It has that rare old world standard of service, gracious, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful without ever feeling performative. Dining at The Arms Public House is just as impressive. The food is consistently excellent, refined without being fussy, and always memorable.
Add in the easy parking, central location across from the Public Gardens, and the hotel’s historic charm, and it is hard to imagine staying anywhere else.

I have stayed at The Lord Nelson in the past and was excited to bring my partner with me this time. I was disappointed by the disinterest showed by the front desk staff. Our luggage was lost by the airline, and the front desk assured me that it would be delivered right to our room when it was received at the hotel. I waited hours and finally called down to the front desk only to be told that my suitcase had been waiting for me for over an hour. No notification, no delivery. And it's not as though they were overwhelmed with guests - when I went down to collect my bag, both the front desk attendant and the bellhop were standing leaning on the front desk talking to each other. They didn't read the notes about my lost luggage that they colleagues had left, and made no attempt to call me. I just don't understand the lack of care. I won't be returning.

The housekeeping staff and front desk to the bar and restaurant The Arms…very pet friendly, even gave us a little doggy bag with waste bags and treats for our two dogs. The room was clean and spacious. It was what we needed. It was our 22nd wedding anniversary. We had a lovely stay thank you very much.
A special shout out to two staff members one being a man in overalls in the boiler room who helped my disabled husband with the elevator and luggage trolley and Styles in the bar of the restaurant.

The room and hotel itself was great, as well as the location. The check in was horrible. It took about 45 minutes and our reservation was incorrect despite having contacted both Expedia and the hotel itself. We had multiple rooms book, confirmed multiple times, and upon arrival there was only one room for us. After waiting, they did manage to find us another room to suit our needs but it took arguing with staff to make this happen. Maybe not typical for this to happen here, and the hotel itself was great, but a poor experience to start the stay.

I have complaint each time with the issue not resolved on my next visit so clearly this is a policy they have for their housekeeping team. You’d think they would be able to use technology to know when rooms are being checked out of vs the old fashion knocking.
