SS Rotterdam is nice experience. Reception staff wasn’t nice once we arrived early as we simply asked if early check in available and lady was so unhappy telling how busy they are and we must come after 3pm - I agree but tone and face expression could be different and all story would be different.
Breakfast is nice , staff in restaurants are super friendly and doing every single extra mile if they can. Check out process super simple.

Iconic and atmospheric but also very tired in places. My cabin carpet was in a very poor state and the decor pleasant but outdated. Portholes were filthy on the outside, difficult to fix but they still must be cleaned.
Staff were wonderful throughout, warm and friendly and willing.
The Lido restaurant was enjoyable overall but, sadly, the food was only average.
I'm glad I've stayed in such a special place but - sorry - I won't be back for more!

This property provides a unique experience. It is like taking a step back in time because it was a working cruise ship once upon a time. The rooms are spacious, not like current cruise cabins. The beds are soft, not firm. The amenities in the room and bathroom are similar to what you’d find at any decent hotel.

The staff are friendly and welcoming from the moment you approach the property. We were greeted outside by the bell captain who helped us with our luggage and brought us aboard to the guest services area. People at the front desk are very helpful.

Food in the restaurant was ok. Beef brisket should have been more tender, but meals that others had were fine.

The location is close to the cruise port, which was great because we were sailing on Holland America and this hotel provides free shuttle service to the cruise terminal. This service was excellent! They took our bags right to the ship so embarkation was easy. I would definitely recommend this property. They also offer discounted tours of the ship for hotel guests. Unfortunately we didn’t have time to take advantage of this.

There was great wow factor arriving, and the novelty factor of staying on a boat was fun for the kids.

As a hotel it was underwhelming.

The bus connection is regular but the bus stops are in fairly ‘sketchy’ spots, I wouldn’t have felt safe as a lone woman. The shuttle is great but stops at 6pm, it would be better running later into the evening once dark rather than during the day.

The rooms are kitsch with the period styling and they were immaculately clean. The corridor carpets were dirty and the smell of old smoking rooms permeated everywhere unfortunately.

Reception staff were friendly but either unknowledgable or reluctant to help. We arrived at 9pm after a long journey to be told the kitchen was closed and there was no food available on board. The receptionist couldn’t recommend anywhere to go out to eat. They did say we could order a delivery but couldn’t recommend anywhere for that which was unhelpful.

It was disappointing that we weren’t able to visit the upper deck, this was open to visitors doing the door but not for paying guests. We joked that we felt like we were in steerage!

The breakfast was great. There was no reduced price for children which made that expensive, but it was great quality and they had a huge selection of options.

All in all it was a fun choice of hotel for a couple of nights.

Interesting for a short stay. Don’t expect the full cruise ship feel. The vibe is not the same. The ship is an interesting novelty place to stay for a night. Location does not provide for off ship walks or dining, but the onboard dining room is good. Portion sizes for meals such as the half ribs are ridiculously large.

It was a neat experience to be on SS Rotterdam. I would suggest taking the tour as there really isn't all that much to see or do in the hotel without it. The pool (all 20 cm of it) was under repair.
The room was a great size.
The bed seemed odd. We had brand new mattresses but our bedding was all setup on a thick mattress pad. I almost slipped right out of bed on the first night.
Wifi was strange and appeared to come from the TV? Turned the TV off and internet was gone.
You do need to call a taxi or Uber as there is nothing walkable (at least for my 80 year old father) around the hotel.
The order system for food didn't seem to work in English and wouldn't take credit cards. The staff were able to assist.
The buffet breakfast was very good. Try and limit yourself to one croissant as they are heavenly.
It was nice to have a complimentary shuttle from the Hotel to the cruise port. All in all, it was a nice stay.

Our stay at the SS Rotterdam blew us away. This is definitely in our top 5 of the most original hotel stays we have done in our time as globetrotters. Wonderful, very spacious rooms...nothing like the ones we have seen on the cruises we have done. Fantastic beds too. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend it to anyone traveling to Rotterdam.

Ferry service adjacent to ship allows for access to the pedestrian tunnel to walk to Het Park and Euromast (ferry runs 0700-1000 & 1345-1800). Able to walk to central Rotterdam (Cube Houses, etc) in about 45 minutes, felt very safe.

The ship is amazing, so beautiful and a real history lesson in 1950s glamour.

It’s a decommissioned cruise ship, so its a fun and unique place to stay. The location is not good due it being located on a mile long peninsula. Staff was helpful and friendly enough with the exception of the bar staff during the day. We waited at a bar side table 30 minutes and were not even acknowledged, so we went and sat at the bar and left after 10 minutes since it was apparent we were not getting served. The food in the restaurant upstairs was very good and well priced. Transportation is very difficult from here since no Uber or taxis want to go this far out of the way to get you.

There is no way a review can describe a stay on the ss Rotterdam, you must visit in person, whether a day tour or preferably overnight stay. I first must truly commend the front desk/reception staff for being extremely attentive, professional and beyond helpful. During our 2 night stay, almost every reception staff member went above and beyond, from room-upgrade, to quickly calling a cab, and to easily address special requests and billing. Even the gift shop attendant was great. But, the biggest thanks must go to a wonderful security member (K), who gladly and enthusiastically helped my parents recreate a honeymoon photo from their Rotterdam cruise 50 years ago. Having this memory being recreated was simply priceless for them and we are all deeply grateful as it wouldn't have happened without this member's help. Besides first class staff, this ship is amazingly preserved in time. After trekking through France for a week, it was like taking a 2 day cruise to know where to unwind. The Lido served a fantastic breakfast and dinner. Captain's Lounge was perfect for coffee/drinks with friends. The rooms are not only spacious, but a reminder of how cruising/crossings used to be, all completely well appointed. Outdoor deck spaces are large & spacious with amazing views. For a comparable price of a boring chain-box hotel room, there is no comparison. And for those, like us, who were looking for the nostalgia of a bygone era and and an experience like no other, a stay is a simple must!

This is a unique experience staying on a retro steam liner/cruise ship. The rooms are retro but upgraded. The only down side is that most of the ship is not part of the hotel and you must buy tickets in order to see the best rooms. There is a small discount if you are staying the night, but bake that into the price.

It's the Steamship Rotterdam... a really special surprise for my family... I told them I booked a hotel.... and only when we turned the corner dit it click that this huge ship was our hotel...
Super short stay, next time a longer visit to Rotterdam.

Pity that it doesn't really have good transport (frequent) to Rotterdam and the Ahoy...I had to take the car.. otherwise would have been too late for the show.

Myself and my partner stayed for 4 days, beautiful location and beautiful ship. However, when on the deck the staff are not helpful. We couldn’t pay via their app so we were sat around waiting for a very long time for someone to take our order as we couldn’t pay at the bar, customer service was not the best. Some staff were very lovely and then some were not helpful. Again, very very beautiful ship and EXCEPTIONALLY clean but the air con was rubbish and windows do not open! It got very warm in the room.

The ship is beautiful inside and out and the promenade deck is stunning for a drink and sone snacks. Service amazing. Pool only for kids, this is not clear at point of booking. The main issue is the beds, although the mattress was comfy it appeared to be placed on an old sofa cushion above the bed base. Very strange. Would deffo visit again if they improved the beds.

Very unique experience! Our room was quite a walk from reception but that just shows how impressively large this ship is. The room itself was lovely and clean with a very comfortable double bed as well as a fridge, wardrobe and desk, and a spotless bathroom with good-running warm shower - everything we needed! The ship is quite far from everything but there are buses a short walk away every 20 mins as well as a water taxi stop on the starboard side (again very unique!). Breakfast was rather expensive at EUR 21 ppn however it was of good variety and quality, was all-you-can-eat, and the staff kept the stock up nicely. Sidenote, all staff I encountered were friendly and welcoming.

We also took part in a tour of the engine room and other below-deck ex-working areas which was very fascinating even with only being able to use an audioguide for English commentary (tour guide gave tour in Dutch but was happy to answer my questions in English).

My husband and I live on a cruise ship half the year and I am a content creator. My husband use to work on this ship. We were excited to stay here. My only advice is to not stay here in the summer. The air does not work nor does it circulate. As a ship engineer of 30 years my husband tried to tell the front desk and when we turned around to leave we were laughed at. It was my husband, 15 year old daughter and myself. It was a very bad night with no sleep. Also the restaurant: we were very excited to eat there. They forgot to put our order in. We waited 75 minutes for our meal. They forgot the appetizer, then the bread, then brought us the wrong water. Sounds silly but it was 2 hours of me getting up and down from the table to find a server as servers didn’t stop to us and there were many different ones. We live in the Netherlands and all agree we will never go back

Housekeeping came into our room whilst we were out and placed the do not disturb sign on our door handle, without cleaning the room. Later, I asked for coffee and tea to be bought to the room and when I asked about the former, they laughed and said they didn’t know.

There was an initial issue with our room so we had to change. They gave us a smaller room which was a downgrade. We moved to a third room and we felt they were not happy with this reasonable request.

The novelty of staying on the ship is great.

Wonderful and original boat - hotel experience!

Original accomodation in the city that has been married with the sea since its origin. The nostalgic vibe on this ship still breathes the old days of the Holand- America line. The rooms are comfy, the breakfast really nice and the views are as you would expect from a ship laying in Rotterdam. Highly recommended!

Woken up at 4:30am by thoughtless staff

Leuke sfeer en we hadden er daarom heel veel zin in. Vriendelijk personeel. Helaas hadden we precies dezelfde ervaring gehad als iemand hieronder al noemde. Kamer 2080 was omschreven als heel erg luxe maar we werden wakker gemaakt om 4:30 met veel geluid en herrie die ging het hele ochtend door. (blijkbaar door de keuken direct boven de kamer). Als hotel en restaurant moet je niet alleen denken aan mensen die willen eten maar ook aan gasten die willen slapen. Echt teleurgesteld.

An unbelievable experience. Nothing else like it anywhere in the world. The only other surviving 1950s liners, Ancerville and the SS United States have both been gutted beyond recognition. The Rotterdam is an immaculate piece of history and quite a comfortable one at that.

Until we checked out we had a wonderful time. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the ship (for a fee) which involved a guided tour of the enormous engine rooms and an unrestricted self guided audio tour of the rest of the ship. Wonderful crew cabin vignettes.

We were however very disappointed with our departure. We saw no bus ticket dispensers outside the hotel so asked where to purchase one. The only option was a day pass from the front desk (8 euros per person vs 4 euros for a single two hour ticket). We therefore asked staff if we could get a five minute ride to the metro station where we could purchase a single trip ticket, in the clearly marked van sitting at the entrance to the hotel. We approached staff 3 times over the 2 days we stayed on the ship - to ensure plenty of advance notice. We were encouraged with the possibility and to check on the day we were leaving. At that last moment, \"no staff are available to drive\" was the \"excuse\". Really - in a near empty hotel during the pandemic?? Vehicle clearly parked outside at 9 am and only a 5 minute drive??? Instead they sent two 66 seniors into the pouring rain, to slog a mile to the nearest real transit point to the ship. Not the customer service we expected from a four star operation.

Was very pleasant except the promenade deck was off limits even for hotel guests. Only way to access that part was by joining a tour. It would have been nice to be able to walk there, especially after a meal in the evening.

Historic cruise ship not far from the center of the Rotterdam. Cabins are quite spacious. Buffer breakfast was full. Try this cruise experience))

Fantastic

Staying in the former luxury cruise ship hotel is a nice experience. We stayed for one night only and we did not leave the ship because we took the paid tour seeing the different parts of the ship. Nice experience.

Done it, won’t do it again.

This is one of those hotels you stay once to experience it. It was ok. Had a hard time sleeping as we keep hearing doors slamming, there is no way to gently close them. Also all night we kept hearing noises that had to do with the ship and the location of our room. The room was spacious. Breakfast really expensive.

We booked the hotel because of it’s on deck outdoor pool & unfortunately when we arrived both the indoor & outdoor pool was closed & we had not been made aware of this. We was very disappointed. We also ordered twin beds and we were all given double beds which we tried to change unsuccessfully. Our stay was ok

It's an amazing marine hotel with all staff dressed in crew uniform. Gives you a feeling of something cinematographic like Titanic movie. It's incredibly huge and spacious and the rooms are unexpectedly large. However I am not sure the whole potential of this accommodation is used in full - as far as entertaining is concerned. Evenings were pretty dull and empty, with only live music times being on an early and short scale on Fridays and Saturdays. It is probably best destination for families and romantic couples who are able to find some entertainment elsewhere

I loved the fact it was a classic ship & was very well kept! I love the way the staff was like ship crew! Great food and the amenities like scooters and bikes and shuttle were great! My bathroom was amazing and it was very quiet!

Unique place to stay!

Unusual place to stay for a change. Easy to get to via Metro and bus from main railway station. Room spacious. Bed not so comfortable though - it had some sort of mattress topper on it which slid everywhere which meant the sheet didn’t stay on and it moved away from the middle the bed and I found myself on the very edge of the bed and nearly fell out quite a few times. Service at topping up room with tea/coffee/milk and cups not so good. Had to ask for supplies both days!

It was lovely to go on deck for a drink and air but the pool was only for children, there was no gym ( that I saw) and I found the rooms claustrophobic- the room ceilings are low, the potholes don’t open and the only air into the room was from a noisy vent.

The high-end restaurant is very expensive and the portions are extremely small. The Rotterdam is located very faraway from the other attractions in Rotterdam, and the fastest way to get there and back is by water taxi for 9 Euros round-trip. They have a huge open-air parking lot -- but is cost 15 Euros even for hotel guests!

Relive the sixties!

Fabulous possibility to explore a historic passengership, in fact the flagship of the Holland America Line. Very well preserved. Vintage. We got a guided tour through the engine room. Highly recommended! Happy that there are people who try to preserve the past! For the hotelmanagement: I had problems sleeping because of the very thick pillows, but that was the only thing that bothered me.
