There was 3 separate mouse traps in our room as well as in the halls, the beds were not a standard double they were smaller, and the pillows were as hard as a rock. The night we arrived after travel there was no hot water to have a shower and the wifi kept kicking us off. If I would have paid directly to the hotel it would have been half the price it was on Expedia, had I known how cheap the hotel was I would not have booked it as it isn’t the standard we usually look for. The staff was extremely pleasant and even had an umbrella for us to borrow, I hope the front desk men try to find jobs at better hotels and shame on Expedia for advertising this place to be something it is not, I was worried a mouse was going to run across my face all night.

This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I will not call what I was checked into a room. It was a cupboard at best with a metal cot wedged into it purporting to be a bed. There was only room for one person to stand and I had to remove my ruck sack before I could shut the door. To use the loo you have to squeeze past the sink and there was nowhere to dry off if you used the shower, other than in the shower. I immediately asked to be upgraded to a proper room, but was told there were no rooms available. I left to find another hotel but came back to let the receptionist know and tell them what I thought. At no point was I offered a refund, even though the receptionist obviously knew how poor the service being provided was.

I booked a small room , so even when i saw that the room was the size of the closet i didnt mind but it was dusty , the sheets unclean with hair on them and there were a weird smell moist and humidity also the biggest problem was that the room was on the stairs right next to the reception with 0 sound proofing so i expected that a sound of a coming guest was going to wake me up a few times but i didnt expect that the receptionist was going to have a video call till morning hours. Maybe other rooms at this hotel are better but i had a terrible stay

Room was clean, we had nice room at the front with balcony, staff friendly. Beds comfy. Towels were changed everyday, would suggest this should be optional, to save unnecessary cleaning. The reception area was a bit messy, lots of laundry lying about, could just do with a tidy up down there ! Great location lots round about restaurant wise, coffee shops too.

Maybe I just got unlucky with the room that I was in. My room (26) was a small single, small being the most generous use of the word small ever. Fortunately I’m no taller than 5’8” - if you are and end up in this room I guarantee you that you won’t fit.The single bed just about fitted into the room and if I’d had a suitcase it would’ve had to have gone in the shower. There was a small 2 drawer cupboard that I didn’t open but everything that I put on top of it had to be unstuck for me to pick anything up.
I just about managed to navigate the 1 pillow bed but it most definitely wasn’t the best night in a hotel that I’ve ever had.
The TV didn’t have any programmes available as there wasn’t any signal to serve it.
Bizarrely though I had to leave my room card at the reception whenever I left the room.
Friendly enough staff but I won’t be returning here.

Our stay at the Notting Hill Gate Hotel was great.The location was excellent.- especially when needing to get to Heathrow during strike action which closed all underground stations.

Although we didn't have a window we could look out nor open, we had an A/C unit which kept the room comfortable. The bathroom was newly renovated and the shower was wonderful. They also provided us with fresh towels every day which was unexpected but appreciated. I would definitely stay here again on another visit.

The room was clean, but the shower only had shampoo and body wash sachets, as opposed to a dispenser, the wall mounted fan was clearly on it’s last legs, and the curtains weren’t able to be expanded out far enough to really block out all the light. The lobby has seen better days, and could definitely use updating. Overall I would say this hotel is ok for a night or two, but would look for somewhere with nicer amenities for a longer stay

The staff was exceptionally kind and helpful, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the neighborhood—there was plenty to see and do within walking distance. Unfortunately, our experience was impacted by a leak in the ceiling of our room. For both nights of our stay, we were woken up by water dripping from the floor above. While the hotel had placed a bucket in the room to catch the drips, we believe this room should not be made available to guests until the issue is fully resolved.

Small RV-like hotel room, great location

Excellent location and wonderful staff. Room for 3 was ~8x12 ft. with 2 small beds and a rickety wardrobe crammed into a space barely large enough to turn around in. The bathroom felt like an RV bathroom with no room to turn around or countertop for setting down toiletries. We loved the location, and the staff were friendly and welcoming, but we wouldn’t choose this hotel again. It was a funny family experience, but not for the right reasons.

The location is great and the staff friendly. There is no AC, but had two fans that were enough. Close to public transportation (both metro and bus) close the the famous Notting Hill landmarks and market. Wide options for good food and supermarkets. No elevator, but is not a big deal.

This was a decent hotel for the location and the price. Staff was very nice. The only complaint would be that there were a lot of stairs, but we were able to leave our bag downstairs for our stay. The water pressure in the toilet was a bit off too. The reception is open 24/7 though which was also great! The room had good light and a nice view over the neighborhood (cute British houses) and we liked that.

Awful experience at this well below average hotel that looks nothing like its pictures.

We arrived to the hotel and told to go downstairs to our room, number 4 and when we opened our door we were greeted by the smell of stale urine, it was that bad it was making myself and my partner gag.. we have a one year old that obviously we didn’t feel comfortable having in this room.. that and the fact we had 0 daylight in the room and you could hear everything from outside the paper thin doors.

We proceeded to make staff aware of this problem, but they were hesitant to come and see what we were saying, they eventually came to the room and agreed that they’re was a foul smell.. we then asked that we were moved as we could not deal with this for 4 days, he then told us he had no other rooms spare.

This was understandable but we then asked that we could have a refund due to the inhabitable room. We were told this wouldn’t be possible. We proceeded to book a completely different hotel meaning we had to spend out further to ensure our trip wasn’t a disappointment. We then contacted both Expedia and the hotel which both wouldn’t grant us a refund as claimed its policy didn’t allow them to. I strongly advise not to stay at this hotel unless you want to lay in a urine smelling hotel room and with mo fresh air or day light.

And if that isn’t enough the fact you have to leave the room key on reception every time you leave the hotel and the room doesn’t have a safe in it. not a fan

Lucky to book a room for 2 at the last minute with a great discount offer. Great location near the underground, with Tesco Express and M&S Food close by. Clean rooms and friendly staff. Only minor issue is the soundproofing – could hear noise from next door when my TV was off, but luckily my neighbours weren’t late sleepers. Overall, it’s a good place for a short stay within this budget. I might consider staying again if a similar offer comes up.

Nice, clean, and inexpensive - just my kind of accommodations. I was one of the lucky few whose flight was cancelled at Heathrow towards the end of March due to a fire. I jumped online to hotels.com and booked this quickly because all the hotels around Heathrow were full or now gouging people for rooms. Not this place. I booked the tiniest room I've ever stayed in. The single room I booked is not recommended for longer stays. There was barely room enough to stand next to the bed. My walk-in closet is bigger than this room. But you know what? It was clean, quiet, and for one night, considering the circumstances, it worked. I can't speak for the bigger rooms. Good job, Notting Hill Gate!

This is an outstanding option for a budget stay in Kensington. Yes, the rooms are very small, but perfectly habitable with nice bed, bathroom and very friendly staff. And it's so, so cheap. Basically if your focus is on being in central London and you don't mind a hotel that's not too fancy, you can't do much better than this!

I was warned my single person room might be small, but had no idea that I'd be spending the night in a cupboard. It had all the facilities you'd expect, bed, bedside cabinet, kettle, tea making, telephone, TV, toilet, shower, free standing plug in radiator, wall mounted fan that you'd need to climb on the bed to reach, clean bedding and towels. But you could hardly open the door to get in, I stored my one small case in the shower, I could barely use the toilet it was so cramped next to the sink. Nowhere to put clothes other than 4 door hooks and 2 tiny bedside cabinet drawers. How this passes the law as a hotel room is beyond me. I've never slept in a cupboard before and didn't last night. I nearly fell out of the small bed onto the hardwood floor and lost the one sheet and bed throw numerous times. I couldn't shower as it was too high and too small to fit in. Thank goodness it was only for one night. There was no breakfast room or even anywhere to sit other than on the bed in my \"room\" I mean cupboard, and the kitchen was another \"cupboard\" with microwave and fridge. This was cheap yes only £75 per night, but it was worth £25. Never, never again. Be warned if you book here, when they say small 1-bed room they mean converted cupboard.

Uncomfortable hotel, but well placed

The stairs are too narrow, no elevator, so walking to the 4th floor with luggage may be a challenge. Also, the room size is really tiny, our room was for 3 people, but just two of us had difficulty moving around. The furniture is very old and damaged. Double bed is actually a 1.5 person bed with 180cm long, so for taller people, you most likely will be \"touching\" a kettler sitting on a small table between beds. There is no chair or table in the room and no where to hang the jacket or coat.

Nice property for the price. The rooms are very small and there are a lot of stairs. If that is an issue I imagine you can request a room on a lower floor. I was greeted kindly and the room was clean and cozy. Great location. I would stay again for a short stay.

Extremely convenient, just off a main road but very quiet location, the rooms were small but clean and loved the high ceilings, windows, bathrooms were great, liked the cleanliness and the front staff was very pleasant and helpful. Train stations and bus stops very close along with great food options. Worked great for us and we hope to return again soon. Thank you!

The room was simply too small to be acceptable by any standards. I usually stay in cheaper hotels in the same area and they’re usually about 4 times the size. It’s (and I’m not exaggerating) the size of a cupboard. I could hear so much noise all night because of the thin walls and was kept up in the morning by screaming children which was annoying. I stayed for just one night whilst on a work trip to London. The location is very convenient with buses and a tube stop very close. Although the area is busy, I was not disturbed at all by traffic noise. The gentleman at the desk kindly gave me a larger room than I had booked, and everyone at the desk was very friendly and welcoming when I went in and out. The accommodation is simple but a very good value for the location.

Very basic hotel. Was in a triple room in the basement. Down some very worn stairs, past an old washing machine and a kitchen/cleaning room cupboard and into the room.

The room itself was better - some tasteful decorations and good lighting. Bed was so so - not amazingly comfortable but passable. Some paint peeling off the walls and a loose electrical socket. Floor had bits on it so not properly cleaned and there was an unnecessarily large refrigerator in the room. There was an aircon unit which was noisy when on and only did cold or hot (no middle ground), but when turned off the room got too hot quite quickly.

Private bathroom by contrast felt new and was very clean. The shower was very powerful.

It was close by to the station and to other attractions which made it so nice to be there. The room itself wasn’t terrible, we did have a balcony but it was shared with the person next to us. There is no lift so just be aware of that. The staff is honestly very nice, we only had one weird encounter where one of the staff was nice to us and then followed us outside and just stared at us. I’m not sure if he was going for a smoke but he just stood out there for a while watching and just weird. But other than that, shower is just very small and also the TV in the room is very small as well but not a big deal considering we didn’t use it. They installed a fan way too high that neither of us could reach it to turn it on and we had to either get on the chair or use the remote to reach. These are just small things though, I would come back just for the convenience of the place.

You get what you pay for which is a compliment. Cheap accomodation in central London for 1 night max I'd recommend. No lifts is frustrating - especially hauling 20kg suitcase up to the 4th floor on a windy narrow staircase at 11pm. Overall it's fine - it's a bargain hotel - there's a bed and ensuite toilet but it's obviously not brilliant.

It a shame because the staff were fabulous, the rooms were clean with towels and complimentary drinks refreshed daily. We were originally allocated room 20 which was situated on the 3rd floor up a narrow staircase to the rear of the building, there was nothing wrong with the room but I found the staircase very claustrophobic. We were able relocate to room 16 with an outlook to the front of the property and although this room was smaller it met all our needs, a bonus for me was being able to open the sash windows fully. This place is basic so don’t expect a boutique experience, but it fits the bills for a few nights away.
