There is no elevator, and rooms up to the 4th floor.Approachable via winding, narrow stairs. with luggage it's a challenge and not safe from falling down. After I managed to climb to 4th floor, I figured no heat from wall heater nor from the one in the bathroom. Went back to the receptionist...mind you...below the first floor and complained. The guy said to wait 15 min. So I climbed back up again and waited for 30 min. Still ice cold. Climbing down again, asking for a different room with working heater. Now he cranked out a double room on 1st floor, but bathroom only available across the floor, not en Suite. So I agreed, and there was no discount offered for the hassle. On the end I was drenched in sweat from all the climbing up and down. I also noted there was no cup available for brushing teeth...not in the bedroom and not in the bathroom. All in all, I wont book this hotel again. Imo an affordable price doesn't justify inferior service or facility.

Ok if you simply need a place to sleep

The hotel is very basic and the rooms are tired. We had the good room with a private wetroom in the corridor outside our room. However the door couldn't be locked from the inside. Needless to say I wasn't going to shower in there. The way in is up a steep staircase to the first floor (more stairs to our room) so getting luggage up and down was tricky. The room was tired and very, very noisy at night. The area is down at heel and doesn't feel fully safe. The room was clean but even so we only stayed one night and booked ourselves into another hotel for the remaining 2 nights of our stay in Hamburg. We do recommend the excellent Indian Singh hiding one the first floor a little way up the road.

No lifter to the rooms, have to climb the stairs up to your room, no breakfast, no room service, but the room is recently refurbished is clean and with acceptable space, is an option if you pay cheap or there are no other near by

Good enough for me

Been there several times, it is fairly close to the railway station, so easy access for a late night arrival and it is NOT a hostel or dorm or a flea pit like most of the other hotels in the area
Friendly guy that runs it. This place used to be a bit of a dive, but over recent years he has done the rooms up and they are of a good standard. Area it's self is a bit rough and quite scary but I have never been bothered and generally walk down the next street to access it

Smokey smell in a non-smoking room

The photos look nothing like the real place (anymore).

The single room I rented was on the 5th floor, no elevator. The room was \"non smoking\" but there was a very very strong smoke smell in the room.
There was no more soap in the soap dispenser.
The carpet had an unimaginable amount of stains and was peeling off at the corners. There was a horrible smell coming from the carpet.
There was no desk, just a small table.
Electrical wires are strung along the wall.
There is a nice big closet for clothes.
The bed was decent, I slept well. The curtains and windows were half broken.

The surrounding area is very seedy. Upside is that eateries and usually open late, mostly kebab. It's loud outside day and night but on the fifth floor not too much of a bother.

The bathroom and shower is shared. There's one toilet per floor. Toilet paper was out for most of the time. There are two shower cabins. The shower room was renovated recently but awkward in size and design. The warm water runs out after about 6 minutes. There is no soap. Towels are provided.

Check in was easy. The man did not seem to know what he was doing.
Reception was open till midnight. A keycard is provided to open the downstairs door afterwards.

I was expecting a bit more from this hotel, based on the pictures. Or at least a lower price.

This is a brave little hotel in a downtown area. My room was very clean and in good decorative order. The bed was comfortable. It was quiet and I slept well. It is a budget hotel and I got more than a budget experience so I have no complaints.

The breakfast was a bonus however there were other real problems. The shower room requires some update and maintainance, having a unpleasant shower base with mould showing in several places. The reception staff needed more training trying to charge me for the room which I had already paid Expedia for. Mediocre, even within its price band

We needed somewhere inexpensive and central as a base for an activity weekend, so I guess we got that, but having stayed in plenty of similarly priced and situated hotels in other German cities, in comparison this one is a bit below par. The hotel was surprisingly quiet at night (given the location) and our beds were comfortable, the in-room bathroom new, and there are plenty of good places to eat nearby (the Persian restaurant across the road is very good). However, there was a dirty duster on the floor when we arrived (and a small pile of dust), towels hadn't been provided (we had to ask - and we did this twice during our five-day stay) and there wasn't enough toilet paper provided (we had to ask for that as well). The shared bathroom facilities looked in dire need of deep renovation and there was clear need for repairs in the bedrooms as well (e.g. missing bits of doorframe). Ok for what we needed, but it wouldn't be our first choice on another occasion.

The shared shower turned out to be a shower cubicle inside a cupboard. There was about a foot of space between the cupboard door and the shower and a foot at the side of the shower and the wall. Meaning you had to get undressed and dressed partially inside the shower. I've seen better shared shower facilities in a low grade hostel.

Even for \"budget\" accomodation...

The room was clean, the staff (what little I saw of them) were polite and the location is convenient to the train station. Otherwise there is not much good to say about it. For example, the door to the shared WC wouldn't lock, although it was also so hard to open that you'd have warning if someone tried to come in. One of two shared showers was closed; the other was installed in a hall closet in a way that made it extremely awkward to use. Noise at night was disruptive, mainly from the street but to some extent from within the building.

Room was fantastic but up 5 flights of steps which may hinder some especially if they are full of beer - but OK
Room was clean and bed comfortable
View outside on the terrace was great and a welcome change from being cramped up looking thru a dirty window (that barely opens) which is the norm for Hamburg
The external bathroom and shower have not been updated and the complete opposite of the room in that were quite smelly and a tight fit for anyone of a large build
I was only stopping over night and had an early start so the free breakfast next door was a welcome change
Not the hotels fault but the area can be un pleasant and there seems to be more prostitutes than ever before (even at 7AM in the morning) and they seem to be more persistent in chasing you for your trade - all seems to be migrants, still you can't fault them they have come to the promised land of Germany and they all have got themselves a job in the worlds oldest trade!

Booked by accident this hotel does not make a good first impression and it is in a busy Turkish area of the city (which is not much of a holiday when you live in Turkey!). But we could walk everywhere from the hotel, it was near the station and some great restaurants (and Lidl!), it was clean and quiet at night and the staff were helpful... I wouldn't necessarily book it again, but really came to appreciate its qualities after a poor start.

6th floor walkup hotel. Walk to HBF station.

The room was 5 floors above the ground level, so in the US we would topically call it the 6th floor. No elevator so we had to walk up. The room key didn’t work so we had to walk back down to the lobby to get it sorted out. We were moved to another room which was still dirty. We left our luggage and turned in the key (as required). When we got back that night we asked for the room key and the front desk never asked to see our ID. We walked into the room and it was occupied by another guest. After getting yelled at by the front desk for asking for the wrong key, it was finally sorted out, after multiple trips up and down the stairs. Twice during our stay we had to wait 10+ minutes for someone to come to the desk to get our key. Also, no-one ever asked for our identification when getting the room key. This is very unsafe to hand out keys to rooms without asking for ID! Security risk. Our soap in bathroom was nearly empty and never replenished even after specifically asking for it. Free breakfast was simple but ok.

This was the worst Hotel I ever sah. I refused to stay in this no Star hotel. My Partner witches is handicapped and has trouble to use stairs, could not have gotten up the stairs and there was no Elevator in the house. This was an other reason to refuse to stay there.

Okay for a night or two

We booked a double room with shared toilet and got a three single bed room which was like staying in the living room of old rundown house with the walls and the old carpet breathing out old cigarette smell. The reception is on the 1st floor. The hotel doesnot have lift so you have to carry your bags up the stairs. Wifi had good speed and worked well. The bed linens and towels were perfectly clean. The shared toilet was surprisingly very clean. The included breakfast was okay if you went early enough as nothing was replaced once over. The hotel is close to the bus and train station.

it was an absolute disaster. we ofc knew it is now a top-end hotel but we specifically booked a room with TC channels, bathroom, hair dryer, desk etc. The TV was not working, there was no desk or hair dryer - but most of all there was not toilet or bathroom.

There was blood on the sheets, the bathroom is shared and the toilet was not flushed, the whole hotel smells, the carpets are so dirty, YOU CANNOT KEEP YOUR ROOM KEY WITH YOU! they force you to give them the room key when you leave and then you take it when you re-enter the hotel. When I re-entered the hotel, All i said was my room number and they gave me the keys without any ID check. The carpets where dirty as well. I literally stayed there for 4 hours then switched to another hotel. This is a 1 star motel at best.

Unfortunately a poor experience

old hotel with no lift and steep stairs as access over 3 floors. rooms are basic with shared bathrooms. sadly the room I stayed in - number 12 - had a broken sink and a very strong smell of urine coming from in which on inspection showed there was rotting wood under the sink saturated with it. Was moved to a nice room but it should be obvious to the hotel manager this room should not be used by guests. staff were fine. shower was on a different floor. breakfast in a hotel next door was ok but basic.

One of the worst places I have ever stayed

Avoid if possible. The area, while close to the main station, is dodgy and dirty. The room was dirty. The bedside table drawer hasn't been cleaned for weeks. Toilet in the hallway and breakfast nothing special. I was trying to save a few Euros and ended up regretting it. Avoid if possible.

We had a room with a shower that had no hot water, so we had to use the communal bathroom!
Also after checking out I started to breakout with bed bug bites all over my body, they are even on my face! I have at lest 100 bites all over me, causing extreme discomfort!! Absolutely disgusting!
I would never in my life stay here again!

Where to start...
This was, by a longshot, the worst hotel stay of my life - and we've stayed in some real doozies.

To be fair, Hamburg can be a relatively expensive city.
And we were definitely bargain hunting for this one-night stay.

BUT...

First I must confess, I wrongly assumed this room would have it's own shower and toilet - nope!
This was clearly my fault as I should have seen this in the booking details.
There was a sink in the room (with burn marks). And, careful with the water temperature, I got burned.

From here on out though, all of the usual bad room clichés apply.

• The room stank of cigarette smoke
• Hair IN the bed
• Muddy footprints on the floor
• There was only ONE shower for the ENTIRE hotel!?
• \"Cardboard\" thick door made it impossible to safely leave valuables in the room
• Heating unit used as an ashtray
• Toilet had no locks - you could see right into the hallway through the open keyhole
• Top floor walk-up
• Sketchy Neighborhood

The Wikinger Hof did offer free WiFi, and a small continental breakfast buffet (hard boiled eggs, bread rolls, spreads and cheese). The coffee was awful though.

My advice, pony up a few more shekels and get yourself a room closer to the harbor.

Give this dump a miss

This place might be decent, with only a few, minor fixes. As it is, it's just plain crummy. The neighborhood is sketchy, although safe, it's just filled with nefarious characters, dirty parks, litter-strewn streets, run-down shops and bars. The hotel itself is just crummy, but could be made tolerable with a few simple fixes. First, the staff. As unfriendly as any I've experienced throughout traveling in Germany and Austria for a month. They insisted on my paying the full amount up front (1st and ONLY time that has happened) Then, the guy charged my credit card twice (I'm still trying to resolve this with hotels.com). The room was okay, except when I opened the closet to find 10 or so empties. The shower was broken, and the wifi is so slow, I think writing a letter would be more efficient. I know this is a so-called \"budget\" place, and I really don't need a lot of comforts, but this place was just unacceptable. I booked it for three nights, bailed after two...

The hotel is about a kilometere from the station in a seedy part of town inappropiate
shops nearby there are stairs circular ones that you have to negotiate that are very narrow I asked for a ground floor room but was given the third floor there are steps leading up to reception they took my suitcase up the first day but on departure I asked for it to be taken down and waited for 15 mins and ended up taking it down myself if youre young and fit it is ok but anything else I wouldnt reccomend it

This hotel was not worth the money in any sense. It was overall a very bad experience. There isn't wifi like they advertise, there is no air conditioning, there aren't showers on every floor so you have to walk up/down stairs in your towel, there was an odd odor in the room when we arrived, the receptionist was rude and the area of the city it was located in was not safe at night. The complimentary breakfast was also a hoax and was just rolls and butter and a coffee machine. My girlfriend and I didn't know much about Hamburg when we went to visit, and we picked this hotel with the expectations that come along with its price point, but we were very disappointed with our experience there. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

A big mistake....

My mistake, but I booked a room without a bathroom. The toilet was the other side of the corridor and the shower room - one between I have no idea how many - was on the 4th floor. The soap ran out and took some days to replace, they ran out of hot water, the shower did not fully close so the bathroom was flooded, the floor was slippery and potentially a hazard, all in all, not a good bathroom experience. The room itself was not so bad, but I bumped the wall mounted TV (the remote hardly worked and the TV could only be turned on/off manually) and so much dust came off it I thought it was snowing! The wash-basin in the room was, I thought, not cleaned properly, but I then realized that maybe it was, but the water was so slow to run down the plughole that it left a deposit in the sink - I fear that the plughole was almost blocked, but doubt anybody is about to do anything about it. The hotel was supposed to have internet access, but when I arrived I was told it was not available, it would be back on at 10AM the following day, then the day after, and again....it never worked for the entire stay. Finally, breakfast was just about acceptable, but not as good as other hotels of comparable price. Most disappointing is that looking at the price breakdown, I paid over €80 on one night for this hotel - it was barely worth €40. I can assure one and all that I will never stay in this hotel again. Ever.

Don't let bad reviews put you off!

Hotel Wikinger is located just under a 10 minute walk from the Central Train Station; which is very convenient if you intend to travel around - as you can make use of the Metro & Train services. I booked a room Economy Single room - which had a private bathroom, so unfortunately can’t comment on the use of the shared bathrooms. The room was clean to my surprise and my stay was comfortable. I also didn’t encounter any problems with the WiFi it seemed to work well. The breakfast was adequate and they offered things like: bread, cheese, cereal, hot and cold drinks. I read quite a few reviews which stated that most of the staff couldn’t speak English. The staff I dealt with spoke Basic English to get by – so please don’t be like me and worry if you don’t know German! The only bad thing was the neighbourhood area, as a single woman traveller, especially for me - it was scary and daunting to walk alone when it started to get dark. This is because the area is full of men & also casinos, exotic shops and bars on this strip. Also, just to point out that there is no lift. Overall, it was a good base to rest my head. If I were planning to go back to Hamburg I would still consider booking this hotel again.

Great if you are on a budget and find a really good deal, otherwise you may be better off somewhere else that can offer you a decent night's sleep and a little more willingness from staff.

Ideal for me as my stay was just overnight. I would not recommend for a romantic break for 2 but for people passing through or boys weekend.

An Average hotel, worst thing is shared bathroom, breakfast is okay but Hotel staff is not friendly. As per the services the Hotel room charges is very high. not recommended.

I wouldn't call it a hotel, more like a hostel

We stayed as a couple here and the place was terrible. The booking was made as a shared bathroom, and when we realised the mistake the reception guy said he would give us a room with a shower. The next day another reception guy told told us not to use it... Confusing.

The toilets were the worst we'd used on our trip, even the kebab shops and bars has nice clean toilets in good condition, the place really needs to be renovated.

The bed was awful.

For any couples staying they apparently only have twin rooms that you can put the beds together but thats it. On the hotels.com website it says double or twin, this should be twin only.

Hamburg is a nice place, don't use this hotel if you want a good nights rest...

And the breakfast in the morning is depressing, especially the bread quality.

The last thing that really put the nail in the coffin for this place was when we asked to leave our luggage till 4pm. The guy said sure but it would cost us 2 euros. What a joke. That's the service level for this \"hotel\".

The staff were nice and friendly, but who cares, it's a hotel business and they are supposed to be!

Hotel commensurate with price

On the positive side, beds are very comfortable and the cold breakfast is decent. However, we left the second night after discovering a year's worth of dust bunnies under the bed. Our first bedroom reeked of cigarette smoke. The single shower is on the fourth floor. Conveniently located near the train station in a sketchy neighbourhood, especially for single women.

If you are looking for a poor hotel, with no shower, with no toilets in the room, with windows that doesn't block noises, with high cost of 120 Euro per night - THIS hotel is for you! stay away!!!

Valitsin halvimman hotellin ja sitä myös sain. Hotelli oli ihan siisti, mutta vähän kulahtanut. Isoin ongelma oli alue, jolla hotelli sijaitsi. Se oli hyvin epäsiisti ja tuntui jopa vähän epäturvalliselta, ainakin perjantai-iltana.

There is no lift on ground floor so you need to carry your big luggage to 1st floor
Staircase is quite dirty although the room itself is acceptable.
One of the staff is very helpful whitle another one is not that helpful.

Please avoid

Clean towels and sheets, but that was pretty much the only thing that was good. The whole room smelled like someone had been smoking in in (though prohibited), mold in the shower roof, cracks in the ceiling, part of the bed lamp was loose, the shower hose was leaking from everywhere, and I could go on. I don’t think that any money was spent on fixing things the last couple of years.

Bra överlag, rent och bra med eget badrum. Prisvärt. Ingen hiss upp till första våningen utan en lång trappa upp. Men mannen i receptionen var trevlig och hjälpte till att bära väskan. Området låg på gångavstånd från tågstationen. Restauranger och småbutiker. Livligt på dagtid men skulle inte velat gå omkring där ensam efter mörkrets inbrott då affärerna stängt.

Eine schreckliche Umgebung, hatten uns sehr unwohl gefühlt. Parkplätze sind nicht vorhanden. Das Zimmer hatte wohl eine Terrasse aber da standen die Mülltonnen und die leeren Kästen. Die Balkontüre mussten wir schließen, da ein Lüfter die ganze Zeit lief. Es war einfach viel zu laut.

When placing the booking it did not say there was no wc in the room. Had to get a key to a joined wc and shower. Please state that better, when(if) rooms do not have these facilities, it must be marked specifically.

Til prisen er hotellet ok.
Man skal lige være opmærksom på at ligger fra 1.sal og opefter. Der ingen elevator. Trappen er relativ stejl og smal, ikke det bedste valg hvis man er gangbesværet.
Fin afstand til hovedbanegården samt nærmeste U-bane.

Jeg overnattet på Wikinger Hof kun en natt (heldigvis!)
Hotellet ligger ca 5 min unna Hamburg Hbf og det var det eneste positive. Område - muslimsk ghetto, med masse utledninger og narkomaner. Følte meg ikke trygg.
Selve hotellet har 3 stjerner, ville aldri tenkt det. Dårlig standard. I beskrivelsen av enkeltrom opplyses det ikke at rommet har kun seng. Altså hverken bad eller do! Dusj og wc er felles i gangen. På rommet var kun et vask, men med kun kaldt vann.
Det er ikke heis i bygget! Masse trapp å gå opp, med bagasje er det ikke noe særlig.
Sengen var myk og god, men sengetøy var skittent.
Tv fungerte ikke.
Internett fungerte bra.
Betalte 50€ for en natt, og synes ikke det var verdt prisen. Det finnes bedre 3-stjernes hoteller i Hamburg med bedre standard.

Value for money.

Very clean rooms. Beds were fine and comfortable. Friendly staff. Easy check-in/out. Facilities outside rooms are kind of worn down. But not an issue at all. Great value for money if you are looking for a cheap hotel in the city center. Lots of restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood.
