The hotel is conveniently located, but the building feels quite old and has some heating issues. We had to change rooms, and even then I needed to adjust the heating pipes during the night to keep them working. On the positive side, the staff were very helpful and accommodating. However, I was disappointed with the television, which offered about three dozen channels—all in German—and none in English, such as BBC or CNN.

Very nice hotel and convenient, right next to train stations, lake and shops, plus bars and restaurants. Some construction was happening at the hotel while I stayed, meaning it was quite loud at times. But it wasn’t very detrimental to my experience. I would strongly recommend staying here

Baseler Hof review

I had a really great stay at the Baseler Hof. It is in a central location, about 200 yards from the U bahn stop and a great place to base yourself while exploring Hamburg. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, my room was really clean and comfortable. The restaurant was good too, friendly staff and great food. I would definitely stay here if I come to Hamburg again.

Are hotel guests really dispensable?

I have stayed at the Baslerhof many times in the last 15 years, it was always my hotel of choice. But last weekend that changed when I was curtly reminded by the Reception Manager, after bringing to his attention that I’d been waiting an hour and 20 minutes for a bottle of water to be delivered to my room, that I was not the only guest in the hotel. Well, there’ll be one guest less from now on.

Perfection attempted and nearly completed! The staff is amazing, even for someone like myself who does not speak German, they were extremely polite and helpful with suggestions, translations and directions. Well done! One slight surprise was the bathroom, one of the towels had a stain on it and for a big guy like myself, 6 ft tall and 225lbs (182cm and 100kg) the shower was a little small. Other than that, the bedding superb, the amenities excellent, the lobby bar and lounge very inviting. I wish we could have stayed longer than two days. 10/10 recommend!

The room was very clean but small. Felt like I was in a closet but that is normal for a room in Germany The location was great. In the center of the city, 1/2 block from U1,2 and 3 subways which can get to just about any point in the city. Also, just a few blocks from the main shopping district in Hamburg, and plenty of restaurants to pick from Tip don't pay 22 E for breakfast when you can walk just 5 or 6 doors down and get a very nice breakfast for 6 or 7 Euros. Bottom line yes I would stay here again Hotel is very clean, safe, and in a perfect location to base your trip to Hamburg

The hotel had old world charm, especially the lobby/bar area with roaring fireplace and Christmas tree. The rooms were modern and comfortable . Location was excellent, very near Christmas markets. There was some construction going on near our room, but we were awake already when they started.

Friendly, slightly dated medium sized hotel. The staff were very respectful and helpful. Our room was ridiculously hot and we couldn't turn down the heating so had to keep opening the windows and letting in freezing cold air. It was like being cooked alive.

Good base for a visit to Hamburg

We were visiting Hamburg for the World Triathlon Championships spending 7 nights at the Baseler Hof. The staff were very helpful with providing a room for the bikes and generally always willing to help-they improved the television in the room and provided a fn for the room [we were a bit surprised that the hotel did not have air-conditioning] The hotel is a bit old fashioned but that is part of the charm. We didnt eat at the hotel as the breakfast was more expensive than I would normally pay. The bar area was pleasant but I was surprised that the bar was not open on Sunday evening with the hotel very busy. Overall the hotel is a good base for a visit to Hamburg. The surrounding area has plenty of restaurants and cafes with the lake within 5 minutes walk.

Convenient, pretty nice, but NO AIR CONDITIONING!

In town for a wedding, this was on the short list of recommended hotels. Unfortunately it was a heat wave, and Germany does not believe in AC, including NO AIR CONDITIONING in the hotel. The second night they were able to bring up a fan which provided little relief. Window was facing into a small courtyard area with no breeze. Nearly checked out and found something with AC. It's historic and they do take pride in the hotel. The WiFi was not strong enough to use in our room on the far side of the hotel from the lobby / street. Staff was pretty friendly. Hoffbrau House is next door. Conveniently located for walking the heart of the city around the lake and shopping districts.

Hotel Baseler Hof - Good Central Location in Hamburg

Great location to walk to the Hamburg Convention Center, City Hall, Shopping, Restaurants, etc. This was a good clean well run property with an attentive staff. The food and drink were also good. There is no refrigerated air. Having no air conditioning was not an issue the first week of June. However, guests should be aware and consider their needs for refridgerated air.

This booking I made through you at property he offered why you are not booked directly and they provide us very small rooms at the checkout time they collect us call charges approximately EURO 36 I called india for four minutes and as per talk with him they charged us .35/ minutes they also charge late check out we already take his permission in morning and they allowed us but due to this booking with you they charge extra from us next time I cannot book any hotel from your side in pay at hotel conditions.

Very very small room and bed all surrrounded by walls and not confortable at all. I never saw such small space in a hotel room.Breaskfast was quite reach especially with smoked salmon and moldy cheese. Juice was low quality and small fruits. It has radiator with adjustable temperature but not working properly. Windows are visibile from the hall and low intimacy. Wifi did not working and personal at reception just shrugged his shoulders.

This is the perfect location - about a 20 minute walk from the Main Train Station and near quality stores, restaurants and top-notch sights. In addition to its location, the other highlight is that the staff is exceptional - very friendly, helpful and professional and the wi-fi works well. There is no real downside to staying here, but the building is a bit older and, as a consequence, is not as quiet as a more modern place that has better sound-proofing components in its construction.

My room was in the center of the hotel and looked out over an inner opening area and noise filtered upwards, which is not a huge deal, but something you hear if you are staying in one of those rooms. The room itself was well appointed, but the bathroom was a bit musty as it did not have a fan in it. In truth, those are minor things and not at all limiting factors as I would stay here again if I wanted to be in this part of town.

When I awoke in the morning I heard a commotion of loud talking and equipment outside my room. I could not open my door into the hallway all the way because men were working on the floor outside the room. I had to squeeze through the narrow door open. There was no notice or apology.

A really great hotel. Very clean, modern and very pleasant and welcoming staff. Happy to receive complementary ticket for all buses and S and U Bahn trains for the 3 days. My wife says they were the most comfortable beds and pillows she has ever experienced. Confusion over double bed request. In Germany a double is the UK term for twin. If you want just one large bed, make sure you e-mail them privately for a kingsize bed. They changed our room no problem.

Stayed only one night - price is very reasonable and small room to be expected.
Single room still had queen size bed. Bathroom was clean and renovated with full bathtub. A bit annoying was the tiny sink (he sink was thensize of the sink in an airplane bathroom). The furniture was OK, the room in general was very clean - except the carpet. The carpet had tons of stains, was very outdated and used looking. Not something you want to walk barefoot on.. The hallway needs updating.
Staff at checking and housekeeping was very friendly.
Location is good - not far from prime areas in Hamburg and a two minute walk from the subway that connects directly to the airport. Airport to hotel door to door of public transportation was less than 30 minutes. I got a free three day ticket for public transportation from the hotel. The furniture was OK, the room was clean and general, except the carpet. The carpet had tons of staying was very outdated and used and filthy looking. The hallway for me it's updating.
All in all - great for the price but the carpet in my room drags down the rating.

The hotel looks good and the foyer and public rooms are very nice. However, even though I requested a quiet double room months ago, at the reception there was some confusion. Eventually I was given a \"double\" room on the quiet side of the hotel. However, it was minuscule, had no shades or dark curtains--thus no shield from the light--and a fixture was broken. No info about the hotel was present, either. This was at best a 3-star hotel

For a business trip it's really annoying when not having an iron and ironing available on the room. Yes, there's a cleaning/ironing service, but such services are always too slow when you realize you need something ironed.

I was in Hamburg for a quick overnight stay, and the Baseler Hof was a very nice hotel in a good area in the city. I didn't get too much time int he hotel; however what I experienced, I was very happy with. Excellent breakfast. Map for jogging. Helpful people at the front desk. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Good but single rooms are a bit small

Stayed for 5 nights for business in a single room. Breakfast was quite good and the service helpful and friendly. Overall was a good experience.
The single room was a bit on the small side, with the bathroom being a bit annoying, though functional. Some aspects could have been improved, like the bathroom being a bit too small and shower making the floor wet or too small angle for the toilet seat that keeps falling down.

Very small rooms and no air condition. If you travel in hot summer days as we did, this is definitely not what you need, it only steams you up further. In addition, We were sold on \"free internet\" offer but only found out that it was only free for one device per room per day. We had to pay for additional devices like iPad. But it was not really worth our Monet because the wifi signal was so weak that we even couldn't find the server in our room. The connectivity was a disaster as the signal was lost every 5-10 minutes. This is not a 4 star hotel, Definitely not coming back..

This is a budget hotel, and in this world, you get what you pay for. As you might expect from an establishment that started out as a hostel for staff at fancier hotels and was used by the Wehrmacht to house troops in world war two, the rooms are small and utilitarian.

But as long as you appreciate that this is the deal, everything else about this place is positive. The location is great. The staff were the friendliest I have ever encountered in a German hotel, in 30 years of visiting the country. Free internet, free one day travel price, reasonably priced minibar. Cleanliness could not be faulted.

I paid for a one night stay in Baseler Hof with my own money, before checking into a fancy schmancy five star that my employers paid for. That brought home the contrast to me. But if I ever come back to Hamburg on my own tab, I'd unhesitatingly opt to stop at Baseler Hof, which providers an altogether nicer customer experience.

Clean hotel in very convenient location

Quite possibly the cleanest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Small room and bathroom, and tiny TV, but I only stayed there to sleep. Comfortable bed and VERY quiet (old building with thick walls - my room was towards the backyard; no noises even though I had my window open). Minibar and small safe in room. Fantastic location for shopping, sightseeing, and public transportation. Underwhelming breakfast buffet, but polite and attentive personnel. Free bus/train card and 4GB of speedy wireless included (I stayed four nights, so it's probably a GB per night). Room for improvement: checkout was very slow (even though it was 6:00 a.m.). There is a traditional Bavarian restaurant next door with excellent food. Trivia: the word \"Hamburg\" is misspelled on the hotel's outside bike-rack signs... kind of embarrassing, but of course that will not stop me from staying there again the next time I return to Hamburg.
