The location was the only good thing.

They will charge 300MXN in cash and call it a government tax. You can not claim that back with expedia since they don't provide a recept. The

The beds were itchy and the sheets weren't clean, had stains on them. No hot water so you'd have to take your showers during the daytime when the temperature is hot.

Fairly nice and clean and good for a cheap price. Nice staff but would be better if had staff that spoke English. Wi-Fi didn’t work well. Bottled water should be provided free. NO extra amenities. Would be nice to have a small refrigerator in room. NIce location if you want downtown, has a few good restaurants nearby. Would be nice if TV had some English options or at least English subtitles, I couldn’t get TV to do any English. Having English speaking staff at front desk would be helpful. I would come back if I came back to town.

night manager unwilling to give a decent room

The male night manager Made me sign an agreement that said there would be no drinking in the room and refused repeated requests to give me a room in a better location of the hotel. Rooms in the inside hallway have a window that opens to the hallway so in effect, these rooms don't have a window as the window is open to anyone to see if walking down the hallway. You need to keep curtains closed for privacy.

My room smelled like all guests smoked in there. Cigarrttes burns on comforter. Dirty looking room. AC did not work. Only one receptionist at Front desk. I know it was a cheap... one night kind of hotel but it is in really bad shape. I stayed in other hotels for $30-35 night and were humble-basic but clean.

I liked that while this Hotel is downtown, the reception people spoke enough English to answer questions ,etc. They are very friendly and smiles come easy.
I liked that they had real 2 key style safety deposit boxes behind the counter.
I never bother to use them but this hotel had no deadbolt, no chain, and marks around the outside of the door jam, where people had been sliding something in to push the single lock back. Oh , and no chair to jam under the door knob to prevent entry while sleeping.
This Hotel like most I stay at shows signs of neglect, but the rooms are clean and you get hot water ,unlike several, plus the a/c works.
I enjoyed the free breakfast of 3 slices of toast, real orange juice and coffee .
For anyone wanting to stroll over to Mercada 28, this is a 10 minute walk ( but all it is ,is a giant flea market with the usual junk gift items ,cafes, and people calling you in to buy there wares ) and maybe worth a onece in a lifetime look.
If you buy anything don't pay anymore than a third of the initial price .
But back to the Hotel, I'd stay there again, but like to try different ones with each visit

Bargain Priced for Cancun

Basic clean and comfortable rooms. The rooms and the hallways are pretty dark, but hey, you're in Cancun and not hanging around the hotel anyway. Close to the Ado bus station, and it's a pleasant walk to the beach (provided you know your way around town). The WiFi only works in the lobby or by the pool, and the most reliable source was from the hostel across the street. When I was there they had a policy of having the maid turn off the AC each day, and you would have to go to the front desk to have it turned on again - it made me feel like I was being a nuisance, but the staff was happy to come by. The neighborhood is fine - I was out and about at four a.m. a couple of nights, and had no problems.

I stayed here only one night before flying back to the states the following morning. I didn’t stay in Cancun during my travels. After traveling for three weeks throughout the southern part of Quintana Roo along the coast of the Yucatán, I needed to only stay in a hotel in Cancun for one night before flying back. Hotel Maria de Lourdes was exactly what I was looking for in my one night stay. Customer service was on point. I interacted with a very friendly older man behind the front counter and a young man who helped turn out the AC unit in my room. The place was quiet, clean and pleasant which was precisely what I was looking for.

The only thing I have to inform here is the hotel does not have CCTV and I think it´s really important that cuality in any hotel. Sorry for my english, I´m from Cuba and I speak spanish. Maybe a little low noise for the cars circulating in front off the hotel. I don´t have any other complain. For this hotel.

A/C did not work. TV did not work. Very noisy. Not dirty but in a general state of disrepair. WiFi did work. Neighborhood is semi-rough but safe (?). Might be OK for a short overnight stay, but I wouldn't recommend it for any type of vacation.

No stay more than one night!

If you have an emergency take it, but no more than a night. The room had a weird smell, beds didn't look clean, washroom didn't flush properly. We preferred do not take a shower there nor use blankets.
Great location, free parking and WiFi.
They will start renovation they said... I wish the best because the hotel needs it!

Ok if you are looking for something inexpensive in the El Centro of Cancun. Room was dark and gloomy. No window with outside access. The room had a musty smell but seemed clean. No window with outside access.

Decent hotel downtown, close to social park

The pool was kept well clean, the cleaning staff was timely. The breakfast at the hotel was extremely reasonable and tasty, but I would recommend leaving ample time as the staff in the kitchen moved pretty slowly. The staff was responsive and kind, despite the language barrier. There was an odd experience the first day when several male staff members watched my friends and I in the pool, which was uncomfortable.
The park a block away from the hotel was recommended by a taxi driver. There were souvenir kiosks, sit down restaurants, and food stands.

Good hotel for a short stay

A nice hotel for a short stay in Cancun. Away from the Hotel Zone but near to the ADO bus station (a 5 - 10 minute walk away). Plenty of shops, eateries and restaurants nearby. Kind staff who will look after bags for you etc. for free (although English is not spoken so brush up on your Spanish!). Hotel is nice but rooms are a bit 'worn' i.e. it could do with a make over. A good place for a short stay while passing through Cancun.

A good base camp in old downtown

We have stayed here 5 times, a week each time, over the past 25 years. This is where the Mexican middle class stays in Cancun. The 3 story building is getting old but so am I. They don't have a bar any more and the restaurant is only open for breakfast. There are plenty of both in short walking distance. There are a lot of shops in close proximity. There are several parks near the hotel where there are fiestas every weekend. Mercado 28 is 6 or 7 blocks away and has everything you would expect from a Mexican Mercado. We will stay here again...

This hotel is great for those on a budget. The staff is good, but only spanish. The some rooms are a bit small, very old, but very clean! Also, we always had hot runnig water. I would reccomend this hotel to anyone who like us had a very tight budget. Its in the downtown area so you have to take the bus to go anywhere.

Just what \"I\" needed

The hotel was just what I needed. Came from Havana to Cancun and had an afternoon flight the following day. Got the room on Hotel.com on the internet from the airport for $31.00. Don't be intimidated by the \"Taxi Mafia\" they want $65.00 each way to take you centro Cancun. The bus is very comfortable and relaxing for $4.00. A cab ride from the bus station to the hotel was also $4.00. Being I had just a carry on, and it was a beautiful day I walked to the bus station the next day to go back to the airport. The room was nice but when I went over to the curtains and pulled them open expecting to see a view, I was looking at a hall way at more rooms. I didn't mine at that price, but if you use this hotel you may request a room with a view. There was plenty of restaurant's with all kinds of good Mexican food, mariachi bands and awesome margarita's. Also food stands all over with more authentic Mayan style foods. In the morning I had a breakfast by the pool, plenty of coffee, toast, eggs and of course beans. It was $2.50.

Checking in and out was very easy. The front desk was always there to help. The housekeepers were even nicer even though I had a few crazy nights (It is cancun you know). The room is standard for a traditional Mexican hotel and there is water in the hallways for drinking but there is no ice. This is not a five star hotel. I read an earlier review about leaves being in the pool (and this was true) but it's because it's impossible to keep them out. I saw them clean it when I was there but there are ton of plants there.

I had a good experience and would recommend this hotel to anyone even though it's not some beach palace. It did me well and I was there for 8 days.

Review of Hotel Maria De Lourdes, Cancun

Hotel Maria De Lourdes was not in a great part of downtown Cancun and a bit too far to walk with luggage from the ADO station. The room was clean, however, needed repairs. The first day there, we had no hot water. The 80s shower enclosure was corroded and leaked water all over the floor. The toilet paper spring mechanism was missing so they just place the toilet paper on the back of the tank. The bathroom door wouldn't stay shut. One of my pillows had no actual cover on the pillow and the maids just shove the raw batting material into a pillowcase. The A/C unit has no temperature control so its either freezing in the room or if its off, sweltering hot. I won't ever stay again at this hotel and cannot recommend it to anyone.

This hotel was adequate for the price. I spent my first three nights there, just to get oriented. I like the surrounding area, within five to twenty minute's walk of many restaurants and Mercado 28. The wifi was hit and miss. There is a cute, little pool area, but because of the trees above, it would not be suitable for suntanning. In fact there were no chaise lounges or anything to lie on, just a few chairs and a couple of tables around the pool. The main problem for me, however, is that they use some kind of camphor or something in the bathrooms, which permeates the room and even the hallways. It's hard to get past the strong smell of mothballs, especially in the bathroom. There are other comparable budget hotels in the neighbourhood — though they may not be able to be found online — that don't have the overwhelming smell of mothballs.

Sufficient but not entirely pleasant

The man at reception was nice, and helpful staff, no english. It seems like this was an old apartment building that was turned into a motel.

Pros: The wifi was good and the room was clean enough. The bathroom was fine and the hot water was good. The neighborhood was convenient and quiet enough.
There was nice TV with good satellite/cable. Also there was a safe private locked lot to park our rental car.

Cons: The view from the room was bleak and the beds were very uncomfortable. The room was so hot and the windows didn't open. The hallway was absolutely a sauna so it was no help opening the door. Also the room was very small.

My son speculated that we just ended up with a terrible room because we were filling one of the last available rooms, so something to consider. We had shelter for our gap night and we felt safe enough.

Al entrar a la habitación hay un desnivel que no me avisaron y casi me caigo, la puerta del baño no cerraba, el depósito del escusado no llenaba bien y había que meter la mano para acomodar el tapón y poder enjuagar el baño, cuando se usaba el lavabo se escurría el agua, la puerta de la habitación cerraba con mucho esfuerzo, en la información dice que guardan las maletas y a regañadientes me dijo la de la recepción que me las iba a cuidar un rato y me molesto la actitud y ya mejor me las lleve.

Surtout éviter les chambres du premier étage. Sale et dans un état lamentable. La Clim inutilisable fuyait, dans les vêtements en dessous ( valise trempée) les draps tachés pas changés. L'état général déplorable
La réceptionniste m'a finalement donné le lendemain matin une chambre correct(e rénovée) au 2eme étage. Mais la encore ... bref j'ai décidé de partir
Je suis partie sans pouvoir me faire rembourser la dernière nuit.
