Check-in staff was beyond friendly to start with! Love the secure aspect for use of the elevators, and the breakfast is phenomenal, changing daily with quite the spread and again friendly staff! The rooms were beautifully done, and ingenious --from the spaciousness under the beds to the universal bathroom door, and doorless shower, to the beauty of the wood/general decor. The rooftop bar was nice the one night we went, with a gorgeous view of the city. The only suggestion we would have is to possibly look into Valet parking or to make the parking that is available with 'in-and-out' privileges if staying at the hotel. Otherwise you're spending an arem and a leg if you have to drive.
We would absolutely stay here again! :)

The included breakfast was the best ever! It was like a Vegas buffet, but free! Location was perfect. There isn’t hotel parking, but there is a convenient, safe, covered parking garage across the street, but must pay to park there. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

We loved the location of this hotel, and appreciated the smart design of the rooms. Breakfast is part of the room rate, and it was plentiful, though not exceptional. The elevators are very fast and efficient. Front desk staff was helpful and available. We would stay at this hotel again.

My parents stayed here while in town visiting. They had a fantastic experience, appreciating how clean the rooms were and the excellent variety at breakfast. The only hiccup was an exterior bell hop refusing to let my 72 year old father use the luggage trolley himself. Of course he was happy to provide use of the trolley for a tip…

Very clean. Very nice hotel. But no microwaves at all anywhere on the premises. Also no snack bar or vending machines so nowhere to purchase water or snacks unless you leave the hotel. Drinks at rooftop bar super expensive but nice views.

The breakfast buffet adds great value to your stay at this property. They have nearly anything you can think of available on the buffet.

The room was clean and updated. Four elevators simultaneously in operation made getting from floor to floor very quick.

Your room key is needed to operate the room lights and elevators (unless going to the lobby floor), which is a nice security feature.

The hotel is very close to the shopping on the Magnificent Mile, and CTA stops / stations are nearby as well. I found the area to be very walkable.

I’d love to return to the property, if I’m in Chicago again in the future.

Positives: Best breakfast ever. My surprise chocolates for my birthday was lovely, The facility and room were clean and spacious, but here are the negatives: We could not get past the fact there was no ice bucket in which to put the ice for cold water. Instead we had to shlep down to the lobby bar, handed a plastic bag of ice(think garbage can liner bag) which we had to sit in the bathroom sink - YUK - where it melted very quickly. There were no extra blanket, or pillows . Instead there was one single child sized extra pillow and when we asked housekeeping for another - we were told we needed to get it from the front desk - which made me me think there would be a charge. King sized beds need two king sized pillows minimum! and when requested I shouldn't have to go down to the front desk for permission, when housekeeping was right in front of my room.
Which leads me to The \"information\" desk - useless. We are older and first time in Chicago and had hoped for some recommendations/directions (i.e. think concierge) instead no one seemed to have command of the English language and universally when I asked anyone about anything, I was told I needed to go ask so and so. This lack of customer service was off putting. I'm not likely to recommend the hotel for these basic customer service fails.

This is a new hotel (2024) but you can already see wear and tear. It’s maybe slightly better than a holiday inn. The blanket is a little weird in that’s it’s a fleece between two sheets. It’s clear the fleece isn’t washed between stays as you can see hair. I agree with other reviews that not having card verification on both sides of the elevator is a huge miss. It’s only on the right side so people crowd the right panel.

You can’t fault the staff - super nice and polite.

Parking is a big issue and cost ( $70/day)
Don’t provide water in your room , only the first night ( 2 small bottles )
The terrace restaurant does not have the best city view.

The room was relatively small. The front desk agent who helped with check-in was not friendly at all and gave minimal explanation (she only said the breakfast hours but didn't bother to mention which floor the restaurant is on). The wifi never worked. The rooftop bar was closed without explanation on June 8th, 2026. When I arrived, there was only a signage board and no employees. Thus, the lobby bar was crowded, and the cleaning wasn't thorough. The location is good, but the room size is like the regular hotels in Japan (considered small in the USA). If it is a business hotel with no working Wi-Fi, I won't be staying here, even if the price is reasonable for the location. For family/leisure purposes, the room is too small, and the mediocre service wouldn't help create a memorable stay experience either.

The staff held our luggage upon arrival for our 5 day stay. They gave the luggage to wrong customer who travelled out of state with it. We were without clothes and more importantly medications. Was relieved that they did discover the error after reviewing video recordings- error by staff and other hotel guest who should have never taken the luggage. Terrible customer service still arose even after this:

1. Promise that special courier would be traveling to Michigan and return the luggage by 4am. We had plans and arrangements for our first ever vacation in Chicago so thought would be fine. Alas, luggage did not arrive. No reasoning given.
2. I had to insist that the hotel at least launder the clothes my wife and I had worn for 18 plus hours so that we’d have clothes to wear. Initially they said could not do it within the timeframe we needed but after pushing-they managed fine-and good thing because had same clothes to wear again next day when left hotel.
3. Staff advised where I could get medication from closest pharmacy and we gave itemized list of valuables missing - which again thankfully-next day in afternoon (not 4am as promised) our luggage and meds and glasses all fine.
4. Staff waived taxes only. No other comps provided notwithstanding that we once got drinks at their nice rooftop bar. Gave us few pieces chocolate and champagne (we checked that could open at rooftop bar- upon arrival-snooty mgr. said NO. We told him to check. He didn’t. Front desk lady then apologized

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The location was perfect, with everything conveniently located nearby. The cleanliness was outstanding—10/10. Our room was very comfortable and well-maintained. The lobby is beautiful, and the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay.

The breakfast was one of the best we have experienced at any hotel. The variety and quality of the food were exceptional, and the menu changed daily, which was a nice touch. The dining area is spacious, beautifully designed, and offers plenty of seating.

The service from all staff members was outstanding, making our stay even more enjoyable. Overall, it was an excellent experience from start to finish. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and memorable stay. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The staff at the Hotel Riu in Chicago were exceptional and very nice. The rooms were very nicely done, loved the new floors - no old rugs like some Hiltons… The bathrooms were amazing. Love the big shower, double sinks and bathroom door that closes to the toilet area as well as the entire bathroom. Great concept!! Furniture was minimalist in style. Only drawback was the sparse blanket covered by 2 sheets, but I have seen that a lot lately traveling… wonder city and place to visit!! Bartender was super and drinks were done to perfection! Great location and place to stay… easy walk to all the city destinations.

This hotel is top notch! The staff was amazingly helpful, as well as understanding and kind. The rooms are so welcoming and even the backstreet views are wonderful. It is located in walking distance from 3 dots and a dash, to the art Institute, even Navy Pier. The only downfall is the rooftops food and drink, for such a spectacular view and ambiance, the food and drink is underwhelming and high priced. I hope they up these things for our next visit and it will be the top of the top hotel experiences in Streetwrville.

The hotel is good, I can see this is a preference for many people that go to Chicago. Location is great, next to Michigan street (Harry Potter store), many restaurants, shopping options and near the Museum of Contemporary Art. The room is good, staff are really nice, I ate food from the main floor bar and it was decent (not great quality). The room was good, decorations are modern and cost/benefict is good for spending the day out and coming back to sleep.

Great location! They don’t really offer much perks while staying on property besides the usual. We tried going up to the rooftop bar but they don’t acknowledge if you’re even staying with them or not— and require a reservation. We thought since we’re guest there we’d have a better chance of grabbing some seats. But overall location was great, staff was okay (asked for recommendations from the Chicagoans but most of them didn’t even know where those places were) nothing like getting word of mouth for good food, great bars, etc.

We stayed from Friday to Monday and the lobby the entire time smells like sewer and like the tried to cover it up with air fresheners. We walked through other hotels on the same block but for some reason this one is the only one that smells. The bell man guy I can’t recall his name older gentlemen is super rude. We had gotten there at 3 and our room wasn’t cleaned and they didn’t even start cleaning it so they offered us a different room which fine things happen. However there’s 5 of us in a room one roll of toilet paper we had to call multiple times to get any service to our room and when they finally came they would bring one roll at one point we went into the hallway because they took so long we asked one of the maids and she didn’t even want to give it to us either. (I don’t know what the problem is with guests using toilet paper) there was only one partial roll when we got into the room anyways. Our room that we received was not cleaned. The sheets were stained and so were the pillow cases. I had called to get new ones and they only brought new pillow cases and wouldn’t give us a new sheet. Overall we wouldn’t stay here again. Breakfast is mediocre taste wise but, they have a good arrangement of food. The bartender (a woman) she was amazing and sweet in the lobby! And the rooftop bar is great! Staff could do better with their attitudes and assistance for guests. The sewer smell isn’t their fault I understand but customer service is.

This hotel is absolutely lovely! Immaculate in every area, with very helpful and friendly staff. The room was perfectly appointed. The bathroom door doubled as a door to the toilet and I want one of those in my house! The rain shower with a wand had great water pressure and temperature. I'm not a fan of open showers and this one was as expected; it's chilly when you turn off the water and there is not ceiling fan in the bathroom to take away the steam. Otherwise, the bathroom had a double sink with nice storage below. The bedroom offered plenty of space with a desk, dresser, nightstand, dresser for my suitcase and a couch. You need to insert your key to use the lights and heater/ac, which is an energy saver. The included buffet breakfast is off the charts delicious and offers everything you can wish. Overall this was a wonderful place to stay, right in the middle of all the action on the Magnificent Mile, and I would definitely stay there again.

Really didn’t like how loud the hotel doors were when they slammed. It’s the loudest thing and it’s really not helpful when cleaning staff is there all day slamming doors constantly. It’s also not great when you have kids screaming and playing and slamming the door for an hour and a half and having to deal with that.

Hotel room was very neat and clean. The continental breakfast on the second floor was fantastic and had a vast variety of breakfast food to choose from. For the amount of food and people for this room, the staff did an excellent job keeping this cleaned and very well maintained. Upon checking in and checking out, the staff was very warm and friendly.
