The room was clean and staff courteous. Very centrally located however noise is an issue. If you want peace and quiet I would not suggest a stay here. The local bars have live music which is very nice but very loud.

Room linens also need to be upgraded to include a real blanket. The temps were unusually low for the area when I visited but there was literally only a sheet on the bed. VERY cold at night.

Warm friendly staff & great location

Hotel front desk immediately made you feel welcome and explained everything well. Italian restaurant on ground floor provided a very good free continental breakfast. Coffee, juice, fruit/muesli bowl and toast jam.
There is a fair amount of noise that comes into the room from the restaurant up until midnight, so take ear plugs and you won’t notice it.

They Need a Security Guard ASAP : on my first night , i had a HORRIBLE encounter , i was getting put of my room and some random Dude aproach me asking we ( who was she with ?) he was knoking on some empty room , then he grab me hard by the arm and pushed me towards him asking me millions of questions i had to yell in the top of my lungs for him to let me go , finally i go down and tell the lobby employee and they were so numb about it , too slow to re act finally they call the cops and Arrested the Individual. they need more awareness and either a sec guard or a better entry system !! that was a very scary experience !!!

A great boutique hotel on Quinta Avenida!

A beautiful room, located in a prime location of Centro. Featuring a great staff, well maintained rooms and it is connected to a Italian restaurant in the lobby (where guest eat at a discounted rate). I stayed here for a month and enjoyed the stay. Unic Design Hotel is a great option if you enjoy being in the action of Quinta Avenida!

A Decent Hotel in the Heart of Playa

Very reasonably priced. Very clean room and comfortable bed. I would have appreciated a blanket. What was available was something that resembled curtains instead of an actual blanket. I did encounter two very big cockroaches; one in the lobby and one in the hallway leading to my room. I notified the desk clerk, and when I returned later there was a man spraying insecticide. I appreciated that. It is a tourist area so there is quite a bit of loud music from local bands playing from about 8 PM to 1 AM every day. After that, it becomes very quiet. I just shut the windows and put earplugs in my ears. A free continental breakfast was included. One day, when I had finished my breakfast, the waiter asked me if he could get me anything else. I asked him for a little more coffee, and he said he would have to charge me 600 pesos! That's almost $6.00 U.S. dollars for a little splash of coffee which I found absurd and ridiculous.

I really enjoyed UNIC awesome property!

I only had couple of \"dings' about it:
When I first arrived I noticed the handle of my room's entrance almost falling off, JULIO the employee who showed me to my room took note about it but maintanence never took care of it for whole stay!!

The second \"ding\" was at check out, I ate some street food and got kinda sick from it (not major) I appproach the manager ANA if I could check out bit later (just 30 minutes tops) and she sarcasticly replyed that based on the circuntances that I was going thru she would be nice enought to allow me 5 (five) minutes after check out . . . 5 (five) minutes, really!!! NO JOKE

To top it off, she thought I was not around anymore and made a really bad comment to the trainee: \"yeah, make sure these people don't get away with crap!\" . . . Awesome training I guess?!?

She also mentioned to that new employee hat this was not even her property, that she was covering for somebody else but, her main location was in a different place.

Great staff, small hotel with comfortable rooms, great for the price and very good spot near 5th av where everything happens. The only thing I didn't like, but isn't the hotels fault, is the noise, the party and live music from the bars downstairs feels like it was inside the bedroom, that's only till 1:30am, but then at 7am they start the music in the restaurant inside the hotel and the noise wake you up again. Everything else was great to be honest.

The property is little and cute. The front desk crew is extremely friendly, honest and helpful.
This is one of the hotel that would fix any problem you present in a blink of an eye . It blew my mind how fast the fix to perfection the sink and shower.
Every day my room was clean to perfection. I do not know if they change my sheets everyday, but my bed was always so clean and perfect. Every day I had towels artwork made for my room. Exceptional talent from the housekeeping crew.

Overall I had a great stay. However it can get pretty loud in the mornings when they're settin up the restaurant downstairs. Do t stay here if you're looking for a peaceful night because you can hear the nightclubs. The shower pressure was weak, and the bed was pretty hard. However everything is walking distance, including the walk to the beach.

The property was in a great location that is centrally located to the main playa del carmen area. restaurants, the beach, various bars. So much to do there also. Only negative for the hotel was there was no pool, but honestly the beach was so close to relax at that it didnt feel like a negative. I would definitely stay heere again for the price, location and cleanliness and staff.

Es un hotel muy bonito con una excelente ubicación. A nosotros nos gustó muchisimo y nos fue muy util su ubicacion para trasladarnos a otros destinos. Sin embargo, debo decir que si tienes problema con el excesivo ruido por la noche, esta no será tu opcion, porque el hotel se encuentra ubicado encima de un restaurant y frente a la 5a Avenida por lo que el ruido en la noche es excesivo.

Received first room available that had window looking into the hallway that is less desirable for some. Half the rooms had a window into the street which could be noisier due to proximity to Quinta 5th ave. Water was Luke warm and not very hot. Continental was included - I don’t think hotels.com said it was included so was nice surprise. But do not pay extra for breakfast - it’s not worth it: stale toast and bitter coffee with fruit yogurt and granola. Would not stay again - just not a fan of Windows into a hallway due to lack of privacy.

Charming, comfortable, clean hotel with lovely staff. Please note that this hotel is off of the main entertainment street in Playa Del Carmen, and can be noisy at night. I always suggest traveling with earplugs, and did on this stay, so the noise wasn’t a bother.
I chose the room with the jetted tub, which I highly recommend! It was wonderful.

My Adventure at the Unic Hotel

This hotel is nice and conveniently located close to fifth avenue. Fifth avenue has an abundance of restaurants with Senior Frog's being around the corner. You can find all sorts of things to do there and it has a thriving night life for those looking for a good party. The hotel however needs some improvement. The improvements would be hot water in the mornings, the bathroom sink needs to be a bit closer to the edge of the table (I had to be on tip toes to reach the sink), the sink leaked a lot of water to the floor after each use and there was only one key to the room. The free breakfast was at a restaurant located about a block from the hotel. The meal consisted of two pieces of toast, orange juice, coffee and a few pieces of fruits. If you wanted to take the food back to the room, you had to pay 25 pesos for each container. The staff at the hotel were beyond nice. Alain, who is the front desk clerk was very attentive and a real pleasure to talk to. There was also a cleaning lady (I didn't get her name) who didn't speak any English but anticipated my every need in the mornings, especially with the sink leaking water to the floor. Overall, for the price of the room, I would definitely stay at the Unic again. And for those folks that are scared of bugs, there were none in sight on the premises! A bonus for me in a tropical environment.

Absolutely stunning

Literally on of the most beautiful hotels I have ever stayed in. Got a lot of bang for my buck. Quiet, nestled in a very tourist-y area of Playa del Carmen. Restaurant below had good food and you also get a discount. Enjoyed the jacuzzi tub and even got a free bottle of champagne. Looks exactly like the pictures!!!! Will visit again.

Good location but it comes with allot of noise. The restaurant in the void of the building will polish cutlery until about 1:00am. The two competing live music venues about 30-40 metres away play until 1:30am. The cleaners at the hotel opposite will play music until 3-4:00 am.

The shower is a dribble. A bird bath. Dreaded it each morning. After a couple of days they start to skim on linen - floor mats and hand towels disappear. No internal latch lock on the door so the house keepers will knock and barg in within a few seconds.

Overall, a very rugged experience in a location that is close to 5th and that has all the benefits and drawbacks of that.

Location is very convenient. But super noisy since 9pm-2am. As there are bar around. Then around 6am, there are some street cleaner with a big truck might be around. So I can say I only got total 4 hours (2-6am) for a real rest.
But it was clean & room is big enough to put 3 big luggage.

Overall Stay at Unic Design Hotel, was okay for the listed price, however there were many downsides as well The hotel staff was always pleasant and helpful (Ronnie, Francisco and Gabi), but this did not make up for the Terrible wifi, the excessive amount of noise from the 5th avenue street and the LOUD music playing late into the night and early morning. The **Surcharged continental breakfast was extremely disappointing. The staff the restaurant where breakfast was served were unpleasant, and hurried us to leave. The paid breakfast included 4 small pieces of fruit, 2 slices of toast, and a tablespoon of yogurt in a small bowl.
Great hotel for cheap travel in a good location if you are looking to have breakfast elsewhere and are willing to endure the rest.

I didn't have internet access in my room most of the time, even trying different networks provided by the staff. Breakfast is not very good but you have the chance to make additions in the restaurant. Apart from that, I'm very happy with the hotel, especially the staff.

To be fair, we only needed a 1 night stay ya catch a flight back the next evening. Kind staff, we selected the “vintage” room. It was the tiniest room I’ve ever been in! We laughed at the size, however it was a special rate for under $50 and included continental breakfast at a local restaurant for 2 so it’s tough to complain. We saved $ by coming here right off 5th ave. Location is perfect for being in the heart of everything. For one person traveling, this room would be ideal, but not for 2.

Bad experience!

I booked this place about 3 months in advance and it was during my honeymoon dates. Once we arrived, the person at the front desk told us that our room isn't available due to a so called \"maintenance issue\" and that they have another room at another hotel for us a few miles away. We had no choice but to accept. I suspect that they chose to give our room to someone else that paid more, even though I booked it months in advance. I hate being a victim of the classic bait and switch technique and especially on my honeymoon!

If you're old like me dont stay here!

TV didnt work. The \"first floor\" is actually the second floor. No elevator. So you have to climb the stairs. Other than that the room is in the center of town.

This hotel was amazing and the staff was even better! Everything was clean and very well taken care of. Anything we needed they helped us with right away. The only thing that might bother some people is the restaurant right in the middle of the downstairs and bars across the street off of Avenida La Quinta. Obviously things were louder at night but seemed to die down around 1AM. Then again who honestly goes to paradise to get in bed before 1AM!!! It didn't bother us at all and was nice to have the view of the main street and watch everything going on down there. We visit family in Playa Del Carmen about 3-4 times a year. This property is easily on the list of our top 3 favorites!

Too much noise, and needs some remodeling.

We didn't like it, because there's a lot of clubs close to the hotel and at night you can't sleep and rest because the music and the people are too loud until very early in the morning.
Also the hotel needs some upgrade, old TV and we only see the Disney Channel because the TV remote control was not programed correctly, for two days they cut the water for construction work, and also a couple of days they didn't clean our room, and the towels very old with holes.
I don't recommend this hotel, there's better options in this area with the same or better rate.

great hotel in a loud street

the room was gorgeous, clean and huge and if it were located in a quiet part of Playa del carmen it would have been excellent. There is a super loud bar across the street and if I hadnt been exhausted I wouldnt have slept at all any of the 3 nights I stayed. Music went on past 1 am every night and on Sunday morning I wanted to sleep in but the restaurant downstairs started moving furniture around from 7-10am... So dont plan on a nice quiet hotel stay here. Not good for people who go to bed early nor people who sleep in either. The staff was friendly but when I arrived they were slow for the check in, said I wasnt in the list but then they found me. I wanted to like this place but not sure I would recommend it.

Nice hotel close to 5 AVE

We decided to stay in this hotel for a couple of days before heading to an all inclusive. Hotel manangement contact me to confirm details about our reservation and provide assistance. We arrived late from the airport and had no issues checking in.

Hotel is small but nice. Stayed there with my wife and two year old daughter. Some people complained in other reviews about the noise at night but we did no have any issues with it. Our room included breakfast at a nearby restaurant which was great. Recommend if you are looking for a basic hotel close to 5 Ave and be in close proximity to restaurants, shops and night life.

First of the reception staff was rude and mean. They never cleaned our room, and every time we wanted to go to the beach they wouldn't let us borrow towels like other hotels. There is no pool and the rooms are really small, the shower head was broken. Again service and staff provided my worse experience ever! Never again (also provided linkages soap and toilet paper!! That sucked!)

Beautiful boutique hotel close to the beach

The staff was 5 stars. They made our stay feel luxurious and wanting to stay longer. We were there for a week and even had our wedding at the Italian resturant last minute there because it rained on the beach where we were suppose to have it. I asked the hotel that day if it was ok to use the facility and they right away went to set up and make it just \"PERFECT\". Thank you so much! Our room was adorable and had everything we needed. Very clean , cute and quant .

I wish the staff was more friendly. None one Took the time to explains our benefits we found out we have free continental breakfast after the third day. The Lady was the only person gave us information when we ask. Nobody say hello when we get in or out the hotel. Btw towel were never change we use the same for 5 days. Staff need to be more friendly.

The hotel looked exactly like the website. This room is for young people it is right on 5th Av where the night life is, but it's really loud and there's a restaurant downstairs where the lobby should be. The staff is AMAZING. My main complaint is that I did not have any hot water to shower with the entire 5 days that I was there.

cute little place but not ideal if you have kids. I have many complaints/dislikes.... there is no elevator only a small somewhat spiral staircase so not good if your bags are heavy. there was no parking, we had to park in a lot a few blocks away and were charged for it. the hotel was a bit hard to find, there was no sign outside of the building. it's located on a one way street, we eventually found it to notice they had one sign outside but it was facing the wrong way so you can't see it going down the street. the sheets were very stiff and uncomfortable. the bathroom counter and tables are at head level for a walking toddler and they could easily get hurt like mine did. there is no pool. we were told they had a deal with another hotel but we didn't try to use it as we didn't want to pay for it like the parking. our room window was facing to street so we had lots of loud noise late at night which kept the kids up. overall very dissatisfied with our experience. won't go back and wouldn't recommend.

Cute hotel with good location

Its a small hotel with basic facilities. There was no dining area or breakfast area on site. We got a free voucher for breakfast at a restaurant close by. The hotel and rooms appeared clean and the staff were cordial and helpful! The location is excellent. It's right on Quinta Avenida. There are shops, restaurants, caffes as soon as you walk out and beach is a 5-6 minute walk.

Nicely renovated room. I think we had the largest room in the place which had two chairs, a large jacuzzi tub, large screen TV (almost all spanish channels) and an interesting large terrarium in the room with large plants including a small tree. Bathroom sink drained slow.
Service good--not extraordinary, but good. Very friendly staff.
It would have been nice to be able to people watch from their balcony sitting area on our floor (second floor), but the view is blocked by the awning on the restaurant below when seated.
Small safe, wouldn't accommodate even my 13\" Macbook.
Ferry to Cozumel walkable distance (we walked going, took a cab back). No direct beach or private beach access.
No elevators.

Nice place

I enjoyed everything about my stay. Aesthetically pleasing with very very kind & helpful staff. I enjoyed everything, except the bed was a little too firm for my liking. I did enjoy this stay so much I hate to admit that, I can only be truthful though. I would still recommend it to others. The hotel pictures are truthful, I love the look. And it's just off the beaten path if you prefer to be in a quiet area vs the club themed streets.

For the price you can have a lot of better choices

For the price, you can have a lot of better choices in Playa del Carmen. This hotel is extremely noise since \"Quinta Avenida\" is right on the corner. Unless you like to party all night, do not stay at this hotel. Rooms are okay, Internet is a big issue. In general they have not costumer services at all, check in was slow and very unprofessional.

Not a good choice

First the Hotel it's not a parking , I need to look and pay for parking, Second the hotel got a problem s at the restroom wit water licks . I ask to talk to manager about this matter's and never let me , so very bad vacations thanks the hotel and the rent car, thanks

Perfect location but still a little privacy!

Everything was perfect....... would definitely stay here again. Only minor complaint is that the wifi is a little shaky. Could have just been my room location, but every restaurant and bar....... and I mean EVERY restaurant and bar has wifi, so no problem there. Great stay, thanks for the hospitality!

Place was incredible, staff was amazing! Thanks Felipe for all the help and recommendations.. It was the perfect location no need for a cab at all the whole trip.. Everything was walking distance from the hotel.. Room was immaculate everyday! Wish we could have stayed longer, but 9 days was plenty of time to get a full experience..

Room was clean on arrival. AC broke on the second day and they moved me into another room until it was fixed. No issues after that. Definitely would not recommend this place for families with children as it gets very noisy at night probably until 1 am and that's not even the noise from the main strip.Shower did not get very hot at times. I took lukewarm showers several times. Restaurant was convenient on rainy days. My clothes and all my belongings smell just like the hotel room. Yuck! Also, bed was very hard as well.

This is a nice hotel! It looks like it was recently renovated...everything is new!
The staff is top notch!!! Nora, so professional and caring!
The only issue with this hotel is that at night it gets pretty noisy!

This was a super cute, clean hotel with great staff. The front desk guy was very helpful. I read complaints about music noise but it could barely be heard in my room and it stopped at a decent time of night. I would definitely stay here again.

Location, location, location

Clean hotel, great location. Plenty of hot water. Staff very courteous and heloful. Reasonable price. Yes there is noise at night but that's because of the location. It's a choice to make!

I'd go back.
