The stay was overall good with the front desk staff taking the gold star for helpful and friendliness. The room was spacious and clean but I do have a couple of comments. The TV in front of the bed, the power supply next to the outside TV, the safe deposit box and the hand soap dispenser did not work. But thank you for a comfortable stay.

The room was clean and the area was quiet. Märkisches Museum U-Bahn station was right outside the hotel which was very convenient. The mini bar included bottles of waters and beers on the first day but had to be collected from the front desk for the rest of the stay. The sauna was good, although it would have been better if the hours were more flexible - it's between 4pm and 11pm. Overall a good hotel for the price, would stay again!

Location is very convenient, staff was helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. There are laundry facilities. I would come back, happily.

The only very minor annoyance is the minibar, while free, is not stocked past the first day. One can pick up free minibar items at the reception, but that defeats the point of minibars.

Helpful friendly staff, who could all speak good English.
Didn't opt for breakfast, as very expensive compared to other hotels. Before coming here we stayed in Potsdam, where the breakfast was about half the cost, so we included it in our stay.
Very close underground link, which we used many times.
Nice area, with a lot of sites within easy walking distance.
This was our 2nd stay here & would recommend, but bathroom needs some TLC.

A tiny bit overpriced for what it was

Charming staff. The room had these hidden knickknacks and clever ways to put away your clothes, which was great. They had bicycles that were easy to use and that was a great day renting them. Pretty good location, near museum Island, and nice restaurants along the canal.

Overall, an outdated hotel. One of the two elevators was out of service so we found ourselves lucky if we didn’t have to wait a few minutes to get on the elevator.

They didn’t bring us new coffee when they cleaned our rooms. They missed cleaning out room one of the four nights we were there.

Coffee was instant coffee in a pouch which was OK. There was one packet of hot chocolate.

Our toilet didn’t flush and the plumber wasn’t available until Monday when it was stopped on a Saturday. Luckily it went down on its own.

This was a lovely stay! The area was quiet (considering there was construction on the street) and the service was very warm and considerate. I would stay here again.

I don't recommend it for individuals looking for a lively night life, and would recommend it if you are looking for a relaxing Berlin trip.

One of the Worst Hotel Experiences – Avoid at All Costs

My stay at Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst was deeply disappointing and stressful.

During my visit, around $650 in cash was stolen from my wallet inside my hotel room while housekeeping was cleaning. I had stepped out briefly to give them space, only to return and find my money gone. This happened in what should have been a secure environment.

The hotel staff was shockingly unhelpful. There was no real urgency or support. I was never advised to file a police report—I had to do that myself, in a foreign country, without any hotel assistance.

This wasn’t the only issue. My room was missing amenities I had paid for, and the overall quality didn’t match what was advertised. It felt careless and misleading.

In short, this hotel failed to protect its guests and deliver on basic promises. I left feeling stressed, unsafe, and incredibly dissatisfied. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

1st want to correct my checkin review. Staff mistakes told me that stays longer than 7 days will only have room cleaning once a week & that I had no option about this! Hotel quickly corrected this and cleaned my room everyday after I informed management.
Hotel potential to again be 4* is good. My room was actually well planned with 4 bottles of drink in fridge & coffee/tea pot for every night and great wifi. Love its steam room.
Staff & location close to Ubahn are topnotch. Great shower & excellent toiletries including body lotion. 2 English speaking TV channels;-) I do understand completely the hard economic recession wonderful Berlin has been thru.
It has outdated features that really need fixing up. 1. with global warming, no ac made 7/10 nights unbearable. Need to get room ac's back even if they're small room units during hot days to make booking this hotel worth it. 2. had 1 frayed hand towel with a hole, a no-no in a 4*hotel. Need old thin towels thrown out for better quality ones. 3. upgrade in-hotel restaurant menu 4. there were days the toilet had a horrible sewer stench. frequent flushing seemed to prevent this but not all the time. 1 time without using the toilet, the horrible stench just came out of what appears to be a clean toilet that was covered, maybe stench from next door room. The fact it was reversible tells me it should be definitely solvable to make booking this hotel worth it.

The staff at Living Hotel Großer Kurfürst were always attentive to my questions. They kindly helped me mail postcards and stored my bags when I arrived before check-in time. The room I had was spacious, particularly the bathroom. There was a nice view of the Spree from my room. The hotel is in an ideal location. Each morning, I could get a coffee and sit on a bench near the water. The Märkisches Museum station is adjacent to the hotel, and there are a number of buses nearby. Hard Wax and Tresor are a short walk away if you are into electronic music, especially techno! There's also Káffee Büro close by and Besh is not too far for delicious food. In the evenings, the hotel is very quiet, and I was able to get really good sleep.

This hotel was fabulous. We had a suite, a living room and bedroom. Everything about this place is great. Beautiful lobby, wonderful staff, perfect location. There was even a refrigerator in the room and they gave us 2 free bottles of water and 2 free bottles of beer each day of our stay. And the rate was very reasonable. I highly recommend this hotel. P.S. The Verona restaurant across the canal from the hotel was very good.

Service was great. All the staff were very friendly & helpful, with everyone speaking very good English.
The free water & beer was great & the Christmas gifts left on our door on our last day was an excellent touch.
Great location with everything accessible via the underground station, if needed to travel a bit further.

However, some things need a bit of attention. The bathroom suite needed upgrading & some days there was a strange smell. During our 7 day stay only one lift was working.

Would definitely recommend this hotel & definitely consider staying here again if we come back to Berlin.

Could have been better!

My stay for 2 nights was good, however, a few small things were annoying. Had to open window for fresh cool air (no A/C), really noisy street at night, no black out curtains with lots of streetlights shining in, only 2 English channels (CNN, BBC), would be nice to have a couple of English movie channels, no bottle opener in room to open courtesy water and beer bottles, an expensive (18 Euros) breakfast that did not look so good. It all could have been better with a little thought put into it. Bottom line - go somewhere else next time!

There was no air conditioning it was intolerably hot, we were there for 5 nights in summer and it felt like it was about 40degrees all night barely slept. I sweated profusely every night (I’m not normally a sweaty person) and there were massive sweat stains on my bedding that didn’t get changed once while we were there, the beds and pillows were awful, the cleaners took the tea towel away after the first day so we had to use towels they also kept putting my pyjamas in the bidet when they cleaned which was disgusting. Also there was no frypan or toaster only 2 pots so we couldn’t cook breakfast or other meals so it was a waste of money having the kitchen I would have rathered stay elsewhere. Some of the staff were lovely, others barely helpful,

This hotel is not four stars!!! Yes, it's clean, and it looks gorgeous, but there is no essential service that a 4-star hotel has. There was no room service, I couldn't get towels sent to my room, I had to go to the front desk, and then I waited 20 minutes till they checked other guests in. There was no A/C. The pillows were incredibly soft, so you are sunken in them; I had terrible neck pain and bad sleep throughout my five-day trip. Not worth the money.

This property was a lovely one. I felt like I was staying at the Grand Budapest, its definitely a bit outdated, but the staff were friendly and they had lovely little gifts (complimentary beer and water, a refrigerator in room, great communication). The location is perfect and can't be beat and it was competitive pricing for the area.

Decent place for a week's break.

We were able to do early check in, which was brilliant. The member of staff who was on the check in desk was lovely and really helpful.

Because of early check in however, we weren't in the room we had booked, which was slightly disappointing, but didn't matter too much!

The room itself was of a large enough size for two people to live for 8 days, with two single beds, TV, desk, two chairs, mini fridge and separate bathroom.
However it wasn't the cleanest room for a 4* hotel, the carpet in 617 was extremely stained, and the bathroom not the cleanest when we arrived.

The location of the hotel is fantastic, with a subway station just outside and many attractions and landmarks within a nice walk, or short subway ride away.

Great hotel right next to the Märkisches Museum U-bahn (train) stop! The location is walking distance to all the museum island attractions. Walks along the riverfront were scenic. Restaurant located on site.

The room was spacious and well maintained. Plenty of space for my items. Bathroom was also spacious and had a nice big tub for soaking.

The staff were professional and extremely pleasant. When I arrived check in was easy and I was given free beers, bottled water, and items for the coffee bar.

I highly recommend staying here!

Location near ubahn, excellent! Received room upgrade and late checkout. And 20% off in restaurant. All, VIP benefits. Room was amazing, with small kitchen, living room, bedroom and huge bathroom. Also, mini terrace. Amenities left much to be desired, however otherwise great room. Fitness room adequate, but nothing special. Didn’t eat at restaurant, but looked good. Staff friendly and helpful. Would stay here again.

This hotel exceeded expectations and was really a great value. They had nice little touches like 2 free beers and waters in the room each day, a free sauna and spa area, large bathrooms, etc. The location is just outside of the typical central Berlin but turned out to be perfect and one could walk to all the major destinations or use public transit with ease.

Loud musik and Partying on the hotel premises and in the lobby on two nights.
On the Thursday I tried to order Room service, but after 2x3-5 minutes of them not picking up, I tried the front desk, they informed that it was Oriental Night and tus they probably was too busy to care about room service.
They suggested I walked to the restaurant and ordered, as they it was not their job to assist with room service. I decided to take my money elsewhere.
The hotel has promise, but the service, approach to in hotel parties and attitude need a massive upgrade.
I will for sure not be coming back.

Very good hotel ,very handy for the u bahn, stop within metres of hotel entrance, would certainly stop again,The only downside was the restaurant in the hotel,we waited thirty minutes after being seated ,for a menu then only when we stopped someone to ask for it,after ordering a main ,and finishing, we waited one hour until we again had to ask for the table to be cleared, we had been ignored pretty much all night,after again asking for the bill we left very disappointed with the service, we thought we would retreat to the hotel bar,this was not a good idea,we were greeted with a grunt by the young bartender, we were served after ten minutes, as we asked for the bill we were treated to another grunt, and that was the total conversation of the night, disappointing as the hotel could be much more of an experience all round with jus a little more imagination,

Hotel was about 15 minutes walk from Alexanderplatz and checkpoint charlie, it is in a good area. The rooms were quite spacious and were very clean. The beds were very comfortable.
The hotel supply a mobile phone for your use during your stay ad give you 2 bottles of water and 2 bottles of beer free when you arrive and if you use them they are replaced for free the next day. There are restaurants beside and near the hotel.

Everything about this Hotel was excellent. The rooms are spacious and immaculate clean. The Hotel has all the amenities you could wish for (including a well equipped laundry for guests to use, which most travellers would appreciate). The location is also excellent for getting around with an U-ban station right next door and supermarket 200m away and Alexandrerplatz only 10-15 minutes walk away.

The area is very quiet, not exciting like Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg, but much cleaner.

Very nice hotel with lots of amenities included.

It’s a really nice hotel and they give you a free cell phone to use while you stay, as well as free beer and bottled water. Very nice gesture. It was great for the price and very centrally located.

Fantastic location

This hotel is in an excellent location and within easy walking distance to the Nikolaiviertel and the Alexander Platz. For those who would rather use the U-Bahn, there is a station right next to the hotel.
Our room was comfortable and the breakfast buffet had a nice variety of items to choose from. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will make this hotel our first choice on our future trips to Berlin.
