Most of the staff not very pleasant - with exception of Italian restaurant. Resort under construction even on sundays. Kerik and Charlie made the trip - bartenders other than resort is ok , beaches are beautiful and close to airport which is nice and can see the planes take off and land

Hotel is beautiful, food is fresh but always cold. The hotel need to ensure the food are hot or at least warm enough for consumption.

Hotel staffs are not warm nor pleasant... forget trying to give cash tips because they don't appreciate it nor thank you for it. Well not only the hotel staffs, the whole city doesnt not have 'Thank you' in their vocabulary.

Best food in the Hotel is MR JOHNs burger at the Oasis pool side.

Overall it was nice but i expected better based on the price point paid. Also, when booking from expedia, you dont get what you paid for and displayed pictures are false advertisement.
I paid for pool view and i will insert what view they gave me... never pay extra cos you never get what you paid for. 2 times i have been so angry but lessons learned.

The resort was beautiful, clean, the pool was fun, the staff was friendly and helpful. We didn’t really eat there other than breakfast because there’s so many great restaurants in Sint Maarten. The resort is in the best location. We really enjoyed our time.

The place is nice: good pool for the kids, staff was mostly nice, food was ok for an all-inclusive. It seems that they keep things sanitary and clean, which is very important. Drinks were good too. Rooms were ok, but beds were not very comfortable and small if you plan to share a bed with a child. Those were twin beds with very inconvenient mattresses and pillows. Also, there is an open air club across the street which blasts music till 3am on Fri/Sat. If you get a room with the street view, it will be tough to sleep because of the street and club noise. There is no real beach at the property. You have to either walk to Maho beach, which is not that nice, but suitable mostly for plane watching. Also walking there is not very convenient--either through the street or stones and water, since they don't allow conveniently walking through the neighboring resort. There is another beach close by, but best to drive there. Also, will have to pay for beach chairs and everything else. Overall, it's not bad for the price, but I don't think I would go to this resort or island again.

There are so many problems with this hotel. One , rooms have e terrible smell, it is almost impossible to sleep with close balcony door.
Second hotel advertised that it has beach , there is no beach . You have to work through two other properties to go to the beach .
The other problem that I can mention is the flies all over the food.

The food at the buffet was horrible. My husband got food poisoning! The bartenders were not very attentive, there were only 3 elevators for the entire building and wait times were pretty long. Also, apparently there is beach access only 1/2 of the year! We were very disappointed as we booked a beach vacation, not a pool vacation!!!! I will not recommend this property.

You definitely get what you pay for here. You may turn an eye to the facilities but 60% of staff were miserable to be working or servicing. The buffet had the worst with a few wait staff being rude or completely forgetting to bring you even water. That coffee shop, don’t ask for anything they look at you like why are u ordering anything. food is very sub par but I guess expected with all inclusive. We ate out several times. Rooms need extensive facelifts, they smell musty. The amount of dust on that phone/clock was gross. There’s no beach here, you must climb rocks and steps to get in the water. We spent a few days at a beach club for extra fees. Got food poisoning after having lunch at buffet. The beach towels is so uncomfortable you’re defending why you might need 1 more towel. Weather was fantastic, mullet beach was great. Will not come back here again.

My room did not get cleaned until late in the afternoon. I didn't think the food in the Mexican and Asian restaurants was good. The Italian was good. Also the Asian restaurant was closed 2 nights in a row. Why? The staff was very friendly.

Overall, great stay! The majority of staff were very friendly and welcoming. The pool area was fantastic and they had some sort of entertainment there most of the day. We appreciated the availability of canned beer and bottled water. The food was pretty good, although the restaurants aren’t open all days of the week, so that was tricky to figure out at first. The beach was nothing like advertised. I wouldn’t even consider it a beach. It’s a cliff and you have to climb over boulders and through splashing waves to get to Mahó Beach (or walk on the street). There also is no beach volleyball as advertised. They wouldn’t even allow us to borrow one. My kids didn’t want to go to kids’ club because it’s mostly geared towards very young kids, not 12 year olds. They should maybe have a 1-5, 6-12 kids club or allow older kids to visit the teen club. There was also a kids’ club staff member who embarrassed my kid for having slightly damp shorts. Like I said, it was overall a good place to stay. I would go back, but other guests should know that expectations might not meet reality.

We checked in on feb 7. . That night we had a huge cockroach in our room which we immediately complained about. That night we received a phone call that our daughter had suffered a stroke so had to immediately book a return flight. While packing our bags there was another cockroach by our luggage which we also complained about. We requested a refund or voucher for future travel because of our situation and was told by the manager that she would do that for us. Now she tells us that she cannot help us that it would be up to Expedia to refund us or give us a voucher. We also did not have hot water and neither did the other party that we traveled with. They remained there and the hot water problem was never addressed. We were extremely disappointed in how we were treated.

Overall, this was a good stay. The staff was not overly friendly, but attentive. The rooms were a big dated, but very clean. Housekeeping was also spot on. Stay on floors nine or ten so you have access to Cloud 9. This is their rooftop bar and has a great viewing area for the landing planes. The food was good, but not excellent as more variety is needed. The beach area is small and I would not want to stay here during heavy tourist season as the kids would be quite annoying. We will go back.

I think if you are coming just to stay in a resort for some sun you could certainly find much cheaper all inclusive options but if you specifically want to see SXM this is a great option of a place to stay!

First, we paid a premium for a deluxe king pool view, and upon arrival we were given rooms that were just looking at trees and we were told that what we paid for. The second thing is two hours prior to check out with the do not disturb sign on the door the maid proceeded to enter the room, when I was just getting out of the shower with no clothes on.

Rooms, I had to call on 2 separate occasions for the cleaning staff to replace the right combination of towels and wash cloths.
Maho beach is a great vibe but the resort does not face the beach in a place where one can easily walk from resort to the beach shores. In stead you have to walk around or walk on the shore of the neighboring property to get to a sea bathing friendly section of maho beach.
The buffet food wasn’t that great. Even though it’s buffet they serve you. Whereas other all inclusives I have been to like Sandals. You are allowed to serve yourself.

We just got back from the Sonesta!! Signature island view double room. We had stunning sunset ocean views every day. This property is great. I'd 100% recommend this place. The room was cleaned every day. Fridge re-stocked every day. Pool area both kids pool and adults along with waterslides were great. Food and service was great. Staff was super great. The kids loved the kids club. Evening entertainment almost every night. The beach is rocky/wavy. If you're a strong swimmer you're fine. If not, I wouldn't recommend swimming right at the hotel/maho beach. Mullet Bay Beach is super close and amazing though. Walking down to the beach & watching planes fly overhead is amazing. Hearing planes take off and land never got boring. You see cruise ships come and go. It's amazing. I'd absolutely come back. A solid 4 star for sure.
Maho cafe coffees and desserts were good! There's sandwiches too.

The room was spacious and comfortable, with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The location was perfect, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel made us feel welcome and at ease. The general atmosphere was incredibly negative. I did not see a smile on the face of any employee. It was very apparent that staff did not care about any of the guests and were reporting to work just to fulfill their duties.

There are 6 restaurants with staggered schedules meaning that only 4 were open at any given time. Food quality was poor to fair (the buffet was decent), and food service was exceptionally slow in most cases and included servers with careless attitudes and a downright disregard for guest satisfaction. Many were simply rude. Again, no smiles whatsoever.

Rules were either incredibly strict or not enforced at all. No flexibility or variability. For instance, we requested a late checkout and were sharply informed that “we do not permit late checkouts on Thursdays.” No explanation, no empathy, no mention of assisting to hold bags, find a cab, etc. Just an abrupt “click” to end the telephone conversation. All poolside chairs were claimed by guests by 6am with zero enforcement of any towel removal policy if unoccupied for a given amount of time. This made it exceptionally challenging for my family of five to enjoy the pool or the makeshift “beach” at all. The towel process was also quite frustrating. When we asked for towels, we were denied as we did not have “towel cards.” However, despite asking for clarity, no one supplied an explanation regarding this process and/or where/how to obtain towel cards. We had to take them when the “towel bosses” weren’t lookin

While the front desk staff was lovely and accommodating, our overall experience at this hotel was not great. The hotel is dated and I’d need of some tlc. I booked three rooms as we were traveling with my elderly mom and my three daughters ages 16, 20, 21. First there was a waterbug issue in the girls’ room (many bugs) and thankfully they gave them a different room, but they were freaked out - it was bad. Then the handicap accessible shower in mom’s room flooded the whole room but they promptly sent someone to check drain and clean up the mess. Things happen and they did address these issues for us. We were really disappointed with the food overall though and the service at the bars and restaurants was inconsistent. Another disappointment for us was the beach here. It was difficult to access and very rocky. Wouldn’t recommend.

My group’s only complaint was the flexibility with the guests at the time of checking out, if you are not out of the room with all your things at the checkout time on the dot, you get locked out, your bracelet/key gets automatically disabled. Then you have to go to the lobby and get someone to re activate your key in order to get your things and back to the lobby for the checkout.

My Family and I had a great time in St. Martin. The property, Maho Sonesta Resort.

The property met our needs for a Family of 6 adults during the week of Christmas 2025. We stayed for 5 nights and had a great time in St Martin. The property itself is good, not great. The food became a bit repetitive after awhile and it was ok at best. The adult beverages are plentiful but not premium. The property itself has probably seen better days but it wasn't bad at all. The property however could use a good cleaning and upgrade. The staff were hit or miss. Some staff members went above and beyond to satisfy our stay yet others came off as though we were a bother. The location of the resort is perfect, not to far from the airport; right on the beach and in an area that always a few shops and the feeling of being very safe.

Q:Would we stay at the Sonesta Maho??? I would say yes if the price is right, but I would also check a few other resorts before making my final decision.

Easy to access from the airport. Near Maho Beach for plane sightings. Beach access. Smaller Resort made it easy to get to restaurants and pool/beach and back to the room. Rooms were ok. Upon entering the room we noticed that the phone was not working and the room safe was not working.......The shower design is CRAZY. Our bathroom floor flooded the first night.......The food is mid and I would give this resort a 7/10.

The room was nice and the cleaning staff cleaned but the room always smelled like a wet rag. Although the hotel staff kind but they were very unaccommodating. There was a price tag attached to everything. The kids club staff were the best out of the whole place. Food was typical all inclusive food, not much show of their culture. The shows were also unimpressive. They didn't really include the guest in the shows except for on one night. The teen club was a waste of time and space. My teens refused to stay there, they should have had dance party one of the nights or something more entertaining for the teens. Karaoke was inconvenient to the kids as they could not get into the bar! Like seriously! My travel and I travel as a large group every year and this is was not very accommodating. We could not even sit together at an all inclusive resort without paying $20 per person! Unbelievable!

There was one night I went to the maho cafe at 625 pm and the girl scolded me for walking on her freshly mopped floor, then rubbed her head in frustration when another couple walked in behind me. So sorry to have disturbed you! Otherwise the location and views are immaculate and would absolutely be back.

The staff could be friendlier especially at the restaurants. Everyone looks bored. There is quite a lack of entertainment at the resort. Often times there’s nothing much to do other than the pool and beach.

I enjoyed my stay at the Sonesta. The buffet food was pretty good. Some people at the front desk was kind of rude, but overall the staff was really nice. I will return back to Sonesta.
