When we Checked in the girl was only worried about upgrading our room and never mentioned where restaurants were located or if any events were happening that day. She did however give us an envelope saying there is a map in there in case you need it. The other girl next to us checking other people in, was explaining everything in detail so we picked up a couple of things from her. All the employees that cleaned rooms ,served food or drinks were very nice and helpful. We decided to book at this hotel because we saw on Tik Tok that it said it was just built in December 2025 but then when we arrived we could tell it was an older hotel. Supposedly they will go under renovation in April of 2026 per other guests there. Loved that in the lobby area they had a bar on one side and a coffee bar on the other , that was genius. There were only 2 elevators on both sides so sometimes it would take forever to get to lobby and pool areas. they had an activity or something fun to do each day or night so that was a plus.

I’ve stayed here over 10 times and it never gets old. If it’s your first time Cancún you cannot go wrong booking here. Nice rooms -awsome food & drinks that won’t get you sick & the beach is beautiful hotel is centrally located downtown easy shopping access and all the workers are very professional and will help you.

Keep in mind that this is my 18th trip to Cancun, almost all to different hotels, so I do know what I'm talking about. This hotel has some good points, but it was not among my top five. The rooms are clean, the check in was easy (they gave us a room early, and it had a beautiful view) and there are plenty of places to eat and drink. The heated pools are a real plus for us, because water can get cold in February, even in Cancun. The Italian restaurant was amazing. We could have eaten just the buffet part, but we ordered entrees as well, and they were delicious. The steakhouse is also an excellent choice. Oddly, we thought the Mexican restaurant was the weakest. Go figure. Now, the downside. During my 18 trips, I have encountered tremendous staff, going above and beyond. This was not the case here. Most staff were pleasant, but not all. They weren't rude, just not helpful, which leads to my next point. If the entertainment is important to you, skip this place. They shows were mediocre and sometimes boring. I have seen fabulous Michael Jackson shows. This one had a very large Michael Jackson who didn't move well and often forgot the words. In addition, they changed the schedule around without notification. One of the things I look to do is karaoke. I have special performances that audience often enjoy. After about 10 or so people asked if I would perform again, I told them yes, only to find the karaoke time had been moved. The entertainment director didn't seem to care.

The only truly great part of our stay at Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula was the employees. Every staff member we interacted with was kind, friendly, and clearly working hard to provide good service. Their hospitality was the highlight of the trip and the main reason this review isn’t lower. We were also there for a wedding, and I will say the wedding itself was very well organized and executed.
That said, many other aspects of the stay were disappointing. The grounds were clean and generally well maintained, but the experience didn’t live up to what you would expect from a luxury all-inclusive resort.
The food was mostly underwhelming. The breakfast buffet was actually quite good, but the rest of the food across the property was mediocre at best. The drinks were also extremely weak and often tasted watered down, which was disappointing for an all-inclusive resort.
Entertainment was also lacking. The theater appeared mostly unused during our stay, and there were very few shows or activities in the evenings. It made the resort feel quieter and less lively than expected.
Another issue was the constant presence of people around the property trying to sell things. We were approached repeatedly by vendors pushing souvenirs or services. Even more concerning, there were strange men approaching guests trying to talk them into buying drugs, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable and not something you expect at a resort like this.

I paid for an upgrade through Expedia and I also paid for another upgrading once I arrive because that Expedia showed were not room. Altogether I paid over $300 for a group review and never got that it literally is the same for you from the garden and the ocean. It should really be called a pool that’s all you get it. Other than that little issue, everything else was 10/10! The staff was amazing. The resort was beautiful. The food was not good, but I feel all inclusive have nasty food.

We had an ocean view room which was nice but I didn’t love being up on the 12th floor. Our room was clean and stocked well. The entire hotel was clean but the decor is outdated. We were informed on our arrival the hotel was closing in April for updates with makes sense.

The food was hit or miss. I can see why there are mixed reviews on that. The early morning selections in the sports bar were awful, everything was stale and gross like it had been sitting out literally all night. Once the main buffet opened it was great, a lot of delicious food to choose from. Some of the food left much to be desired, you just have to find the good stuff. I think that's to be expected at most all inclusive destinations though, not everything will be piping hot and fresh when you have a hundred dishes to choose from. Curb your expectations, you're going to an all inclusive, not a five star restaurant.

Some of the staff was very friendly and helpful, the outdoor waitstaff and buffet waitstaff were especially great. We had a fun photo shoot with Sophia (I believe was her name), who was great! But when we went to look at our photos in the gift shop we were just shown a QR code, which took us through a long and confusing process to set up an account to try to view our photos. I don’t know why they made this such a process but it was so annoying we just left without seeing the photos which was disappointing.

Overall a great stay, just a few minor changes would have made it better.

Easy check-in, friendly staff and surprisingly good food for an AI resort. Enjoyed being able to access newer adults only Riu Caribe next door to let loose and then come back to a more low-key atmosphere. First time in a long time I feel I may have got an Expedia upgrade room- rooms at end of hallway ending in 07 had the hot tub on the balcony- very nice!

Was locked out of my room and when I asked why they said someone one my room had popped by the pool and tried to charge us $300 . I asked for proof because we were sure no one did that and they kept saying I had to pay . After a good 40 min they said they had a picture and when they showed it to us the realized it wasn’t any of us. All they said it was a mistake and let us back in the room. The honestly ruins a whole day of vacation because they accused us infront of others . I felt so uncomfortable after Thai . Will not be coming back !

Dear Expedia Customer Service,

I am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction with the service and overall experience during our recent vacation package booked through Expedia for our stay at Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula in Cancun.

First, upon arrival we were charged $170 for a room upgrade. We were informed that this was necessary in order to receive a better room. However, we later learned that all rooms at the hotel feature balconies with ocean views. Two years ago, during our previous stay at the same property, we received a similar room without any additional charge. Therefore, we believe the $170 upgrade fee was unnecessary and unjustified.

Second, beginning Monday, the hotel started renovation work without any prior notice to guests. The noise was extremely loud and constant. It was impossible to relax or enjoy our vacation due to the excessive construction noise. Had we been informed in advance, we would have reconsidered our booking.

Additionally, during elevator repairs, access to one of the elevators was blocked, and a strong-smelling paint or chemical substance was used in the area. The odor was so intense that it was difficult to breathe. This created a very uncomfortable and unpleasant environment, especially considering we environment, especially considering we were there to отдых and relax.

We attempted to request a refund of the $170 upgrade fee due to these significant inconveniences. However, our request was denied, and we were

I wish I could give higher than five stars for the Rui Palace Peninsula and our time there. The service was amazing. The food was amazing. There was plenty of different options for entertainment. There are no bad room views, they are all incredible. It was impressively clean. Several different pool options, the beach was amazing and clean, and everyone was so nice. We will definitely be returning. The value to price could not be beat. Food choices were incredible, and there were no long waits at any of the different restaurants. I only wish the mattresses were a little softer. I would recommend this resort to any and all my family and friends.

It feels inappropriate that in such a beautiful and exclusive hotel you have to pay $3 for each game of pool. For this reason, I am unable to give it 5 stars.

We’ve stayed at several all-inclusives in Cancun and were excited to try Riu Palace Peninsula after hearing great things.

Arrival was disappointing. No one greeted us, and check-in felt transactional. I had emailed for months requesting king beds and asked about a possible upgrade. Our adult children received kings, but my husband and I were given doubles and told nothing else was available. I asked to be notified if something opened up, but never was — even though upgrades to others were offered the next day.

The lobby, restaurants, and grounds are beautiful, but the rooms feel worn and not 4- or 5-star quality. Sinks cracked. There was sand in our beds and on the floor the first night. Housekeeping corrected it the next day and was wonderful afterward.

Food was a highlight — especially the macaroons, ice cream, Krystal restaurant, buffet crepes, and even the French fries. Drinks tasted good but seemed diluted as our group drank quite a bit with minimal effects except with beer/wine.

The Super Bowl party was heavily promoted, but only commercials were playing until guests complained and the game was turned on at the coin toss. Many were upset.

Late checkout was $10 per hour per guest, and the front desk suggested I leave early for the airport despite having 4.5 hours.

Most staff (except front desk) were phenomenal. The hotel feels run down and in need of its upcoming remodel. Unfortunately, nearly our entire group got a stomach flu during or right after the trip.

We picked this place because we read the food was amazing… could not disagree more! The themed restaurants were a major disappointment. The food looked beautiful but lacked in flavor and repeatability. We did try room service. The options were bagged chips with canned nacho cheese, or 3 very depressing deli sandwich.
The room we got was not what we booked. We asked for a room with 2 beds and got a room with 1 bed. All other rooms were booked and changes could not be made.
The evening entertainment was all over the place from little to nothing available to many different things in 5-30 min time slots. By the time we went to join it was ending. If you like a club scene you may enjoy the party experience they offer here.
The only reason I couldn’t rate this lower is because the staff were truly kind and welcoming. The facility was clean, despite being able to see the wear and tear in the rooms, pool and public shared spaces. The beach was beautiful!! Nice sand, warm water, little to no seaweed. Definitely rocks on one side but they had a cleaner side for families and swimmers looking to climb in.

Large and super clean room. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food was really good. Drinks were great and I love the four-bottle alcohol dispenser in the room. You can pick your four bottles via the app. We did t use it much, but it was a nice touch.
The resort is smaller than we thought.
The entertainment team did a great job by offering engaging activities and great shows both at the pool and the theater after dinner.

Without a doubt, I had a great experience during my stay at the RIU Palace Peninsula. What stood out the most, was how immensely courteous, accommodating and pleasant all the staff was. From the initial check in process until the last minute after check out, the staff made sure it was a smooth and easy process for me. I have no complaints of the staff. Room was received and kept clean and tidy, with housekeeping doing daily rounds. Only complaint about the room, was the slow drainage in the shower. It allowed for water to accumulate very easily, allowing for soapy water to settle in the floor a long time after finishing one’s shower. There was a jacuzzi bath present in the room, however, I do not utilize it during my stay. Otherwise, room size was perfect. Staff always made sure to have the mini fridge stocked up without you having to alert them.Wished room service menu was more diversified since the options available were not the greatest. Otherwise, number of restaurants available at the premises were great. Loved that service was based on a first come first serve basis instead of making reservation days ahead. Pool service was phenomenal. Huge thank you to Montiel and Leo for the amazing service they provided to me the few days the weather allowed me to enjoy the pool.

Staff was very accommodating when ceiling leaked and was downgraded to top floor in villa. When bringing to their attention it was too difficult to constantly take those flights with an injured back, they upgraded to ground floor, which could not have been any better. So appreciative for the accommodation. Made our vacation extra special.
