Room size was fine. Clean, comfortable. The design was not the most up to date but was well maintained. There should be an outlet in the bathroom. The staff and service were great. Location was OK. Many restaurants shops around. Supermarket just across the street. Restaurants tend to be the same kind of food though. As a whole, very satisfying. We came early and was able to check in immediately. There were gym and sauna!

Basic stay

The room is clean, not far from the train station. But it is quite basic, maybe too basic for the price. Breakfast is usually expensive in Germany and I think a good breakfast can be found for much less outside the hotel. We were not told at the reception that the room cleaning had to be ordered so we were left without it. The street from the station to the hotel is quite scary so I recommend caution.

Hotel is nice, clean, and located a short walk to a street with many good restaurants and from the Central Station in Hamburg. Also a short walk to a beautiful lake and we enjoyed our evening walks around the lake. Staff are friendly and upgraded us to a nice room with views when we told them we are not happy with the room we were given at the check-in. Breakfasts are really great and offer variety of foods. I highly recommend this hotel.

Disappointing and humiliating

By check in the desk lady announced to us, with a great apology, that the 4.5-star Arcotel Rubin was totally overbooked and hence she'd send us over to 3-star hotel suite. I wouldn't accept her offer which made her respond that by my refusal I was welcome to find another accommodation in town at my own expense.
We had driven 11 hours from Denmark including over a 3-hour traffic jam on highway 7 on account of a horrible accident so I was forced to accept her degrading.
To cut the story short it was not only a rather disappointing but also a humiliating experience for the desk lady offered me no compensation at all.

I had stayed in the Arcotel before and enjoyed their standards but this miserable affair would make me wanna warn my fellow travellers against this hotel.
I hope Hotels.com will follow up on this incident professionally.

every hotels front desk is matter the people who represent the hotel like four star , I can’t say it’s four-star hotel. I stayed in money for star hotels , stag was kindly and you feel you are a guest but in this hotel you have to say please give me a nice room and they look to you like they are giving for free for you. At the bottom or in the shower room where all old towels, this towels even you can see in one star hotel no other cleaning Things like soap ......or other stuff required for. When I asked for it they say we do those things for bigger rooms I don’t know why my room not required to have service things as a four-star hotel has .

Staff were really friendly & spoke English. Hotel was immaculate. Great location - walking distance to train & bus as well as to town - about 25 minute leisurely walk. At end of Street a nice cafe & restaurant strip. I would definitely stay here again.

STAFF STEALS!!!!

The maid STOLE FROM MY ROOM. I left a beer, water, and chocolates from Switzerland in my mini fridge, ALL GONE when I returned to my room. THE MAID STOLE!!! DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!!!

Room was clean bright and cheerful. Scaffolding was covering the outside of the building - didn’t know when booking as was informed at time of booking we were getting a room with a view. Location didn’t feel safe. Room was comfortable and the hotel is still in a good proximity to the station.

Close proximity to the train station.
Water bottle in the room is expensive 4.5 euro and they don't have a small toothpaste even to purchase. Beds are small and not very comfortable. Perhaps this is what one will get in Europe for less than $100 per day.

Well worth a visit!

Great position for Hamburg central station, literally 5 minute walk. Cleanliness, service, the whole atmosphere was great, helpful staff and everything. We upgraded to a Superior room for our 5 nights, and it was well worth the 15 Euro a night, huge corner room, views across 2 sides of the hotel. Loved it, and would definitely be back next year!

I think I know where to stsy next time in Hamburg. Don’t bither whatvthey say about the neighbourhood we never felt u safe and quite a lot of different foods to try around the hotel. Walk about 8-10min and you are at the main train station and the more German part of the city starts! I can confidently recommend.

I was told, they had given me an upgrade to the room without me asking but once I entered the room, it was worse then standard. The cupboard handle was broken and the carpet was very dirty. The customer service at the reception was poor as the gentlemen serving me, was very unprofessional as he was not listening to me. I would never be going to that hotel or the same hotel brand ever again! Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone either.

Hamburg Rubin close to HBF

Hotel was great. We upgraded to a larger room when checking in for 10 euro per day.
Lidl supermarket across the road provides cheap groceries. Enjoyed the food and service at Yummies across the road. The local area is dynamic, full of Turkish cafes and shops.Wife initially felt uncomfortable walking down the road but we had no issues. Easy walking to the Hamburg central train station

We stayed at Rubin before and it was allways ok. This time the check in was
Not professional and took to long.
One day the room was not cleaned up
And when we asked to get at last some fresh towels. We got only one towel. The aircondition should be colder as it was very hot in the room.
The room key card constantly had to be recoded at the front desk we had to go back down to the front desk 4 x during our 3 day stay because the card did not work. Front desk was helpful but not friendly.
We may find an other hotel for our next stay in Hamburg.

Air-conditioned room failed to be cool down enough

It might be a bit of a heatwave in Europe but they should do better when they say it is a climate controlled room ... The room was just way too hot all the time the temperature set to its lowest only resulted in a tiny breeze of luke warm air. Very uncomfortable to sleep in on the hottest nights as opening the window world have let in hot air.

I selected this hotel based on the great reviews I saw from hotel.com. They could not have been more wrong. Upon checking in I already noticed the lobby is nowhere near a 4 Star hotel standard but still wasn’t concerned since the room was my main concern. Upon entering the room I immediately smelled the scent of cigarettes despite requesting a no smoking room. Went back to reception and was told there was nothing they could do, that the room had been cleaned and I would not be getting another one. The room itself was large but unimpressive with furniture that belongs in a college dormitory. One small pillow on a queen sized bed. To top this all off, the hotel is in one of the worst areas of town with drug addicts and garbage everywhere. This is the first review I’ve done because of how terrible it was. I can not believe this hotel is rated so highly.

Nice location within blocks of the Hauptbahnhof.

We ended up switching to this hotel after having signifcant issues with the one we initially booked in Hamburg. The room was clean, the bed was cozy, and there were some useful amenities provided by the hotel. We originally ended up in a room where the A/C wasn't working well (maybe this is just an American problem in the first place?), and they switched us to a new room the next night and allowed us free beverages out of the minibar. The staff was wonderful!

Check in/service needs improvement

Solid hotel, decent value in a bit of a run down area. Room was big and relatively clean and comfortable. Big issue was service/check in. First off, the front desk man tried to charge me again for what I had already prepaid. I had to ask another desk worker to double check that and he said he had and removed the charge. Secondly, I waited until 3pm for guaranteed check in and when I tried to check in, the woman said my room was not available. I pressed her on it and she made calls (took 5 minutes) and then she said it was ready. I then asked for my luggage which I had stored as I git in early and it took 20 minutes for them to get someone to open the door. I had to attend a tour and found myself rushing to get there due to the waste of almost a half hour. The check, despite having 3 people working was long and paperwork based and overall poorly handled. I had to ask confirm an early taxi to the airport 2 times as they write it on a slip of paper and didn’t have it in their computer system. I won’t be staying there again.

Hotel amazing for the price!!! The hotel itself is lovely, clean, modern and sleek. The staff were friendly and professional. Two single beds with two single covers instead of a double was a bit strange but nothing to moan about. The surrounding area was not great, nothing really worth visiting and quite busy (couldn't hear anything from the room) but convenient to get around either walking or a couple of local train stations. Definitely recommend Hotel felt a lot more expensive than it was!

Reasonably good Hotel. 10 minute walk to Central Station , in an Ethnic district with many Turkish shops & cafes. Good cafe, Black Lava, across the road , 50 yrds along , with marvellous Breakfasts at low prices. Shower was problematic & soap dispensers difficult to operate..... no small bottles of Shampoo or Bath gel were supplied. This is a bit disappointing for a \" 4 Star \" Hotel. WARNING :- Some of the Bar prices are ok , but I was charged €18.50 for a Gin & Tonic ! €4 for a small bottle tonic & €14.50 for a Gin. It turned out that there is a Gin menu varying from €6 for Tanqueray to €14.50 for 3 types of premium brands. For some reason the Barman assumed I would want the premium brand !

the Hotel is really very nice and have an excellent service. Our Room was unfortunately locate next to the Lift and so had some rumbling noise but the room was otherwise very nice and really comfortable. The Hotel Service is really good overall.

As part of business trip, you'd like to be worry free back to hotel room. So I was surprised at no shampoo/lotion, wide open shower cell with minimum towels. Because almost everything in room is to be charged with a fee, I had to go out street looking for grocery store to buy bottles of drinking water and shampoo. Every power outlet in room needs adaptor to plug in but the front desk only agrees to lend one for each room. So on so forth...cost saving? Understood. Cheap to guest? Oh yes, it feels like.
