My room ran out of toilet paper. Bed linens are provided, but you have to make your own bed. Electrical outlet on my bed is broken. The bar is not staffed. It took 10 minutes for an employee to notice me standing in view of them the entire time.

Surprisingly, nice Hostel and quite large. The toilet and shower are in the room as opposed to down the hall. Nice that it is shared with less people, but also adds noise to the room. The room is VERY hot and stuffy and can barely open the window to get fresh air. My mattress has springs poking my body. Hostel has a guest kitchen and towels are provided, even though Expedia does not have them listed as an amenity. So that was a nice surprise. Easy to lose your way in the many hallways. Quiet hours are not enforced.

Do not stay at this hotel! The hotel is in a very shady part of town, with intoxicated men just hanging in and around the hotel. There were no sheets or pillow cases on the bed and the mattress was filthy! The pillow and throw were covered in blood and sweat and there were unknown substances running down the wall. I tried to call the customer service but the phone was answered by a rude man demanding my name and room number, which was so odd! We had no choice to but check out within a hour of checkin in. My children were too scared to sleep in such conditions. Do not stay here!!!

I booked a stay at a&o Hamburg City through Expedia, but my experience was beyond disappointing. From the moment I arrived, multiple issues made it impossible to stay:

Hidden Charges: I was forced to pay €10 for clean towels and bedding, which should be standard and was not disclosed during booking.

Overbooked & No Bed Available: My assigned room was packed, leaving me without a place to sleep.

Filthy Alternative Room: The replacement room was dirty and clearly uninhabitable.

No Help from Staff: When I requested a single room, they refused, blaming Expedia for the booking restrictions.

Ultimately, I had to cancel my stay entirely because the hostel failed to provide even basic accommodations. Avoid this place if you expect cleanliness, honesty, or decent service.

To Expedia: I expect a full refund for this booking, as the property misrepresented its services.

Check in wasn’t good at all. Everyone was encourage to use the self service terminals however I never actually saw anyone successfully check in this way. Took a long time to get a room, went up to it and it hadn’t been cleaned. Went back to reception, given another room, same problem. On the third attempt I actually got a clean/ready one. Positives - cheap, 20 min walk from station - though if you're leaving during the night, be aware make a wrong turn and you'll walk through the red light district where gangs of males loiter!!

Negatives - NOT a backpacker hostel, be warned, just a hostel - shouldn't really be on travel sites. No secure place to store your stuff - at least not large enough for backpack/suitcase. People running around the building in the middle of the night.

I'd pre-booked a mix dorm having used these in Poland, Austria etc (diff company) - got to the dorm a middle aged man, got up from his bunk and started yelling at me NO WOMEN!! til I left the room (cos you know we plant eggs in men's brains whilst they sleep!!) the next room I was put in - a female dorm for 6, had one occupant only (even though this very website said all female dorms were booked) she'd been there for a while cos all her stuff was everywhere and it was like sleeping on a mate's couch. 12 floors with 2 dodgy lifts - I gave up and went back to the station at 3am, felt safer (hence finding out about the red light district!. You'll see ads in Germany trying to promote this chain as somewhere to stay - DO NOT USE!!

It’s a very average hostel…beds are uncomfortable, it could be cleaner.
My door to the bathroom was chipped and marks all over the walls.
Very dusty, random hairs on my towels.
The whole area around Berliner tor and the hostel is a bit dingy, lots of homeless lying in the street all day. Doesn’t feel safe.

I stayed on other a&o hostels without any problem. At a&o Hamburg city I faced a big issue. They have designed a double bed with 2 twins mattresses. It's terrible to sleep with a stranger in a distance less than 20cm. It's unacceptable to have this kind of bed because it violates privacy,hygiene and personal space. Everyone in a dormitory should have its own bed. Not sleeping in a double bed with a stranger.

It's okay

I don't personally stay in many hotels, however for the money paid, this was okay at best.

Noise Insulation isn't great, you can hear what is happening outside of your room rather easily and it did disturb us a few times.

Bed Comfort wasn't fantastic, the mattresses are simple foam with a blue sheet over them, which you stick to if the weather is mildly warm. The actual pillow and blanket was rather disappointing. I did sustain some neck pain due to the very loose pillows. Normal beds that weren't bunks, were better. Same mattress, however, which especially did not help the heat that just swept over Hamburg that week.

For washing facilities, they're okay, however the shower felt rather unclean with a large amount of brown stains on the wall. The cubicle was also very cramped with very little room. Room Service did come by each day and provide new towels however, which was nice.

The room was adequately equipped with a table, chairs, and a TV, which comes in useful should you have something to plug in and watch, however with the room having capacity for 6 people, we were only provided 2 towels initially, and had to retrieve more from the reception desk. Windows only hinge open slightly, which can be a pain if you want a breeze to come through.

All in all, it's okay if you're not too fussy. If you're travelling alone or with one other, you'll be happy enough with what's provided, if you're coming in late and leaving early in the morning, and just need a quick stayover.

I've been staying in hostels since my visit to Germany, and this is an improvement over the last hostel. More spacious rooms, bunk beds, and it was all men in the room. The elevators/lifts were faster. What I didnt like was some teenagers staying at the hostel were rowdy. I would stay here again, and I probably will.

Why arent UK hotels such good value!

Fantastic value for money, very clean and good facilities although the bar was closed due covid. Only downside the place is a rabbit warren in terms of finding your room. Make sure you take the right stair case for your particular room number. Spacious comfortable rooms and personally i loved the modern industrial decor.

Great budget stay

Great hostel! We stayed in a twin room and a great price. Easy check in and out, very welcoming. Nice lounge area with bar which had pool tables and other play equipment. Reasonable bar prices. Also a children's area, working area and laundering area which adds more to the hostel.
Room was pleasant - good size and clean, comfy beds and shower worked well. WiFi worked well and great location.

I've stayed at several A&O's and I have always appreciated their value and cleanliness for our family of 4. This property, however, was dirty. I had to clean dust and grime off the bunk bed frame before allowing my children to climb in. The windows and sills were disgustin. Someone had traced messages in the dirt. The radiator was coated in dust and dripped with food. It is clear that there is a culture with cleaning staff that needs to change. I think there is no excuse for not cleaning properly, particularly in the Covid era. Get you act together!

The hostel provided a clean, comfortably-furnished individual room with en-suite bathroom and shower. Staff was very helpful. Breakfast seemed a bit over-priced compared to what was available in the neighborhood. Location was convenient to the Berliner Tor metro station, which is well-connected to the rest of the city.

Prima! Die Zimmer sind einfach,aber die Matratzen toll.
Einziges Manko, vermutlich war das Wasser in unserem Zimmer zuvor abgestellt. Es kam lange rostbraunes Wasser und es war extrem viel Luft in der Leitung,wodurch dass Wasser dauerhaft stoßweise rauskam..irgendwann war es dann auch richtig warm.
Ansonsten großes Hostel, für den Preis super Frühstück!

La habitación no estaba completamente limpia. El piso se encontraba sucio y debajo de las camas había polvo. Era 31 de diciembre, pedí a recepción la limpieza, pero ya no había personal a esa hora. Fueron el día siguiente después de mediodía. Cuando regresamos en la noche, la limpieza fue superficial, también le comenté al de mantenimiento que el inodoro olía desagradable, lo limpiaron y no quedó olor.

Die Fenster sind undicht. Unabhängig von der Kälte hört man den Straßenverkehr. Grass rauchen ist erlaubt, muss aber nicht in einem Hostel sein.
Ansonsten soweit gut. Einfach gehalten und funktional.
Feuermelder sollten überprüft werden. Die Sirenen sind nicht überall zu hören.

Unser Zimmer war in der Endetage (8) und nach vorne zur Strasse raus. Es war stickig und feucht-warm, so dass wir dachten die Heizung läuft auf 10, diese war aber aus. Also mussten wir das Fenster öffnen und es war sehr laut im Zimmer durch die 6-Spurige Strasse und die Bahngleise. Aber viel Schlimmer: es war dicker schwarzer Schimmel in den Fensterrahmen und den Gummis, so dass wir beschlossen haben dort nicht zu übernachten und nachts mit dem letzten Zug wieder nach Hause zu fahren. Low-Budget schön und gut, aber Basics wie KEINEN Schimmel im Zimmer, sollte Standard sein.

Das Personal war an sich nett, aber als ich erneut zum Tresen ging, weil ich mit der Karte nicht ins Zimmer kam, wurde ich sehr ungläubig und skeptisch angeschaut.
Aufgrund der DB kam ich erst sehr spät im Hotel an (nach 21 Uhr), sodass das Mehrbettgruppenzimmer schon dunkel war und einige versuchten, zu schlafen. Mit Taschenlampe ging ich dann ins Bad, machte mich bettfertig und suchte dann meine Bettnummer. Ich lag als einzige Frau im Zimmer (was ich im Dunkeln erst nicht erkannte, weil ich ja nicht schaute, wer oben in den Doppelstockbetten lag), obwohl es ein gemischtes Zimmer war. Und dann wurde ich auch so betttechnidch zugeordnet, dass ich im einzigen rangeschobenen Einzelbett neben einem Mann liegen musste, obwohl noch in einem Doppelbett unten ein Platz frei war.
Ich weiß nicht, ob das Zimmer verwechselt wurde (weil die Karte anfangs ja auch nicht ging) oder ob man mich trotz offenkundig weiblichen Namens wegen der kurzen Haare versehentlich für einen Mann hielt…war auf jeden Fall super unangenehm.

Der eine Mann dort nahm auch null Rücksicht, kochte sich nachts um 3 plötzlich mit dem Wasseekocher Krümeltee und schlief dann schnarchend weiter. Im Gespräch am nächsten Morgen mit einem der Männer erfuhr ich dann, dass ein Mann darum bat, diesen Mann in ein anderes Zimmer zu schicken, weil er so rücksichtslos ist, aber der Wunsch wurde vom Hostel wohl nicht berücksichtigt.

Zum Glück war ich nur eine Nacht dort…
3 Sterne gibt es, weil das Zimmer sauber&günstig war.

Es war für den Preis soweit alles völlig in Ordnung. Die Fenster vom Zimmer waren sehr dreckig: einige Fettflecken und schmierig. Ansonsten kann ich nichts meckern.
Zum Frühstück können wir nichts sagen, da wir keines hatten.
Es wäre noch praktisch gewesen, wenn es irgendwo in der Nähe günstige Parkmöglichkeiten geben würde.

Das Hostel war im Prinzip ok für den Preis. Jedoch gibt es nur 2 kleine Aufzüge wo max. 3-4 Personen ohne Gepäck reinpassen und auf die man ständig lange warten muss. Da wir im 8.Stock untergebracht waren, war dies leider nicht zu Fuß möglich und schon gar nicht mit Gepäck. Das Personal an der Rezeption war freundlich aber nur wenige waren deutsche Muttersprachler oder gerade in der Einarbeitung. Die Verständigung war daher meist mühsam. Der Frühstückssaal im Keller war eine reine Katastrophe. Das Frühstück war ausreichend und für den Preis recht gut aber es erinnerte mich an eine Gefängnis Mensa... kaum Licht und sehr kleine Fenster und niedrige Decken. Das hat uns wirklich erschreckt. Dennoch ist das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnisses des Hotels gut und die Lage in Ordnung. Es gibt in unmittelbarer Nähe U und S-Bahn sowie Busanbindung.

Halvdelen af elevatorerne var ude af drift, det er ikke nemt at komme op på 7. sal med barnevogn, der ikke passer i én af de to fungerende elevatorer. Generelt var der stor pres på de fungerende elevatorer, og måtte af flere omgange gå op til 7. Sal, eller ned derfra.
Manglende tilsendt information om checkin, som i øvrigt blev udført af en receptionist der slet ikke burde har været på arbejde den dag. Virkede nærmest irriteret over indtjekningen, og gav os ingen information om hvor og hvordan morgenmad fungerede, eller hvor elevatorerne var. Kort til værelset udleveret, og videre... Vi måtte den efterfølgende morgen konstatere at vi ikke havde fået den nødvendige QR kode til morgenmaden, som jeg måtte op at hente i receptionen. Morgenmaden var dog efter omstændighederne ganske fin, der var et godt udvalg og hele tiden fyldt op. Priserne på mad og drikke var helt hen i vejret, men man må man jo forvente at det er dyrt sådan et sted. Værelset var pænt og møblementet relativt nyt og intakt. Sengene var skummadrasser, som var en anelse udfordrende at sove på. Grundet den ekstreme varme, og af sikkerhedsmæssige årsager, var det ikke muligt at åbne vinduerne meget, og vi kogte i noget der minder om 35-40 grader på værelset. Ikke et sted der giver mening for småbørnefamilier. Mangel på parkeringspladser gjorde at vi skulle parkere i parkeringshus til 20 euro om dagen. Så får pengene hurtigt ben at gå på.

Gute Anbindung zur S1 mit der man praktisch überall hinkommt. Übernachtung mit Frühstück hatten wir gebucht, viele unterschiedliche Generationen, aus den unterschiedlichsten Ländern waren vertreten, trotzdem Ruhe zum angenehmen schlaf gefunden. Auf dem Dach ein paar Sitzgelegenheiten um den Tag ausklingen zu lassen.

Also der Preis war ok, aber drum herum nicht.
Das Angebot an Speisen ist sehr bedürftig und viel zu teuer für die Größe der Position.
Getränke ebenfalls zu teuer. Eine Pepsi (0.5) 3,40€ und eine Flasche Bier (0,5) 5€(aus dem Automate)
Die Fenster kann man nur ganz öffnen und der Straßenlärm, schrecklich. Fahrstühle funktionierten nicht und wenn man in den 6. Stock muss, mit viel Gepäck, ist man schon am Anfang super genervt.
Ich hab im Zimmer, einen € gefunden, was mir sagt, das das Zimmer nur oberflächlich gereinigt wurde.
Das eine Kopfkissen hatte einen großen Fleck, einfach eckig.
In der Nacht, laufen die Kinder, von anderen Gästen, laut durch die gänge und klopfen sogar an die Türen. Also an schlaf und Erholung, ist in diesem Hostel nicht zu denken.
Also für Party people ist es wahrscheinlich perfekt, aber für leute, die einfach mal abschalten wollen, nicht.und übrigens, ist Hamburg eine riesige Baustelle und vom Berliner Tor sind es nicht 5 Minuten,wie a&o es auf ihrer seite schreiben, sondern 20 Minuten, da man einmal um den Pudding muss.
Im großen und ganzen bin ich enttäuscht.

Das komplette Hostel ist in einem katastrophalen Zustand. Ab dem Bereich des Fahrstuhls bis ins Zimmer waren die Wände verkratzt, bemalt und dreckig. Das Zimmer war nicht gereinigt. Die Bettwäsche mit Tierhaaren. Das Hochbett war ohne Bettwäsche. Alles Marode. Trotz niedrigem Preis, kann man Sauberkeit erwarten. Frechheit! Haben direkt wieder ausgecheckt, auch wenn wir den Betrag nicht erstattet bekommen haben. Achtung, die Fotos des Hoteld stimmen ich mit der Realität überein.

Glædeligt overrasket

Første gang vi har prøvet et hostel, og vi var lidt forberedte på det kunne være noget billigt møg.
Men vi blev glædeligt overrasket.
Rummelige værelser, gode senge og rent på værelserne.
Også børnevenligt, med meget at tage sig til i lobbyen.

Das Hauptargument für diese Unterkunft ist definitiv die Lage direkt am hauptbahnhof. Ansonsten sind die zimmer ausreichend ausgestattet. Die Sauberkeit im Empfangsbereich und in der Dusche auf dem Zimmer waren eher mittelmäßig. Zusätzlich waren während meines dreitägigen Aufenthaltes die Aufzüge nur eingeschränkt nutzbar. Das Frühstück ist für 12 € in Sachen Preis/Leistung gut, auch wenn die Essensräume im keller erst einmal gewöhnungsbedürftig sind.Die Dachterrasse und skybar sind hier ein gutes nice have.

Super fint ophold. Vores værlese havde en sjov lugt, og det var svært at lufte ud, fordi vinduer var sikret så man ikke kunne falde ud.
Værelset var rigtog fint, med ok plads til 4 personer.
Rengøring var ok.
Morgenmaden var fin, en smule større udvalg ville være lækkert.
Vi kunne godt finde på at besøge A&O igen.
Der er i øvrigt var der god service.

Hotel war für dieses Preis völlig okay . Wahren 2 Nächte dort ( 2 Männer ) Betten kann man auseinander ziehen, so das jeder sein eigenes hat, war super. Zimmer war sauber, Lage des Hotels 5 min mit Taxi zur Reeperbahn.

Alt for dyrt ift. hotellet.

Nedslidt og trist hotel i en kedelig ende af byen. Service var der ikke og der mangler grundig rengøring, helt ud i hjørnerne. Ville ønske at jeg kunne sige at hotellet stod mål med prisen, men det er virkelig overpriced i forhold til hvad man får.
