There is no air conditioning in the hotel, so my initial room was oppressively hot because the blinds had been left open and the room was just heating up all day. The front desk kindly moved my room to a cooler one that was still quite hot. If you have a health condition that makes you sensitive to the heat, I would not stay here in a heat wave. The bathroom smelled very strongly of damp. Despite all these complaints this is a very nice hotel for the price.

Great location with very Clean Room!

Great Service! Very friendly and helpful Service!! Very Clean room!! Great location and so many delicious restaurants nearby within walking distance. All around were nice people and I felt very safe in this area. I really enjoyed my stay. However, just FYI; the walls and floors are 'thin' so you hear everything. My room provided ear plugs.

Good central location.

Good location. Close public transport and sights. Good eating places nearby. Place is quiet in the night so good for a night’s rest. Place is safe too. The con is room has no kettle so cannot make hot drinks in the morning.

Great blucal flavor Hotel

As in most Berlin local hotels, we had no a/c but the eveningd were always cool and the hotel provided a modern very efficienct fan! We are so pleased we are returning when we leave Berlin! Great cafes, bier Gardens and shops all around. Still visiting all the holocaust memorials is a very sad thing to do. Berliners are very respectful and most pledge “never to forget”

The hotel was average. The staff were great and friendly. The location was great. The wifi was pretty much non-existent in the room. The decor was very dated and a little depressing. The bed was 2 single beds pushed together which frequently came apart. Breakfast was overpriced. Overall, meh.

Good value hotel in a fancy area.

Close to transport links and surrounding by great local architecture with cafe bars and boutiques. Hotel is functional and clean, staff are friendly and efficient although can get a bit busy if more than one or two people are checking in or out. Would stay there again.

Very quiet location for a good value stay

The hotel staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location is on the outer edge of the transit system, but the SBahn is close and easy to use. Best to use a taxi to and from Tiegel Airport. About $22 each way.

Good location, great buffet (worth the price), very clean rooms, good service. We enjoyed small bands in the evenings playing in the restaurant/bar, mostly Tuesday and Thursdays only and would quit playing at 10:00pm sharp! Unlike other hotels, the room was provided with a stand-up fan during the warm months since it was not equipped with A/C.

Very nice and quiet hotel

Wonderfull hotel. Very quiet and in nice central neighbourhood with lots of restaurants and cafees. Breakfast served i beautiful courtyard. The room was clean and very comfortable.
The hotelstaff was very nice and helpfull.
The only bad experience was the portier on duty, when we arrived in the evening. He was apparently in a very bad mood and very condecending and rude.
We will definitely stay at the hotel again and just hope that the grumpy portier is not on duty.

Great Location

Hotel in fantastic location. Lovely area with bars and cafes, good public transport links, and many of Berlins sights can be reached on foot.
The hotel is in a lovely building with attractive court yard.
The room is basic,small and dated. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean.

Spartan, depressing hotel

Very basic, depressing hotel room. Nothing the least bit cheerful about the room! Large room by European standards, but a huge disappointment. Good size bathroom, but it had an odd smell that I couldn't identify. No tub, or shower stall.....only a shower curtain with a drain in the middle of the floor. Mattresses were uncomfortable/sheets rough and of poor quality. Only thing charming about the hotel, was the small courtyard. We were never invited to use it, and it was kept locked. We were surprised to learn that we had to pay a city tax, but were told we could pay it when checking out. Our room was prepaid. After dinner out, a different hotel clerk insisted that we pay the city tax immediately. Rather than cause a scene, we did so. No in-room safe was provided. We would not stay at this hotel again!

not a great hotel

the room was very small with no extras, not a kettle, no accessories. it felt very bare. but it was clean and close to an S Bahn station and to some street-cars that lead to Hackescher Markt, Alexander Platz, Friedrichstrasse and others.

Nice neighborhood

Easy transportation and nearby places. Seemed like a up and coming trendy neighborhood with many art galleries. Hotel staff spoke English and went out of their way to be helpful. The desk was manned 24 hours with the clerk actually at the desk and awake. Security was excellent although I had no problem walking from the nearby S Bahn after dark. The S Bahn platform always had a person on the platform which was also nice. The restaurant on the corner had reasonable priced drinks and was a great place for people watching.

Recommended - clean rooms & great location

Hotel was great. REally good location, with lots of nice bars and restuarants within easy walking. Easy access to the S-bahn, one stop from Freidrichstrasse station.
Room was very comfortable and generous on size for a single room - the bed was much bigger than a normal 'single'. Bathroom had all amenities, and shower was good.
Only problem with hotel was the fresh laundry being delivered at 2am each morning, which made a dreadful noise that travelled up the stairwell, since there are hardfloors throughout the hotel (i.e. no carpet to dull the noise of the trolley carrying the laundry).
Would definitely recommend if you need a comfortable and clean place to rest your head, but don't need all the frills of a luxury hotel.

Perfect location!

Mitte is a great area with lots of interesting bars and restaurants within a few minutes walk from the hotel. Also, the U-Bahn and S-Bahn are only a few minutes walk away so it is easy to access all the sights of Berlin. The hotel room and bathroom was very large, clean and comfortable. We didn't have breakfast there as there was a good cafe bar across the road which did very good breakfasts at a reasonable price (Keyser Soze)

Charming hotel conveniently located

My sisters and I stayed only one night at the hotel and have no complaints. When we arrived, they did not have the correct reservation dates in their computers, but was not a problem at all. The people working at the desk were so nice and they took care of it without any hesitation. The room was so comfortable and charming that I wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is a short walk to Museum Island, the neighborhood is peaceful and there are a lot of nice places to eat nearby. It was one of our favorite hotels on our trip and we would definitely stay there again.

The hotel was clean. Decor was very simple. King bed was two rolling twins pushed together, with separate comforters - not very romantic. Our room was street facing and was VERY loud (on the 2nd floor). We could hear every conversation that went on until 3 am (popular neighborhood!). Nice neighborhood, warm heaters and hot water.

Location, location, location

I spent the most delightful weekend at hotel Augustinenhof. From check in to check out, the experience was amazing. The staff go out of their way for you, offering advice and even held my bag on my last day so that I could spend the last few hours enjoying Berlin, without dragging my luggage around. The room was spotlessly clean, TV with some English news channels, mini bar and free WiFi. It's also on a beautiful street full of art galleries and designer boutiques. There are cafes, bars and restaurants within a minutes walking distance in every direction. Oranienstrasse ubahn is five minutes walk and Museum Island approximately 10 minutes. Berlin was amazing. I will return next year and will stay at this hotel.

Hotel Augustinenhof

This hotel was quite good and provided a good place to stay for my short stay. The hotel is in a great location near to the U-Bahn and also in an area with many restaurants, bars, and shops. The hotel itself was very clean and comfortable an had a very good WiFi connection. I would recommend this hotel for a stay in Berlin.

No bells and whistles but a very competent hotel that ticks all the boxes.

Ok size room but I did pay extra for a double room for single occupancy. The single rooms just have a bed on a wall in the room.

I would stay again.

Hotel charges you extra on top of booking for city tax, not something I've ever seen in Berlin before as the price you see is normally the price you pay.

I came on business which is exempt from city tax so if you are on business and you tell them/prove it then you won't have to pay it.

Nice hotel close to a U Bahn station.

The facilities are very good, you can bring food in and cook which ia very good for those wanting to save on restaurants and the like, the cleanliness was good as well but the internet signal was very weak or non existent at times. We reported that to the reception but it had not been fixed till the end of our stay there. We never used the internet while at the hotel.

Staff were very polite and spoke English.

Berlin Pre 50th Birthday 'me time'.

This is a curiously placed hotel set off a Berlin side street. Upon arrival, it took a couple of minutes to realise that there isn't actually a front entrance, but instead is set into the side of one of two buildings. Although Friedrichstrasse is but a stone's throw away, this is remarkably quiet at night and the only noise is the occasional bypasser.

My second shock was to find out - upon arrival - that Berlin is now imposing a 2 Euro per night \"private guest tax\". This cost me 6 Euros over a 3-night stay. Expedia did not inform me of this before departure and I tried in vain to get further information. None was available. My guess is that I was either being scammed or it is being phased in on 'hushed' tones. Not happy.

My room was uncomfortably cool and I asked twice for an extra quilt - using my very best German - only for my request to be met with puzzlement. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in my room and the lighting was quite poor when I wanted to read my books. Downstairs in reception there were also no drinks facilities and the female receptionist seemed more engrossed in her latest book than she was interested in my requests as a guest. The restaurant next door was charging 11 Euros for a breakfast !!

Pleasant hotel in an excellent location.

This was my first visit to Berlin and it turned out to be a very enjoyable and interesting one. I was very pleased with my choice of hotel as I had no idea it would turn out to be so well located for visiting Berlin's main attractions. Fixtures and fittings were fairly basic but clean and comfortable. The restaurant was a bonus providing an excellent breakfast and other meals if required. The area was fairly quiet and my friend and I had no worries about walking there at night.

The hotel is in a very quiet neighborhood of galleries, cafes and coffee shops. It's convenient to tourist sights such as Museum island and yet feels local, with families riding bikes and people sipping coffee and eating breakfast in the cafes on their way to work.

Conveniently located on a quiet street

While I would rate the breakfast as average and the hallway carpeting as a little embarassing, these are relatively minor issues. This hotel is clean, quaint, quiet, centrally located, has awesome access to public transportation, and I would definitely go back there again. I hope I get the chance. Many good restaurants and bars nearby too. No wifi in the room, but it's nice to sit in the beautiful courtyard while catching up on email etc. The room was very clean and modern, with a firm bed (very much appreciated). Teeny old-fashioned TV, but we didn't travel to Berlin to watch TV anyway so we didn't care about that.

I arrived at the hotel and checked in in and given a key to my assigned room. Opening pf the door took some getting used to, but was eventually managed. Used the business internet room to deal with a few issues that came up and took note on the brochures on offer at reception.

Conveniently located hotel

This is nice little hotel on a quiet street very close to Museum Island and the start of walking tours. Breakfast in the Italian restaurant next door is not bad value at €6.25 per person. The one downside is the 'free' internet - the system logs you out every couple of minutes, which is very frustrating. It's also pretty slow. Also, while staff tried to be helpful about tours, they obviously had very little knowledge about them.

Very convenient location. They had a shuttle running every ten minutes so it was extremely easy to get to and from places. Staff were uber friendly and polite. They couldn't do enough for us. Overall an awesome experience and I would highly recommend this hotel.

Needs serious modernization

Except for the bathroom, the room needs serious modernization: no WiFi and the TV was a 13-inch tube with very limited choice of channels. The WiFi in the lobby often didn't even work, and when it did, it was incredibly slow. Soap was the only toiletry provided and decor of the room was old. However, the location was convenient and was only 2 minutes from the subway.

It's really 2 single mattresses pushed together and the pillows on the bed are really thin. Bathroom was a disabled one which I wasn't aware of. No bath. It's location is the best to get to all major attractions it doesn't take long to use public transport to get from the hotel to the sights.

No need to look further

I chose this hotel because of the safe location close to museums and transport links, Friedrichstrasse station being reasonably close, also Dada Falafel cafe.
Everything was as I expected and hoped.
It was quiet and felt safe, comfortable and civilised. I made use of the PC in the lounge.
We returned this year to the same room and were equally pleased. I am looking forward to staying here again sometime.

Not as exciting as could be in Berlin

I was disappointed on discovering that the hotel had taken my reservation and confirmed a room to me which was non-smoking, despite my having specially asked for a smoking room. I also did not get any assurance or apology on there being a mistake of sorts.
It is reasonably centrally located though if you have only a night to spare, perhaps look for a hotel on a major road. Specially in contrast with the people in Berlin - who are amazingly charming, helpful, forever smiling and welcoming - I was surprised at the not so forthcoming support from them.

Great location and a very nice room.
Staff were ok - i.e. \"bare minimum helpful\".
The web description said: \"complimentary high-speed (wired) Internet access in the room\" which means only a broad band cable. I misinterpreted this as meaning it had wi-fi, and only had an e-tablet and so was unable to use the cable. When I asked reception if they had any adapters or suggestions they looked at me like I was from Mars, and the only person in the world who has ever had that problem of not bringing with them an adapter. (or am I?). They said I could use the wifi in the lobby but it was not very good.
I did not use any other facilities (sauna, restaurant).

We had asked for a cot for our 8-month-old daughter in advance - they put us into one of the largest rooms, a travelcot was already put up when we got there (including pillow and duvet) - excellent service! High chairs at breakfast were also not a problem. It was really quiet and we had a great stay.

We really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Clean, quiet and very reasonably priced for what was not really a 'room', but a small self-catering flat with two adjoining rooms and a bathroom [Room 162]. Great location, minutes from subway lines. Staff very friendly and helpful, who did their very best to make our stay their hotel and in Berlin memorable.

Convenient location, great breakfast

The hotel Augustinenhof was very comfortable, in a great location near the metro, and served a nice breakfast buffet. The rooms were not large, but were adequate, the front desk personnel were very helpful and patient answering questions and giving directions to nearby services. There were many good restaurants and shopping nearby. Would definately recommend this hotel,especially with the reasonable price.

The room was pretty small, but comfortable and extremely clean. The location is very convenient and central -- very close to the Museum Insel and reasonably close to Alexanderplatz. The staff was friendly and helpful (though I did not ask for very much, as I only stayed one night). The only problem was that you are not supposed to use any electrical appliances in the room -- which is a bit inconvenient. Internet connection worked perfectly and easily (though can use only battery power) in the room. Oh and also the expedia price that I got did not include breakfast as it turned out (this was not clear to me when I booked) so that was a little inconvenient. But there are tons of cafes and restaurants in the area (kind of touristy area, where all servers speak English).

Good choice in Mitte

Great location: at the very heart of Mitte, next door to Kunstwerke exhibition hall and many galleries, if you are into contemporary art. Hotel has something old-fashioned about it: wooden floors, wooden window frames which open into the street (small street with little traffic), no airconditioning (and no need of it by +32 which I endured), tiny TV, pretty basic (but sufficient) comfort. The hotel has some (not overpresent) affiliation with a religious organisation - which did not make rooms any cheaper, alas. You pay for the location and the quietness. Breakfast is served in the restaurant next door, with scrambled eggs and typical German buffet - nothing to write home about, but you will not starve. Lots of restaurants around, some of them cheap. Probably not a place for a romantic getaway but comfortable enough for a business trip. And Internet is truly free!

A DDR Relict

This is a simple, DDR era hotel in the artistic section. Having lived the Cold War on the western side of the Wall, this was a great experience of the architecture and spartan decor of that period. Staff was helpful, friendly, and funny.

This is a lovely little hotel on an interesting street in Mitte. It's close to both the S-Bahn and U-Bahn. The beds have duvet-comforters, German-style. The breakfast buffet -- complete with a pot of coffee or tea for your table -- really sets you up for a day of sightseeing.

I stayed here a few years ago and was happy to return this November

Woud stay there again

We found the hotel well situated for access to the S-bahn and U-bahn. The breakfasts at the associated restaurant were outstanding. Also the hotel was reasonable walking distance to Unter den Linden, New Synagogue and the Reichstag. It is in the former East Berlin, so one gets a flavour the East. While the hotel is nicely renovated, there are some buildings that have changed little in the 65 years since 1945.

Great location

It would have been a perfect stay for the price if they had offered coffee making facilities or a coffee vending machine in reception. Once the restaurant closes there's no option for a snack or a coffee - this is tricky if you have travelled from the antipodes and suffering jet lag those first few days. I donated the electric kettle I bought, so hopefully this will be used for those of us travelling from down under. The location is great and is strolling distance to historic sights and there are great little restaurants in the immediate area of the hotel.

A great hotel in a very good location

The room was very pleasant and spacious with tea and coffee making facilities and tasteful decor. There were plenty of good restaurants nearby as well as unusual art galleries. The staff were helpful and you were within walking distance of the most important tourist attractions.

Wunderschöne, gemütliche Hotelzimmer. Wasserkocher, Kaffee und Tee gibt es auch. Äusserst freundlicher und hilfsbereiter Herr an der Rezeption (organisierte uns noch Zucker spät abends für den Tee) und freundliche Dame an Rezeption. Wirklich Top Service. Hotel super gut zentral gelegen. Sind wir wieder mal in Berlin, buchen wir wieder in Martas Berlin Mitte. Das Hotel können wir nur wärnsten weiterempfehlen.

This is a very convenient location, close to both the Main Station and the Museum Island. The room is reasonably large and clean. Many restaurants and also a big supermarket within an easy walking distance. If they offered breakfast, it would be perfect. This is my only regret. But they offer free coffee and tea, and their court was quite a nice space. The staff were also helpful. If there is a chance, I would like to stay there again.

The hotel was fairly expensive but did not have a safe or fridge in the room. No breakfast either.
Also, it seemed very easy for potential thieves to get to the room as there is a direct access to the rooms that does not go past reception.
