Room came with air con. Which I couldn’t turn off. Set fan to 0 but still made a noise. And for a light sleeper was not good. Shelving next to toilet which was a potential hazard. New silicone required around shower area. No plug for basin. Breakfast was good. Plenty of choice.

The first room we were in had non functioning lamps and a non functioning TV. The room ( like all others in the hotel) had no telephone so solving this problem required trips to reception. The receptionist had to come me to the room to inspect the problem as, at 4 or 5 in the afternoon, there was apparently no other staff member in whole hotel.

We were offered a room change and accepted it.

I asked about cancelling the next two nights based on this experience and whether we would get a refund for them ( we had paid for the room in advance). The receptionist could not answer this question but told me a manger would call me later. He did so but he couldn't answer the refund question either. I asked as told another manager would call me the next day but I received no call.

I just felt worn down and pessimistic that any action would occur. This room was approximately AUD 500 per night. We were given a EUR 10 voucher

The hotel's unstated policy is clear: 1. get the customers money and keep it while elevating the problem till the customer is worn out. 2. Maximise profit by having a receptionist run the the hotel after about 4pm

Although some areas of this property could do with an update and/or thorough deep cleaning, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Some of the common areas and hallways weren’t the cleanest. Floors in our room required recleaning/cleaning upon our arrival but everything was smooth sailing after that. Bed and linens were clean and comfortable. Room temperature was comfortable. Breakfast and helpful staff couldn’t have been better. Location was very walkable with public transportation stops right out front. Central train station just a short walk away. I recommend reserving one of the rooms with a sauna. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Nice hotel in an excellent location. There's a tram stop immediately outside, the main train station is about a 5 minute walk away and it's only a 10 min walk to the harbour / Allas Spa. The breakfast was great with a mix of full English and traditional Finnish offerings. Would stay here again without hesitation.

We love going to Scandic, if only for the breakfasts! They honestly are very good and varied, and with a flare of national delicacies like the Karjalanpiirakka (I liked mine with jam)
We stayed on the top floor meaning we were away from street noise, but to be honest, the location is very quiet anyway, and yet so close to the centre, and railway station- making public transport from the airport a breeze.
We would have loved to try out the communal sauna, but sadly our British side prevented us when we saw evidence of others using the sauna- we didn't know what we would walk into considering how liberal the Finns are with their saunas. And with it being gender specific at certain times, we were even more timid not wanting to go on our own! (We recognise this is an us problem not a hotel problem lol)
The rooms met basic expectations and we were lucky to have a window room, even though we selected the cheaper non window at the time of booking (win!). Beds were comfy, the rooms were comfortable in temperature, and the shower was excellent. People have commented the hotel is a bit dated, and I would agree, but not in a sense that harms your experience, but for example, the shower room could do with re-grouting in areas, and the headboard was missed for dusting- but these are comments that I passed on to Reception at check-out, so it's up to them what they do with that.
For the price- location, breakfast and the lovely staff make this a steal, and we would definitely stay again

I arrived at 7am and was charged 20 euros for early check-in as the usual check-in time is 4pm. The front desk is manned 24 hrs and the staff are on-the-ball.

The hotel's location is superb; Just a stone's throw to Kauppatori market, senate square, Helsinki Cathedral and Uspsenski Cathedral. It is located right beside the university, right beside an underground passage to casino, train station and food hall. It is also right next to a recycling shop where you can shop for 2nd hand stuff. There is a tram stop right outside the hotel so it helps if you are feeling tired and wanted to walk lesser. The down side is of course you can hear the trams travelling from the hotel room (it's quite muffled though audible). The worst part is the sound proofing because you can hear other rooms' flushing and when people walked past.

There is no mini fridge nor mini bar in the room.

Breakfast wise, there was a spread but it was not as varied as I expected it to be after reading the reviews. The breakfast was mainly assorted bread & jam, pickled vegetables, assorted cheese, chicken ham, oat porridge, overnight cereal, assorted cereal, rye rice pastry, scrambled eggs, 6 min egg, bacon, rosti (hashbrown), beetroot balls, baked beans, tomato with egg, assorted juice.

The floor has some sand which I called for room service to clean the floor but the sand is still there.

Room service is fantastic; they would change towels everyday unless you put do not disturb.

Scandic Kaisaniemi has a year end shut down but Hotels.com did not E-Mail me inform me the booking has been transferred to Scandic Simonkentta. End up having to pay additional 20 Euro for a taxi to go over to another Scandic hotel.

Good value for a central hotel. I would stay here again. Metro next door. Excellent for tram stops. No mention of the City Travel Card which is good value and useful. Valid for number of days you require...included boat trip to local island. They could do better promoting City, though there are brochures available.

The hotel is nice and clean, the staff is friendly. However all the amenities are run down.
Yet the location is very good. So close to the city center, the port, the railway station, and the metro/ tram stops.
There is a major supermarket right under the hotel and a number of cafes and shops, which is very nice for last minute things and necessities.
The rooms did not have USB charge ports, but the staff was nice to loan a charger to me. Many thanks for that.

This visit really fell short. On Expedia says they have a gym. When I got there they said there was no gym but could pay 15 euros per day to visit another gym nearby. They need to adjust their listing since it’s inaccurate. Rooms weren’t clean, dust balls in the corners and overall very worn. Shower soaked the whole bathroom and often would go very hot without adjusting the temp. Safe in room wasn’t working. I had to ask three times and wait two days for someone to come. Turns out the English instructions were just wrong. I wouldn’t suggest booking this hotel, one frustration after another. I shared my concern and they said since I paid through Expedia they couldn’t do anything. Overall very disappointed. I hope Expedia will do something about this experience.

This area was walkable to the Christmas Market, which was the whole reason we stayed an extra night on our trip to Finland. It's also near a Starbucks and Hard Rock Cafe for souvenirs and to see festive Christmas decorations in town. It's also just a stone's throw away from the main Helsinki train station from which you can take the train to the airport. So location wise, this is perfect! There was no need to take a taxi, which is super expensive in Helsinki.

The hotel itself is average. The Scandic brand has not been updated since the 80s it seems. But very clean and adequate. We left earlier than when breakfast was served, so we don't know how the breakfast is. But we love our room. Lots of restaurants to choose from nearby.

I would stay here again for practical purposes!

A good walking distance from everything

The location is great whether you are a solo traveler or a group of friends or family. Great walking distance to and from the Helsinki Central Station, Stockman department store or even the Helsinki Cathedral. Breakfast is good, easy and convenient. Definitely was a good idea to mark down what time you would come down for breakfast as it could be super busy.

Had to change room as the bed was broken, loud air handling unit in the room we couldn’t turn off, every day the room cards had to be reprogrammed. The room service threw away some of my things that weren’t rubbish but they did pay to replace them. The hotel is in dire need of updating and really let’s the Scandic name down. Simply the worst hotel I’ve had in Helsinki and I’m a regular business visitor. Worst issue was all my clients followed my lead and booked the same place! Breakfast was fantastic and the showers were strong and hot, outside that unfortunately I really recommend you avoid this one.

I have to say that the rooms at the Scandic's hotels are very clean (I have been in 3 already) but in the case of the Kaisaniemi, the corridor floors were very dirty, I told the receptionist and she said was going to look at that. Other than that, location was good.

The standard room was perfect for 2 night short city visit with a fair price given the location of the hotel.
Staff was friendly and helpful and the Sauna facility is very nice.
The only negative that comes to mind would the shower/bathroom floor is a bit inconvenient, as the water from the shower will cover basically the whole floor. But this is a common issue with the bathrooms floors in small rooms based on my experience (if no bathtub installed.)

Great value for a pretty decent hotel. AC worked well, beds were comfortable enough, and the included breakfast buffet was definitely a highlight. Nice location too.

The bathroom was a bit spartan with a collapsible shower that soaked the entire bathroom floor (giant squeegee included to clean it up yourself).

The location is excellent, a short walk to the station and most tourist locations are walkable. The bathroom gets rediculously wet because the screen is of poor design...it is a health hazard! There was no room serivice on a two night stay! The breakfast room has an amazing street outlook, but can get crowded.

The room was pretty small but comfortable. I thought there would be a mini-fridge/hot pot. Bathroom made great use of small space. Breakfast buffet was amazing. The choices were immense. Great baked goods as well as meats, cheeses, eggs, fruits. Dedicated selections for vegans, gluten free. Was disappointed that sauna was only available for 2 hrs at a time that one would be out sightseeing. Wi-fi was good.

Where it fell short was the cleanliness of the room.
2 examples - the shelf above the bed. This had not been dusted for some time. Also the table between the beds had a coffee stain (during the whole stay)..
