We were 1st put in a room that is seldome used, not serviced by the elevator and gave the impression you were in a 3rd world country. Stayed night, complained to Expedia, they had us moved even though they were fully booked. Be careful when booking, confirm your room is serviced by the elevator, that way you can be sure your room is good.

Terrible experience. Beds are hard, not comfortable at all. Stained towels inside the room and the ones for the pool, stained bed sheets. They want to charge you for everything. Our room was on the fourth floor and the elevator was not in service. They told us that they were fixing it, but that never happened. We never saw anybody working on the elevator, and we stayed there for 8 nights. Very bad water pressure. I would not recommend anybody to stay in this hotel.

My husband uses a cane to walk, the Elevators were not working the 6 days we were in hotel.
Other than that the Ladies at the Front office were very hospitable, friendly & very nice.
Maria is an awesome singer. We loved her voice when she sang at the restaurant next door!
I highly recommend this Hotel!

The property needs some renovation to make it a bit more modern. We were given stained towels upon arrival. The area is on a very busy street with traffic sounds all night. I appreciate the fact that the hotel is near shopping and many dining options.

Bad service, all the employees say talk to the manager the manager but they’re never there.

Broken elevator, yet no signs of fixing it. We were there over a week and no-one worked on it.

Cleaning workers walked into our room when there was a do not disturb sign.

Towels are a big issue. The towels they give you are stained, but when they exchange them they say you caused the stains and want to charge you.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Hotel was great for what we needed … a place to sleep! Could use some minor maintenance! But all was good! There was a sewer smell in room when we arrived but it was just the cover on the shower drain was not put on! Once we did that the smell went away and did not notice it again! Again great place for what we needed! Would stay again! Close to 5th avenue which is fun! And close to beach! Price was great!

I booked this hotel through Expedia since the pictures seemed like it would be a good and affordable place to stay in Playa del Carmen. Upon arrival we noticed it was not nice at all… stained pillows. Stained bed sheets. Stained curtains. Sticky floors. Dirty bathroom. Dead cockroaches in the hallways that the cleaners wouldn’t clean. And the worst part of it all was that our room smelled of sewer water. We tried to ask for a room change and got told flat out that we couldn’t change and they couldn’t offer any other help other than “sending the cleaning lady”. We ended up leaving after just one night due to the horrible smell that would wake us up at night and was making us sick to our stomach. We tried getting a refund and got flat out told no. This hotel was not what was advertised. The general manager would refuse to give his face and kept saying he was busy. Now I’m out money for a hotel we couldn’t stay in due to it being unsanitary.

Great little place for the price. Close to 5th avenue but was not loud at night. Beds were firm yes, but comfortable. Cleanliness and water pressuer/heat was good.

My only recomendation would be for the restaurant to get a longer playlist. I loved the little music wafting through the courtyard as I sat on the balcony on the first day. By the 5th day of hearing the same songs 3 times a day it was kinda annoying.

That said, I've stayed at other places in Playa and this really hits the mark for quality, quiet and price. Would stay here again.

According to Expedia and my reservation, this property has a gym. There is no gym. There has never been a gym at this property.
There was a strong smell of cleaning chemicals in the room when i entered. I got a headache. Used ceiling fan. Better in 2 hours.
Mold on the bathroom ceiling above shower head. Otherwise it's a nice property in a good place.

First I’ll start with the pros for this property. The location is great. Walking distance to the beach, shopping and many restaurants / bars. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Someone is at the front desk all night. There is a restaurant on site but I did not utilize is. Same goes for the pool. It looked clean and refreshing but I did not utilize it. Wifi was great. The cons. Elevator was broken and appears to have been broken for awhile. Our room was on the 4th floor. Dragging suitcases up and down was a nightmare. Also, hotel had no hot water. They said that was also broken. Cold showers the entire stay. The bed was the worst thing about the room. It was as if they placed a sheet on top of a slab of concrete. I would of been better off sleeping on the tile floor or in a lounger by the pool. You will need a chiropractor when you leave. The building is old and needs a lot of work done. The headboard was cloth and was covered in stains. The a/c unit had water dripping from it onto the night stand all night. Bathroom is tiny and door barely stays latched. Parking is on the street at a meter. The meter only takes coins in pesos and the hotel doesn’t assist with providing the change. We had to walk to an exchange place and get coins and hope while we were waiting in line we didn’t get a ticket or towed. I will never stay at this property again. There are many hotels in the area. Find a other one.

Excellent location, convenient to everything. Nice room with nice patio overlooking the pool. However it got noisy at times, sometimes very late. Pool supposed to be closed at 10pm, but most nights people were swimming and making noise (sometimes LOTS of noise even at 1am).

Hotel restaurant had bad habit of playing annoying loud dance club techno music, sometimes after 10pm. I don't understand how anybody would want to eat there it was so loud. They would sometimes turn the music down when more people were eating there. If you like to go to bed early so you can get up early for diving or other adventures, this may not be the best place.

Good AC once you figure out how to use it. Bed was not very comfortable. Water pressure in my room shower was so terrible I used the shower by the pool.

Service was friendly enough. There's an elevator, which is nice if you have a lot of luggage or have a hard time with stairs. Overall, needs some improvement, but decent budget accommodations in a convenient location.

I liked the location & felt safe . The BIGGEST ISSUE we had wrre the MATTRESES.... you can actually touch & feel the metal springs. The springs were digging in our hips & back. Could Not get comfortable. A MUST is BUY comfortable Mattresses or you will lose business. Pillows need to soft..our pillows felt like tennus balls in them.A Toilet paper holder is a must. A couple of hooks nneded to hang towels & for clothes when dressing. Refrigerator wasn't working or outlet in sink area didnt work.
These items should be checked prior to a person coming in. Just so people are Comfortable their whole stay.

The hotel was in a good location for shopping 5th avenue, the hotel has potential, atmosphere is good, but the king bed was rock hard with no give, only came with two small pillows and the front desk doesnt have any extra pillows or blankets to offer. The continental breakfast is really basic and the ham & cheese is sliced about as thin as you possibly could, and they use a griddle as a toaster so you have to wait for 15 minutes to get a piece of toast.

My only gripe was that the shower head was angled in such a way that it was impossible to use the shower without flooding the bathroom (and some of the bedroom), which I think contributed to the persistent smell of mildew in our room. Older hotel in the center of Playa Del Carmen

This is an older hotel that happens to be in a good location but has been a little neglected. It has not changed much in the past few years. It offers budget accommodation in a good location. The rooms are basic with a bit drab décor. The rooms do have a balcony facing the central courtyard where there is a pool. The bathrooms do not have exhaust fans, so mold and humidity are a problem in the bathrooms.

Front desk could be a little more friendly. When I told them we had 2 towels for 5 people the woman said they were \"out.\" The next morning when I told the desk at first they didn't believe me, then he did me the favor of getting them and handed me two. I said,\"we are five people and we only have 2 towels\" and he said, \"no you told me you needed two\". Really? I am going to have to beg for one towel a person?

Everything was an old and amortized.Bed uncomfartable, towels very old, rooms were somewhat clean but cheaply made and amortized.Mexican style batroom, the sink was at 1.20cm high, the shower was rusty and not moving in any direction. Small flattv wihout HD channels only local free chanels.Pool was dirty.But the breakfast was the biggest ever joke i have seen.
The lady on the reception looked like she was not happy to be there or she was stressed out. No wonder she was alwyas there. I asked her for money exchange, she told me that there was only one near by but opened after 9am, turned out 50m from the hotel there was one opened 24 hours. The good things: good location.

Lack of parking as my first time not aware of one way street and back to the hotel I found one spot and park the rental as others cars were park in the same direction. Next day a parking citation was left and we almost missed our flight and thank God Payless Auto rentals help us to take care of it. Great inconvenience for lack of hotel parking . It’s a really nice hotel, only 3 blocks away from the beach, & 1 block away from a long strip where most tourists walk for restaurants, shopping, & entertainment. The only thing was the floor was dirty & sticky so I couldn’t walk barefoot in our hotel room but other than that, the staff was great & its a perfect hotel if all you need it for is to sleep & get ready.

I didn’t prefer this hotel. I didn’t feel very welcomed when I arrived. One air conditioner didn’t work in our double room so we had to leave the doors open so the others wouldn’t die from the heat and the continental breakfast that was suppose to be included was rather poor, mainly because there was nothing left when we got there at 930am. We had to wait a long time for anything to be replenished and we waited for probably 20-25 mins before anything started to come out again. Slim pickings! I was so hungry and tired of waiting I ended ordering off the menu and had to pay then once I did that and my food came they replenished the breakfast items that were suppose to be included and the breakfast I ordered wasn’t very good. I personally will not be going back.

Was a nice hotel is the best way to describe it.

Nice staff, room was decent. Good size and clean. Nice swimming pool. Breakfast was a little poor in my opinion - quite basic.

Elevator didn't work so had to take 2 heavy suitcases up 2 flights of stairs.

The room has everything you need though.

Location is fantastic. Close to boulevard with nightlife and lots of shops, restaurants etc. Beach is a 5min walk.

Would recommend it if you are looking for a slightly budgeted hotel stay.

Rooms were clean, bed was comfortable (I like mine a little on the harder side), staff were nice, and the pool area was very nice. Great location - close to everything, quick 5 minute walk to the beach and Mamita's Beach Club. But there were two main things I didn't like. 1. How loud it was in the room - we could hear the music from the restaurant attached to the hotel, when they dragged the tables and chairs at closing time (midnight), and the vehicles on the street. 2. The layout of the hotel room made it difficult for two people to get ready. There also wasn't enough room to hang up or put away your clothes and store your luggage, nor anywhere comfortable to sit besides the bed or on the patio/balcony. I would stay here again though if the price was right.

This was a last minute trip as we missed the ferry to Cozumel. It was nice that the room was available to us but it was very run down and there was a door that connected to another room (which had a mattress stuffed in it) and only a small latch for protection. We were able to sleep for a couple of hours. The breakfast was fresh fruit and cold cuts. Check in and check out employees were very nice and courteous.

Excellent little hotel - not so excellent room

I love staying here. The staff are friendly and very helpful, and the hotel itself is close to EVERYTHING -- three or four blocks to the beach and a block away from the shops and restaurants along Fifth Street.

A few very minor critiques -- very minor one when taking everything else into consideration:

-- I stayed in Room #210, which is set away from the rest of the hotel. It seems like it was added after everything else was built. You have to walk through the pool area and up a flight of rickety wooden stairs.

-- The \"door\" to my room was a glass sliding door, and I was given a key that looked like a modified drill-bit. I had to jimmy the drill-bit key into a hole that was drilled near the latch.

-- The door to the bathroom, which kept hitting the nightstand next to the bed, is a glass shower door.

-- Water pressure to the shower and bathroom sink was erratic and often slowed to a drip.

Took some getting used to, but everything worked out okay. Felt like coming home after a while.

Got two rooms ( not what I reserved, both rooms flooded.?one flooded in the bathroom, the other flooded everywhere. Water poured out of the closet, water coming down the walls, actually flooded into the hallway. My daughter spent 2 nights in a room with 3 inches standing water. I came 2 days later and my room was like being on a sinking boat. Was ridiculous, I don't recommend, I would never come back. The staff were nice but walked around not knowing what to do just smiling and nodding. Was the worst.

Charming boutique hotel close to everything

This is a lovely small hotel just off fifth avenue close to beach and restaurants with a calm courtyard and pool and friendly staff. A favorite place to soak in Mexican sun, food, hospitality, friendliness, sea. I always feel like I'm at a spa when here. Enjoy!

We just completed a two week stay at the Hotel Riviera Caribe Maya. The stay began with them trying to put us in a tiny room with one queen (at best) bed instead of the king size bed with a balcony that we had booked and paid for. They did move us after we complained but said they assign rooms on first come first serve basis not on what was booked. The room was small smelled moldy and actually had what appeared to be black mold growing on the wall in the bathroom. The grout on the tiles in the shower were also blackish looking, dirt or mold I'm not sure. The grout by the cracked up sink was black and had rotted through so there was holes. The bed was very hard and we only got one small old scratchy blanket that covered only half the bed. I had to use a towel to cover my shoulders. The sheets were stained. They never replaced any toiletries so we bought out own soap. The Orbitz site I booked on said the round transportation from the airport to the hotel would cost 1500 pesos but actually cost $140.00 USD cash only. The pool area had some nice plants but was also not very clean. The best part about the hotel was the location which was close to the beach club and 5th Ave.

Decent enough place. A block away from all the restaurants and shops on 5th Street and not more than a 10 minute walk to the beach. The staff was friendly and helpful and even allowed me to check-in hours earlier than the 3pm check-in time.

The room was clean and comfortable. Rooms are equipped with both air-conditioners and ceiling fans. Kept everything nice and cool.

The only criticism I have is their Internet access. Wifi is free and my connection was good even up on the third floor, but it was consistently too slow to be of any use. Too many timeouts and retries. They may need to upgrade their router hardware and/or bandwidth connection to their ISP.

again. Location could not be more perfect, close to everything you want to see in Playa Del Carmen. The rooms were cozy and fresh. There is an Oxxo right next to the place for your convenience. Everything is Old, Front Desk staff could care less,
Walls in Bathroom were dirty. Toilet barely worked
Shower very dingy and dirty and it was missing tiles in the shower floor.
It seems Cheap tickets and Expedia are the same and they must give this room to people that book through them because I've read reviews stating the same thing and I believe it's room 209.
After you sweat all day you want hot water to clean your body.
Also I ask for wash clothes but did not get any and the towels are all falling apart, rooms are too small
The Bed has a 3 inch mattress on it and the coils in the bed hurt.
It's really not a queen bed per USA standards
But if your short your feet want stick off the end of the bed.

Perfect location for the relaxed traveller.

Although the hotel is a little dated, the ambience and service of the hotel is excellent. The staff are very happy to help and remember guests by name. There is a pool and good internet service. Located close to the hotel is the main beach 'Mamita', good restaurants and shops for tourists. Next to the hotel is also a laundry and supermarket. I was extremely pleased with my experience. My friends were permitted to visit with no complaints. I only had some concerns with the pressure of the water, but this was fine when everything else was so good.

Decent hotel relatively close to beach

We stayed three nights and were quote happy. The hotel is in need of some maintenance but for the price we paid we were satisfied. The bidet was cracked, the hair blower was missing from its spot on the bathroom wall, there was only one chair on the balcony. Also, there was no complementary water bottles. BUT, the room was very clean and comfortable and big!!

It had some noise through the stay but not beyond bearable. I think some is expected in Playa. Service is very good. Get towels and beach chair coupons at the front desk. Ask for suggestions and eat in the restaurants off 30th Ave.

Great location, perfect spot for PDC.

Great little boutique hotel in the heart of PDC , clean, comfortable and priced nicely. Would go back or recommend this hotel, very clean and well staffed for Mexican standards. In room coffee or lobby coffee would have been the prefect touch.

Great location near 5th Avenue

I arrived into the ADO station around 9.30 and initially thought I would walk to the hotel but quickly realised a taxi for all my bags would be easier! Probably 15-20 minute walk with no bags.
Really friendly and quick check in, given a great recommendation for local Mexican food.
Only stayed one night but would recommend based on location, friendly staff and clean rooms.

The hotel is fine. But if you plan to go soon, be aware that there is a lot of noise from the construction site in front of the hotel starting at 8am every morning (January 2016). Apart from that we liked our stay.

Overpriced and very noisy!!!

Condition of hotel was run down compared to visits there several years ago. My 100$ room should have been 50$. Will not stay there again! Very noisy too!

This hotel is a good place to stay for a night or two. The bed was a little hard and the amenities are basic. The shower was pretty good. Wished they would provide a couple more hand towels.

In our haste to leave, we left behind two jackets in the closet and when we called the front desk two days later to get them back, the front desk said that nothing was left behind after checking with housekeeping. They checked with the guest that was staying in the room as well. So either housekeeping is lying or the guest is but in any case we learned our lesson.

Enjoyed the service from staff and upgrade I received with ought even asking for one. I went solo so they tried to assist me with stuff or places to go and do or restaurants to go eat at. Also helped me with tips for cheaper transportation.

A tired, grubby hotel -- checked out immediately

Very disappointing hotel. We booked on Expedia and risked the no-cancellation policy. The room had mosquitos, the toilet underside was not cleaned properly and the bed was a very old full mattress rather than a King as advertised. You could feel the springs in the mattress. There were two power outlets in the room for the bedside lamps ; the rest had been sealed off. Concerned about bed bugs, I asked for another room. They had a master suite available for a modest additional charge and although much roomier with two rooms, the a/c did not work in the one we chose and it had the same tired look with missing pieces on the tub -- basically a similar effect to a 'bull in a china shop'.

We checked out and went to another (much newer) hotel which had a different set of problems but was newer, cleaner and cost about the same. Lesson learned -- will not book last-minute hotels without looking at the room first.

Very disappointed.

PROS: The staff was very nice and helpful and room was cleaned every day. A few minutes from the beach and shops and restaurants.

CONS: Cold pool. Cold showers/no hot water, uncomfortable bed, old TV, bad Wi-Fi connection, toilet seat was broken. Even the toilet paper holder needed to be replaced. Everything in this place is outdated for the price.

No wifi in room and major construction noise acros

Well upon arriving hotel seemed very quaint and inviting. We were assigned in a room on the 3rd floor right at the end of the corridor. Quite the hike with suitcases up the staircase and no one avila le to assist. The room was cute but tiny. The biggest disappointment was no wifi in the room. Very very disappointing. They have 3 different addresses on site but no internet! In the morning we were awaken by major construction noise from across the street!!!
