Very rude staff. They don’t have elevator till 2nd floor so be ready to take your luggage to upstairs and then find elevator from the maze. No early check in available, leave your luggage and wonder in full of Dr*g area and night time be ready for street full of prostitution hub. Will not recommend at all. And DO NOT pay for the terrible terrible Breakfast

The hotel is close to Hamburg Central Station. This was the only good thing about it. I booked a single room of 258 sq. feet with a king bed. I received a single room with two single beds. I pointed out to the front desk that this was not what I booked. They responded that I booked a single room, and they are giving me two single beds, which is better than one single bed. Thermostat in the shower didn’t work and there was no hot water. The staff came to the room and tried to adjust the temperature. After some time, they said that water is OK. Water temperature was about 30 C. I told them that this is barely warm. They asked: “so you want hot water in the shower?”. I said: “yes, this is normal at a hotel”. The staff left to the “warehouse” to adjust something. In any case, there was no hot water as of midnight.
In the morning, I called the front desk again. Housekeeping staff managed to fiddle with the thermostat and make somewhat warm water. However, when I reopened water on the same setting, it was cold again.
It is a simple thermostat, so it should be easy to use. But the temperature adjusting handle was not working well. It seems it was not properly engaged to the internal element.
Anyway, I never managed to have a regular hot shower (with the setting on the limiter)
The staff also didn’t speak good English. Generally, it was the worst hotel stay in my life, and I have been to many hotels. A wrong bed in a smaller room, without hot shower is too much for one stay.

The street and area that the hotel is in seems very dodgy and noisy.
The hotel is close to the main station and the main bus station.
The staff at reception seemed to reflect the area. The person handling our check-in could not speak English and his German was barely understandable.
The room was large, comfortable and clean.
There are steep stairs up to the first floor, where one can (sometimes) catch an elevator to the next floor. Not recommended for anyone with hip-knee problems. The first day the elevator also did not seem to work.
The bathroom was clean and functional, though some of the towels were so threadbare that I could have pushed my finger through some areas.
The television only had three channels - 2 German shopping channels and Al Jazeera.
The general impression of the place is tiredness. There were stains in the basin, the one bed lamp cover had holes in it, there were small holes in the duvet cover.

Despite having a room facing onto the street, we did not experience the noise and commotion that other guests seem to have encountered. Our room was quiet, but we made sure to be back in the room before nightfall, as we would not have felt comfortable in the area after dark.

The room was close to the main train station and was clean and sufficient. That was what we needed.
However, there was no elevator to the floor where rooms could be accessed. We had to carry two large, heavy suitcases up a very long, narrow staircase, and back down.

The most concerning thing was the feel of the neighborhood. I knew that it would be shady when booking near the HBh, but it and it was pretty sketching coming home at night. Lots of men lingering on the streets gawking at me and my teenage daughters.

Nice hotel near the station.

Stayed in Hamburg for a football weekend to go to a couple of matches. We hired a triple room which was perfect for our needs. Great clean hotel, easy to find in a central location a few minutes walk from the station.
Area was OK but a lot of homeless people wandering about but there didn't hassle us, may put families off though.
All in all a great find and will be staying here again on our next football trip.

You are better off buying a Deutschlandticket and staying in Lubeck or Bremen.

I had booked this hotel because it was close to the train station - I came in by train and was due to leave by train the next morning. I was a little apprehensive after reading all of the negative reviews, but I was pleased overall with my stay here.

The hotel offers the basic amenities for a comfortable night's stay: comfortable bed, cleaning bedding, nice pillow, blackout curtains, a television (I did not turn mine on so I cannot comment on the channels), a hot shower, a modern toilet, bath and hand towels, hand soap and body gel dispensers, a floor mat, hand towel and bath towel, luggage storage including a large cabinet with hangers and shelving, a writing desk and chair, a bedside table with a lamp, sufficient lighting in the room, an electronic safe, tourist maps and information in the hallway, and, finally, friendly and helpful staff. I was allowed early check-in. There is a medium-sized supermarket 50 metres from the hotel called Penny, which was very handy. It's a 5 minute walk to the train station. The hotel offers breakfast for a few, but I did not utilize the service.

The surrounding area is a bit seedy (many homeless and presumed drug addicts), however I was never bothered by anyone during my stay.

Overall, a good and very budget friendly stay here!

The hotel itself is okay. No elevator to second floor. Staff is very nice. The area around it is terrible and looks rather dangerous. Bathroom had leaky faucet and there’s a gap on the floor that can rip your toes off.
Too expensive for what it is. I do not recommend.

Dust ans dirt line along the perimeter of the room where the vacuum doesn’t reach..carpets obviously uncleared for months or years. Black mold in the bathroom. Another hotel with creative pictures that have no bearing on reality. What more can one say?

Central hotel with good German breakfast. Staff helpful and pleasant . Rooms basic but clean . Very convenient for main station and town centre. Neighbourhood noisy and some people mind find atmosphere mildly threatening but we had no problems with it.

They have 3 properties, so we were sent to another one in the same street. The place is really bad - ugly, junkies everywhere, really bad impression and not at all child friendly. We had to use long stairs with the luggage - not convenient. Room was clean and people were friendly, but no extra help or support. I would pay a bit more and stay somewhere else. Only advantage is that it is close to the central station, but then choose the other side of the station.

Horrible room in a great location

Definitely the worst hotel room I have EVER stayed in. My stay did have its good points though. The service was very good--staff were friendly and informative. Also, the location is great--very centrally located. Nevertheless, the condition of the room would prompt me to discourage anyone from booking a room here. Yes, it was cheap, but l would rather have payed a bit more for a more comfortable stay. The room was VERY run down--think lamps in two pieces and doorknobs coming off. The shower head came off and started spraying water everywhere when I used it, and the toilet brush was covered in feces. Really though, I'd stay away from this hotel. I didn't feel comfortable staying here.

The picture of the hotel and location where not the same, it was on a Main Street and very sketchy.
After check inn, I had to call reception as the TV was not working.
And there where stains on the sofa bed.
Someone also tried the door handle whist I and my child where in the room
My door panel and key lock had been tampered with, which of the evening I moved the wardrobe in front of the door to feel safe.
The bread at breakfast was stale.

Nice room but situated right by busy noisy street which was full of kebab, betting & sex shops. Room was so hot I had to open window but then couldn't sleep at all because of all the noise all night (1st floor). No lift to first floor so had to carry lots of very heavy luggage all the way up myself. Reception staff could barely speak English, I didn't think their attitude was particularly professional, far too casual for my liking, & when I asked if I could change rooms the guy didn't understand my problem & was no help at all. Worse night of my life, unfortunately, didn't sleep a wink

Disappointing stay

We booked this hotel but when we arrived we were immediately shuttled across the road to their other hotel, the Hotel Lumen which we found to be substandard and not what we had booked. The above ratings are therefore for the Hotel Lumen. The area was dirty with rubbish in the streets. There were numerous casinos and sex shops nearby. The Hotel Lumen has a long access staircase with no lift from the ground. It was therefore difficult for one of us with disability to access this hotel. The room was of adequate size but had no air conditioning and the window opened out to a dirty back area with no security. We should point out that the night of 2 August was one of the hottest in Hamburg this year. For security reasons we were unable to have the window open. Because of the surrounding casinos and nightclubs there was a frequent noise problem. The included breakfast was adequate. The shower drain was blocked therefore water lay in the tray. The toilet was difficult to use because the hand basin was situated in a bad place. This was disappointing in view of the fact that it was one of the most expensive hotels that we stayed in during our trip, and due to a Gay parade being held in the area that night alternative accommodation was scarce .

Fine no thrills stop-over on a lively street with little traffic. Best is that it is just a 3 minute walk from the Central Station. The usual trappings of the town centre station are on offer, and it is not the calmest or culturally elite of neighborhoods.
Perfect for a very short stay.

The hotel and room itself was good, but the hotel is very hard to spot because the entrance is so small and also the service we received from the reception staff was not very good. During our short stay there we did not see a single smile and they were not very helpful or informant.

We booked the Residence but were re-located to the sister hotel Lumen across the street. The lifts stop at intermediate floors so luggage has to be carried up or down stairs. Staff good but rooms very tired. We requested non-smoking room--got one which smelled of cigs, with windowsill full of cigarette ends. Moved rooms--second room better but not good. Area around hotel is full of working girls, pimps, beggars and people sleeping rough. Saw 4 working girls at 08.30 on our way to the station, which is only about 100 yards away. We would not recommend the area or the hotel--it was not cheap!

I was surprised how clean and big and comfortable my room was for the price. The street is not Hamburg's best (ladies of the night hang out at that street) but still safe. It is very close to train station if short stay or if not going be in room a lot. near the shopping area and the restaurant and gay area of hamburg. I would definitely stay again.

Weekend in Hamburg

This hotel is located conveniently near the central railway station and the associated sirens and lights of a busy red light area. All amenities of the town centre are within walking distance.
The rooms are small and clean and the windows sills are home to many cooing pigeons in the early hours.
Breakfast is limited but satisfying . The first flight of stairs that must be negotiated to get to the elevator is a steep one.

Popular with Business Travellers

Hamburg is an expensive place to stay so the Residence Hotel was picked for value for money, as well as for its proximity to the Central Railway Station and the Mitte.

Because it was cheaper, it is not of the same quality as other more expensive hotels. For instance, the elevator only starts on the first floor, so it is necessary to carry luggage up steep stairs to the first floor.
Staff were very obliging and helpful, and helped me with my luggage. The breakfast was excellent as well.
The hotel is fairly shabby with worn carpet and the window in my 4th floor room was broken and would not close.
However, given the price of higher quality places, the Residence was reasonable value for money.

Super clean, very comfortable, location was interesting for night-life and 2 minute walk to underground rail station. The location is not suitable for family. Parking for car is a bit awkward, they do have a parking garage that's a 4 minute walk, cost is an extra 10Euros. The breakfast buffet in the hotel was good.

Apesar de ser próximo a estação de Hamburgo, A rua não nos parece segura. Vimos pessoas com drogas. Na descrição do hotel dizia que tinha acessibilidade (elevador) porém, para ter acesso ao elevador, tem que subir um lance de escada enorme…. Não tinha nenhum funcionário para ajudar. Com mala fica impossível! Só não desistimos do hotel porque chegamos de madrugada.

Leider kann ich dieses Hotel absolut nicht empfehlen. Das Gebäude und insbesondere die Zimmer sind stark in die Jahre gekommen, sehr alt und deutlich abgenutzt. Positiv hervorzuheben ist lediglich, dass das Zimmer sauber war.

Allerdings gab es gravierende Mängel im Badezimmer: Das Abflussrohr unter dem Waschbecken war undicht, wodurch der Badezimmerboden dauerhaft nass war und es sichtbar daraus getropft hat. Zusätzlich herrschte ein muffiger, unangenehmer Geruch. Als wäre das nicht genug, gab es in der Dusche kein warmes Wasser.

Besonders enttäuschend war der Umgang des Personals mit den Beschwerden. Nachdem wir die Mängel angesprochen hatten, hieß es lediglich, es sei „alles in Ordnung“. Das Personal war zwar im Zimmer, behauptete jedoch, nichts riechen zu können und keinen Mangel festzustellen. Obwohl nachweislich andere Zimmer frei waren, wurde nicht einmal versucht, uns ein anderes Zimmer anzubieten oder eine Lösung zu finden.

Für den Zustand des Zimmers ist der Preis absolut nicht gerechtfertigt. Ich würde hier auf keinen Fall wieder buchen und kann das Hotel niemandem empfehlen.

Gefrühstückt habe ich dort nicht, dazu kann ich also nichts sagen. Ich wollte einfach nur noch abreisen.

Insgesamt bin ich sehr enttäuscht, vor allem weil keinerlei Entgegenkommen oderLösungsbereitschaft gezeigt wurde.

Väldigt basic \"hotell\" i ett smutsigt kvarter. Personalen gjorde ingen ansträngning att vara välkomnande. Golven är ojämna med oväntade bucklor och trösklar. Rummet har det som behövs: en säng, ett badrum, en dörr som går att låsa. Duschhuvudet fungerade suboptimalt men vattnet var i alla fall varmt. Rummet var städat, sängkläderna och handduken rena. Inte en gnutta trivsel, värme, stil, inga detaljer som värmer hjärtat. Men man kan ju sova där... (om man klarar av tristessen).

Jag bad (vid bokningen) om ett tyst rum, med så lite oljud utifrån som möjligt. Och det var precis vad jag fick, så jag är nöjd. Emellertid vet jag inte hur de som fick rum som vette mot livliga gatan Steindamm hade det med \"tystheten\", så om tysthet är viktigt - be om ett rum med fönster mot baksidan av Steindamm.

Rummet var lagom storlek för ensamresenär och städningen sköttes perfekt. Också bra att det fanns värdeförvaringsskåp på rummet för endast 5€ för hela vistelsen.

Hiss saknades trots att det står att det ska finnas. Inget jag hade problem med, men andra skulle kanske ha det?

Wir haben zwei Nächte in diesem Hotel in Hamburg verbracht, das bei der Buchung als familienfreundlich und kinderfreundlich beschrieben wurde. Leider entsprach das Umfeld dieser Beschreibung überhaupt nicht. Die Umgebung war sowohl tagsüber als auch nachts sehr unangenehm – besonders am Abend. Viele drogenabhängige Personen hielten sich in der Nähe auf, was ein unsicheres Gefühl vermittelte, vor allem mit Kindern.

Das Zimmer war sehr einfach und bot nur das absolute Minimum. Selbst für den Safe musste man zusätzlich bezahlen und ihn separat freischalten lassen – in einem Hotel, das als familienfreundlich beworben wird, ist das enttäuschend.

Positiv zu erwähnen ist der Mitarbeiter an der Rezeption: Er war freundlich, hilfsbereit und hat sich wirklich Mühe gegeben, was den Gesamteindruck etwas verbessert hat.

Insgesamt kann ich dieses Hotel für Familien mit Kindern leider nicht empfehlen. Die Beschreibung auf der Buchungsplattform ist irreführend und sollte dringend angepasst werden.

Meget utrygt område. Slidt hotel. Lang trappe inden elevatoren. Ledningen til telefonen var klippet over. Vand dryppede ned fra værelset oven over. Ingen vandglas og kun 1 bøjle.

Sehr gut Lage und Zimmer sehr sauber und gute Zustand. Preis Leistung richtig gut. Mit hat Überrascht die Größe des Zimmer was ich bekommen habe obwohl ich ein Einzel Zimmer reserviert haben. Aber ich denke es ist weil ich spät in der Nacht angekommen bin nach ein paar Stunde gebucht zu haben. Würde empfehlen.
