Holiday Inn Express Amsterdam – Schiphol is located just one train stop away from Schiphol Airport and right outside Amsterdam, which gives it an ideal location. The most convenient and sustainable way to reach the hotel is per train which is a short 5-minute ride away from Schiphol Airport to Hoofddorp Station and from here the hotel is located on a short 9-minute walk.

Between 05:30 and 23:30 trains with a stop at Hoofddorp Station depart every 5 to 10 minutes and costs €2, 60 per person to be paid beforehand at a yellow ticket station at the airport. Alternatively, the hotel can be reached with a short 8-minute taxi ride which will cost approximately €30 one-way.

A daily ‘Express Start Continental Breakfast’ buffet is available for all our guests, which is included in the room price. The modern hotel rooms are fully equipped to make your stay as pleasant as possible.

I was disappointed with this hotel. I don't expect much from an airport hotel, but this did not meet the basic expectations.

I found out after I booked there was no airport shuttle. :(

Upon arrival, it was dark, and there was no lighting at the entrance to the hotel. It was completely dark, and if not for the 3 men standing in the dark smoking at the entrance, I would have thought it was closed.

It appears maybe they are doing some renovations, and the room we were assigned looked to be partially done. Nice bathroom, but the room had tired carpet and the beds were not very good quality.

The worst part is there was no air in the room. The windows did not open, and the centralized air system is turned off and not able to control it in the room, even to just get air flow. We contacted the front desk through WhatsApp, and asked about it. They offered to bring a small fan, which did help a bit.

You can hear everything in the halls and other rooms, and people stood outside the front door smoking almost all night, which we could hear from our second floor room (even with the windows closed).

At breakfast, they did not have a bin to self clear your dishes, and not enough people working, so most of the tables were full of dirty dishes when we arrived.

The breakfast itself was fairly decent though. Nice room and good choice of standard continental breakfast selections and good coffee. There was also an ice machine in the lobby - rare in Europe!

The rooms were clean, staff are extremely friendly and kind. The overall stay was good. The only issue was the the door of our shower didn’t close properly so we always had a pool on the floor which can be a bit messy but our friends next door didn’t have that issue and I’m sure if we had brought it up to the staff they would’ve found a solution.

We arrived early and was able to get the early check-in with no extra cost. Super friendly and caring staff. We were also able to get a lots of information at the front desk about where to dine, shop and how to get to the destination we are going to. They even printed out a train schedule and the fares for us. Very impressive!

Everything was great, from the breakfast to the room cleanliness. I would have given it 5 stars but the main issue that I had was that the shower drain was clogged and the water would drain very slowly prompting me to take quick one minute showers before the shower would flood and then flood out into the bathroom floor. I love taking long warm showers but I couldn't. And just one more suggestion that would have also made my overall experience even better is to have a minifridge in the room.

Hotel was booked for the location to the theatre nearby. This is ideal but it’s a good 10 minute walk to the local train and then 25 mins into the city and 5 to the airport.

The hotel is decent. Would I stay there again if not going to the theatre? Probably not. The trains don’t run too late so I would go and stay in the centre of Amsterdam.

The room and front desk staff were wonderful.
We stayed there on New Years Eve, unaware of the crazy history the Netherlands has with fire works and this night (seriously, you should look it up), but they had ear plugs ready for us.
My only complaint was that the bed was quite hard, but I think that is just a European thing. (Spoiled American.)
The bathroom was super nice, and the inside is very tastefully done. The outside of the building looks a little worse for wear, but you'd never know once you get inside.
Just be aware that there is no shuttle to get you to the airport. They suggest taking a Taxi or Uber, but the train station is only a 10 minute walk and it's just one stop away from Schipol. They also have busses that will take you there as well for a typical public transportation cost.

What I like about the place is the location, a good 10-15 walk away from Hoofddorp station. The area is quiet and you feel safe.

Next is the price of the room, which is way cheaper than other budget hotels, and they offer free continental breakfast. The room is just okay. Nothing grand. Just necessities like towels, body wash and shampoo. There's a kettle that works if you find the right pressure to turn it on. The bedside light does not work. You need to have your own plug/adapter for your phone because it's a 2-pin socket. The bed and pillow are also okay. There is building work outside, but it didn't bother us as we were out and about during the day.

The Reception people are not overly friendly. Most of the time I passed them, they are zoning out and kind of indifferent. Overall, I get what I paid for. Pretty basic, just somewhere to rest at the end of a long-day sightseeing.

I really appreciated how clean the room was—they also claim to use hospital grade disinfectants, which is fantastic for a germaphobe like me. I was initially a bit nervous to stay here as some of the reviews stated the rooms were not in great condition; however, I found that my stay was very clean and comfortable. There wasn’t any noisy construction, as mentioned in reviews, during my time here; however, they do provide ear plugs in the room if needed. The staff is very helpful and attentive as well—no complaints about them. The only minor issue is just a few specks/stains on the floor and some scribbles on the wall. Other than that, I would stay here again!

For the amount of room charges, amenities were very limited. The rooms were extremely tiny; not even dental or shaving kit provided. No dental kit even on request.
Breakfast very basic level; and no food available except breakfast and pizza made on order. No options for any other meals. I understand this is a basic level hotel, but in that case the cost must be kept substantially lower for the kind of facilities provided.

Even after five day stay, hotel created a big fuss in allowing 1-2 hours late checkout and asked for ten euros per hours. Seems to only want to extract money for everything.

The receptionist very kindly arranged for an early check in and brought me a piece of pizza while I waited for my room! The room was provided earlier than the official check in time which was a great help. The location is surrounded by construction and 1 km walk to the nearest train station. Some carpet stains and damage and bathroom floor stains. Comfortable bed. They charge to store guest luggage after check out.

Free breakfast makes this a good value budget stay

This isn't a luxury hotel but it is ok. Due to building works surrounding the hotel the walk to the nearby station took longer than normal. Be prepared to walk along some unlit roads if returning to the hotel from the station late at night. The carpet in the bedroom needed replacing and one of the bed bases looked shabby. The staff on reception were really helpful and some issues I had were dealt with quickly. The free breakfast selection was generous and made the stay good value.

It is really a passing hotel. We got it for our last night in Amsterdam since it was closer to the Airport. However, the area is under construction, getting to the train station with luggage was hard. Breakfast was average. They charge you for early ck and also luggage storage. There is no restaurant in the property nor near the hotel. The bed is really old and noisy. As uncomfortable as it can get. Staff is excellent though and they did the extra effort to help us ordering delivery from a nearby restaurant (not walking distance).

Though no fault of theirs the property is surrounded by construction therefore the area around the hotel is rough. I am sure it could be loud as well however we were there on a weekend so it was quiet. The hotel did supply ear plugs in the room for your use just in case. It is a fairly long walk from the train station if you are pulling your suitcases over the brick walkways. It is also a little convoluted due to all the construction.

Home base for some great sightseeing

Great location. Right by the airport, and easy access by public transport or by car. We used the car method to get around. Not for the faint of heart. Roads are VERY complicated to navigate, even with WAZE. And we have lived in Europe for a number of years, and it was still a challenge.
But the hotel gave us a place to retreat to after of days of sightseeing and getting out into the countryside of the Netherlands.

Good hotel that can be better.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Be aware that this area is outside the Amsterdam tram system. If you want to take a tram from here then you will have to pay additional for the fare or for the multi-day transportation pass.

Our bedroom was comfortable except for the fact that there are no drawers or cupboards for storing clothes. See the photo. There were only six hangers and a couple of shelves in the room. Disappointing.

The hotel web site does not tell you that there is considerable construction around it. The view from both windows of our room was really disappointing. See the photos.

The shower is very nice and the bathroom is good.

Breakfast is good. We liked the stylish breakfast eating area.

The staff was accommodating to special requests. One thing the hotel needs to change is the fact that a large, smelly ashtray is situated just outside the main door, next to the bench. You can't sit on the bench because of the smell. And the smell of cigarettes enters the lobby through the doors. Most businesses have a requirement that smoking be done at least 10 m from a doorway. We feel that should also be the case here. We pointed this out to the staff but there was no change while we were in the hotel. Manager please note.

The carpets in our floor had stains and were worn in spots. There was no safe in the room. There is a lovely park two minutes away from the hotel with live animals and walking areas. A very relaxing space.

Poor maintenance and housekeeping

Serious issues with poor maintenance and housekeeping plague this hotel. The first room we were given, the carpetnwas soaking wet. The second roon stunk like a washing machine that had wet clothes in it for a month. After two additional room attempts, one that was clean and odor free was located.
The hotel location is not great. It is a 15 minute walk to the train station and there is no bus. The hotel says it is an airport option, bit its a train ride and long walk to get there and they do not offer a shuttle.
The breakfast is just okay. The coffee is mediocre.
The staff in the lobby and bar are lovely and super helpful.
The issues with this hotel stem from poor management and bad housekeeping.
