Great location and staff, old dirty hotel

I hate writing a negative review when the employees were doing their best so would like to mention that first. I arrived to London around 11am and was hoping to just store my bags until check-in but was able to check in early. This was unexpected and a nice start to the stay.

The room and bathroom were dirty and not very well maintained. Unfortunately the bed was the least comfortable I’ve ever slept on. I typically don’t struggle to fall asleep on a busy vacation but here couldn’t ever seem to get comfortable.

I would not stay back here unless I were unable to find anywhere else for an even somewhat comparable price. At the time, there were plenty of other options that might’ve been a bit less convenient location wise. I would recommend going with something like that instead.

I cannot say much positive about this hotel.

The location is close to Baywater stations and that is where the positives end.

Our room was facing the street and for the first 2 nights, there was a street party happening until 4am. After the second night of very little sleep, we requested a new room. We were told because we weren't packed up and ready to move, that was not possible (this was at 630am and we had an all-day event) The staff said \"It should be better tonight\". We said that after 2 sleepless nights we weren't willing to risk it. When we returned at 8pm from our day tour, we asked again for a new room. They were able to accommodate, however, the new room was no better. We left the next morning and found a new hotel. They were completely unapologetic.

The first room was VERY hot and the A/C seemed to turn off every half every so we would have to get up and turn it on again. The windows were very thin and provide zero sound barrier to any noise.

Both rooms looked tidy enough, but the property looked a bit dated.

Please save yourself the trouble and DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL.

Location great, but…

A good location, but low standard pillows and bed made for an uncomfortable night.
Also ensure you brief your staff that AMEX is not accepted. We went through two tries, declined, for Amex to inform me it was declined at the hotel end. This was not the receptionist’s fault. She was embarrassed.

I booked two rooms for 3 people (2 in one, 1 in the other). After an extremely poor experience at another place, this booking was a real relief. So friendly, lovely and accommodating at such short notice. Well positioned near tubes and buses, right near Kensington Gardens, plenty nearby and the hotel stay itself was just absolutely gorgeous. Staff were SO lovely. Thank you so so much for everything ❤️

We booked an executive triple room but were given a basement room that did not match the description at all. Instead of a single bed, there was a sofa bed, and the room was too cramped for three people. Adding to the disappointment, there were no windows and the AC couldn't be used because the outlet was inconveniently located directly above the sofa bed. For £340 per night, this experience was incredibly disappointing. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel.

Great stay in a great location.
Brilliant customer service from staff, had an issue with the tv remote that was resolved immediately.
Only thing I would say is take ear plugs as we were kept up by the rain and noises from the floor above (I am deep sleeper as well). Also, the toilet roll is scented which is not the best so we had to go out and get non scented toilet roll. Other than that I would recommend this hotel to others. Breakfast was also lovely :)

Upon reaching our hotel at 9:30 we were asked to pay the full amount for a superior double room and I had asked on booking for a twin room. We left our bags and headed out for the day.
We returned at 22:00 and was given room G101.
It was just around the corner from reception and next to the laundry room.
When we entered the room us was very cold. We used the difficult room temp to try our best to heat it but was only able to turn the fan down.
In the room was a double bed and a low camp bed. The huge windows were so drafty and no sound proof to the road outside. Add to that the ‘curtains’ were voile and did not close. Light out in bathr
I spoke to a staff member to tell of our disappointment and he said there were no other rooms due to the hotel being full.
It was not his fault but I just expressed how disappointed we were as this room was not up to the standard we had paid for on the morning.
This room must be the last room to be given out and I imagine that even though we paid for the room in full at 9:30am as we didn’t arrive back until 22:30 we were given the last and worse room.
I had been recommended this hotel by a friend who had stayed in an upper floor room with 2 large beds.
As we had requested a twin room and didn’t get it I slept on a terrible camp bed felt every spring.
The Queensway hotel nearby looked the same quality hotel but it’s 30% a night cheaper.
Such an upsetting situation with my mum for her 70th birthday.

The area was great. Your staff were friendly we can’t fault the reception team. We felt safe it was convenient. We arrived in the night to a room with no window and this was not what we expected. I found it hard to sleep at first it felt weird. Please state this on booking. I was looking for a room last min and avoided the ones that stayed this. That’s my only complaint.

Worst night in a hotel ever

Probably the worst hotel experience I’ve ever dealt with. My partner and I decided on a list minute night in London and saw the nicely laid out hotel on here. We booked a room costing almost £200 and arrived at around 9:30/10pm to check in. Upon arrival we were greeted by another guest shouting about no fresh towels on their 3rd night in a row of a week long stay.

When we opened the room (a basement room) we were greeting with two single beds pushed together with separate sheets in a ‘deluxe’ room option. There were still female sanitary products in the bathroom bin, chips and marks all over the walls. The mattresses were also broken.

We managed to fall asleep after tossing and turning to be woken up by rats in the basement area right outside the cracked window. We ended up waking and setting off after 2 hours sleep at 5am as neither of us were able to sleep.

Most awful experience. Overpriced, zero compensation and ghosted after attempting to contact them again. Shoddy and relies on location to get ANYONE through the door.

Overall good but basics need attention.

Firstly this hotel was not my first choice.
I had hot water issues on Saturday evening which weren’t resolved until Sunday afternoon. Secondly half the TV channels had no signal.
Slightly dissatisfied with the basic standard of an established hotel which should be getting these things right on a daily basis.

The rooms look lovely but are let down with tatty paint work and a good hoover through ...behind the blind by the bed was thick dust and so many cobwebs ..no tea or coffee pods in the room i has to ask for them ...such a shame as a good twenty minute clean and a check of everything first could be a perfect hotel

This property was a half block from Hyde Park where we were running a 5K on Saturday Aug 31. Very close to two Tube Underground Stations and 3 different Hop on Hop off Buses. Very nice location to the West side of London.

The view of the window is where hotel laundry is dumped, so from the early morning you’ll hear men chatting and happily dumping the laundry bags.
Then, each 5~10 mins you’ll hear noises from the W.C pipes like a thunder

And there were two big flys which I had to trace and kill

Adequate lodging in the convenient Bayswater area, but this properly doesn't go to much trouble to make the guest feel comfortable. The only two lighting settings in the room were 'operating room' (500-watt overhead fixtures) or 'laboratory microscope' (hideous blue bedside LEDs). Other hotels in the area provide a nice, soft table-top lamp - doesn't seem like a lot of trouble to go to. Molding missing from bathroom wall below shower - risk of pests or rodents entering the room (although I didn't detect any creatures). That said, the shower was lovely. Nice handy plank above the sink for all my products. Coffee/tea items in the room were abonimable. Carpet was far from clean (as I discovered while searching for a lost earring). Bed not particularly comfortable, but serviceable - and seemed clean (linens, anyway). Extremely noisy - bring earplugs for sleeping. You will hear your neighbors clearly, and vice versa (conversations, sex, doors slamming, water running).

Good location, maybe a bit further down Bayswater Road than expected, but that is my fault for not checking.
Property is listed here at 3.5 star (is 4 star on a competitors site). It certainly is neither of these.

I was in a ground floor room which afforded me the all the sounds accociated with the comings and goings of most other guests. The room also had no heavy curtains, only sheet one which did not cover window fullly (particularly at end). As a result light entered the room not long after sunrise and prevented sleep. That said the window. Was overlooking an internal light well and the pigeons who lived there made for noisy neighbors. When I asked at reception about curtains that would block light (in another room) I was told this was what was throughout hotel but they would check and get back to me. No-one did however.
The bed was two mattresses side by side. The mattress closer to the bathroom was so soft that when you sat lay on the bed it sank completely. Very uncomfortable.
Bathroom was okay but very small and didn’t feel like it had had a deep clean in a while. Towels were new-ish and seemed quite okay. Amenities were small and low quality.
Tv was a decent size but featured few channels - no BBC News for example. There was no kettle in the room and warm water needed to be fetched from outside dining area. There was a coffee machine in room which I did not use.
Overall, I would not recommend.

Unfortunately I lived in the basement floor, the bedding is not cleaned and there’s a huge stinky smell comes from the bathroom. We requested to exchange our room, but the front desk was impolitely reject our request with the reason of the hotel is fully booked.

I stayed at the hotel for two nights but they didn’t offer another room for me on the next day, poor hospitality.

I will rather say this is a two star hotel and not value for money!

It’s not worth it....

The basement room should be taken out, or at least seperate it as another room type, so that the guests can expect.... you feel bad when it’s a little construction workspace outside of your window, and the light was on all night until I asked the staff the switch it off for the 2nd time... the room was super noisy, from both inside and outside. It’s just like a b&b and not worth it.... overall experience is bad...

We were traveling for our Honeymoon and found that Park Avenue J had good reviews in an area we hadn’t been close to on the first leg of our trip, so we were excited to try something new.

The rooms looked simple but modern, the complimentary breakfast seemed like a plus, they boasted free bottled water in the rooms, and concierge services at reception.

The first room we were put in was - simply put - disgusting. They had set up wine and swan towels for us, which was a thoughtful touch. My only wish is that such thoughtfulness had carried through to ANY other aspect of the stay. The bed had hair all over it, the sheets and pillowcases were stained, the walls had stains and scuffs (magic eraser is not expensive or hard to use), towels had hair on them, the “bottled water” was a refilled glass bottle of tap water, and the carpet looked like it had never seen a shampooer, nonetheless a vacuum.

We went downstairs and requested a new room. They moved us, but not before speaking in Russian, which I can only assume they thought we wouldn’t understand, about how we were wrong and being picky. The new room was larger and cleaner, certainly, but again the bed was littered with random hairs, the pillowcases needed a bleaching, and it was impossible to feel comfortable (both overall and while trying to balance between the two twin mattresses they smashed together to make our queen bed). Housekeeping also had no problem leaving their closets open for us to see the conditions the linen

Terrible hotel, probably one of the worst I’ve ever stayed at. staff having a gathering outside our room at 8am, banging around the hoovers and gossiping away. Hotel was also the most expensive I’ve spent and would have much preferred a cheaper alternative. My partner was also unimpressed. Lovely hotel in fabulous location. Adorable room, with little welcoming extras, such as large fluffy towels and a decanter of fresh water left in the room each day. The hotel staff are all friendly and accommodating. One night we brought back a late take out dinner, and we were welcomed to sit in the breakfast dining area, and were even brought plates. We look forward to returning.

Don't accept room 101 - you will get no sleep !

The internal and external noise was so bad that I had 1 hour of sleep - when I raised this with reception I was offered a coffee by way of apology, I was also offered a continental breakfast as I was leaving and they had already told me that they couldn't do anything about my complaint ( for a £170 room) ... I strongly advise that room 101 should be returned to being part of the kitchen or storeroom as I challenge anyone to be able to sleep amongst the extreme noise that is experienced there - delivery vans , other guests smoking and chatting outside the room at the front of the hotel , staff working from 6 am filling glass water bottles and chatting on the other side of the stud wall , general street noise, refuse collectors , reception and the dining room.

Basement rooms should be taken off the market!

The staff was nice enough and the location was fine except for a shortage of restaurants and shopping within a few blocks. My room was in the basement though and it was horrible! Super small and super noisy. Another guest was complaining of the same thing when I walked up to check out.

I rate this property 4/5 stars because it was economical, clean, relatively quiet, and in a safe area of London. There were no amenities - no vending machines, ice, etc... Some of the staff provided good customer service, while with others there were language issues. We didn't opt for the breakfast which looked to be good but costly at 14 pounds per person. They got the core things right which is why I rate it high. Addressing the issues I raised would result in a hotel that was easily twice the cost.

I was a bit disappointed with the hotel overal. First of all, customer service needs to be improved. In particular, Elizabeth who worked at the reception desk didn’t have a proper training or just not suited for this role as she was not friendly or helpful. Most other staff were helpful and nice.
Next, there is no waiting area in the hotel if you arrive before 3 pm. You can’t sit anywhere at all especially if it’s before 10am as you can’t even have a seat in the area where breakfast is held, so you have to go somewhere else.
There are no tea facilities in the room. There is no fridge/bar.
Don’t ask at the reception to call you a cab. The car that arrived to take me to Paddington station charged me 10 pounds without a meter. It’s clearly not a proper taxi service like Black Cab, but you end up paying since you got trapped already.

When reviewing this hotel I have to remember that this is London - truly one of the most expensive places I have visited - so you need to adjust your expections. For a Londond Hotel, I give this a 3.5 out of 5. The location was good and the internet was good. BUT - if this were anywhere else I would give it a 2. For the price you pay you literally are getting only a room. There are no extras, no service that goes beyond what you'd expect and not a lot of attention to detail.

The room was very small, not clean (definitely did not look like the floor had been vacuumed and there was hair in the sheets), no service beyond checking you in, mediocre looking breakfast... Also, we asked and booked 3 beds - what they gave us was a queen bed on two twin box springs and a twin bed all pushed together in the centre of the room. It was weird. I would never stay here again.

Hotel was in a good location for riding the tube and also if you wanted to walk through the nearby Royal Park. We did the walk and arrived at the Serpentine and spent some time watching the many wildlife including swans, ducks and geese. Room was very clean and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. A suggestion to management would be to install a large pull handle on the inside of the main entrance door to the hotel to open it from the inside, as at the moment they have a small latch which has to be pulled on to open the door and in time this will definitely break.

We left for the rest of the day expecting our luggage to be in our room so when we returned all we would have to do was pick up the room key.But on arrival back a different receptionist said that our luggage was not in our room and they would get the porter to bring it up to the room.It transpired that we had been changed to different room which was tiny with hardly room to swing the proverbial cat in also there was an unpleasant smell coming from the toilet/ shower room.We accepted this as it was now 23.30 and we were tired, the label on our case was 109 which had been crossed out and 108 substituted.
On our way to breakfast we had to pass 109 and the door was open as the room was being cleaned it was a much larger room than 108.When we queried this the reptionist said that all the rooms are the same size which we knew was wrong as we had stayed ther before.The manager was not on site so nothing could we done all we could do was write to the manager.
With this in mind we would not recommend or stay in this establishment again

Good hotel for price

Hotel was nice and clean. Reception was just a lady at a desk but I guess that's all we needed. Bed was good and room was OK size, room was very clean which is very important. Only down side was room was below ground level so no natural light and only 2 towels in bathroom both of which were hand towels so no chance of covering up everything when you walk out the bathroom.
Breakfast was a decent continental.
And took a £50 payment on card just in case we used/damaged anything. I would expect a small payment if anything. But I guess they wont actually take the money so not a problem.

this hotel tops our list for nice location
excellant caring ,polite,and helpfull staff and a very good value for money for budget minded people .a few mins walk to diana memorial park .Beautiful...a few mins walk to the Subway trains .
Mins walk from resturants and stores and absolutly a lot of cafes and places to eat in the evening resturants ..your choice off foods from almost every country that one could think off.loved it .Next time in london will be on our list

We would absolutely stay here again. It’s close to several tube stations and the park, but also a fairly quiet street. The best part of the J Hotel, hands down, was the extremely helpful and kind staff. We had a two day side trip planned, and they were very accommodating in letting us leave our large luggage pieces for two days at no charge. Recommend for this reason alone.

Lovely, quiet hotel near Hyde Park

The J Hotel looked very well fitted-out with a clean, modern look. The staff were friendly and efficient and the place was spotlessly clean. Lovely hot shower.
The only downside (and this is specific to the room I was in) was the level of noise from the hotel staff first thing in the morning. I was in Room 101 on the ground floor, which is next to the linen store, and from 5.45am both nights I was there, there was a radio and quite loud talking which woke me up and kept me awake. I'd suggest asking for a different room if you're assigned that one.

Overall, a very good experience.

Clean room, professional staff, and an overall pleasant atmosphere.

Due to the proliferation of small hotels in the neighborhood, the area around the hotel felt a bit touristy, which was a downside. However, the nearby tube station makes it easy to get around.

There were also several cracks in the wall; while this did not detract from my personal experience, it might be a salient detail for others.

Stylish and Comfortable Stay in Great Location!

We're so glad that amongst the row of hotels on the street, we chose J Hotel London. It was brightly lit, clean, and stylish. The staff -- especially the breakfast crew -- were friendly and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. We love the USB power sockets, the option to \"Style My Room\" (housekeeping), the bottled water (sparkling is available!), and the numerous little details and extra touches that made our stay that much more memorable!
