I enjoyed my stay at Balmoral House Hotel. It's been a while since I could stay somewhere that does a full English breakfast! It's very convenient for the local shops, train and tube, especially the Elizabeth line.

My room was cleaned daily and the staff are very welcoming.The sole quibble I have is that there wasn't a shelf to put soap and shampoo on in the shower. It's a small thing, but it makes it easier to manage.

Weekend rugby trip

Down in London for a rugby weekend and as always stayed in Paddington. It's pretty central and within walking distance of all the sights which was really handy as there was a tube strike throughout our visit. Sussex Gardens is just off the main street and set back from the road by gardens so nice and quiet at night. The hotel was nice and our room was spacious for a twin with comfortable beds and a small ensuite shower and toilet. Furnishings and layout are not modern like the big chain hotels but it is clean and tidy, with daily housekeeping and fresh towels etc and the staff on reception and in the breakfast room were pleasant and friendly. The only downside is there is no lift so it's not suitable if stairs are an issue as the rooms are over 5 floors. We've stayed at a few hotels on this road and they are all very similar in price and facilities and don't disappoint.

The location was very convenient and the room and stair way areas were all very clean. We hadn't realised we would be on the 4th floor and one of us was nearly 80! Breakfast was passable, more options for cereals would be appreciated, though there was fresh fruit. For London, good value accommodation

Ideal for a last minute booking. Great location. Quietish (inside the hotel was quiet), people walking by not so much so). I did manage to get a good nights sleep though.
Breakfast as you’d like, no waste as they cook it to your preference and what you’d would like.
Welcomed on the way in and received a goodbye on departure.

This hotel was very close to Paddington and Paddington station to get the tram. staff was polite. If you get the big bus, the drop off is about one block away from hotel. The neightbor seemed safe. Room service came everyday to replenish sheets and coffee/tea. Breakfast finished at 8:30 which was a little inconvenient for our family. But at least they had breakfast. Would definitely stay at this hotel again. Rooms were small but still could move around and bathrooms were even smaller. If a person doesn’t need the luxuries of a big tv, but want a safe place to stay. I would recommend Balimoral Hotel.

Our stay at Balmoral House Hotel was great. It was centrally located close to the trains and buses. The staff was friendly and helpful. They went extra helpful when we needed an early breakfast. We didn't rent a car, but in this location, it wasn't really necessary. Be aware though, that there is no elevator.

There are actually two hotels opposite one another on either side of the street, we stayed in the second Hotel which was fine, nice, clean rooms and more spacious rooms than many places I have stayed in in London. There are no staff on hand, other than cleaners, in the second Hotel.. reception, breakfast etc is in the main Hotel, but none of those things actually mattered. Breakfast ends quite early though and we never made it.....

The Basics - nothing more

I just wanted somewhere to sleep and to have breakfast conveniently located in town. The Balmoral did that but it is basic. The bed would have been too small had I been much above six foot. The toilet was uncomfortably cramped. It also smelled but I am unhygenic enough to do without a shower for one night. Breakfast was the best bit but there was a queue when I left the breakfast room.

The room was as advertised, three twin beds. The towel bar as well as the toilet paper holder were semi-detatched from the wall and seemed like it would fall off. The shower head holder in the shower was broken so the shower head would fall with the slightest touch. The breakfast staff and the housekeeping staff were friendly and helpful, the front desk staff were abrupt and not particularly welcoming or helpful.

The location is excellent for walking to the Paddington Station which is a central hub from the airport and other transportation lines.

It was tight for just two of us. But who visits London to sit in a hotel room!!! Less than a five minute walk to paddington station, a 19 minute walk to Hyde park, the location could not be beat.

Bathroom is the most tiniest I have ever seen , shower cubicle just about fitted you in and the shower head didn’t fit into the holder so you had to hold it to shower. Disappointing, frustrating. Will not return.

First, this place has no lifts, and they offered me no assistance in taking 2 suitcases and a backpack up 4-5 flights of stairs to my room.

My sleep was disrupted several times during my stay - you could hear vehicles' motors, and each metal piece they ran over on the street, clearly from my 4th floor room. I could also hear much of what was going on in the next room through the wall.

The bathroom is ridiculously small - I had to maneuver around the sink just to use the toilet, and again to get into the shower. The shower is quite small - I'm 6 ft. tall with wider shoulders, and kept the door open for showering because I could barely get around otherwise.

Breakfast was good, but they ended service at 8 am or something and wouldn't let me have it the second day. What 3 star hotel ends breakfast at 8 am?!

The front desk is in another building across the street. You have to ring the bell to be allowed in. While the young man at the desk was polite, it was extremely disappointing that they don't provide the guests disposable razors or shaving kits. Again, what 3 star hotel doesn't provide those?

The property is close to Paddington station. Which is great for the Heathrow express and the London underground. They dont serve breakfast. But this is not a problem as you have so many cafes and places that do close by.The biggest asset for the Balmoral house is the staff. Who are wonderful ,friendly and very helpful

This is a great budget option. The room was small but did fit 2 adults and 3 kids fine (we only used it as a base to sleep in - too busy out and about in London). Breakfast was basic but plenty for us.
The shower and toilet were fitted into cupboards which was ok, but would have preferred a sink in with the toilet rather than having to go into the rooms to wash hands.

It was amazing to stay here.. close to amnesties and the owner is friendly and kind. We arrived early in the morning ie 7am and check in was suppose to be at 2pm. Even though we ate breakfast in the hotel opposite it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. This was definitely value for money and was handy for transport, despite the strikes!

When I read the \"Excellent\" reviews posted here, the first thing that comes to mind is that these reviews must be some how from people related to the owner. This is probably the worse property that we've ever stayed!! The only thing good about this hotel is that it is conveniently located. Period. There is no lift, and you must haul all your bags through stairs just a bit wider than 2 feet. We are older people, and we had to drag our bags up and down more that 54 steps, with staff watching but no help at all. An old lady that looks like the owner is very rude, and another lady in charge of breakfast, even worse. Talking about breakfast, when I see people here complimenting breakfast must be that they did not have dinner the night before. A couple of microwaved \"fried\" eggs, another couple of bacon strips (the only good thing in the breakfast) and a tiny portion of white beans that tasted like... well, like nothing. Only in London this hotel can charge above 160 GBP a day and still remain open.

This is London and if you are North American and are expecting a big room with air conditioning then be prepared to spend the big bucks. Rooms were basic and small but beds were comfortable and the hotel was clean. Location was excellent, steps away from paddington station. There were lots of restaurants in the area. We ate at 4 restaurants in the area and all were very good. We were only in our rooms to sleep and they were fine. Would stay there again

Just great!

It was great! Very nice staff, very cozy and comfortable room and house in Genderal. It looked very nice. It was not noisy at all even though it's in the middle of London.
The only thing that could be complained about is that the bathroom was very tiny but still totwusable. It's an amazing value for that price! It was close to the park and train / metro stations as well. Next time I visit London, I know where to stay.

Ok room, but very rude member ofstaff at breakfast

Check-in went well, the room was ready early allowing us to drop our cases and explore London. The room was good for the money we paid.
We had a family room for 5 on the ground floor in their second building, this wold have been fine except there was a large security light pointed directly at the window, lighting up their sign and hotel front. The curtains were not blackout and this meant it was like daylight at 10.30pm. We spoke to the guy on the counter on the first morning who said he would speak to management and ask them to turn the light off before 10pm. This didnt happen with the light still being on at gone 10:30pm, preventing us for getting to sleep.
Breakfast was limited but ok. However on our third morning the lady in charge was incredibly rude to the guests arriving in the dining room. They ran out of bacon, she was ordering people to sit down, telling people they could only have egg and beans, asking people to leave as soon as they put their knives and forks down - overall just rude!

Arrived at the hotel which is situated in a great place in Paddington a couple minutes from the tube station. Once there there a lovely male staff member that attended to me providing me with a clean well room.

I was informed that breakfast is from 06:30 - 08:30 which meant I had to rise early on a weekend to have breakfast across the road. Not great if you desire to lay in.

As the TV didn’t work I went over and asked the receptionist who was a male to look at my TV which he did but there was still a problem with it. On returning the second time I was directed to the owner of the hotel who when I spoke to assertively proceeded to shout with an aggressive tone become quite defensive about my complaint. This was abusive and totally disgusting and unacceptable behaviour. The male receptionist that gave me my room key looked awkward and shocked at this woman’s response. This literally left a bad taste in my mouth and spoilt my entire day resulting in me deciding to leave London that very same evening Which meant I paid for two nights but stayed for one.

On leaving nothing was said, no apologies for the TV not working and the owner and whom I presume was her daughter the manager never said a word. They took the key and that was it. Never ever will I stay in this hotel again. There are others for the same price in just as good a location. On the breakfast timings, room across the road, abusive customer service I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.

My Wife, 5 year old son and I arrived at 10.45pm on a Friday. We were immediately welcomed in a genuine and kind way by the owner and the really kind receptionist Flavio, who seemed to always be at the hotel, and was happy and polite. The breakfast was nice, with plenty of choice of either a set cooked breakfast or fruit and croissants. We were only there for 2 days but it felt like we were staying with friends by the last day. The room was compact, but had everything we needed. We wanted to visit some museums after we had checked out and the hotel were happy for us to leave our bags with them while we went to explore. As it was Halloween the staff also gave my son sweets, which he liked. We chose the place because it was the cheapest in the area, but we would definitely come back here if we need to come to London again.

The check in time was much later than Expedia indicated. The room was in a building across the street and up 6 flights of narrow stairs. The indoor temperature was about 85 degrees on a 72 degree day and it never cooled down. The maids were also not finished cleaning the rooms, even after their stated checkin time (which was 2 hours after Expedia’s time). The bathroom is the size of an airplane bathroom. It was quiet though.

Cheap and central, but don’t expect good service.

Wi-Fi didn’t work on our stay, and neither did the phones either. Very few amenities, although we did expect that considering the cost. Service wasn’t great, and when we had my mum come to use the bathroom we first were almost forbidden by the people working at the hotel. They forbade a guest from using a bathroom in our room, which is absolutely absurd to us. If you’re tight on a budget and need a central location, this might work, but the rooms will be hot unbearably hot during th summer months so be warned.

BEDBUGS Absolutely worst experience I’ve ever had a hotel and I travel about 3 months out of the year so I’ve stayed at plenty hotels. It was fine at first the check in guy did his best and was helpful but literally everyone else was rude. After two days here I noticed bites on my arms and I assumed they were from mosquitoes well big mistake. Turns out they have bedbugs at this property. I saw them with my own eyes and even managed to get a picture of one. I informed the owner and first she said she’d move us to another room then she said she’d check the room instead and said she wouldn’t move us. She was also a racist claiming that Indian travelers brought the bedbugs when she has no way of knowing that. She told us either we stay in our bug infested room or we pack our “trash” and leave immediately, it was 7am. That’s not the worst part she was extremely disrespectful toward me and I’m not one who allows other to disrespect me when I have been polite the entire time. We ended up getting into a screaming match in the lobby while waiting for a refund for the nights we would not be staying. She called me dirty and lazy also told my 15 year old sister to shut her mouth. I was so close to physically fighting her because she was such a disrespectful and disgusting person. Never in my life have I been spoken to like that. Do not stay here you will save some money but when you have to spray your home for bed bugs you’ll wish you’d spent a bit more. Sleeping in the street is better.

Upon checkin I was told that my reservation had been canceled due to some issue with my card although I had reserved through Expedia. I did not receive an email notification. After several minutes of angst I was told that I could have the room I had reserved after all. Not a good experience. The room itself was clean but dingy and not well appointed, with depressing lighting quality. Bathroom had been updated and was pleasant enough.
