The location was great for traveling to Islas , ferry access great. Unfortunately, the alcohol service was not what I expected. They only had dis xxs to drink. Which is okay, but if like light beers they do t serve on beach or pool area. The pool in the evening was a little dirty and definitely warm. The beach was much cooler. My room was a conjoined and that was nice , but the traffic from street was loud. Wonderful views , boat watching and again ferry access. Not my best stay, but okay. FYI I did walk to Oxxo to get the drinks we enjoy. Defeated the purpose of all inclusive for my family.

1- The balcony door wouldn't close; they fixed it, but then it wouldn't open, so I had to leave my sandals and swimsuit behind because I couldn't get the door open. 2- The shower only produced hot water and smelled like sewage. 3- The phone to call the lobby didn't work; I reported it, but they never replaced it. 4- The air conditioning didn't cool the room enough. 5- One of the pool towels had mucus on it. 6- The food was actually very good, and the beach and pool were clean.

One of the most amazing resorts at a humble price compared to the top rated/named resorts. 3 onsite restaraunts to choose from, and a snack bar that offers a nice selection of food for in between meals. The lobby is unique with an open floor plan and your room is just a couple minutes away to walk from a white sand beach. The staff are all very kind and accommodating. If you're looking for a really good resort and get the best bang for your buck this is it.

It was good environment and lovely area. The one thing I can say is I feel they aren't very organized. Check-in took way longer than it had to be, only one check in person. We reserved a dinner for 10 people two days in advance. When we went to the restaurant, they separated us because we didn't give enough notice.

Overall I give it 4 stars. I wouldn't stay longer than a week there because it is a very small resort and the resort food is basically the same almost every day so that gets old. The rooms were nice and clean. They really valued safety so you never felt unsafe there. For a short trip to a week I highly recoomend. Because it is the North hotel zone our beach was free from sargassium which was a big plus.

By far, the best part of the trip was the staff! All of them were very kind and helpful. I never saw any of them standing around looking for something to do. They were always moving and making sure you had everything you needed.

As others have noted, the check-in process was pretty long. Rooms were perfect and very clean. WiFi worked in one room but not the other due to a very weak signal. The staff called during our first morning very early to give away a \"free gift\" which didn't interest us. Had to unplug the phone due to follow up calls. The beach was not what we had expected; sand was shallow (maybe 1/2 inch deep); rocky shore; no waves; next to a busy waterway with tons of boats. Pool water was dirty but provided some refreshment from the sun. Pool activities were fun and various music was played the entire time.

Food options were plenty and everyone should be able to find some things they will eat, especially if they are picky. Entertainment each evening was family friendly. Our favorites were silent disco and Michael Jackson nights. Excursions are available for purchase at the pool cabana which made it very easy for booking and leaving right from the hotel.

Reserved two rooms double beds. Only had single rooms available. Rooms very dated. Pictures are deceiving. Checked in on Thursday on Friday morning there were bugs on top of blanket and all over bottom of one of our back packs. We checked out and left!

Aesthetic wise the property looks nice… rooms though, they need to be updated. The mini fridge are set too high but keep the drinks just barely cold.. phones don’t work in the rooms and we had a 2x2 room (connected rooms) but the conjoining doors wouldn’t open so it felt like if I left my kids in a different room.. and Check In was too long

We did not like this resort. There are only two different restaurants other than the buffet. It is difficult to get a same day reservation even though they say no problem before 4pm. We tried at 1pm. We got tired of the buffet! The staff at the buffet is good! There is no option for food outside. You have to be fully clothed to eat anything which is not ideal at a beach resort when you are swimming. The resort is more geared toward Mexican people than Americans. The music, activities, etc. They almost solely speak Spanish. I speak Spanish but still not ideal service for Americans. There is no swim up bar or infinity pool. The room option 2X2 connecting rooms is a good option with teens. Definitely no nigh life at this hotel or many teens. It was hard to get more than two towels per room. For prospective we usually stay at a RIU and are always happy! We won't deviate from RIU again.

Beautiful, clean hotel with a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were always smiling and went out of their way to make sure guests had a great experience.
The buffet restaurant was very good, with a varied menu each day. We also made complimentary reservations for one night at the Italian restaurant and one night at the Mexican restaurant. While both restaurants were enjoyable, I found the food a little bland for my taste.

The pool and beach areas were excellent, with easy access and plenty of space to relax. We also took the ferry to the island, which was a great experience and a nice addition to our stay.

Overall, we had a wonderful vacation and would recommend this hotel to others.

As what I consider a value resort in Cancun, all of my expectations were met. The beds were comfortable, the staff was helpful and friendly, the food was average but they do their best to try to make it upscale and the drinks were average. One thing I did not like was that they had zero options, other than water, for drinks not containing fake sugar. All I wanted was a real Mexican Coke made with real sugar and there were none to be found.

A very clean hotel with good food and very friendly staff. The staff continuously walked around with smiles and were very friendly to us, guests, and appeared to have fun amongst themselves. All in all, it appeared they were genuinely happy to work there.

The staff kept cleaning the pool side and restrooms during the day, the rooms were cleaned daily and mini bar (included in the all inclusive) was restocked daily as well.

Plenty of variety with food, great buffet for all main meals. The à la cart restaurants were OK, not really great as it was rather bland. We ate all meals at the buffet as a result which was great.

I would not recommend this resort. The food was poor quality and the additional restaurants were not impressive. It took a very long time to get a drink by the pool. Many of the staff that interacted with guests knew little English. The resort activities were minimal and honestly not enjoyable. The music by the pool could have been more upbeat. The beach was not well maintained and there was plenty of seaweed. The pillows and beds are in desperate need of being updated. We had to ask for washcloths everyday. Overall the room was clean.

Start with the cuisine. Breakfast, lunch, dinner buffet menus are extraordinary in variety and on the pallet. Every employee from the pool guy to the general manger welcomes you with buenos dais every time they pass you. There are hosts and hostess standing by to assist you in any request. The drinks and service at the seaside and lounge bars are superb. The workout room is sufficient for any person who wants to stay in good shape or work off the pound of weight you'll gain every day. One downer is the wait time to check in. It's longer than I'm accustomed to but you'll forget about it. Also, there's like non stop music till 8 so you'll get your peace and not so much quiet. There's also a pirate ship that I would describe as a considerably loud disco. BUT I save the best for last. This place is crazy over families. From Abuela to her bebés this resort is all about serving your clan; the bigger the better. I have to be back in December and I know where I'm staying. MIKE

The room was clean but the drain in the shower was bad and although I asked them to fix it, it wasn’t. Food was nothing great and I’m not a picky eater. The bartenders were attentive and very hard working but the quality of liquor was bad. I think the worst part was the front desk. Very inattentive. I offered to pay more for an upgrade and they told me I had to wait to check availability until the next day. There is only one pool so we spent a lot of the time in the beach area. The shows were fun to look at. Overall, it was ok but would not stay there again.

The hotel is very well maintained, amenities are good, but the offers at the All included restaurants are not good. I didn't see variety of food, and the specialized restaurants, for which you have to reserve in advance take long time to serve you and the food is not good. I'm going to give an example: The seafood restaurant had only salmon and scallops, so, where are the diversity of seafood you suppose to find in it?. If you want a lobster or shrimps you have to pay extra, and the prices are very expensive. It doesn't have many entertaining choices either. The rest of the things are good, I mean the rooms, the beach, the bars, pool, and the staff.

Todo esta demaciado viejo, la comida no hay mucha variedad, el check-in super super lento, más de 1:30 hrs y no estaba la habitación, hay cucurachas en el buffet, puertas, baños, camas, closet, muebles, sillas, super super viejo, luces no funcionan, los teléfonos solo de adornos!!,
Lo único que hace que sobreviva ese hotel!! Es el.personal que trabaja ahí, todo super amables, lastima de hotel y de comida que tienen!! Es basura lo que ofrecen como hotel todo incluido! 👎👎👎 jamás lo voy a recomendar! Y jamás volvería a ir! Y solo fui como acompañante, o visitante no eran mis vacaciones!!

Overall, the hotel was okay, but the food lacked variety. After eating the same meals two or three times, we really didn't feel like having them again. At breakfast, there were no ready-made eggs available, and guests had to wait in line to get them prepared.
There was also a panini listed in the snack bar menu, but it had to be ordered separately. When we tried to order it, we were told it was not available, and in general they only had two or three food options available.
The Spanish restaurant was excellent and served the best food we had during our stay. Unfortunately, the Italian restaurant was disappointing, and some of the food was overcooked or burned. Also, the restaurants did not have air conditioning and only used fans, so they were not cool at all, which made dining quite uncomfortable and sometimes took away the appetite.
The beach is relatively small compared to many other resorts in Cancun.
The rooms were generally clean, but the areas around the bedside lamps were not very clean. The room floors are tiled, and after returning from the pool, even a small amount of water on the floor made it extremely slippery, which did not feel very safe.
This hotel may be a good option for middle-aged couples or travelers looking for a quiet stay, but it is not ideal for teenagers, as there are very limited activities and entertainment options for them

When we got to our room, it wasn’t what I paid for. I paid for 2 double beds with seaside view and balcony. We walked in and it was a King bed and the balcony had no chairs or even enough room to have a chair on it. We went back down to the desk to change rooms to what we paid for which was 2 double beds but they told us they didn’t have anymore left even though other people in our party got 2 double beds after I asked to be moved. And the rooms with 2 double beds had a large balcony with chairs and a hammock. Our air conditioner stopped working on day 1 and I told the front desk about this multiple times and it was never fixed. The bathroom door lock was stuck with the lock pressed in so if you happen to shut the bathroom door after exiting, you were locked out. The Italian restaurant wasn’t open on a Saturday night for dinner. The party doesn’t stop at 10:00 when the pool closes and you can hear everything. Out door wasn’t sealed and you could see out to the hallway through the door significantly which is probably why we could hear everything. The ceiling fan in the room spins at such a low speed it creates zero breeze to help cool the room when your air doesn’t work. We were told no so many times by a variety of different departments even though this is supposed to be an all inclusive. Would not stay at a Barcelo property ever again.

The resort itself was a completely adequate 3-star. The staff particularly were very kind and helpful.

However, on the first day of our stay we were taken to the 5-star location on the otherside of town for a \"presentation.\" Over the course of 3 hours, sales representatives tried to sell me a villa. I was irritated because I was not informed beforehand that it was a sales pitch. I only had 5 days at the resort and this company completely wasted one of my mornings.

The resort itself was fine. But, if you go just tell them to pound sand when they tell you about the \"presentation.\"

Meh... Skip this resort if you are English speaking only, or if you care about a beach, or an ocean to swim in, or guacamole...

The Bad:
The beach is a joke, those who like it have never stayed in a Caribbean beach resort before this. It is a man made beach with almost no sand. Jagged rocks line the water entry. You have a very little and shallow swimming area.
There is a boat fuel filling station on the back side of the hotel. The diesel smell others complain about is not just exhaust, the filling stating spills raw diesel time to time and it floods the hotel area in diesel smell.
Guacamole, You may not care, but I do. There is NO Guac in the buffet, Ever, NON, Zilch, 20 years of visiting Cancun and this is a first for me.. They have it in the Mexican restaurant (which you only get a couple chances of going) and they are stingy with it. They also have it sometimes at the snack bar upstairs at lunch and it is not the same. texture and taste is like store bought fluffed guac in bulk.
Deserts are also terrible. NO real chocolate in this place. unless you like Jello, soggy cakes or fro-yo, no sweets for you. (They wont even refill the small bowl of Nutella in the morning once it is gone.)
You better know Spanish because you receive poor service without it. 8 days and their activity team never once approached us (3 teenagers and 2 adults). Food allergies where a mess trying to explain gluten and egg.

Other than that, it was a nice place with good food.

Nuestra estadía en Occidental Costa Cancún fue muy buena y definitivamente volveríamos. Desde que llegamos, el personal fue muy amable y atento en todo momento, siempre dispuestos a ayudar y hacer que nos sintiéramos cómodos.

El hotel tiene todo lo necesario para pasar unas vacaciones tranquilas y disfrutar sin preocupaciones. Las instalaciones son cómodas, limpias y la ubicación también nos pareció bastante conveniente. Consideramos que la relación calidad-precio es muy buena, especialmente para todo lo que ofrece el hotel.

La piscina y las áreas comunes estaban muy bien cuidadas, y en general el ambiente se sentía relajante y agradable. También nos gustó mucho que siempre había actividades y opciones para entretenerse durante el día.

Si tuviéramos que mencionar algo para mejorar, quizá sería un poco más de variedad en la comida, ya que después de varios días se vuelve un poco repetitiva. Sin embargo, la comida estaba bien y siempre encontramos algo que nos gustara.

Fuera de eso, realmente nos encantó la experiencia. Fue una estadía muy cómoda y agradable, y nos llevamos una muy buena impresión del hotel y de todo el personal. ¡Muchas gracias por hacernos pasar unas lindas vacaciones!

Hotel, staff was great, perfect beach view. The only downside was the food, not that great specially the buffet couple of times for breakfast was empty. Most of the trays emand we had to wait for refills.

Even though it's a \"smaller\" property, it's a great place to stay simply because of how kind and friendly the staff are. Once they see you from the first day, they remember you and go out of their way to say hi and chat with you or even provide a little extra service. Our room was clean, the amenities were great and it was such a chill and relaxing trip. The food was pretty solid with the breakfast buffet and the seafood restaurant being the two if highly recommend. Would totally come back next year.
