The rooms smelt like egg, we were on the top floor to begin with which was awful to get up to. The stairs are a killer and very windy. We then complained about our room and first felt like we weren’t believed and the boy receptionist came to check our room and finally believed us. We got moved to the first floor with two separate beds which we weren’t to pleased about. In the morning got up to shower and the shower smelt like egg again, we packed up our stuff and left early disappointed and a bit disgusted. It is near some shops however the egg smell really put us off going back to this hotel

The room was on the 4th floor with no lift. The first two flights were ok but the last two were extremely steep and narrow, making them difficult and somewhat dangerous with luggage.

I didn’t really like how I had to give my key every time I left. Felt like I was being babysat. Also, I couldn’t Open my window at certain moments bc cigarette smoke would come inside from people smoking outside.

I very much enjoyed my stay here at Vancouver Studios. I like to have a kitchenette when I travel so I can prepare my breakfast in the morning. The room was very clean. The hotel was very clean. And the staff was incredibly friendly and courteous.
This will be my first choice anytime I return to London the location is quite convenient as well. Walking distance from two different tube stations.

I have been coming to Vancouver Studios for over 12 years and love every stay. Each room is a mini apartment, with everything you need to cook for yourself or reheat takeaways. There a great water pressure in every room that I’ve stayed and never any issues with plenty of hot water. The staff is so warm and pleasant and get to know guests personally. Beautifully decorated in the rooms and throughout the multi level building. I’m an American and not a fan of walking for transportation. However, the hotel is a quick 5 minute walk to Bayswater tube and 7mins to Queensway; that gives you multiple routing options to explore the city without renting a car. Great location and good staff. I liked that it wasn't this commercial chain bohemoth hotel but more of a mom and pop. The hallway and doorway were tight and bathroom small but we enjoyed the decor in the room and tiny balcony.

The staff at Vancouver couldn’t have been nicer or more accommodating!!! They were so friendly and helpful and even went above and beyond to put us in a room that was more accessible for us and our infant. The room was excellent, clean, and we would 1000% stay here again. A short walk to two metro stops, and in such a quiet location, it’s totally worth it!!

I loved staying in this charming and special property. The decor really made me feel like I was staying in a friend’s large home. It is within walking distance of many good shops, cafes, and places to eat. About ten minutes walking from Queensway tube. The staff were all quite kind. Staying here really enhanced this trip to London. As always sad to leave but would like to return.

This worked really well for me. Just a small walk from Bayswater tube, which in turn is a small walk from Queensway tube, meaning lots to choose from. Quiet street. Felt very safe at night. Note there's no elevator (at least in my wing), so if that's a dealbreaker, watch out, but it wasn't an issue for me. Good shower, sink, tea, temp of room was great, comfy bed, didn't hear any neighboring rooms, nice staff. Great. Would totally come back

The location was within comfortable walking distance to Bayswater Station, which made getting around very convenient.

Our room was situated in the basement, and while it was generally fine, we could clearly hear footsteps from people walking above us. It wasn’t unbearable, but it’s something to take note of if you’re a light sleeper.

Also, do note that there is no housekeeping provided for stays shorter than a week. It wasn’t a major issue, but it’s good to be aware of in advance.

Overall, a decent and convenient stay with a great location, just with a few minor drawbacks.

Friendly helpful welcoming staff. Hotel was in a lovely quiet location 5 minutes walk from the tube station. The room was spotlessly clean with a very comfortable bed and a well equipped kitchenette. We were on the 4th floor which was a good workout on the legs - would suggest requesting a lower floor room if you have any mobility issues.

The fire alarm went off five times over my three nights’ stay, waking me up from my sleep each time. It was always a false alarm, but I was told it couldn’t be helped. I have a heart condition and the loud sound gave me a terrible palpitations. How does anyone ever get a good night’s sleep here?

Unfortunately although the room was perfect , we arrived back to find no hot water in the shower after a long day out and about !
We contacted the reception who said there was no maintenance ,and being busy with other check ins never got back to us …
How can this happen in a hotel ? The room was located 3 flight of stairs went down to ask about the shower after waiting 20 minutes to get hot water ??
Thia obviously ruined our stay and the unprofessional attitude of the receptionist didn’t help .

Boutique Hotel, convenient location and clean

Boutique hotel near several tube lines, the staff is friendly and it is clean. The only thing there is no elevator so if you're on the 4th floor (highest floor) it is a workout to carry your luggage up the stairs as they are narrow. Recommend as it is a reasonably priced and in a good area. It is about a 15 minute walk to Notting Hill.

This charming hotel is situated in a quiet and safe neighbourhood. It is conveniently located near numerous dining options and several underground stations, all within walking distance. The rooms are modern and comfortable, despite their compact size. My sole complaint was the bed, which appeared to have been rotated and was sagging towards one side. Other than this, the hotel was excellent.

This is a charming hotel with very friendly staff. My room was tiny but very cosy. The downside is the noise from the street if you’re on that side of the hotel. I used my earplugs and slept great the first night. The second I kept the earplugs out so I would hear my alarm. An unusually high wind made the flag poles outside my fifth floor room bang all night. But I would stay here again because of what you get for the price.

The area was nice and quiet with easy access to restaurants, groceries and public transportation. The hotel was older but reasonably maintained. The initial room had a bed that was so worn and an indentation in the mattress that caused me to wake with some back stiffness. They did accommodate my requests change rooms and the 2nd bed was much better. The sign on their bathroom I instructed on how to get towel changes when needed but no cleaning person ever came into the room to check on that. I had to walk down the stairs to ask the night clerk for fresh towels because the phone in the room didn't work. London is expensive so I had to go with value which this hotel did offer.

We loved the garden terrace in the back and the staff were all very helpful. The breakfast was nice but limited (great latte).
There was a table & chairs in our room (I assume in association with the small kitchenette). However that left no room for luggage at all. Perhaps a cafe table would serve better? The beds were very comfortable and they were able to hold our luggage albeit at a cost of 25€ (which I thought to be a bit steep).
All in all we enjoyed our stay.

If older, insure the room location.

Unfortunately I arrived (76 y.old male) for a 3 day stay to find my room was a 4th floor walk-up (77 steps). When expressing my concern/displeasure hoping it could be changed, if not then, but maybe the next day, and they pretty much blew me off. Sorry we are rather full.
Well at my age the climb was difficult and somewhat hazardous. They did have someone bring my larger suitcase up.
It became an issue as I had to more carefully plan any trip outside. No quick run to the pub or Tesco for a snack given the hassle of going down and back up. It completely changed my trip planning and scheduling. I think they could have made a much better effort to move me later in my stay. So if you can't climb 77 stairs everytime you want to go out, reconsider your choice. The place was clean and lovely and the location excellent, but the room assigned was unacceptable and greater care should have been given to the remainder of my stay

Three tube stations within 10 mins., one stop from Paddington for a quick transfer to Heathrow. Hyde Park is 5 mins away. Plenty of restaurants in the area, representing the popular cuisines. Department stores of various size and level.

I felt uncomfortable staying here. The staff was less than cordial and argued when I explained thst I had limited ability to carry luggage up multiple flights of stairs. There aas non air conditioning and the room was rather dark. I received no housekeeping services diring my stay but was required to leave the key each time I ventured out. During my stay I was a victim.of identify theft and left early. I have been unable to resolve that issue. The property has a nice appearance and is in a good location. However I did not find it welcoming or warm and friendly. It made me uncomfortable and I travel frequently.

VHS is such a beautiful hotel in a perfect central location. The general manager, Luca, is absolutely amazing! We got to the hotel a few hours before check-in, and he went out of his way to move some things around so that all three of us could get into our rooms by 11am. VHS is perfect combination of charm, comfort, and hospitality. Highly recommended!

This is my ideal stay - I will keep returning!

This is my third stay in this excellent answer to my London trip needs. As always immaculately clean and very comfortable. Highly functional organisation of a small space that provides for everything including a tea towel. I don't know if the room walls are sound proofed but it is always quiet and private. The staff are always friendly and available and this time there was a difficulty with the hot water supply to my shower which was promptly fixed - so immediately not a problem! It is a quaint and stylish environment - so the only arduous element, which is the journey up and down the stairs, becomes intriguing! The location is ideal - minutes on foot from Bayswater tube station or alternatively within a comfortable and flat surfaced 15 minutes walk from Paddington. The immediate locale very quiet and residentially attractive and yet again within minutes there is access to shops and all supplies. The 24 hour reception provides for a sense of continuous care and security. This is my ideal stay - I will keep returning!

I book a city view private apartment for four persons. When I arrived the sent me to the basement that accommodated 3 persons (described in the page) without any ventilation and without any views. The smell of humidity was disappointing. The bathroom was big but the shower is smaller than a cruise.

My daughter and i had an Absolutely lovely stay at this hotel
Welcoming the weather was over 30° and instantly we were given bottles of water this hotel is stunning a must see to believe we love all the quirky features from the Armoured Suit landing the pictues walls fresh and so clean large wooden plantation ceiling fan kept our room cool the beautiful walled garden olenty little noooks and crannys to sit around with pond and fountain the carb fish splashing about all the windows had plantation shutters the plants just beautiful
Alot of hard work from all staff (Gardner Reception Cleaning Staff has brought this hotel to a high standard and has kept it high

There are no lifts in this property and I was not notified prior ~ that I would have to navigate 3 flights of steep stairs to get to my tiny single room. By tiny, I mean that the door doesn’t even open fully. The staff were less than helpful when it came to my check out as I had no idea how I was to get my suitcase down these stairs with a bad back.
Communication terrible and ladies were actually quite rude in making me feel like it was my problem. I will never stay again nor would I recommend. It’s unfortunate that this was my experience but hopefully it might support others when making a decision on where to stay…

There is no AC or elevator at this hotel and the room I stayed in had a straw floor!! How do they clean a straw floor? I was so uncomfortable and I wouldn’t take my shoes off. The room was dusty and there were stains on the walls, and it was so hot. The bed had a huge dent in the middle and it must have been decades old. It was awful. 0/10.

We liked the location. The hotel was a couple of blocks from Bayswater Underground Station and a Main Street with plenty of shops and restaurants. It was also an easy walk to Notting Hill. The staff were friendly. My daughter and I enjoyed having our own beds. There was a nice garden area where we could have enjoyed breakfast if we hadn’t had such a packed schedule.
We didn’t like having to turn our key in whenever we went out. Sometimes when we returned from the theatre at night, we had to buzz several times to be let in. The room was very tiny. We could only open our suitcases if they were on the beds. The bathroom was about the size of an airplane bathroom with no shelf or ledge space to leave our toiletries. There was no a/c in the room so it was uncomfortably warm. There was a ceiling fan, which helped some, but it could have been cooler. We had to close the windows to sleep because it was noisy outside so we couldn’t get any fresh air. On our second night there, I looked under the bed for something I dropped and discovered a pair of dirty underwear from the previous guests. I told the front desk the next morning and they didn’t send housekeeping until 2:30 that afternoon.

Pros: Location, size of room (with kitchen so you can make all your own meals), your own bathroom, friendly 24/7 staff, the front door is constantly locked you have to buzz in, there was a gym, garden, and you can wash your clothes. Cons: No A/C but you can open your window. Overall I would come back.

This is my second stay here and I'm already booked in for another in August - I'm so happy I found it - it is perfect for my 4 or 5 times a year visits to the city. I cannot fault it - everything is a good as it can be. The staff are lovely and welcoming. It is seriously immaculately clean. The bed is comfortable, there is all necessary temporary storage space, the shower is excellent (good pressure), everything necessary in the kitchenette including a tea towel, lighting in all in the right places, plenty of sockets - what's not to be very happy with?! Stairs are steep but frankly worth the effort (I'm 77). Decor is interesting and original and in the rooms very restful - creatively considered! Also highly practical - within 10/15 minutes walking distance to Paddington Station and about 3 minutes to Bayswater underground. Tesco and Sainsbury locals and M&S foodshop literally round the corner and full sized Waitrose and Boots about 6 minutes away - all my potential needs more than adequately catered for.

Hotel was very clean and was modern. Had a nice garden and reading area which I felt was a nice touch. Staff was all really friendly and held my bags after check out before my flight later that evening. Hotel is in an older building and as a result there are no elevators and the keys for the hotel doors are actual keys. Would 100% recommend if you are wanting to stay in the Notting Hill/Kensington area because the hotel was located in a nice area and it felt very safe as well.

Nice looking but poor comfortability.

My room (deluxe single) was on the 5th floor (4th fl. in the UK) and there was no elevator. Stairs were narrow and steep. There were 76 steps or so. If you carry a big suitcase, it’s hard. Shower pressure was very good but the drainage was poor so that I had to watch the shower pan not to overflow. There was not enough room for your legs between the toilet bowl and handwashing basin. I’m 5’2 in height.
There a (tobacco?) in the room so I had to open the window for 2-3 inches so that after 10pm you hear the noise from the street.

Neighborhood was very nice, quiet and convenient. Room was ok. Wasnt expecting much as i was just looking for a place to shower and sleep. I wished i at least had a fan because it was hot outside and it was uncomfortable in the room given how hot it was. I opened the window at night but it was still hot.
Front desk was very nice and friendly other than a male and an older female that seemed to work together the days i saw them. I would stop by on my way out to drop my room key or pick up and these two were not friendly. Hardly made eye contact and no hello or smile. At times just took my key from me and walked away without a word. Seemed annoyed to have customers to deal with. The others were very nice and friendly. Im in a job where I deal with customers daily, so i guess im surprised there is no greeting when a customer walks in. The room served my purpose but will probably stay somewhere else next time where I feel like they appreciate the customers giving them their business. Hate to judge the service based on the 2 people I mentioned but it clearly left a bad impression. I really appreciated the other employees I met. Thank you to them for making me feel welcome.

This was my second stay here. Vancouver Studios are within an easy walk of both Paddington and the Notting Hill area. The staff are friendly and the room was comfortable and with good facilities. Only downside is that there is no lift and the staircase is quite steep and narrow particularly if you are in a room on the top floor. Would happily stay here again.

We were put into incorrect room (which we booked several months prior) and were not notified of this at check in. We were put into a very small room, a double bed, no AC and view of lackluster buildings. We booked this location several months in advance for the option of a king size bed, balcony, and more sq footage. When we requested a change, they stated they would refund the cost, but the room was booked until the next day. We moved rooms the next day, but only received half credit versus the full credit were were promised. Lack of communication and unfortunate large disappointment overall

I really enjoyed my stay here. I had a single studio. The bed was comfy and the window had a lovely view. The room had a kitchen with a two-burner stove top, a refrigerator and microwave. It was stocked with a saucepan, frying pan, colander, and dishes/flatware. There was even a bottle of Fairy liquid under the sink, for washing up!
I appreciated being able to make my own food, as I have certain dietary restrictions.
The shower was tiny, but luckily, I am a small person. Anyone on the heavy side, or even just tall, would be uncomfortable in the shower.
There were two heaters in the room. One was portable. There was also a fan. As I was there in the spring, I got a chance to use both!
The employees were friendly and helpful.
The hotel has no elevator, so be prepared to get a workout going to and from your room.
There is a beautiful garden in the back; very quiet.
This is not a fancy place, but it is comfortable and affordable.

Wonderful Place to Stay

What a delightful surprise in the Bayswater neighbourhood! Close to Hyde Park, shops, restaurants, and two Tube stations, this was an ideal place to stay on our recent trip to London. The outdoor patio was quaint, a little oasis in the city.
The room was tastefully designed, had everything we needed ,and very clean.
