Its an old building so the walls are extremely thin. Its in a noisy part of town so opening the windows wasn't really an option and the heat seemed to be overactive. It was fine for a one night stopover in walking distance to the train, but I would not stay here again or for more than one night. It was elegant however.

Lovely boutique hotel. We had a very spacious room for myself and my 2 teenage daughters. The room was beautifully decorated as was the little loungeroom that could be used by any of the guests. Easy walk to the main train station and main centre of the city. We had a wonderful stay.

Hotel selection made on account of relative closeness to Hbf.
It's a standard hotel of its type. Don't let the area bother you, it's of no consequence and as an elderly male I had no problems.
Checkin was a breeze. My room was comfortable and of a reasonable size, as was the bathroom and all the other facilities. I liked the large chandelier in the room!
I didn't breakfast there so can't comment.
The major adverse point is the lack of a lift. People with a mobility issue should not consider this place. Otherwise I was fine with it. 3 stars instead of 4 though.

Smashing little hotel

We loved our stay at the Hotel City House. The weather was very hot when we were there so we chose to sleep with the windows open, which meant we were disturbed by residents in the adjacent rooms and people in the dining room outdoor exit talking in the late evening and early hours.

Great hotel in city centre location

From the pictures, it looks like a small town house hotel, but in reality it is a much larger hotel that manages to maintain an intimate feeling. Friendly and helpful staff, and immaculately clean. Had a single room, which had a queen sized bed in - the room was fairly small but very well appointed. Unusually reasonable mini-bar prices. The location is right in the heart of the St Georg nightlife area. Although the area had a slightly edgy feel to it which might not be to everyone's taste, it felt reasonably safe even late at night. The hotel is tucked away in a side street and was reasonably quiet.

Comfortable Hotel without any Lifts.

Overall a good hotel, right in the centre of Hamburg City. Breakfast was a bit of a let down. For a 4-Star hotel was expecting more items to chose from at Breakfast. Also would expect a lift in a 4-star hotel.

Good, tidy hotel with spacious room (at least in the category Comfort, which I took). Quite central and only 5 mins by foot to the main station. Very central and not as busy as St Pauli for example. The area is not the prettiest at night, but taxis are not expensive. Quite a few restaurants around Hansaplatz 1 minute walk away.

This is a great hotel, warm, comfortable, great staff and good decor, big rooms great mini bar and generally a fabulous place. The only down side is it's situation which to be honest makes you feel a little uncomfortable when walking through the high street, lots of looks and stares, like you might be accosted at some point. Best to turn left out of the hotel and walk along the main road, once at the u and s bahn stations the city is your oyster. If you want the shops it's just one stop so pay for a singly trip.

Ok, but not a 4-star hotel

It's very conveniently located 5 mins walk from main train station.
There is NO ELEVATOR, we had to take our luggage ourselves up 4 floors. It's clean and staff is friendly, but definitely not a 4-star hotel as rated on the site.

There were three of us traveling and the room was great!!! The hotel location is really close to the train station - but the area was a little questionable. We walked one block in the opposite direction and it was a completely different vibe.

Nice hotel close to transportation

An older hotel, in walking distance from the HH-Hauptbahnhof, was tastefully decorated, rooms very clean and comfortable, the staff was very friendly, accommodating and helpful. A convenient and nice breakfast buffet is available.

Overall a very good experience.

Over-furnished but comfortable, dodgy area

Although the area didn't feel unsafe, it just wasn't very pleasant to walk through every day - a red light area plus lots of mobile phone/phone abroad shops, with big groups of men just hanging around on street corners. I don't usually get bothered about that kind of thing, but it deterred me from going to and from the hotel more than once a day. It is however only ten minutes from the main station so it's good for transport.

That said, it's a very friendly & comfortable small hotel, and the rooms are very well-equipped. It's a bit over-furnished, which made the room feel stuffy in the warmish weather.

There's no lift.

Breakfast is served in a very stuffy downstairs room that felt cramped, and I had to share a table. That felt incredibly uncomfortable as a lone traveller. The buffet wasn't worth 11€ I felt, so my second day I got breakfast elsewhere.

So a decent little hotel but it wasn't the right choice for me.

A good value in a very expensive city. Comfortable bed, warm welcoming room, clean bathroom and large shower, tasty varied breakfast and kind helpful staff. The only tiny drawback was the neighborhood which, though convenient to the train station and other sites, was itself a bit uninteresting.

Good location to reach central hamburg easily

The hotel itself was spotlessly clean. Not in the best of areas but close to the train station and only one stop from hambush central so wasn't really a problem. The beds were uncomfortable as they were 2 narrow single mattresses pushed together to make a double and these would seperate on movement and cause them to become increasingly uncomfortable, but looking at other hotel photos, this set up seems to be the norm.

Excellent value characterful Hotel

When we booked the Hotel City House, we thought that we'd probably made a good choice, however the Hotel far exceeded all our expectations. Our friends and ourselves had lower ground floor rooms, which might not have appealed to everyone, but the rooms were enormous and extremely comfortable. We liked the little touches - honesty bar in the Lounge, computer and free internet access and printer, softer than soft bed linen, feather pillows, almost cost price mini bar - we could go on. The whole ambience of the Hotel was charming, elegant and welcoming - and all in a very convenient location.

Hamburg Hotel

Solid small business hotel 5-10 minutes walk from the train station. Nice room, good shower, good internet. Breakfast not included (at least for me) but worth what I paid, with a broad selection of hot and cold items. No elevator if you have mobility issues or heavy luggage. Helpful friendly staff. To walk to the hotel, have to go through parts of what is obviously a small red light district (common near train stations in Europe) but never felt not safe, even later in the evening.

Lovely restored boutique hotel

We loved the hotel although the weather was very hot and there was no air conditioning . The staff was kind enough to provide us with a fan to deal with the heat in the room. I would advise requesting a room at the back of the hotel as there was construction starting very early in the mornings making it very difficult to sleep. The breakfast was excellent, well worth the added cost. We walked to all the sites in the city and found some interesting restaurants in close proximity to the hotel.

An exceptionally good hotel with unbeatable price/value ratio. Rooms are tastefully decorated with very comfortable beds. Modern, nice bathrooms. Free wifi, minibar in room and fantastic breakfast. We came from an overnight flight, and the hotel was kind enough to let us check in early. Will be back.

Very efficient friendly check-in. Nicely laid out room with large shower. Heater was turned up and couldn't be controlled - but found by opening the window the balance was good. Big desk, good cupboards, decent TV. Nicely refurbished. Internet for free through LAN1.

I'm a regular traveller to Hamburg and this place is recommended as quite a well priced property - actually, probably a very well priced cosy place - some of the equivalent places at a similar price lack character - this place has plenty of character but is fully refurbished.

Stay there, good idea :)

Best small hotel ever!

Really nice small hotel, with very helpful and friendly staff. The City House hotel is located in a small side-street 5-10 minutes walk from the central station and bus station. The hotel was very welcoming, the lounge area is small, but it isn't a large hotel. The breakfast area is very nice and light. The food was excellent - a good selection of good quality, meats cheeses, salmon, breads, eggs, bacon etc. The breakfast area gets busy and the staff work hard to get you sat and eating quickly if you do have to wait. Once sat then breakfast is unrushed and realaxed. The honesty bar and mini-bar prices are very reasonable - 1.5 Euros for a beer, 2 euros for \"a finger\" of whisky (\"Please don't use your thumb\")

This isn't the most modern of hotels, it is part of a chain, but feels more like a family hotel. I couldn't fault anything to do with this hotel.

The area of Hamburg where it is situated isn't the greatest. During the day it is fine, it has an ethnic influence and there are some nice cafes/restaurants, it feels safe to walk around. At night time the atmosphere changes a little as some of the bars and the sex shop gain a few sex workers, it still feels fairly safe to walk around, but you may not want to stop or linger.

Great hotel in a slight strange area

I recommend this hotel highly and we'd definitely come back. The hotel was faultless, great large rooms, very comfortable, friendly staff and the library bar is perfect for a pre dinner drink. The area however is a bit rubbish with a few \"dodgy\" shops on the main road, but saying that, just a 5 minute walk and you've got loads of nice cafes, restaurants and bars. That Hamburg in a nutshell really.

Lovely hotel, felt exactly like a city house.

Me and my girlfriend stayed at this hotel for a long weekend at the beginning of December 2012. We both read a couple of reviews beforehand and were worried about the area. From the central station you have about 4 mins before you get to the hotel. Its located in the turkish district so you basically walk through a street full of kebab shops, sex shops and internet cafe before you reach the quiet street that the hotel resides on. The hotel is in my opinion gorgeous, it is only small but is very querky and classy. Being a young couple we felt a little out of place but not uncomfortable. We even sat and had a drink in the sitting room. Breakfast was great but maybe a little pricey at 11euro per person. Overall very clean, well maintained hotel. This hotel will make you smile all the way through.

Super noisy, could not sleep. The entrance door should be fixed, otherwise everybody slams it from 5am until 2am. I would never stay in this hotel again.

My adult sons & I came from England to see HSV -football match. Hotel City House was great value,close to transport hub (Hauptbahnhof) & the location is quiet. . Ok it's located amongst the turkish community & you may have to walk through an active red light area but don't bother them & they wont bother you.Hotel was comfortable, clean & friendly & reminded us of Edwardian England-though we didn't eat breakfast there-seemed expensive. Supermarkets -Lidl, & shops only minutes walk away. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel & Hamburg is a great city! We're going back there next year.

Although the location of the hotel isn't the nicest, I have to say that this is one of the most charming hotels I have visited. The old-style decor, without looking dated or run-down works very nicely.

I think the staff finish at 10pm, but they have obviously come to an arrangement with the nearby Best Western hotel, as after this time, you can go there for help.

Full of character - Convenient for station

Hotel full of character although area seedy (but interesting) Beautiful room and bathroom. Comfortable bed and pillows. Lovely breakfast room and good choice for breakfast (although one morning no white bread for toast).Nice lounge with free coffee and tea. Free internet access. Friendly staff. No staff on premises overnight - monitored by staff at Best Western next door. Would definitely stay again.

lovely central hotel

The hotel was excellent very clean lovely comfy bed and pillows we had a very pleasent stay.
We had breakfast each morning which was extra 11 euros but we felt this was good value as there was a good selection and very well presented we couldnt believe how many people were at breakfast we had not heard a thing all night it must be the quietest hotel we have been in . The hotel is in a very convenient position for the station and was perfect for us.
The only down side is the road which the hotel on is very rough with empty property and not very nice people hanging around but we were never bothered by anyone and this would not put me off going back because the hotel was so good

Convenient for main station

The hotel was great. The staff were exceptional and very accommodating. Having free internet and free baggage storage was briliant, and better than some other hotels we've stayed in. We were lucky to have a lovely suite, but unfortunately the construction site next door woke us up early. And, there's no lift/elevator so heavy bags have to be carried up the stairs. The nearby streets are a bit dodgy, the best route from the station is via the main road, to avoid passing s.x shops and casinos. The location was brilliant for city sights and especially the station, and some great restaurants nearby. Pity we didn't have more than two days to spare, but hopefully we'll have a reason to make a return visit before too long...

The hotel was not really a 4-star facility in my opinion. The room was nice, but the adjoining bathroom so small one could not turn around and quite a bit worn down as well. The neighbourhood was not to my liking, though admittedly it was at walking distance from the Mö.

The hotel was perfectly adiquate, clean and the staff were helpful the location was convenient for the centre of Hamburg and the main trainstation. However, the street leading up to the hotel was a little intimerdating with a number of prostitues which made the experience a little unconfortable.

Hotel City House - Convenience, Cost and Quality

Stayed here for 10 days/9 nights. Excellent location, close to train station, but far enough from station and on a side street to be fairly quiet and in a decent part of town (though you will walk by sex shops on your way to the hotel). Room was large (large enough for 2, but I was solo), bed was large (like an American king, though built from 2 doubles, which is standard in Germany) and comfy, large closet for all of your clothes and more, nicely renovated bathroom. Well maintained hotel. Clean rooms and lobby. Wireless internet with easy and reliable access (ask the staff for the password). Bright and airy. Nice and helpful staff. I did not opt for the breakfast, which is an additional charge, so I can't comment on that; but the dining room looked nice. Rooms do not have air conditioning, but I was there during cool weather and was comfortable--most rooms have very large windows to let in a breeze, and I'm used to this in Europe. And noise level with windows open was okay. Hotel does not have an elevator, so be prepared to walk your bags up the stairs; I was only on the second floor. Cleaning staff forgot to leave me a clean towel on the night of my last stay, but other than that everything about my stay was enjoyable. Again, close to central train station (about 5-10 minute walk), with easy access to trains, U-Bahn and S-Bahn. On the edge of St. Georg district, so there are plenty of restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. Very reasonably priced, and I did quite a bit of research on other options. Room has a safe if you need to lock things up. Mini fridge too, though it is mostly stocked as a mini-bar. Staff speaks German and English and were always helpful. This is a very nice and reasonably priced hotel, and has quite a bit of old-world charm and character, but is very well maintained and clean. It feels new, though it is not a modern building. And it's a fairly small hotel (a rather low number of rooms), so it was always quiet and intimate--unlike a larger chain hotel. Perfect for a short or long stay. I always felt good heading back to this place at night after being about the city.

Old, dirty hotel centrally located.

Like travelling back in time. Everything is from the 80's. Air conditioning is a joke, it only circulated warm air.

Beds are unconfortable and bedclothes are discusting (yellow wool blankets). Dirty, old and smelly place.

Location in great and staff is OK.

Don't book this unless absolutely necessary.

Hotel City House - Hamburg - a great find!

Picked at random, this turned out to be a gem of a hotel, easily located less than 5 minutes from the ZOB (Bus Station) and Hauptbahnhof (Train Station) and less than 10 minutes from the centre of town. A lovely individual feel to the hotel, nice lounge, unusual for them to provide a laptop for you to use with the free wireless. The room was fantastic, really large, great beds and comfy pillows! Lovely bathroom and a whole kitchen to house the mini bar too! Friendly staff spoke excellent English and provided tourist information, and bag storage on the last day. Didn't sample breakfast, but overall definitely recommend this hotel (cleanliness was only downside - a little bit dusty and a few hairs in the bathroom(!) but this did not detract from our stay) - very quiet and no issues with the St Georg area! A fine hotel!

Cannot Recommend this Hotel

I can't in good conscience recommend this hotel. The reviews I read on different web sites were very good, but my experience was anything but. The hotel is expensive for what you get. My room was tiny, cramped and very outdated. The handset on the phone in my room became unattached the second I picked it up. The free wireless is a joke. It barely works. It kept coming in and out. The biggest plus is the location, being fairly central and near the main train station. The breakfast is expensive and nothing to write home about. I would not stay here again.

i got a very good deal at this hotel through expedia and wasnt really expecting too much apart from a clean room which is normal in germany even at basic hotels. when i got to my room which was no24, a twin for single use, i was very impressed!. it was bright (very!) but great blackout curtains, very clean, a super modern shower room, a mini-fridge which was great as theres a great supermarket at end of street!. the only problem is the free wireless didnt work as high as the 2nd floor, but i took my laptop down to the lobby where theres a desk i used and it was just fine. the hotel is 5 mins walk from main train station, so no need for taxis and its so easy to walk everywhere. the steer the hotel is in is ok but theres a lot of sex shops around the surrounding streets, so not sure if suitable for kids/families but there was never any probs/unwelcome people. i loved the hotel and wud definitely stay there again without hesitation.

Otelin konumu merkezi ancak aynı zamanda ‘Ghetto’ya da yakın. Türklerin kaldığı yerleşim yerlerine de çok yakın olduğundan Türk marketleri vs var. Konum pek iç açıcı değildi genel olarak. Otelin kendisi temizdi, her gün temizlik yapılıyordu. Bunun dışında resepsiyondaki kişiler süper arkadaş canlısı değillerdi ama kendilerince yardımcı olmaya çalıştılar.

Som altid, dejligt ophold på Hotel city House. Hotellet er hyggeligt, ligger meget centralt, parkering i gården og så er vi begejstrede for deres “pejsestue” med mulighed for kaffe og avec. Vi kommer igen.

Trés agréablement surpris par notre séjourdans cet hôtel. Hôtel trés propre. Belle chambre et salle de bain spacieuse refaite à neuve. Personnel sympathique et souriant. Petit déjeuner parfait pour un prix trés peu élevé. Emplacement idéal.

What a place!

Cosy and nice little hotel with astonishing decoration and large perfect comfort rooms. There is a fireplace living room as in an old british castle - go see it! Really good breakfast served in a room like 100 years ago, just amazing. The hotel is only 5 min walk from Central Train Station

Vi fik et meget lille værelse i stueetagen, der havde vinduer ud til en baggård med meget larm om morgenen, blandt andet skraldebiler og arbejdsfolk. De kunne næsten kigge ind på vores værelse. Vi blev nødt til at sove med vinduerne åbne i løbet af natten, fordi der var så varmt (34 grader) og der var ingen aircondition på værelset. Sengen var meget hård. Personalet var imødekommende, men vi fik ikke nogen information om byen eller anbefalesværdige steder eller restauranter i nærheden, selvom vi spurgte. Beliggenheden er okay og tæt på banegården, men rundt om hjørnet er en gade, hvor politiet patruljerer rundt jævnligt, så ikke så hyggeligt.

Das Hotel ist super zentral, fussläufig vom Hbf. zu erreichen, aber trotzdem sehr ruhig, da in einer kleinen Seitenstraße gelegen. Urgemütlich mit hohem Wohlfühlfaktor. Sehr freundliche Mitarbeiter. Leckeres Frühstücksbuffet in sehr schöner Atmosphäre! Wir waren hoch zufrieden und würden jederzeit wieder hierher kommen!
