annoyed with this and feel this is ridiculous considering the amount of money i spend here.

The hotel is old but the room and bath were very clean with a hot shower and great water pressure. The bed was comfortable. The room also came with a fridge and microwave. When the sink plugged up the proprietor took care of it right away. It showed us that they care about their guests. Very reasonable price.

The Merida is a no-frills budget Motel. My room needed a makeover, but I saw other rooms that were much nicer. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. A previous guest had poured coffee into the coffee maker to heat it up instead of using the microwave. I cleaned it out, but it didn’t work. The housekeeper gave me another one. He was very nice. The amenities are attached to the wall & are refilled, reducing landfill waste. However, I didn’t see a recycling bin. If you don’t mind walking a bit, you can walk to the pedestrian mall saving $20 on parking. The Merida doesn’t deserve an 8.2 rating based on my room, more like 6.5.

Some things bothered me

When we arrived, we could smell feces in the parking lot. I don't know where it was coming from. Inside the room, the bathroom door was making a lot of noise when opening and closing. We found some cockroaches. The curtain didn't block the light, and the valve that makes the shower water come out was spraying water at us. There was noise from cars because it was located in front of an avenue. Now, something about hotels in general: Why is the air conditioning next to the bed? The cold air is very bad for those who sleep. And what's more, there's no breakfast.
