Everything was outstanding, the room was spotless, the staff were warm and welcoming and the spa… absolutely loved it. The restaurant deserves special mention too, beautiful ambiance and truly delicious food, easily a 10/10.

Amazing Jr Suite well appointed, spacious, comfortable, clean and quiet for sleeping. The Van der Valk Amsterdam Amstel is 5 minutes walk to the Metro fantastic for touring around Amsterdam. The hotel itself is English speaking, beautifully decorated with a first floor bar and restaurant both upscale. The first floor hosts the daily breakfast which is nothing short of 5 star. Wellness Tropen is included with Steam room, Saunas, showers and heated outdoor pool not to mention the lovely lounging areas. Definitely 5*.

Tiny and very dark rooms. Very small gym, menu in the dinning restaurants is very limited .. room service staff are loud , laughter in the corridor , and not respectful , they knocked the door hard to say you have to leave because you are late.. and the list goes on. too expensive for such experience.

If you're into goth style then this might be your place, room I got was black, which is an odd color for a room. The toilet had a rather weird wallpaper (at least i hope it was wallpaper) green leafs and island birds on it. The staff told me they weren't part of the chain of van der valk hotels but had the part of the same name as the chain and used the exact same logo, that's sounds like copyright infringement to me but its a different country maybe they do things differently there. I mention this because somehow i end up there instead of the hotel i was trying to book (van der valk Haarlem), could of sworn i triple check the name before booking. Asked if they could help me transfer the reservation but they said that they weren't a part of the chain. I could leave but that they wouldn't refund me, i ended up almost an hour away from where I should have been.

Nice Hotel Let Down by Extra Charges & Rude Staff

At first the hotel seemed attractive, but several issues soon became clear. The pool is outdoors, which was not obvious from the photos, so if the weather is bad you are exposed to the elements. The hotel also charges extra for many things, including breakfast which many Amsterdam hotels include, spa access and bathrobes, so the advertised price may not be the whole picture.

On my last night I requested a late checkout and was told there was normally a fee but that it had been 'sorted'. The next day as I was about to leave an angry staff member banged on my door, accused me of lying and demanded I go to reception to pay immediately. I understand mistakes can happen, but being treated like a dishonest guest was upsetting. The situation could have been handled far more politely, although she did apply a small discount in the end.

Some staff, especially in the bar, were genuinely lovely, so it is a shame that the experience was marred by how I was treated at the end. I have stayed at this chain elsewhere with only positive experiences, but this incident has left me questioning how new guests might be treated.

Already 2nd time here. Love this hotel. Very friendly and professional people. Front Desk staff is very friendly, professional, was nice impression on arrival. Room is spacious, hotel is very clean, spa is amazing, gym has everything you need for your training. Restaurant for breakfast is great. Lovely hotel for visiting Amsterdam. It is great value for money as it is slightly further out but it’s a 10 minute cycle ride to De Pijp and tourist areas. If you are not cycling you will likely need to use public transport to get around the city. The hotel room was immaculate and spacious. We had a huge window and the bathroom facilities were great. Parking was easy - plenty of space and very secure. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was also really quiet on an evening. Would highly recommended and I would book again.

I stayed at the Van der Valk Hotel and was genuinely impressed. This is a beautiful, modern hotel in a fantastic location—just a short 2-minute walk to the metro and less than 15 minutes into central Amsterdam. It’s the ideal balance of convenience and calm.

The staff were welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. My room was spacious, spotless, and stylishly designed, with all the modern comforts you’d hope for. The on-site spa and gym were excellent additions, perfect for unwinding or keeping up with a fitness routine.

Honestly, I can’t see why anyone would leave a negative review. Everything exceeded expectations, and I’ll definitely be staying here again the next time I visit Amsterdam. Highly recommended!

My bf and I had an AMAZING stay here! We booked a penthouse suite and it did not disappoint. Great panoramic views of the city, walkable to the Overamstel station, great amenities and great room. Only downside is it is about a 20min train ride to the central area of town so we’ll likely stay closer next time but for a luxury stay, we would highly recommend.

The room was nice, the hotel is a little out of the way but it’s a pretty walk to the nearby metro. The spa was great, and very welcome after a long flight.
Note though, the ‘fridge’ in the room is not a fridge! I bought some supplies and put them in there. Only to have my food be warm the next day. I had to throw away my yoghurt and salad. I was told that it was meant to keep temperature, not keep things cold.
Apart from that a great stay, friendly staff and a positive experience.

I had higher expectations for this hotel given its high-rise design and facilities. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite match.

Despite the hotel having many upper floors with views, I was assigned a room on the 4th floor — which is effectively the first floor above the gym, offices, and other service areas. It lacked the views and quiet I had hoped for.

We placed the “Please clean the room” sign before leaving in the morning, but when we returned late in the evening, the room had not been cleaned. I also had to call twice to receive the complimentary daily water — the first request was ignored, and only after the second call (20+ minutes later) was it delivered.

The hotel has potential, but attention to basic service and room assignment makes a big difference, especially for guests expecting more.

The door for the toilet is made of transparent glass. I am not kidding you. If you are sitting on the toilet, everyone in the room will be able to see you. It was extremely embarrassing. This has to be the worst design decision ever taken. Who makes a toilet door transparent?! I cannot even believe it.

We loved this property! We booked the Family Suite. It included bunk beds in a separate room with its own TV. The main suite was well appointed, clean and a nice size. One note, all of the family suites are next to the elevator but we weren't disturbed by any noise. The amenities at this hotel were outstanding with 2 restaurants off the lobby and a spa, no fee required. We loved the spa as it has a sauna, steam room, bucket shower, heat swings, outdoor pool, beds for lounging, foot bath, filtered water, ample towels... just awesome. One downside is the location is a 20 minute taxi ride from downtown. There's a metro station very nearby but no shopping or cafes in the area. Altogether, a great stay!

The hotel was a pleasant discovery. Didnt expect it to be so beautiful and so well themed. A very warm welcome at the reception by the team, we have got our room straight away, which is amazing. You feel welcomed and expected. Property is very clean and well maintained. Room is amazing. Spacious, comfortable, big panoramic windows and view on the river side. Loved tropical theme of the hotel and our room. Thank you to the housekeeping for making it clean for our arrival. I liked, that they have green initiative and no cleaning in daily basis. Only when you really need you can request. Shower gel and soap is amazing, even purchased for myself (at the reception you can buy it). SPA is superb. Amazing tropic sauna, finnish sauna and steam. All also decorated as tropical theme. Swimming pool is small. Gym is fine, you have all you need for your fitness holiday routine. Restaurant is great, but would not reccomend steak, but carpaccio, seafood, oysters are great. Bar is great and even you can order any cocktail of your choice even if its not on the menu.
Hotel is 2 min walk to the train station and you can reach in 10 min the center. Very easy, very convenient. Loved our stay and definitely will be back.

Romantic weekend for two and it was exactly that. We spent the day exploring Amsterdam and then the evening in the hotel spa. Breakfast had a wide selection. I opted for the freshly cooked omelette plus more.
Can’t fault the Van Der Valk Amstel. Metro station literally 5min walk. Johnny Rivers cafe opposite with the best vibes and good lunch option if not eating in hotel

10/10 hotel. Second time staying here. Rooms are spacious and stunning decor (altho some wear and tear in the rooms). The jet bath is incredible! The breakfast buffet is also great, lots of choices depending on what you fancy. I do think some of the food could be seasoned better but still good. The train station is a 5 minute walk from the hotel so easy connections to central Amsterdam and other places. Room service pizza is quick and delicious. All in all a fabulous stay and would recommend for couples looking for a romantic getaway and want some peace and quiet but still within distance to the sites!

Avoid to stay this hotel if you expected a 4 start

My experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. If it were a 2 star hotel, I might have understood, but this establishment is far from deserving four stars. The hospitality, the quality of the staff—none of it met the standards one would expect from a 4star hotel. This experience reminded me that stars are not just about having facilities.

The mineral water provided in the room could not be opened without a bottle opener, yet no opener was provided. When I inquired at the front desk, I was told that they often forget to place them in the rooms due to the high number of rooms, but at that moment, they had none available. As a result, I tried to open the bottle by other means and ended up injuring myself.

The staff were unhelpful and lacked any motivation. They did not assist with our luggage, even though we were struggling with back pain. The prices were set high, but the service did not match the cost.

Furthermore, the location is far from the central area, and while the proximity to the subway station is highlighted as a plus, the station leading to the city center was closed, forcing us to rely on taxis. Waiting for a taxi took a long time, making it inconvenient for both business and leisure.

I chose this hotel because of the advertised sauna and spa, but found only one small, overcrowded sauna in operation. The so-called heated pool was outdoors and too cold to use.

Here’s a piece of advice: Always read reviews starting with the negative ones.

A really disappointing stay at a hotel I’ve stayed at several times before and never had issues. Long queue to check in due to there not being enough staff. I informed reception my wife was allergic to feathers and they assured me the room contained no feathers. When we got to the room, two of the four pillows contained feathers as did the cushion on the armchair. We called reception to get them removed and replaced immediately but were just on hold for the minutes before someone hung up! Tried contacting reception via WhatsApp and they got back to us eventually. Someone removed the pillows/cushions and have us one strange pillow to replace them. We asked for another but were told there were no other pillows on the property which was bizarre. Nobody bothered to check on the welfare of my wife who had been exposed to feathers. Robe and slippers no longer provided - have to pay extra to rent those now! Went to the spa and two of the steam rooms weren’t working properly. On checkout the receptionist asked how my stay was to which I replied it was ‘OK’ but she didn’t probe to find out why it wasn’t excellent which seems quite a basic requirement. Overall extremely disappointing/dangerous and we won’t be staying here again.

Our stay at the Van der Valk Hotel Amsterdam-Amstel was a pleasant and comfortable experience. The hotel features modern, well-maintained rooms that provided us with a restful environment after exploring the city. The staff were attentive and courteous.

The location of the hotel is a definite plus, which made getting around Amsterdam straightforward and convenient.

TLDR:
Some things could've been better specially considering the price of the stay.
I'd most likely come back to this hotel.

Things to note prior to booking:

Facilities lacking an ice machine. Had to go to the bar to get ice and they could not provide me a bucket of ice. Bar only open until midnight so I couldn't get ice from midnight to whenever they open.

Requested more coffee pods at 5am as we had to be at the airport for 8am but there was no room service at that time. Slightly disappointing service hours for a 4-star hotel.

The beds are very comfortable, bed holds heat well. I prefer sleeping when it's cold so this was not a plus for me. Just my preference, did not affect the rating of the place.

Room thermostat resets once a day back to 21 Celsius. Very annoying when you're jetlagged and trying to sleep then it gets hot all of a sudden.

FYI: Does not have NA-style electrical outlets. I thought maybe they'd have the combination-style receptacles due to their clientele. Did not affect my rating of the hotel.
