Website stated they had car rental on site, they do not. Workers did absolutely nothing to help or to rectify this issue. Charge you $150 for 2 people to eat at the buffet if you didn’t choose “all inclusive”. Food was absolute TRASH. Like completely inedible. Didn’t have beach towels available in the am. I could’ve stayed at a 5 star resort for the cost of food and finding a car on my own.

Terrible experience, my wife's headphones were stolen from the room. We talked with the receptionist, even showed her that they were somewhere in the city (probably the maid's home) through the \"Find\" app. She basically shrugged and told us it wasn't their problem. The food is not good either, even for an all included. Avoid.

Yikes..this is not the kind of place I'd vacation on and we only ended up there because the travel agent put my sister there so I reserved the same place, but I wouldn't have pick this hotel myself.
Facilities: The hotel is OLD, the rooms are extremely outdated, dingy furniture, scratched/stained mirrors, mismatched tiles, terrible/horrible paint job, very thin sheets and thin and very scratchy and greyed out towels (although the beach towels were good). The room was clean however, but they use this very strong product that you can smell a mile away.. There's no vents so after a while the room feels stuffy and you have to open a window which has no screens nor protection. The bed was comfortable though and the AC always worked and the water temperature was good.
They should have the beach cleaned up daily from all the sargassum and the trash that people leave around, it was very unsavory to walk over the dried out debris to get to the water. . We were too close to the boarding dock of a commercial ferry which made us feel a bit unsafe and produced a lot of noise and there were too many random people with easy access. There was grafitti also on some of the retaining walls at the beach.
The food: I think the intention is to showcase Mexican food, but the quality of the food was below average. We spent Christmas' Eve there and were looking forward to a nice Mexican traditional feast but by 8pm most of the food was gone and entertainment was subpar.

Beach is full of poop feces being washed up from the ocean, resort is very old and ran down, buildings are hideous to the eye, they look like ghetto apartment buildings, pools are small, murky and ugly, our room was never cleaned, just bed made and towels changed. No entertainment at all, Spanish screaming at night which they believe is singing and it was really annoying. Most staff do not speak any English. No amenities, no drinks in the fridge, no coffee maker, one tiny buffet restaurant for the whole place and guests are allowed to enter in whatever clothing they wish any time of day, even in bathing suits at dinner. Not acceptable, no class. Beach has old worn down wood loungers, this is by far the worse place in the whole hotel zone.

I can’t say enough bad things about this place or about Expedias response to my problems. The door would not lock, no dead bolt or chain. The place was so nasty, I felt dirtier just getting in the bed. I wouldn’t have stayed but it was 11 pm when we got there and there was no where else to go. People were making noise all night. Then at 3 am the front desk sold our room to someone else because they hadn’t marked it as occupied. Someone came in my room at 3 am. Worst experience of my life. Please stay away. Remember if you have a problem Expedia will not help you.

We stayed here for 2 nights before staying on Isla Mujeres for 9 days. 2 nights here was too long. Old crumbling buildings and old rooms. Bathroom sink faucet was broken and barely worked. We asked 5x for clean towels and didn’t get them until my husband went down to the front desk and said he wasn’t leaving until he got them. Walls are paper thin and we could hear everything in the hallways and outside. There was a 3” space under the door so no noise control. Food was just ok and beach small and crowded. Would not recommend at all. Cesar the waiter was the only great thing about this place.

Upon arrival we found out that we indeed not only owe the balance we were under the impression of paying but that we had to pay more by $175 dollars. We went ahead with the check in and everyone here is very accommodating. The service is very friendly, food was good and the accesses here are wonderful. I would come here again, but through a different app so I wouldn’t be surprised with extra fees later.

I loved how incredible pretty the entire property was. So many palm trees, birds, flowers and directly at the beach. We liked. the restaurants and cozy atmosphere. The design of the pools and the privacy of the beach, it was not as overcrowded as for example playa Azul. We absolutely loved it, the staff was friendly and our room was nice and clean. great stay for the price

This a terrible place. The room looked horrible and the bed was so old and uncomfortable. The sheets were stained; I had to get them changed. This felt more like a motel, not an all inclusive hotel. The front desk staff, especially the man working the evening shift, was so rude! I would not recommend this place ever, especially if you are traveling with family. Such waste of a vacation.

Exactly what we wanted

This was exactly what we were looking for our family trip. We didn’t expect or want anything fancy because we planned to be out all day and just needed a comfortable place to shower and sleep. Our room was close to a bird area so it was a little annoying having them wake us up in the morning. But besides that the breakfast buffet was included in our booking and it was decent. The beds are not the most comfortable but the AC works amazingly. I would stay here again and recommend to someone looking for the same experience.

The pictures advertised are not an accurate depiction of this hotel. We booked 2 rooms with double beds - we arrived and were assigned a bed with 2 twin beds. The safe didn’t work, the door was broken, and the pillows had blood stains. The balcony wasn’t functional and overall the place was absolutely disgusting. There was a dead geico inside of the towel and multiple dead roaches on the ground.
On top of that, the service/staff were not accommodating at all. We had to pay even though we purchased the breakfast included package. Use caution when booking - though this place is cheap, it would be worth it to upgrade to a different hotel.

You get what you pay for.

Dos Playas was more than half the price of other all-inclusive hotels. The hotel grounds were nice and well kept, but the buildings were old, dirty and need work. The lower dining Room flooded when it rained. The bathroom shower head was built for people no taller than 5’5” and our room 3107 had mold or patchwork on the ceiling. We also had no hot water for a day and man came in and “jimmied” the sinks to make the hot shower water work-I had to do the same the day after. The buildings needed to be power washed and painted. The food was plenty and surprisingly good-drinks were ok. Beach was nice and location was great-next to ferry ($22) and a few minutes from downtown shopping area.

Worst Bed, Loud music, Friendly Staff

The bed was the worst I ever slept on in my whole life and I have been camping and slept in some DIVES. It felt like sleeping on a bed of rocks. Everything else was as I expected except the beach area was much better than I expected and really made it so much better. Breakfast was OK. Oh and they really should tell you befoer you check out that there will be BAD and LOUD music playing until 11:00 every night. Thank goodness we only were staying one night.

Its a smaller resort but very intimate. The restaurants, beach and pool is very close to each other. The bus stop, taxi and Ultramar ferry is just in front or beside the resort. The staff is very happy, pleasant, friendly and hard working. They do their best to make your stay enjoyable.

Right on the beach!

Great location. Beautiful beach! Turquoise water and soft sand. Be careful of the iguanas! They are harmless and roam freely around the area.

The Reception team were always willing to help. They have tour operators in the reception area to advise you on anywhere that you would like to visit. The entertainment team especially Joseph and Mones are great at getting everybody involved no matter what your interests are. They really made our holiday special.

Hotel is in need of improvements. They had ongoing repairs during our stay which did not effect our holiday. Fixtures and fittings are dated, mosquito door net broken, taps were leaky and full of limescale. We did not spend much time in the room so it didn't bother us. On our first night we asked to swap our room for a room with a balcony and they happily accommodated our request. When the room was cleaned, the floor and bed was made beautifully.

Hot food was served tipid. The food was average, selection was ok. The made to order omelettes, fresh fruits and waffles during breakfast were tasty.

Improvements which the hotel should consider are better internet connection which doesn't keep cutting off, would be even better to have Internet in the rooms and not just in the reception area. Also a good idea to have a little kettle for tea/coffee in the rooms. Would be nice to have a hot drink when the restaurant is closed and the hot drinks machine at reception is only turned on at certain times.

Did not go smoothly

Did not start well, did not have the bed type we booked, room ready but waited 30 min for a bellboy, safe in room did not work after security tried to fix it, had to use safe at front desk. Told us they did not have a room with a king bed but after complaining to Guest Services about the above listed problems and the fact that their specialty restaurant was closed the two nights we were there, they magically found one. In the rush of moving from original room to new room, forgot coat and jeans in original room. By the time we realized this there was no finding out items - our fault but a better hotel might have tracked us down. Someone is wearing a nice new pair of jeans and a nice new jacket while we froze traveling back to Chicago without these items.

It was awesome stay!.

We actually don't spend that much time at the hotel, because we wanted to know CANCUN, but, the food was awesome. The employees are awesome and they help you out every time that you need. The hotel has it's hours to provide the food they stop serving breakfast at 10 AM, lunch at 3 PM and dinner around 10:30 PM, I believe, but, they always have pizza and hot dogs and all that by the pool. It's not expensive because it's not a luxury hotel. It's clean and comfortable. You can actually walk to the tours vendor and to the Oxxo store. The pharmacy's near also.

Beautiful outdoor area and extremely friendly staff, but the room needed a lot of work. The sheets on our king bed were the incorrect size so they kept slipping off. Had to ask for the correct size, but was still given sheets that didn't fit correctly. A few lights were out. I had to ask a few times for new shampoo. The food in the restaurant was good, but service was bad as most residences had all inclusive and went straight to the buffet. We ordered off the menu and typically had extremely slow service.

We had issues from the start with this hotel. The staff in the lobby was rude when checking in, having an attitude because we didnt have a voucher, when he could have just checked his desk and saw our reservation right there. WE had 3 adults staying and they put us in a room with 1 king bed, clearly not logical. Wifi was terrible, our rooms were a disaster, gross and outdated. No towels in the room either, have to ask the lobby each time. Our AC, toilet and tv were not functioning when we went to the lobby (phone didnt work either) they were going to send someone and never did. No hot water to take a shower, or you have to wait 30 min when going down to the lobby.

We took the breakfast included package, which was awful, restaurant was dirty, food was old and disgusting.

Everything takes 20-30 min wait -or no one comes at all.

Do your self a favor and dont book this hotel, it deserves 0 stars, no where close to 3.

1.5 stars not a 3 star resort

First. The room has nothing. No fridge no coffee maker no microwave plan all yur meals to be out, the hotel staff gave me a broken iron to iron a dress that well I couldnt iron. The bathroom had roaches. Beat up old furniture and red paint on the wall from missed brush strokes...it serioulsy would take very little cash to spruce up the room. The floor was all tile which is not what I like. There's no hand towels no washcloths and no hair conditioner provided. Im used to a little more than what I got even for Mexico. The AC is controlled not to go lower than about 76 to 78 which is not the best. The bed was so hard I tossed and turned all night. The staff doesn't speak english. Only the desk clerks do. The pool area smelled like urine. And the lawn furniture looked like it was about 20yrs old run down. The buffet/food breakfast was about 18$ for me and my son it was ok but juice machine kept breaking down and the resort location was good. Those are the only good things I will say. The paper pamphlet you get at check in was not good made dining very confusing with times and location no signs turned out the main buffet restaurant had a cheaper menu to order from but walking in no one will ask you or show you. Found this out the last day. Sad. Just all around sad resort. I got discount after watching internet prices for this resort thank God if I had to pay full price I would have been very upset.

ONLY GOOD THINK IS THAT ITS CLOSE TO THE BEACH

MY EXPERINCE WITH THIS HOTEL WAS HORRIBLE SINCE DAY 1. AFTER CHECKING IN TO WHAT WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A (1 KING SIZE BED ROOM) THEY SENT ME TO A ROOM THAT HAD TO SMALL TINY NOISY BEDS. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE FRONT DESK AND TOLD THEM THAT WAS NOT THE ROOM I HAD BOOKED/REQUESTED. THEY THEN SAID OH WELL WE HAVE NO OTHER ROOMS FOR TONIGHT \"WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO CHANGE YOU ROOMS TOMORROW\". THANK GOD FOR MY FRIEND BEING THERE WE WALKED TO THE FRONT LOBBY AND DEMANDED THE ROOM WE HAD BOOKED WITH THE 1 KING SIZE BED OR EXPECTED TO BE UPGRADED FOR FREE. SOMEHOW THEN THE FRONT DESK HAD A ROOM WITH A KING SIZE BED. THIS NEW ROOM WAS \"OK\" BUT OLD AND OUTDATED.

THE A/C IS THE ROOM DID NOT WORK. IT DIDNT DROP THE TEMP IN THE ROOM AT ALL. WE SWEATED ALL NIGHT.

ONE OF THE MORNINGS MY FRIEND AND I WENT FOR COFFEE. HE GOT A CUP OF COFFEE THINKING IT WOULD BE COMP -NO- NOT ONLY IT WASN'T COMP BUT GOT CHARGED TWICE FOR PRESSING THERE BUTTON \"TWICE\" WHITCH STILL DIDN'T FILL UP THE SMALL STIREFOAM CUP.

WHEN CHECKING OUT WE HAD A SHUTTLE COME PICK US UP AT THE LOBBY TO TAKE US TO THE AIRPORT. THIS HAD ALREADY BEEN ARRANGED DAYS PRIOR WITH THE FRONT DESK. DAY OF, IT WAS 350 WHEN THE SHUTTLE WAS SUPPOSE TO ARRIVE AT 330. ASKED THE FRONT DESK HE SAID HE REALLY \"HAD NO IDEA HOW THAT PROCESS WORKED\" AND THAT HE ALSO HOPED THE SHUTTLE WOULD SHOW UP. SO STRESSFUL.

DON'T BRING YOUR MONEY TO THIS HOTEL. DO YOUR RESEARCH. VERY UNSATISFIED. SHOULD BE AVAILABLE ON EXPEDIA.

Simple but enjoyable

This was my second stay at Dos Playas. The only reason I'm giving a 3 rating instead of a 4 was because there was a lot of construction going on which was noisy. But I love that they have their own small beaches and provide recliners and the location is nice - away from the busy major resorts.

On August 4, upon arriving at this hotel and saw the reception area, I was so taken aback with disappointment. The place smells awful and looks like a ghost town .Fortunately for me the hotel was under construction so they had a van waiting to transport me to Cancun Bay Hotel. I was told that this is a better place but to me it was a 0.5 star hotel. So if this is considered a better hotel am glad I did not get the chance to venture inside. Grace

Be careful

It is many hotels in one. If you booked at Dos Playas, make sure you stay in one of their condos and nor a bungalow way in the back. They'll try to throw you back there if they're over booked and it's not maintained or well taken care of. If you have luggage it's a 15min walk through the bumpiest dirt road pulling your suitcase was a mission. The breakfast buffet is amazing. The beach is clean and so beautiful in this part. The pool faces the beach super clean and beautiful. They rooms not so great I would compare to a motel 6. That night our power went out, we had no Ac, light, couldn't sleep it was too hot. Staying here is a hit or miss. I love traveling. I'm not picky at all I'll stay anywhere but this place was not too good. Just make sure they don't stick you in a bungalow if your reso says Dos Playas you make sure at check in you tell them you want to stay on the property you booked at Not a sister property. They will charge you 99$ even if you decide not to stay, happened to us.

Very rude staff, rooms dirty, hard bed and bugs

My experience here almost ruined my vacation, I ordered my room online and made some changes, when I said that they had the wrong price, the person at the front desk ,said either I pay or check out. I had my daughter with me and I had to make sure that she didn't see that I was upset.This is the worst experience with a hotel, and I will never recommend this to anyone. The rooms were small ,the beds hard the pictures that were on the internet must be from a different place. , nothing looked like them

Fraud, don't stay here

When we arrived at the hotel they didn't speak much English. We payed to get Wi-Fi but it didn't work and when we tried to tell them they just yelled at us. The rooms are not as nice as in the pictures. Restaurant is expensive. The sunbeds are nice with a good ocean view but the beach is dirty and not nice to stay at. When we left the hotel the manager told us that the Expedia hadn't transferred the money from us to them yet, so we couldn't check out and we almost lost our flight. This should be a matter between the two companies - not the guests who have already payed. Overall an okay hotel but NOT worth the money.

Not worth a penny

I read reviews before I went but i figured since it was on beach and next to isla mujeres ferry it would be okay for night. The only had one king bed left and it was on ground floor and smelled horrible. I mean horrible. I asked to speak to manager...no manager on site. We decided not to spend last night upset and make the best of it. The pool area n beds by beach only thing that wasn't terrible. Plus too far from shopping area to walk but buses get you there in less than 5 minutes. I wish I just stayed at Beach scape kin ha villas again. Its closer to shops.

Great location, lot of activities, great price for all inclusive package, friendly staff, free wifi by the pool and in restaurant, hotel rooms need reconstruction , we moved 3x to a different room because air condition stopped working, but generally we were satisfied with our stay because we spent most of the time outside, not in our room

Private beach but wouldn't return

The back of the house staff was fabulous they were very helpful the rooms were left very clean, but the reception are was not so friendly. The 1st day there they overbooked so they sent us to another property to stay the 1st night. The actual facilities was a bit disappointing, 2 days there was no water for a while each day and we weren't given towels some days because they ran out or were being washed. Whenever we tried to call reception they wouldn't answer.

booked through RTX exchange. The lobby check -in is filthy. There is a trash can against one wall to catch water that is leaking from ceiling, full of mold. Looks like it's been there a while. We were given rm 303. Totally gross. Dead bugs, thin sheets, no light in bathroom, torn plastic shower curtain, no working phone, no lock on door. No hangers in closet, no working safe, no bed lamps and air conditioner barely kept the room bareably. Front desk rude. Left as soon as we could get other accommodations. We paid 907.00 for 3 nights

Old Budget Type Hotel

No towels in room. Had to ask four times. Airconditioner was in the wall and very old, rusty and noisy. Had to have 'key' in slot in room to have power on. Had to pay for Wi-Fi, but didn't work in room, had to go outside.

Close to the bus

For room only you are still \"branded\" with a wristband whilst staying here and there are no local restaurants or bars other than the one on site which also services the all inclusive guests. The close bus stop enables travel to the city centre or further down the hotel strip to better served areas.

Not worth a cent

The first room we stayed in had no phone, the TV did not work well, the toilet did not work well, and there was no towels in the room. We asked to change rooms, which could only be done by the manager. The following day, the manager asked us to wait until 11am to change rooms. When we went to pick up our key, without looking up from his computer at any moment, he told us the room would not be available until 1 pm. The room we were given was half the size of our previous room, the AC did not work, and there was no electricity outside of the bathroom. We were asked to switch rooms again. This whole ordeal took a whole day, we were able to settle into the our room until 5 pm. The manger, Miguel should not be working in this industry. He has absolutely no people skills. The rest of the personnel, particularly Andres who took personal interest in making sure we were taken care of, made our stay somewhat worthwhile.

Poorly maintained property.

My reservation specified a room with a balcony or patio. What I got was a room about the size of a postage stamp with no balcony or patio. That in of it's self turned out to be a mote point as I had to leave after one night due to a medical emergency that required me to return to the US on the first available Flt. on 5/30. If they try to charge me for the other 2 nights, I will contest the bill through MasterCard.

Worst hotel my family and I have stayed at

Each year my family & I travel so, we are familiar w/ hotels. Upon our check-in, us along w/ 3 diff. families were told by staff that the \"computers crashed & there was a pipe burst\" unfortunately they could not accommodate us until 3am or we had the option to go to another hotel where we could stay completely for free as well as breakfast was free for the rest of our stay. My family & I decided to go to another hotel which was fine. The next morning @10am, we contacted Dos Mujers to see if our rooms were ready, they confirmed with us that it was a go. However, upon our arrival they stated that our rooms were not ready until 12pm but we could go & enjoy their buffet breakfast. We did & @12pm we again were told that our rooms were not ready till 1pm. Therefore, we waited another hr. to find out that only one room was available & the next room would not be available til 3pm. We were frustrated because we were still carrying our luggage & lost 2 days of vacation. Once 3pm arrived, the 2nd rm was a nightmare! It was not clean their sheets, mirrors, windows, and floors were not fully cleaned. Furthermore, it was not the room we requested at our booking w/Expedia. We received 1 twin bed with a full bed (we asked for a king bed to both rooms). I had brought it to the staff atten. when the manager yelled at my family member only to say that our requests are only requests and that they do not have control of what rooms are available because Expedia is the one who controls it.

THREE TIMES LUCKY

We were sorely disappointed in the lack of hospitality at this hotel. We were shown a room that I wouldnt even put my suitcase down. They then gave us a room where the bed was broken where we slept for the night as they said they would move us the next day.

The next day when we came back after sightseeing there was a pile of rubbish outside the room which they refused to move until the next day.

Both these rooms were on the upper floors and I had requested a ground floor room from the start. Eventually we moved to the ground floor with a pleasant seating area outside to enjoy the views. HAD THEY DONE THIS FROM THE START MY REVIEW WOULD BE ENTIRELY DIFFERENT.

There were also loud parties going on below us and the bar staff were out to make every penny out of you they could. You also had to pay for the internet service.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel during our spring break trip. It was rated three stars so we were not expecting a lot, but was intently disappointed with a majority of our stay (thankfully we only had to sleep there). Attempting to get towels brought to your room is an extremely annoying task seeming how you have to call 4 to 5 times to receive them. The hotel does not allow any outside food or drink on the hotel premises, which is absolutely ridiculous if you ask me. The hotel solely wants you to eat at their over priced and disgusting buffet, which is only open during certain time of the day. I can say that there was a nice area to lay out on grass as well as nice swimming pools, but the beach access is fairly minimal and I would suggest taking the bus down the street a few stops, finding an open beach access, and accessing the beach that way. Hope this helps!

I wanted a room and a beach and thats what I got! When I checked in and had to wait 4 hours for towels. I have been to Mexico about 40 times and this place was not the friendly as others. The restaurant was a bit over priced. But I was In Mexico and thats what counts!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!

They had lost our booking, and set us up with one of their buddies. Literally worst experience ever, we were put in a filthy room with BUGS!! Also, no window to open and one could barely breathe, it smelled of mold and dust. There was exposed rust on the toilet, and counter tops. Did not want to touch blankets. This is located on a major highway. I took photos of everything and I shall post on tripadvisor. Please do not stay here!!
