The staff was amazing - so friendly and helpful. I didn’t like how our room was set up. Our bed and a bathtub were upstairs, while the bathroom and living area were downstairs. The hair dryer was upstairs, but I had to sit on the couch to use it due to outlet limitations. The room we stayed in the first night was better.

Also beautifully renovated building; we seemed to arrive mid-renovation so that there were many complications with room keys, directed to wrong floor for breakfast, directed to gym that was under construction and nonexistent. When it is fully functional it will be great. Note, no AC and rooms did get a little warm.

Advised that there was no fried eggs but could have scrambled? Extra cost for a second cup of coffee. Had an issue with being charged for our stay on my Debit card on arrival without my knowledge although I had already paid for it prior to arrival through a third party. However when this came to light the issue was dealt with quickly and efficiently. Regardless of issues experienced would certainly return but without the breakfast.

Nestled on St Andrew Square in Edinburgh’s elegant New Town, it’s just a three-minute walk from Waverley Station and within easy strolling distance of Princes Street, George Street, and countless dining and shopping options . Housed in a beautifully restored bank, the luxury apartments feature fully equipped kitchens, premium bedding, and modern comforts, while on-site amenities—like the fitness centre, bar/lounge, daily breakfast at The Register Club, 24-hour front desk, and complimentary Wi-Fi—add an extra layer of convenience and style .

Most memorable of all was the genuinely warm hospitality: every team member went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, always with a friendly smile and prompt assistance . We can’t wait to return for another exceptional experience.

I booked this hotel well in advance and provided my contact details — yet no one informed me of ongoing renovation work. Upon arrival, we were guided through an inconvenient and frankly unacceptable route to our room: a standard elevator to the second floor, a walk down a hallway, then a service elevator back down to the first floor. I was traveling with my 67-year-old father. Despite being told guests shouldn’t use the service elevator, it was our only option — shared constantly with contractors and staff, often smelling unpleasant.

At a five-star hotel, guest experience should be the priority. Here, we waited through multiple elevator rounds as staff used them freely, even with trolleys. On our last day, one elevator was broken — yet staff still moved carts, further limiting access for guests.

I raised concerns immediately — no follow-up. Only after posting a public review did the hotel respond, offering a room move (on our final night) and later a small refund. Too little, too late.

This stay fell far below five-star standards. Communication, courtesy, and common sense were all lacking. The overall message was clear: guest comfort was secondary to logistics. A disappointing experience I wouldn’t expect from any reputable hotel — let alone one with this rating.

We absolutely loved our stay at Cheval The Edinburgh Grand! I can’t recommend it enough. It was a beautiful space with lovely and high quality furnishings. It felt modern and updated while still being classy, elegant, and fitting with the older architecture in the city. We had a great view of St. Andrew Square. The living and dining area was extremely spacious. Having a washer and dryer in the room was so convenient, and the small jug of milk in the fridge was an added touch, great with shortbread cookies! Fully stocked with kitchen utensils and tableware, detergent, soap, even a cookbook. We enjoyed breakfast and drinks at the upstairs lounge and dinner in the restaurant downstairs. The staff was kind, helpful, and very accommodating. The location was great if you don’t want to be right in the center of loud old town, but still walkable to all the sights. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Edinburgh!

Upon arriving to The Cheval, we were greeted by the hotel staff and notified that they were upgrading us to a Deluxe Suite! We were so delighted and the hotel was amazingly clean, comfortable and our suite was beautiful! We had everything including a washer/dryer in suite. I could go on and on about how wonderful our stay was in Edinburgh at the Cheval Grand. We will definitely miss the hospitality but will be back in the future!! 10/10 stars!!!

This is a beautiful hotel to stay at and there was one front desk superstar - I believe her name was Abby (blonde hair) - that really made this a wonderful experience with her recommendations and friendliness. The hotel is in a great location near the train, bus lines, an upscale shopping strip, mall, good restaurants, Prince Street, and a Marks & Spencer grocery/department store. The walk to Royal Mile and all the activity in Old Town is less than 10minutes.

We stayed in the one-bedroom loft which was lovely. The only thing is the staircase landing is less than 2ft from a window and there's a glass railing, so you must squeeze between the glass and the window to access the stairs. We were fine with it because we're short and petite, but not sure if, say, a taller, larger male would manage as well. There are other apartment-style rooms to choose from, though. I'd definitely stay here again.

Amazing stay. Great location and the staff were absolutely lovely and couldn’t help more. The apartment itself was gorgeous, couldn’t fault that at all!! The only issue we had was parking in the car park their website states (train station), but when checking out, they could only validate for parking at st James quarter- so be wary where you park! Other than that issue, it was a lovely stay

Amazing place. Really appreciated the birthday wishes. Staff were great. Brilliant hotel in an ideal location.
The only thing that let it down was the distinct lack of breakfast seating. I feel you should really provide proper tables for eating. Sitting on a settee is not comfortable for breakfast consumption.

Very clean, nice sheets. Fairly hard bed, heated by radiator and you are at the mercy of the building for when they come on. I was cold much of the night. A man entered my room in the morning while I was bathing. He left immediately and I didn’t see him. I don’t know how he got access.

Great location just 5 minute walk from station. Lovely breakfast. On checkout found out we were upgraded but not told this on arrival. Nice duplex style room with great facilities. Bedroom a little small and nowhere to hang coats or shelves to put things on. Over all good stay and would recommend.

Whilst this place is a lovely place to stay and great location, and staff are very friendly. Unfortunately on this occasion, it didnt live up to the stay we had in the past at one of the London properties.

The price that we had to pay, didnt meet our expectations.

Very noisy room (1st floor) - the rooms open up onto an open hallway, so all noise from the entrance hall can be heard in the room. Plus the windows arent double glazed so you can hear the trams every 7 minutes plus the bottle collection early Saturday morning from the restaurants on the ground floor.

Resturant staff I didn’t really appreciate when they questioned and lectured me on my parenting when my child was near the hallway handrails despite me being right beside her.

As for the room - little disappointed that whilst I accept it is a self catering apartment, small basics would have been appreciated considering the price that I had paid. Examples being only a couple of tea bags for our 2 night stay, towels didnt get replaced, no tea towels, no chopping board, no washing up liquid, no salt & pepper, oil etc. Just little basics that could be provided, at little cost to the establishment rather than residents having to spend and then end up leaving everything behind.

Finally, decor in the room - curtain didnt close properly which meant rooms were bright at night. Lots of marks on the room walls. A little dired looking.

Have stayed here before and loved it. Was extremely disappointed this time. Had to squeeze up either side of the bed to get into it. The springs were gone on one side of the bed meaning it was hard not to roll out. There was mould in the bottom of the shower. The windows rattled in the wind in their frames. We tried to attend the Register bar at about 9.45pm to be told it was closed. When we pointed out the website said 11pm, the bar manager (Italian Manager) said he didn’t care, he finished at 10.30 and was told to be closed by then. We asked to speak to a manager, who was supposed to call us about the stay but that hasn’t happened.

From the moment you walk in you are amazed by how beautiful the property is. The staff is exceptional, so friendly and helpful. They left a birthday card and bottle of Prosecco in my room for my milestone birthday. The location is one of the best places to be in Edinburgh. Close to many restaurants, shopping and the old town. Would definitely stay there next time in Edinburgh.

We very much enjoyed our stay at The Edinburgh Grand. Great location. Comfortable, well designed room. Terrific staff. Good gym. We had a snafu with the in-room washer/dryer that unfortunately didn’t drain properly. Staff was valiant in their efforts to help fix things. Had great cocktails and meal at Hawksmoor. Did not love our experience in the Lady Libertine basement space - very dark, so-so cocktails, and VERY LOUD. We had loved our dinner at Bon Vivant and had higher expectations for this sister restaurant. We have already shared with friends/family our recommendation for this hotel. Would absolutely stay here again.

Really nice apartment although bed was a bit small. Lovely glass of prosecco on arrival. Only concern is lack of air conditioning as room was very warm and it was too noisy outside to open windows. We did get a fan from reception which helped. Very friendly staff.

I loved how centrally located it is, but this comes with a caveat. the tram outside sounds like an earthquake every time it passes by, so if you are a light sleeper id suggest asking for a room not facing the street.

Overall, this is a very nice modern-style hotel. It's great for walks, being right next to the park, with excellent restaurants and bars very close by.

On arrival, the staff were very friendly and helpful, even though we did have a bit of a parking and unloading situation. They assisted with our bags and helped us get to the room—10/10 service. The parking is located nearby but can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you have children. They offer parking validation for a discount, but during my visit, the validation ticket didn't work, so I had to pay full price for a day. Leaving the hotel was a bit of a different experience, as the lady at the front desk upon departure was not very helpful in getting assistance to load our luggage into our rental car. This wouldn't normally be a problem, but there really isn't any temporary parking or loading zone outside the front entrance, so you're unsure if you'll get a ticket for just checking out.

The breakfast they offer is very nice.

Hawksmoor, connected to the hotel, is an amazing restaurant, and everything was delicious.

The bar connected to the hotel is a great addition. When we first went there, it was a really good experience, and the drinks were very tasty. I would only ask that they align their closing times with the last call, as we arrived 30 minutes before the stated closing time, but the staff had already closed down the bar and completed last call.

Overall, a very nice hotel.

Very nice hotel, but not the service I expected given the price we were paying. In addition, you might get a room in the basement without easy access (you have to take the lift for then walking down the stairs). It was a headache to found out that this was the deluxe bedroom for which we were paying for. Anyway, I was grateful that the hotel then upgraded my room because I could not bear the way down to the room.

Great Place for Edinburgh Stay

Excellent stay at the Cheval The Edinburgh Grand. It is located in the New Town area but it is a short walk to Old Town. We found it was a nice respite to leave the Old Town area due to how busy it is (think Times Square busy). Every person we encountered at the hotel was extremely nice and professional. Our room was clean and comfortable. would highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh.
