The hotel is in an area where drug addicts shoot needles right in front of the entry and across the street. We were able to see them from our room window. I was noisy and people screamed during the night. Terrible!! The room was relatively new and well-appointed. Comfortable bed. The breakfast was not very good.

It is not like the pictures, staff doesn’t speak English fluently so it’s very difficult to communicate. Hotel is old, you always have to put 10 stairs up from the elevator to the floor where the rooms are located. Those stairs are terrible when you luggage. There is nobody to help you with the bags. It is in bad location and every night people from the street gathers to drink outside of the hotel door.

Welcoming staff but exterior of the hotel need TLC

The staff are friendly, diverse and multicultural. very professional and welcoming staff, enjoyed good conversation as they really seem to love their job, especially Farid. Breakfast did not have any hot option, but there was enough bread, spreads, hot drinks, cereal, yoghurt etc... Luggage storage service is definitely a plus. Only thing is they really really need to ensure that the sex workers and drug addicts and dealers are not all over the entrance as that was very uncomfortable.

Small but clean room, colorful area

Hotel is not brand new - you can feel its age. But room was clean and neat. Maybe just too small for my taste. Service very polite and nice (maybe except one person who seemed bit shy). Other reviews complain about working ladies on the street. I noticed that this whole area is bit \"colorful\" - with various types of people gathering on platz nearby. But it was safe. I spend there 6 days and saw not a single issue like harassment/aggression etc. (which happens in many famous tourists places in best european cities)... For the price I think it's good value...

An ice cold room

When I came to the room the heat was turned off and it was almost as cold as outside. I turned on the heat but the room was ice cold all night. I asked in the reception for some extra heat, but they could not fix that.
In the morning it was warm again, but the evening in this hotel was terrible.

Nothing out of the ordinary just a very basic hotel so nothing to recommend it prostituting in the day time on the street is a discrace I don't understand why the police don't do something about it because they are not doing their job in my opinion.

The hotel itself was ideally placed for travel links for the city centre and the hotel itself was adequete for the price you pay.
However the road is in an unofficial red light district and there are about a dozen prostitutes operating from the front of the hotel they even stand on the steps of the hotel entrance.
There are 4 or 5 local bars in the same street and not advisable to venture into them .
The police turn up on a regular basis but the women just play cat and mouse with them

Day staff helpful, night staff not so helpful. Hotel could do with updating in the corridors, room and breakfast room ok. The worst thing is that the hotel is on a street that has prostitutes, drunks, drug dealers and addicts up and down it day and night. Prostitutes were outside the hotel sat on the hotel steps. Security at hotel reception lapse. Very noisy until about 3am. Glass and other sharp debris littering road and path.

The hotel is ok but is located in an area of town frequented by ladies of the night. Whenever you leave or arrive at the hotel, you are greeted by a dubious guard of honour. Room was very clean. New shower, quite powerful. Breakfast reasonable.

NOT what I expected.

Depending on your stride its a 3-5min walk to the central station or simply call a taxi using the vmy taxi/free now app.

Would not stay here again-definitely not. The towel in the bathroom looked like they had been there for a while, had a large dark dirt mark where it rested on the rail. The shower was very restricting and I'm merely 5'7, and to make it worst the shower curtain wanting to caress me. The curtains had stains as well and the room dusty.

Outside was rather noisy and through your window if you're \"lucky\" to get a street view you'll definitely see a lot happening.....prostitutes on the prowl, drug deals and usage. Also could hear heavy breathing and giggles in the hallway.

They lift doesn't take you directly to your floor, you still have to climb a flight of stairs, then open a door and there were no lights except for the very dim one over my door. The only light on the floor.

There's a strange 'leave your room key behind' policy that made me quite uncomfortable, and when I asked was told its because its the only copy--YET, I slept in late and guess who had a key attempting to come in? Housekeeping. Now how would that be possible if I had the only key..... Maybe I was so uncomfortable with that because of the persons i saw as I stepped outside, knowing the keys were just hanging on a wall.

The hotel is placed in a very unpleasant neighbourhood. The rooms are much smaller than advertised on the photos. The bathroom is extremely small and had hair in the sink when we arrived. The table in our room was so frail that we were concerned to put anything on it. Due to the neighbourhood and some red light business going on on the street infront of the hotel, the night can be very noisy. All at all a very unpleasant experience!

Interesting but safe area close to the station.

The hotel. Is in easy walking distance from the main railroad station. The area has prostutes standing in doorways but is not part of but near Hamburg's famous redlight district. There are many Indian restaurants in the area. The area is dirty but I felt very safe

Fun stay and wonderful staff

Signature Hotel Astoria in Hamburg is a budget friendly and comfortable hotel to stay. The staff are wonderful, kind and helpful specially Ramin in front desk and Mohammad in restaurant. Mohammad helped me to download the website of Hamburg Metro Transit System in my smart phone which was a big help for me to figure out how to use the roads, S bahn, U bahn and other features of this helpful site for the travelers, specially for those who came for the first time to Hamburg. For an American MALE tourist, city of Hamburg and specially this hotel's neibourhood has special advantures that could not be found in US cities. So based on the money you spend and the joy you get from your stay, it's fun.

Clean and no frills but rundown

The only benefit to this hotel is its proximity to the Hauptbahnhof (about 0.3 mile). However, it's not a particularly nice neighbourhood, so unless you are coming in from a late train or need to catch an early train, I'd stay elsewhere. It's very basic, and a bit run-down. The staff aren't particularly friendly or helpful (and were usually outside smoking with people hanging about outside whenever we returned to the hotel). One of the reasons I booked this property was the free breakfast, but it was inedible. I asked in the booking and on two mornings for soya or other plant-based milk, but they only had dairy. The only fruit was from giant tins and had a taste of urine and dirt. I brought my own peanut butter to put on a roll and had to add a pile of sugar to make the coffee drinkable. Would be better to not bother, but I did not see any nearby cafes to eat breakfast at, other than getting something from the station. The room was clean, but quite small, and everything felt a bit shabby. The shower is tiny. Security did not feel great, with windows without very good locks straight onto a ground floor garden. Overpriced for the location and lack of quality.

When I checked in, they gave me keys to a single room because I was alone, even though I had booked a double room. Had to go back to reception to get a different room allocated. No phone in the room. Bathroom was fine. Breakfast was disappointing. Only white bread, a toaster, scrambled eggs (buffet style), bread rolls, butter, jam, cream cheese, cheese, cold meats and fruit from a tin 😷 Poor value for the cost.

Good fit for a single person on a budget.

The hotel itself isn't bad, the internet works just fine, the room is clean (albeit tiny) and the service is generally satisfactory. No complaints about the staff or the breakfast either. Basically, when I look at the price I paid and what I got for it, everything seems totally fair, especially considering this hotel is in an important city in a developed country.

Now, there is nothing wrong with the inside, but I can't say the same for the outside. The surrounding area is downright horrid. Across the street is a Kurdish Islamic Centre, which appears to be frequented by shady characters. The street is full of prostitutes who are clearly on drugs, and the general area is full of the type of undesirable folk that you'd expect to encounter in the back streets of NYC. All those people appear to be minding their own business for the most part though, and I didn't feel my safety was compromised at any point. That said, the street workers do pick on single men and attempt to initiate a conversation in hopes of doing some business, but they give up easily upon display of disinterest. If you get squeamish at the sight of undesirable characters and people with shattered lives, this hotel might not be your cup of tea. But don't forget it's also *very* close to the central stations (train and bus alike, as they are within a stone's throw of one another), and late night eateries of all sorts abound.

All in all, I'd recommend this hotel to anyone on a budget.

Convenient for Hauptbahnhof and St. Georg area

The room was very clean, but also very small, especially the bathroom. It was almost impossible to even use the toilet. But the shower was the strongest I have ever seen in my life. Good breakfast, but only tables for 4 people, so be prepared to socialize first thing in the morning.

Everyone I interacted with at the front desk was helpful and friendly.

The location is great for St. Georg, but be aware that this is a neighborhood with some “seedy” aspects that some people may feel uncomfortable with.

Surprise in Hamburg

After reading previous reviews on this hotel I was not really expecting much. When I got there I was greeted by a friendly Desk Clerk and checking in real early he had the cleaning staff get my room ready first. I got a great room on the 2nd floor on the back side of the hotel, although the view was not great you heard no noise from the city at all. The breakfast every morning was very good and all of the products were quality. I would keep this hotel in mind for future trips to Hamburg based on value, service and location.

Hamburg was inaccessible

A tropical storm took out all rail service from the south and rental cars were unavailable. We were unable to go to Hamburg. Three calls were necessary to receive a partial refund. We will not make any more reservations through Expedia.

Cozy stay in sketchy neighborhood

I was stuck at the Hamburg train station for 24 hours due to a storm. This hotel is within walking distance however you have to pass through a sketchy neighborhood full of loitering people up to only God knows. The hotel is old and the scariest thing was the elevator, but it did work. My room was tiny, but sufficient and comfortable and I was able to rest for the night. The bathroom was newly renovated and sparkling clean.

They sent me to a different hotel

I arrived late to the Hotel Astoria due to incredible bad directions from a tourist agent at the Hamburg airport. I wasn't aware that streets change names within two blocks (e.g., from Brenner Riehle to Brennerstraße... They send me to Hotel Eleazar around the corner. Although, the place was clean and conveniently located close to the DB train station, I couldn't sleep -on a Tuesday night- because of the screaming, glass bottle bashing and whatever else loud noises around a very busy street, heavily populated by prostitutes -who did not bother me once, I must say! But, beware of this cheap venture that is not apt for the faint hearthed.

Weekend Break

The room was big, huge super king-size bed, room, and the bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was basic not much to choose from.
The staff was very nice and very helpful and I liked the outdoor garden plus point for the smokers.
The only downside was the street location, sometimes you can feel uncomfortable other than that it's very safe to walk during the night.

Staff were very friendly and helped me check in and out easily in English. The area around the hotel is not very nice, but i felt safe in the hotel and it is a very short 5 minute walk to the main train station. They also provided free breakfast which was great. The room was in good condition, with a large bathroom and comfortable bed, except one of the small tables wasn't very stable.

We read previous reviews and looked at the photos - very different in reality. Probably ok for youngsters in a hostel style, and very close to the station. Unfortunately, they don't mention this side street is full of prostitutes day and night and in the centre of the Turkish community. Unlike the rest of Hamburg, the immediate surroundings are dirty and scruffy, with the nearby square full of what appear to be migrants lolling around, drinking and smoking. All this is a little intimidating. Perhaps the reason we were not made aware of all this is because truthful feedback has not been posted by Expedia - I hope this is not the case. On the plus side, the staff at the hotel are very professional and the rooms are clean, with fresh towels daily and a good selection at breakfast.

The rooms are as big as hallway, no air conditioning. The riffraff that hangs out on the sidewalk around the door is low class prostitutes. The smell of the urinal hit me as a walked out one morning. This place charges the fee of a nice hotel, but doesn't provide the quality.

You get what you pay for

Absolutely no issues at all with the hotel, clean, fresh towels each day, brilliant service, good breakfast. Only negative for the hotel is the area, but it is a 5 minute walk from central station so can be used as a Base for going off and doing other things around the city. The area is fine throughout the day but becomes a bit of a place to avoid late at night if you're on your own. There was 4 of us at all times and we experienced it through the day and late at night and received no hassle at any point, but I could see it intimidating some people.

Clean, room recently modernised. Nice staff, nice breakfast.

The area: no getting away from it, the area isn't the best. However, I never felt threatened or nervous even late at night. Was offered a few 'services' from local ladies but polite refusals were all that were required.

Might be easier for a bloke of six feet-ish than for a female on her own, maybe.

Handy for transport links, all essentials covered

I'd already booked for 6 nights but needed an additional night. The staff dealt with this efficiently, saving me the hassle of checking out & back in again a few hours later. I don't go on holiday to stay in a hotel so perhaps I'm less picky than others but this hotel had polite staff who knew what they were doing, my room was clean, bed comfy, en-suite shower room functioned properly & I was able to connect to wifi throughout the building. The buffet breakfast ensured I started each day with a hearty meal.
There are ladies in the area looking for short-term friendship (they stay away from the Astoria's entrance as they know that the management doesn't allow them on the premises) but unless you accidentally give them money and fail to remain clothed, you'll be able to stay \"unloved\".

Superb value for money.

The hotel had everything I needed. The staff were polite & efficient, there were no cleanliness issues, my room was comfortable & the breakfast set me up well for each day.
The hotel is close to a U-Bahn station, bus routes (including night service) and less than a 10 minute walk from the central station. There are some \"ladies of the night\" in the area but they know not to approach the doorway of the hotel as the staff so won't allow them in. They may say hello but they won't pester anyone who doesn't want to transact business with them.

Good choice for the budget traveller

The hotel is in a good location, near the central station and a short walk to shopping and tourist areas. The area around the hotel can seem a bit daunting with many prostitutes hanging around the street but they don't bother you. There are a few places to eat nearby and at least two grocery stores.

The staff are very helpful and friendly and most speak good English. My room was small but adequate and I could tell it had been recently modernised. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was tiny but adequate. My only complaint was that the room had a slight odour (a kind of mustiness) but it wasn't overbearing and because the room itself was extremely clean I ignored it.

The breakfast was good and had a nice variety. The wifi was good (good speed and no dropping).

Overall I would recommend this place to any budget traveller.

This hotel is in the red light district. The hotel itself is clean, has nice staff and breakfast was good. But I did not feel safe on the street outside. When I left the hotel at 5pm I was approached by 3 different people offering their services, and on the way back to the hotel at 1am I was literally followed down the street. This is absolutely not suitable for children and I feel bad for saying it because the hotel itself was perfectly fine except the internet was not working during my stay.

I booked this hotel due to the low price. It was a festival weekend and everything was booked or the prices were raised ridiculously high. It's a no-frills hotel so don't expect much. My room didn't have a garbage can or a mini fridge. I wouldn't recommend it for families because the neighborhood is kind of shady (\"ladies of the evening\" are close by).

Vi er normalt ret large med vores hotel ophold, men det her var ikke hvad vi havde set frem til. Vi endte med at tjekke ud ca 12 timer efter vi havde tjekket ind (vi havde booket 2 overnatninger) Gaden hotellet ligger på, var super ubehagelig. Der boede en hjemløs lige ved døren, hvor vi var ved at falde over hans sko. Der var flere påvirkede mennesker (endda nogle der stod og fixede lige ved siden af på åben gade) - vi blev forfulgt hen til døren og kaldt på af nogen af disse personer, som gjorde det virkelig ubehageligt.
På selve værelset, var det tydeligt at det var slidt (hvilket er fair) - men der var skimmelsvamp i badet og toilettet skyllede ikke ordentlig ud medmindre man trykkede 2-3 gange.
Der står at det er lydisolerede værelser, hvilket ikke passer. Vi kunne tydeligt høre dem på de andre værelser, både snakken, snorken, toiletbesøg og da de gik i bad.
Om natten fik jeg slet ikke sovet på grund af alt den rumsteren + de førnævnte personer på gaden råbte og skreg ude foran meget af natten. Personalet burde måske gå ud og bede dem dæmpe sig?
Vi var meget i tvivl om vi skulle blive på hotellet selvom vi følte os super utrygge, men endte med at køre hjem. :-(

Værelset var forsømt. Meget slidt. Hele værelset lugtede af kloak. Badeværelset var helt tosset og det var her lugten kom fra. Meget lydt udefra gangen. Knappen på toilettet faldt hele tiden af.

Der er kun få private parkeringspladser som allerede var optaget da vi tjekkede ind.
Værelserne er ikke lydisoleret som påskrevet så man kan høre naboerne meget tydeligt.
Der er ikke dagligt rengøring som påskrevet men det sker hver anden dag - dog uden at der bliver støvsuget men fik rent sengelinned og håndklæder
Morgenmaden var okay.
Hotellet ligger ved siden af en “varmestue” men det generede os ikke. Der er mange gode restauranter, grønthandlere og barer i området.
Ingen støj om natten selv om vi sov med åbent vindue.

Für eine Übernachtung okay. Sehr hellhörig.
Das Frühstück ist absolut ausreichend.
Vor 25 Jahren habe ich in St. Georg gewohnt, der Zustand dieses Stadtteils hat sich sehr verschlechtert. Das Hotel muss hoffentlich nicht darunter leiden. Dafür liegt es sehr zentral um vom Hbf alle Ziele zu erreichen.

Virkelig dårligt hotel - der var falsk billede af receptionen og værelset var bestemt ikke som forventet. Revner i væggen, smuds’ på paneler og lign. Og så en udsigt til en ødelagt gård.
