Do not ever stay here! In the middle of the night on our first night of our holiday, our room began flooding in the bathroom at 3 am, I went to find management and found another guest in the room below whose room was flooding as well, we needed to shut off all water, and they had to clean and mop the extensive flooding, and didn’t give us another room. We were up until 5am, and the next morning we had no water, couldn’t flush our toilet, take a poop, take a shower or brush our teeth. The so called “Manager” refused to compensate us anything for the atrocious service. I can understand things happen, but I cannot accept a “Manager” of a claimed 4 star hotel, is so inept at her job as to not compensate even something reasonable for the lack of service and inability to sleep through the night. I’ve never experienced such terrible service and no guest should ever be subject to managerial incompetence when such an extreme disruption of service occurs. Beware or Soho Playa! Please note, this is first negative review I’ve ever posted anywhere in the world so take that to heart. If you claim to be a hostel ok, but if you claim to be a 4 star hotel have competent management and act like it! Shame on you SoHo Playa. You should terminate your Manager. She is not up to the job!

The hotel has past its prime. It needs better infrastructure and housekeeping.
We had to request towels, soap and toilet paper almost daily even when leaving tips for housekeeping on a daily basis, and not just for the room, but for the lobby and pool areas.
Needs improvements for sure.

The hotel is very clean. Staff are exceptionally nice and very helpful. Everyone speaks English. They work hard to keep the hotel maintained, though you may experience a couple of very minor issues. I would like to correct a prior review regarding the hotel not offering blankets, that is not correct. yes, when you check in there will be no blanket on your bed and there will be no blow dryer in your bathroom however, if you ask at the desk, they will provide you with both but you have to ask for them.

This property is only a few short steps to 5th ave. And a BLOCK from an OXXO. The hotel has an artistic feel with artwork from local artist that are available for sale. A massive water fall in the lobby. The lobby is an open air lobby. So no air conditioning. Which is why they received a 4 instead of a 5. My patents are older and they are visiting and the heat is hard on them. While waiting in the lobby with no air conditioning. It was a bit hard for them. The rooms are clean and spacious, hotel is close to food, shopping and the beach. Will be back for sure.

Vraiment pas représentatif des photos montrées sur le site. Piscine non fonctionnelle et sans aucun entretien. Pas d'eau dans le spa depuis des semaines ou des mois. Seulement deux chaises longues sur le rooftop très inconfortable, les quelques plantes présentes sur le toit jamais arrosé... Plancher sur le toit jamais nettoyer, très sale. Aller ailleurs!

My wife and daughters had stayed here 6 years ago and wanted to return. That was a mistake.

The good:
- Convenient location
- Good water pressure
- Nice artwork in the lobby

The meh:
- Nothing but Spanish channels on TV and no way to connect our phones to stream to the TV when we were unwinding from the day.

The bad:
- A/C was horrible. When we got to the room, the A/C was off. We turned it on but the room did not cool down. It was several hours until we realized the patio doors were open. We got the doors closed but we were miserable all night. The next day we asked if they could fix the A/C. They said they would but nothing got better. To make it worse, housekeeping turned off the A/C while we were gone for the day and the room was blazing hot all night again. We finally had to hide the A/C remote from hotel staff so it would stay on during the day. This helped keep it cool enough to sleep better but still not ideal.
- Hotel staff seemed disinterested.

this was a very cost effective property, but there were a number of problems that i had to accept because of the cost: the room safe was broken and could not be fixed. i was advised just to put the \"do not disturb\" sign on my door. i was not wary of staff, but that the hotel seemed quite open to non guests walking into and through the hotel. so my problem was not solved.

i had to ask to have a small refrigerator brought to the room (the cupboard where it should have been was empty) and it took two days to get there. these are small things, so i was like \"whatever\", but they were problems that the staff couldn't solve easily.

the hotel also hosts dance parties on the rooftop numerous nights, so sleep can be a challenge, if you go to bed before 1 or 2AM.

most of the staff are very friendly and super helpful, but there are front desk staff who do not seem to care too much.

overall, it was alright (i was in Mexico, that was good enough), but I will definitely not return to this property. its better to spend a little more money and get something with less or no problems.

Property was mostly clean but needs a bit of TLC, especially around the pool area. The area itself is nice - plenty of restaurants and things to see nearby. Unfortunately we had a lot of construction noise from next door and some music late into the night, but this is obviously outside the control of the hotel. Breakfast was disappointing as they couldn’t cater for my gluten free wife other than providing a small bowl of fruit. All in all though our stay was decent and we would consider staying again

It was a bitter experience staying in this hotel. No coffee/tea maker or water provided in the first day. Breakfast was poor quality. Only a bread toast with tea and some fruit. No choice. No towels were changed when room cleaning was done. Staff at reception was good and cooperative.

I gave it 2 stars cause I feel bad for the staff. They are doing what they can. The pictures are not accurate. The “waterfall fountain is not working” the rooms are musty smelling. You get 1 rough towel per person- no hand towels, washcloths. A sheet on the bed. No blankets, nothing extra( I had to buy a blanket for myself from a store) toilet seat flopping around. No restaurant or bar as advertised. Pool cold, hot tub out of order. We were right under the rooftop deck that they have some type of dance club with seriously loud music till 1 am (I asked the desk and they said it was to go till 1 am.) we got stuck in the elevator and they acted like it happens all the time, No big deal to them. Breakfast is 2 pieces of toast a small cup of fruit and 1 cup of coffee or tea which my husband does not drink so we had to buy a bottle of water for him. They don’t open till 830ish so we only got the “breakfast” once which was plenty. It seriously felt like a comedy show and I wasn’t laughing. There were others in our group. 1 had no air at all and they couldn’t move her till the last day. There was another couple we saw locked out of their room for 3 hours and there was no one to fix the door. I guess if you don’t go with a big chain this is what you get but it’s definitely false advertising.

You can tell back in the days it's was a great Hotel but besides the staffing been nice and attentive. I won't actually atay that hotel again. You got be aware the have very limited to none parking and outside the local police are looking to give you a parking ticket (and none give you coins for your bills). One night we didn't have water. And I believe that place is overrated on the price of you compared to any Airbnb nearby.

**Soho Playa Hotel Review**

Our experience at Soho Playa had several disappointing aspects. When we first arrived, there was no electricity. We had to wait in the heat, which was frustrating since all I wanted was to rest after our journey. The hotel is conveniently located just a few blocks from the beach, about a 5-minute walk, so we decided to head there. I’m not sure when the power was restored since we returned to the hotel around 8 p.m. that evening.

One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was for the pool, but it was rarely clean. The hotel advertised a sky bar by the pool, which was nonexistent. During our 9-day stay, the pool was only cleaned twice, and that was because I specifically requested it.

The worst experience happened on our last day. The fire alarms went off, and my son and I were terrified. The hallways were filled with thick fog, making it hard to see or breathe. We rushed out of the room, unsure of what was happening. The hotel administrator approached us and explained that they were fumigating and asked us to return to our room. However, the smoke had already started entering our room, so we had to leave and go outside to get fresh air.

Although the staff apologized and admitted the fumigation was handled poorly, the situation was still unacceptable. The overuse of spray caused a lot of unnecessary panic for us and other guests. I understand mistakes happen, better management and communication could have avoid this kind of situation.

I had an amazing stay at SOHO. The staff is so hardworking and friendly. The manager is always trying to make the stay enjoyable. She is an incredible manager. The rooms are spacious. The air conditioner was quiet and cooled the room nicely. The hotel is close to the beach and shopping area.

We have stayed here before and it was amazing, this time was was totally different! The pool was broken the entire time after asking about it for 2 day I was “promised” my the manager that it would be fixed in 2 hours needless to say it was never fixed. The maintenance man explained that the previous maintenance man quit and didn’t tell them it had broken. I explained that the manager should have never promised that it would be fixed in 2 hours if that was the case. I could have stayed at another hotel with a working pool. Then the jets in the hot tub were broken. We also lost water at one point. I understand that the hotel is under new management but until they get things fix I wouldn’t stay there again. They did offer any kind of compensation, I mean it is the end of July and almost 100 degrees and no pool!

We were looking for a new travel experience, far away from the all inclusive packages. This hotel was a pearl not luxury, but well maintained. Well located, close to the playa del Carmen downtown, 1 minute walk to 5th avenue. New staff of the hotel was very kind. We didn't try the breakfast, because we wanted to enjoy the typical food at restaurants, so I don't have any comment on this. The roof pool was refreshing, specially after a full day walking at 5th av. Also, beach is a 10 minutes walk. We arrived to playa del Carmen taking the ADO bus on terminal 2 of Cancun airport, it was cheaper than taking a taxi, once in playa del carmen we walked (20 minutes from turistic ADO terminal) to get to the hotel. We booked a all inclusive to Xel-ha and xelha bus picked up and dropped us at the end of the day at Plaza las Perlas (10 minutes walk). If you are looking for a more freedom trip, this is the perfect hotel. There is a construction next to the hotel, so during day, you can hear some bangs at your room, but this is normal and completely out of control of the hotel administration. If you want to try a new travel experience this is the right hotel for you ;)

El desayuno en si creo que podria mejorar. La chica de la mañana no tenia muy buena actitud. No nos dio informacion de como funcionaba el desayuno, lo cual lo hizo confuso ya que es en un establecimiento al lado. Ademas, al hacer checkout en vez de preguntarnos como estuvo todo o agradecernos por la estancia la chica solo me hizo firmar un papel de que no habiamos olvidado nada, se me hizo un poco agresivo. El joven del turno de la noche bien. El hotel esta muy bien ubicado, cuando llegamos ya no habia estacionamiento disponible pero el parquimetro no es caro.

There is no bar on the roof open (although the pool is very nice), nor was there yoga every morning. Unfortunately our stay was less than ideal mostly because of the construction of the building directly beside the hotel. Starting at 7:30am everyday there was constant and very loud banging and hammering. The rooftop pool was also clearly unused and dirty due to the construction directly beside it with building materials falling into the pool. The rooftop bar also was not open probably for the same reason.
Beyond all of that, the actual room was nice and relatively clean. We did lose hot water at one point and running water entirely at another. Both of which were remedied relatively quickly.
I would stay here again once the construction beside us completed, but definitely would not while that is still ongoing.

This place was okay, however, I felt like it was lacking in some areas. The location was ok, not far from 5th Avenue, but almost a mile from the autobús ADO. The room had the basic, it was a room with a king size bed and only 1 chair but plenty of room for another chair or a couch. The tv remote did not actually turn the tv on/off, it just worked to turn on their streaming service “totalplay” I never did learn to use it and all the channels were in Spanish and did not catch my attention. It was nice that they decorated my room for my bday and there was a bottle of wine (Don Simon- about $7usd price) since I booked a VIP Premium deal. We needed ice to ice a swollen knee and the hotel did not have ice. The room also did not have a hair dryer, we had to request one and pick up from the front desk. Same with the towels, they only have us 2 and we wanted a third to use for the ice we bought from 7-11. The breakfast hours are from 9-11am (I think that’s late) so we requested to pick up early. It consisted of toast with butter and syrup (not jelly), a cup of fruit (papaya and cantaloupe) that was kinda of mushy, and a small bottle of water. The breakfast was definitely disappointing. I requested a late check-out since my flight was at 7pm and was told it would be $40. I told them I would be leaving by 2:30pm and then was told $20-I felt that charge could’ve been excused for an Exp Gold member and since the construction from next door woke me up two days. I would not stay here again.

Roof top pool all lit up, it was a lovely end to a stressful day. It was quite noisy until about 1:30am and then all was quiet. The only good thing about this place is that it's conveniently located in downtown. The service and the facility in itself was terrible. First of all, there was no phone in the room to request for any service. We had to go down at the reception desk everytime we needed something which was always empty cuz they were always away from the desk. Our room had no fsce towels and when asked for some, the lady at the reception was hesitant in providing as if we were going to steal them from her. On our 3rd night, we requested bath towels because they didnt replenish our rooms when they cleaned it and it took her hours to bring them over to our room. The room showed a hammock on the balcony but when i asked them for it, they said it was getting washed for the season? The furniture on the balcony had a flimsy chair and a plastic table. We were 2 in the room so only 1 of us was able to sit on the balcony. Everything was rusty. The mirror and walls were dirty. The room was always humid. The bed was uncomfortable. The pool \"bar\" on the rooftop was not in service. I dont think it ever was. Oh and to top it all off, they randomly turned off the water without warning so we had to go down to the reception desk to ask them to turn it on manually everytime we needed to shower. I can keep going but all in all, I would definitely not recommend this place.

Superior Location and Outstanding front desk service with easy check-in. Classy and Chic. Perfectly situated to be 100 steps from 5th Ave yet unbelievably quiet in our room. The Best Sleep I've had in a month of staying in different hotels during our travels. Spacious room with a refrigerator and a complimentary bottle of wine. Fast elevators and underground parking were a bonus. The rooftop pool and lounging area was perfect with cool views, quiet and relaxing. We travel to Playa DC often and this will, no doubt, be our new \"Go-To\" hotel. If you've clicked on this, you're done looking. Reserve! You will not be disappointed!

Hotel location is ideal to explore Playa's ever growing areas. We stayed in the Master Suite - room size is excellent and the external Hot Tub a nice area to relax.

We noted it was a special celebration and the staff did a great job on decorating the room for our special event.

Initially, breakfast offer (continental) was very poor (as commented by others) - but on discussion with the Manager we agreed an upgrade - this was great and very healthy (served in Green & Fit)

Hotel amenities are quite poor - Sky Bar should be renamed to Sky Terrace - as there is no Bar services and the whole upper deck area is falling into dis-repair and an underutilised space for the hotel.

Pool appears to be maintained - but due to lack of facilities and particularly the poor state of the toilet/changing areas not used.

Room amenities are very basic and limited to 2 coffees per day, 1 bottle of wine on arrival (for 2 persons this was not a luxury offering) - no other refreshments, or water given. Room service every other day.

Cleaning staff are great and did a good job on the room, but public areas – particularly the toilets are not maintained.

Front desk staff are disconnected from the guests and only respond when asked/ prompted for action.

Overall, the hotel could be an excellent base in Playa, but without investment in the amenities – there offering of a bed & limited breakfast will cause them to decline further.

The staff that works here are very friendly and helpful. Our check in experience was easy and the room was as pictured. We had rented a car so we were specifically looking for a hotel with parking. The parking that this hotel offered was an underground garage that can only be opened by the staff (for both entering and exiting). This wasn't a huge deal for us but for people who plan on using their vehicles a lot, this might matter. From our room we could hear a lot of the traffic and noise from the street, which with the exceptional location isn't a huge surprise but the construction on the building across the street woke us up at 6:30AM. Lastly, the water in the shower took quite some time to warm up. Overall I don't regret staying here but until the construction is complete I probably would stay elsewhere.

Soho Playa is Fantastic.

Stayed at Soho Playa in PDC for 6 days. Excellent service from the start. Very friendly and helpful and accommodating the entire time. Convenient location, secure free parking, easy street parking if wanted, and very much in the heart of the nightlife area.

My only complaint was the shower head was a bit weak. The shower at the pool had a better head and I would have preferred in my bathroom.

Pool on the roof and rooftop area was all very nice and fun to enjoy after a day exploring. Can’t say enough nice things about the service and the friendly staff. Excellent in every way.

This hotel was being advertised as a 4-star. It was an ok place to stay, but very disappointing. The hotel needed maintenance on the roof pool and bathroom area, it was in very bad shape. There is nothing special about this place, the service, or the amenities. This is a 2 or possibly 3 star hotel in reality.

Soho playa is in a excellent location with friendly and great front desk staff. Rooms are spacious and clean. Rooftop pool is clean and nice. There are lots of restaurants around this area. Overall we had a great stay!

No, there is not a continental breakfast

Hotel is in very busy area with street parking. Parking is available at the hotel underground once you check-in... kinda complicated. Staff during evening was very friendly. Free wine bottle was very nice. Room A/C worked okay. TV was complicated to work. Bed was very uncomfortable... headboard kept hitting the wall every time I moved. The shower was okay but nothing to write home about. Towels are tracked with a separate key card to insure there is no theft.

In the morning we checked out and looked forward to what is called a \"continental breakfast\", though it definitely was NOT. Breakfast is served next door in the cafe with a coupon. We asked the man what we could eat and he responded \"a piece of toast, a piece of fruit OR fruit juice, and a cup of coffee OR a cup of tea\". No where on planet earth is that considered a \"continental breakfast\". It was one serving altogether... no refills on the coffee/tea/juice, no second piece of toast. When I asked the morning staff at the hotel what was up with the supposed \"continental breakfast\", she responded: \"You are used to eating eggs and bacon with continental breakfast in the US, but here in Mexico a continental breakfast is a piece of toast, a piece of fruit, and coffee\". It was very condescending.

We won't stay at the hotel again... I don't like liars, and it is a LIE to call the breakfast a \"continental breakfast\".

Of course Hotels.com won't do anything about the false advertising.

I really , really wanted to love this hotel, but we did not ! There were lots of positive points but unfortunately the negative ones were overwhelming. First of all a 100 stars review for the service. Waaw, absolutely INCREDIBLE service. Everybody is so nice and friendly , ready to help. Location...well, that depends. If you are a light sleeper DONT STAY here, it's very,very noisy. But if you like the Live atmosphere on 5th Avenue literally a block away from the entrance then this is your place. Tropical destination hotel without refrigerator ???? Come on !!!!! Big points lost there !!! Towels not changed in 5 days ??? Another huge letdown. The continental breakfast offered in the adjacent restaurant next door : an insult, don't even bother asking for it. No wi-fi , what a blow !!!! Good size rooms, comfortable beds, nice size balcony and the best air conditioning unit that we ever had in our vast traveling experience : efficient and quiet. Big plus there. Overall is not bad...but I would not stay here again.

Amazing hotel, highly recommend. However, don’t expect much from the breakfast offer, you get a voucher for some toast and coffee / orange juice at the bar next door. I didn’t use it more than once, so wasn’t an issue.

Got what we paid for :)

Our stay at Soho Hotel was perfect and got what we paid for. Don't expect a 5 five star hotel, but our the hotel served its purpose. To be closer to the Xcaret parks. I only have two negative things to say about the hotel and that is that the parking area is too small and the bumper hit the floor when driving down to it and their includes breakfast is only bread and fruit.

The front desk employees were awesome! My second room was very nice and clean. The first room I received the a/c didn’t work at all. It cooler outside than inside. The 2nd room was much better but it took around 45 minutes to finally get a room with a/c.
The room was advertised to come with breakfast and that was one of the reasons I chose this hotel over a couple of others. The breakfast was only continental and didn’t start until 9am.

The service was just unreal. I’ve never felt more at home in my entire life at a hotel. The front desk was so attentive and helpful and considerate.

One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed. The bed sheets were stained and curtains had cigarette holes, the room smelled and the furniture were dated and in a poor shape. Never received the complimentary bottle of wine that was offered in the promo. The breakfast consists of toast bread and coffee and the restaurant staff is rude and slow. Also the location is very noisy. I checked out after 1st night.
