The staff here was absolutely amazing from the martini bar to the group that worked in the grill bar or just among some of the standout staff. One of the best days of customer service I’ve ever had and I’ve stayed a lot of properties. I feel like once you got to know some of the staff after staying for multiple days, I had some really enjoyable conversations on top of a really amazing stay with perfect amenities and room on the upgraded suite that I booked with the Butler service. Next time I’m back in Hamburg that is my go to spot.

Wonderful stay, the room was lovely and spacious and very comfortable bed with high quality linen as you would expect. 99% perfection

Everything is perfect except parking - it is best to use valet parking. We head straight to parking lot but we might have confused their system. Our luggage was sent to room late. Signage from parking lot to hotel lobby was not properly indicated too. That's the only drawback, otherwise everything is top notch 👌

Legendary Hamburg icon with excellent facilities and staff. Food offerings were varied and delicious; the spa was lovely, and the bars were lively, although drinks were pretty pricey. Entering this hotel is like taking a step back in time, but with modern conveniences. The elevator is small but beautiful and even contains a chair. The room was quiet and service was fantastic. The hotel is 3 minutes walk from the subway or the centre of the city with beautiful views. Highly recommend!

One of the check in service staff made me feel discriminated because all other guests can check in when they arrived before 3pm, but I was told I have to wait until 3pm even though my room is ready even though I arrived earlier than others after long time flight, not friendly at all.

Just one word AWFUL!!!
-had issue with the door and keys, so I had talked to so many different staffs in the hotel, including the manager but they do NOTHING all day long until they called me at 8pm whether I want to move to another room or wait till next day! In a 5 star hotel, they had all day long to deal with it but they call me at night to see if I would like to move?! Not worth a penny.
-I had an issue at the hotel and how they handled it was rude, disrespecful and terrible.
When something happens hotel staffs should try to assure me, try to make a guest feel safe and try to check up on their guset regularly to make sure their guests are okay. But they don't care. If something horrible happens at the hotel they don't care!! Don't feel safe in here.
-room key doesn't work! Every time I try to lock the door I have to get a help from the staffs and they all said it's not working properly.
-on the second day of my stay, I went to the gym in the morning and when I came back my room door was OPEN. It should never ever happen in a hotel especially in a 5 star hotel.
-you can't experience the 5 star service here.
I do not recommend it. Unless you only care about the view and the location, to me still not worth the money.

Grand luxury hotel

Incredible grand old hotel. Beautiful on the lake, makes you fall in love with Hamburg. Great service ( I lost my key and they came up and together we found it in the bedspread that had been folded). Beautiful public areas. Great breakfast. Convenient to everything.

This was the most wonderful hotel I have ever experienced. I received a free room upgrade and had the most magnificent view of the lake. The gym and spa were beautiful and motivated me to have an early morning work-out. I didn't want to leave!

This hotel was quite representative of a the Fairmont Brand. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The location was excellent, right on the lake. The rooms were beautifully decorated. There were a wide variety of restaurants nearby. If we return to Hamburg, we would absolutely return to the Fairmont.

We were visiting friends in Hamburg, so only used this hotel for somewhere to sleep. The room was comfortable, but a bit old fashioned. The bathroom was quite large, and well lit. We didn't have breakfast as it was rather expensive, but popped down the road for a coffee and croissant.

Good hotel with a real luxurious feel. Pleasant very helpful staff,nothing too much trouble for them.
Little concerned about environmental aspect of some of the hotel practices eg changing towels with no option to say prepared to use again, although this option available for bed linen.
On the whole would stay here again, especially as so close to venue I was attending.

I mean their services are seriously good from the moment I walked into the hotel till the moment I walked into my room. But after that, I would say I was rather angry than feel unpleasant. Someone (I don't know who, but I presume was the cleaning lady) opened my door and walked in directly at 8am in the morning without knocking at the door aka get my permission to come in. THIS IS EXTREMELY RUDE AND UNACCEPTABLE! and then she was like \"Oooops sorry!\"..... I was too tired to argue with her as she left immediately. So I just locked the door and went back to sleep. But this is not the end of the story. Half an hour later, another person (dunno if it's the same person) tried to open my door again.... but since it was locked, so she couldn't come in. Another 30 minutes later, around 9am, another lady KNOCKED! It had been the third time and I WAS AWAKEN!! couldn't even had a proper sleep in this hotel. So I opened the door and just looked at her, ready to accept her and her team's immense apologies for ruining my morning or my experience in this hotel! Later on, there was some sort of construction work going on near the hotel and the room couldn't be any noisier..... I can't imagine this is how a typical 5-start hotel should do to their customers. DISAPPOINTED! Next time if I come to Hamburg again, I will definitely choose Steigenberger, not this one whatsoever!

Best Hotel Ever

Impeccable Service. This hotel puts attention to all details. Polite and Friendly and Personal staff who works as if it is their own hotel. Rooms are very well decorated with a big walk in wardrobe. Bathroom has heated tiled flooring so you don't get a shock when its cold and great overall toilet facilities. Really lovely bar and restaurant. Well located at the Alster lake within 5 mins walking distance from the train station which has a direct train to the airport. Personal touches like a welcome letter and printed weather forecasts for the following day really adds to the class of the hotel. A++++

This hotel has all the charm of an old German city. The staff were friendly in a professional way, on point all the time and very helpful. Walking distance to many things to see and do in Hamburg. Hotel grill restaurant was excellent (we had lunch) and the service was impeccable. I only wish the room was a little larger, but no real complaints.

Amazing hotel, perfect service. Great location, 2 minutes walk from S-bahn and U-bahn (commuter train and metro). 1 minute from tons of top-notch shopping. Service was outstanding from all staff, nothing seemed too much bother. Getting to/from the airport is better with the S1 train (30 mins) - same duration as taxi, 2 minute walk right to terminal building but only 3 Euro. Basically, you won't stay in a better hotel. I will return, next time for leisure.

Fantastic staff, superb location and a style of sheer class; but......................

The bar is appalling. It stinks. It is used as a smokers retreat bt folk attending functions. They walk in to what is a small/ cosy place, don't drink, light up and pollute .

I'm a former smoker and think that I'm pretty easy going - but the numbers of folk cramming into a small bar is simply unacceptable.

Would I go back? No, I like a comfortable drink............

Phenomenally opulent hotel with unbeatable views

I only spent one night here on a business trip (the accommodation paid for by those who had engaged my services), and felt I had stepped into a German version of a Poirot adaptation. Such opulence! And the service.... I was given a personal tour of the hotel by a manager, who then remembered my name for the rest of my stay (though there were scores of people staying there) - and anything you've seen in any film of megaposh hotels (e.g. Bond films) was there, plus more. A restaurant with *two* Michelin stars; a wonderful wood-panelled drawing room serving afternoon tea and any kind of drink you could think of, plus numerous discreetly-placed grills and the smallest bar in Germany. I could just about afford one small glass of wine at the end of an evening's work, which I took about an hour to sip just watching the clientèle being ministered to by the classiest servers I have ever seen with my own eyes. A truly phenomenal and unforgettable place. Incidentally, in the last section of this questionnaire, the option called 'other' doesn't actually work. What I really put there for 'who might get the most out of the review' was 'well-heeled lovers of luxury'.

Not only is the hotel beautiful and in a fantastic
location. The sincere friendlyness and helpfulness of the entire staff at the Vier Jahreszeiten puts many other so called 5* Hotels to shame.
The breakfast buffet was wonderful, again the staff extremely friendly and efficient.
Dinner in the formal magnificent Grill Restaurant was delicious again with superb staff.
I was pleasantly surprised at the rates charged for massages in the health club.

Disappointing experience

We booked a room facing the court yard. It was very quiet which was nice. Check in was disappointing as the room was not ready at 3 pm. We had to wait for a/o half an hour which was annoying arriving from a long trip. Once in the room, we had to call to get our luggage up to the room. One late afternoon a young maid came into room even though we were there.... She said she wanted to fix few things in the room. We had to ask her to leave and fix things later when we are out. Annoying, to say the least. The bathroom had a great bath tub but the shower was too small / almost inconvenient. The shower head sprayed partly upwards which was annoying. In a prestigious hotel like this , things should be perfect from service to accommodation.

The breakfast room is proof that traditional surroundings can acquire some \"snap\" incorporation of modern art. Faultless rooms.

Traditional Grill for lunch. Perfect traditional menu - simple dishes but done with an elegance and flair. Attentive service by young professional staff. Great attitudes and attention to detail. Clentele on the other hand a little old and dusty. Resulting atmosphere memorable.

Menu prices actually very reasonable for the quality but charging 12 Euros for a bottle of water I remember more. Why make this irksome? Add 5 Euros to the main course price and take 5 Euros off the water. Silly.

And why charge guests 1.5 Euros to use the cloak room - especially when i only have 100 Euro notes. Annoying.

Only small faults to pick on - key system for doors needs updating.

[lake view, single room] 6 nights 7 days

The room was really clean, but really small. Since I wanted a room with lake view with the same money for one with mountain view, I could afford only a small single room with lake view.

So, the room size was definitely not spacious.

When I opened the door, there were a small bottle of complimentary wine, one dish of fruits, and one bottle of water, which were refilled everyday.
The elevator just looked like a well decorated room, as same as you can see in other Fairmont hotels: the elevator door was just ordinary house door with windows (instead of invisable usual elevator doors)

One thing bad about the hotel was that it was under the construction making the pedestrian road blocked, so guests had to walk on the road.

Overall, I liked the hotel, and staying for 6 nights at the hotel was pretty good.

I expected more... specially from the restaurants...

The check in was fast, doormen were great & helpful. The lobby looks classic & has charm. My 1st room was nice & super comfortable. The bed was the most comfortable ever. The bathroom was spacious, bright & had a great shower with good pressure. Unfortunately we were woken up at 8 AM by construction noise. Front desk said it was not in the hotel (my boyfriend saw signs of construction on the floor we were) & didnt look very happy about getting us another room. The 2nd room had two mattresses instead of one as we had before. The cleanliness of both rooms was impeccable & the housekeeping kept everything organized. The in-room entertainment is limited to a couple of movies & even tough the guest directory says there is a list of DVDs at Concierge, there are none available. The restaurants were my biggest disappointment. The Deli had a really slow service but the sandwiches & pastries were great. The main breakfast room was well decorated & had a great buffet but one of my guests asked for a French Toast & the waiter didnt know what to serve. I think it was brave of him to say that he didnt know what the dish was & he, after being told what it was, went back to the kitchen to have the dish prepared. Obviously the chef didnt know it either & sent something that was not a French Toast & even decorated the dish with tomatoes & parsley. The hotel is THE location in the city & one of the best hotels but some departments are not being as attentive as others.

Wonderful Hotel!

From the moment you enter the hotel, with the doorman welcoming you (as he has for the last several years), the reception and the room are all superb! The location is the best in Hamburg, overlooking Lake Alster and is very close to shopping and restaurants. I know of no finer hotel.

Outstanding Hotel

Everything is great about this hotel. We loved the quiet, well-designed room. The location was superb and the staff were very helpful. The waterside cafe is a pleasure to sit,drink and relax in as is the small Smoker's Bar.

Excellent hotel with excellent staff

Situated on the lakeside close to the city centre. Our room was lovely and spacious as was the bathroom. Newly re-furbished and had fresh fruit and a Nespresso coffee machine. The staff could not do enough, even remembered who you were and what room you were in. Excellent hotel but not 'stuffy' as some 5 stars can be. Would highly recommend.
