Food was horrible we had an issue with a waiter that had cussed at my 10 year old son all because he couldn’t shut off ice cream machine he called him a cabron. We had to tell 3 different people manager waiter and concierge before anyone approached us about situation which was 3 days after later that week we caught same guy drinking behind the bar on the job. Not enough wait staff at bars constantly they were running out of cups for drinks we were sent away or ignored. Also throw up floated the pool for 2 days straight. The gym had only 3 machines that worked and at that they wouldn’t stay on! Shows where not that great it was very hot in the theater no ac. I will never stay there again and for what we spent we deserved better

Others all inclusive offer natural juices, this's the first resorts that won’t offer natural juices.

The only thing my family and I enjoyed was the pools. The “premium” room for check in was moderate, after Check in it felt like an uphill battle. We informed the staff of multiple issues and they acted as if it wasn’t a big deal and would deal with it eventually. Had to complain multiples times for something to get fixed. The food pallets do NOT make sense. Almost the exact same thing ever. Single. Day. The music was provided from the cocobongo booth and it would constantly throw the vibe off. There is always throw up in the pools and not so nice staff. So many room issues. If you book here just be prepared for such.

Overall, I had a great stay at this hotel in Cancun and would recommend it to others. The food was excellent, the restaurants offered plenty of variety, the pools were beautiful, the drinks were great, and the overall atmosphere was fun and relaxing. Most of the staff members were friendly and helpful, which made the experience enjoyable.

The reason I’m giving this hotel 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 is because I experienced a few issues with the rooms. When I first checked in, I asked if it would be possible to stay near my brother and sister-in-law. I was told that because they had paid for a beach-view room and I had booked a standard room, we would be placed in different areas of the hotel. While I understood the explanation, it was disappointing since we were traveling together.

When I got to my room, I discovered that there was no TV remote and, more importantly, the door lock was not working. This made me feel uncomfortable and unsafe. The next morning, I spoke with the front desk, and they were very understanding and accommodating. They quickly helped me move to another room that was much closer to my family, which I truly appreciated.

The second room was definitely an improvement and had a working lock, but one of the lights in the room wasn’t functioning. While it wasn’t a major issue, it was another example of small maintenance problems that could have been addressed before guests arrived.

Despite these inconveniences, I genuinely enjoyed my stay.

La ubicación de la propiedad es buena. La mayoría del personal es amable y cortés aunque algunos de los encargados de recibir en el buffet y mesero/a mostraron una actitud arrogante y poco profesional. Al hacer las reservaciones para la cena no dejarse atrapar por las “promociones” o invitaciones a desayunar, es una estafa/fraude.

We had a great stay and experience. The room was beautiful and the balcony overlooking the lagoon was picture perfect. We loved the helpful staff and the included drinks. The food was okay, breakfast was best. There is an Italian restaurant, Mexican restaurant, and seafood restaurant. If you stay 7 nights, you are allowed to book 4 reservations at the restaurants for a seated dinner otherwise you can go to the buffets unlimited times. The pools were wonderful. There is beach access but watch out for red flags due to sargassum. We were not allowed to swim in the ocean in front of the hotel. There is no need to get a rental car, use the uber app to get ~$5 taxis everywhere. There is a timeshare presentation for Barcelo that seems like a good idea but it is optional to attend, they gave us a free bottle of tequila for attending. There are free entertaintment shows for the family every night such as magic and circus. There are free activities every hour 9qm-4pm. They gave us unlimited free bottles of water, chocolate, nuts, beer, pop, etc in our room mini fridge. It was so affordable to book this hotel and it was totally worth it. Thanks Occidental Tucancun

El check in fue desastroso, nos demoraron una hora y media.
La habitación no tenía agua fría, solo salía agua hirviendo imposible de usar. Luego pedimos cambio de habitación y se negaron. Arreglaron el agua y cada mañana amanecimos sin servicio de agua en absoluto. Realmente un desastre. Desorganizados y además muy desagradable el trato del personal. A excepción de Carolina en el Rest. Claraboya: muy atenta y amable siempre.
Deja mucho que desear este hotel siendo de una cadena tan prestigiosa como Barceló.

Llegamos a las 3 pm y había una fila enorme para darnos la habitación, a las 5 nos dieron dicha habitación nadie nos dio ni agua en las 2 horas de fila esperando en la piscina solo cervezas y agua de limón había para cenar fatal una fila para entrar al bufet y adentro solo 3 tipos de carne ,solo arroz blanco y poca muy poca variedad de alimentos el pan viejo y olía mal ,el desayuno estaba un poco mejor pero de veras en general hasta ahora a sido mi más amarga estancia en los más de 60 hoteles que e estado no lo recomiendo para nada la verdad es muy mala opción

We had no hot water the entire week. The repair guy came twice and said it couldn't be fixed. We asked for another room, but the room they gave us was worse: no hot water, was even older than the one we had and the AC made a constant loud banging noise. We moved back to the old room. The food wasn't very good. The main buffet was closed and moved to the theatre, not ideal for food service. The staff was nice, though not very helpful. The pools were dirty. and some broken/missing tiles. I have been to roughly 10 resorts in Mexico. This was the second-worst. Desperately needs upgrading.

The property outside is actually really pretty.. the grounds were kept very nice!! Thats about the only good thing I have to say about this resort. The rooms need renovated badly, they don’t clean them well either. There is zero shade on the beach at all. The lobby needs updated and actually the whole resort needs renovated. The reserving dinners daily is ridiculous and if you don’t go down early enough to reserve your nightly dinners at one of three restaurants you’re out of luck and stuck eating the VERY subpar buffet, which had flies flying around and landing on all of the food every time we were there, NONE of the food at any of the restaurants or the buffet was very good at all.. we actually got sad when the reservations would get full and HAD to eat at the buffet.. even though the restaurants were NOT much better. The staff was ok.. not the friendliest.. the drinks at the poolsides were not good and they didn’t know how to make a lot of regular easy drinks. The pools weren’t very clean and just not appealing to swim at all. The tv in our room worked about half the time and the water didn’t work for hours one of the days, we couldn’t flush the toilet or use the sink. We've stayed other places in Cancun and thought we would give Occidental Tu Cancun a try but sadly we wont be back. I feel like this may be harsh but I am being honest, my husband had much more harsh things to say so thought I would do the review. Stay elsewhere.

The place was ok. Most of the staff was friendly. They turned us away at the buffet one night because of our hair and what we were wearing. Our hair is all naturally curly and that seemed to be what he was referring to. We were also just wearing shorts and tank tops. He made us go change in order to eat dinner, stating it was policy, although the dress code was just shirts and shoes and we were more than dressed appropriately. The security guard also knocked on our door at 4 am, which was unusual. We did not answer it, as we were 3 girls alone in the room. At checkout, my friend had taken off her bracelet and tossed it because it had been on too tight. We were not told that we had to turn in the bracelets in order to be allowed to leave the property and they charged her an extra fee, as we couldn't retrieve the bracelet from the trash can in the hotel room. Would not go back and would not recommend it to others.

I honestly would not stay at the Occidental Tucancun again. The only real positive was the staff — everyone we interacted with was friendly, helpful, and hardworking. Unfortunately, the resort itself was a huge disappointment.

The biggest issue was the food. For an all-inclusive resort, the dining options were extremely limited, and most of the food tasted bland and low quality. Even the buffet food was often stale — the bread was so hard it was practically cracking teeth. The only decent things we had the entire trip were the omelets and tacos, and even those were just okay.

The reservation system for dinner restaurants made no sense. Reservations would fill up quickly or “run out,” leaving guests stuck eating the buffet every night. That defeats the purpose of paying for an all-inclusive experience.

Another major issue: we saw roaches during our stay, which was honestly unacceptable for a resort.

Also, there was no nighttime access to the pools, which made the resort feel boring after dinner since there weren’t many activities or options late at night.

Overall, the staff deserves credit, but the food quality, cleanliness concerns, and lack of accessibility/amenities made this stay very disappointing. I would definitely rethink booking here.

Check in was fairly long and painful. I would say we waited in line for an hour or so. We paid $300 to upgrade our room to an ocean view with a balcony, which we enjoyed (other than the sliding glass door being extremely difficult to open).
The 3 pools were nice, and seemed well maintained. The bartenders and ALL staff, including the helpful bellboys out front, were amazing and definitely made the trip better.
The food? We did not enjoy it. Not the buffets. Items were lukewarm, and repetitive. The main buffet appeared to be under construction, so maybe the food will be better when that is complete? With our room upgrade, the front desk offered to make a reservation for our second night, and we tried the Italian restaurant, which was delightful.
The drinks seemed sour initially, so we asked them to make the drinks sweet, which fixed our issue.
The seaweed out front is “in season” right now, but they did clean each morning.
If you are looking for a reasonably priced, sunshine filled vacation with below average food, and above average staff, this is the place for you!

DO NOT STAY HERE! Temu resort. Outdated, food is horrible, no air conditioning in the restaurants, you must stand in line every morning at 9am to book a reservation for one of their 3 restaurants that are sub par at best was at the timeshare desk. Old, sandpaper feeling bedsheets. The shower constantly fluctuates from good to scalding hot with no warning. Zero noise control. Loud hallways. Staff banging on doors with loud radios at all hours of the night. Loud street noise 24/7. Staff calls you at midnight with the wrong room number. You will get zero sleep. The pools close at dark. The beach closes at dark. They have a “snack bar” that consists of a mini buffet that is tasteless. The shows were pretty good. Most of the staff were nice. Alberto Cabrera was my favorite. The porters out front were not helpful. The front desk had attitude. Now let’s talk about the vultures out front when you first arrive that pretend to be staff that helps you find your room. They stand out front with a clipboard with every name arriving that day. Don’t be fooled! They will lie to you and tell you they want to serve you breakfast and talk about Mexican laws while you stay there. Lies! It’s a “timeshare” vacation club sales pitch. Maria, a sales vulture, would NOT leave me alone! They should have paid me to stay there! I told them at checkout I had a horrible visit. They ignored me and walked away. Location was bad. Nothing close. Just horrible! Other guests I talked to agreed with me.

It’s definitely a good place. However, if you are looking for a more luxury location this is probably not the place. It’s slightly dated, the buffets are crowded but the food was pretty good. There are 4 bars, 2 close at 6PM the other 2 close at 11PM. The lobby bar was packed and was one of the bars open until 11, the other one open late is sort of hidden. The place could use some renovations, and maybe more air conditioned cool spaces. Its quite a far walk from the main strip of the hotel zone (Coco bongo, Sẽnor Frog, etc.) but the uber is 10 minutes and only around $8

Overall, its a pretty good budget option but i found myself sort of wishing i had spent a bit more for a notably better quality resort .

The bathrooms were always gross and smelly and usually out of toilet paper and covered in pee. And toilet paper all over the ground. Food was very difficult because im allergic to wheat Luis Garcia helped alot but I was glutenized multiple times because nobody understood what I was asking reason we chose here is because they online said you had it having an area with food would be great. They do have gluten-free soya sauce and thickening agent could be Cornstarch. We always had a painter outside our door and now I have paint all over my shoes. We barely had a great sleep because we had laundry going 24/7 so unfair. There were cockroaches in our room eww. The entertainment was boring need better stuff and more of it. I wouldn't return to stay in felt like a burden and was laughed at because of my allergies which are serious. Iam still unwell because of all the gluten i ingested because people told me there wasn't any in i have a mouthful of sores. Also the elevator doors shut on my arm that hurt so bad I almost cried I had a bruise for 7 days and its still bothering me feel like I fractured it. I'll be getting an xray to make sure. Trying to tell staff but language barriers were very difficult

Occidental Tucancún has a lot of surface appeal, but the experience doesn’t quite live up to what you’d expect from the setting.

The first impression is strong—the lobby is genuinely beautiful, and the grounds are well-maintained and inviting. It gives you the sense that you’re about to have a relaxing, upscale stay. Unfortunately, that feeling fades pretty quickly once you get past the common areas.

The rooms are a major letdown. They feel closer to budget motel quality than a beachfront resort—dated, basic, and not particularly comfortable. It’s a noticeable contrast from the polished look of the lobby.

Service is another issue. While there are always exceptions, much of the staff came across as unfriendly, especially toward American guests. Even when making an effort to be polite and respectful, the interactions often felt cold or dismissive, which takes away from the overall experience.

Food is probably the weakest part of the stay. The buffet offers a very limited selection and leans heavily on low-quality, Americanized Chinese-style dishes that lack flavor and variety. Honestly, the food was just gross. There are three on-site restaurants, but they require reservations—even when they’re nearly empty—which makes dining unnecessarily inconvenient. It feels like they only prepare enough food for reserved guests, rather than accommodating demand.

Timing is also restrictive. The bars open late and close early, and there are no food options available after 9 PM

We stayed at this resort for 9 nights 4/9-4/18/26. The check in process was painfully slow and the front staff were not friendly. Upgraded to premium level which was not worth it. Room had no air conditioning and staff was not accommodating. Room was dirty and very outdated. Food at breakfast and lunch was poor and dinners were terrible. Spa was overpriced and massage was probably the worst massage I've had. Expedia only allows a short review but I would not recommend this resort to anyone.

Biggest con was they did not have fruity water upon arrival, but they did offer to serve you a drink on arrival downfall though there was no fruity water anywhere on the premises. I like going to Mexico for fruity water. The property is large. There are three pools. The adult pool has a lot of drunk people at times but that’s OK. It’s still nice. The kid pool have family pool gets the most hours of sun in April. Just the way the hotel is situated. I’m not sure if it’s a timeshare that they tried to sell us sounded like a timeshare and I don’t think they gave everyone the same time share deal that was a little bit of a downfall, but can’t blame them for trying. Aquasize at noon was delayed one day, which was irritating, but it’s OK because the following day the aqua size guy was amazing. Food is hit or miss à la carts were pretty decent, but it was difficult to book because you had to wait in line at 8 AM and the line didn’t open till nine and food was pretty much the same every day at the buffet, they are fixing the elevator in the one tower but overall that wasn’t too bad. We didn’t do too many of the entertainment, but Michael Jackson was amazing and so was the tenors and then swimming off the beach is pretty sweet deal as long as the waves aren’t crashing down on you too hard note there are fish in that water, but it’s sporadic to see them and occasionally they fly out of the water and try to stab you. Good shopping nearby. Cheap bus is accessible and easy to get to.

My family and I recently returned from a 5-night stay at Tucancun for what we had hoped would be a relaxing vacation. Shortly after settling into our respective 'Premium' level family rooms, we began to discover that both rooms suffered from a poor level of maintenance. Several of the rooms' amenities were not functioning including a bathroom vent, electronic safe and extremely slow sink drain. We also began to see several cockroaches crawling on the floor and on countertops during the night. The next day I reported these concerns to workers manning both the Guest Services and Premium Lounge desks who said they would have these issues addressed right away and asked me to wait for them at our rooms which I did. After waiting for more than two hours, it occurred to me that nobody was coming to assist so I begrudgingly continued on with my evening. The next morning after that I sent a message to the property contact via the Expedia messaging system and have not yet received a response.

While the resort has some good points such as decent food and pleasant workers, based upon the poor condition of our rooms and lack of follow through by staff I recommend that those planning a Cancun trip should look elsewhere.

This hotel was a huge disappointment from the moment we checked in. The room was dirty and felt very old and poorly maintained. The bathroom was especially bad—the toilet and sink made loud, unpleasant noises every time they were used, and the shower was visibly dirty.

My daughter’s room had a leak, and while maintenance did come to fix it, they left standing water behind as if it was our responsibility to clean it up. That was incredibly frustrating and unprofessional.

On top of that, the coffee machine was dusty, and the mini fridge was downright nasty. Basic cleanliness clearly isn’t a priority here.

To make matters worse, it took an entire day to get fresh towels, even after going to the front desk multiple times to request them. The lack of responsiveness and attention to guests’ needs was unacceptable.

Overall, this was a very poor experience, and I would not recommend staying here.

Occidental was just okay. The staff gets the highest rating. They seemed to be understaffed but the staff worked very hard and were friendly. You have to wait in line for a couple minutes to get into the buffet. The buffet was pretty basically and the same for the four days we were there. You have to wait until 11 a.m for the bars to open. the entertainment by the main pool was good

A bit rundown. Although exterior seems well maintained our room was very basic and badly needed an update especially the bathroom.
Staff are mostly friendly and helpful but front desk is understaffed and can be less than friendly at times. The check-in process is overly bureaucratic and time consuming and there is a constant stream of people needing to have their magnetic-card room keys reprogrammed as they quit working after a day or two.

Lunch and diner had some old food some times as well

No fruits for dessert on diner

No jelly nor warm milk for breakfast

Poor, very poor bread options on breakfast while you offer a lot of options on diner and lunch, this just does not make sense

We had a horrible experience at the italian restaurant, terrible service

I hope you improve because I would certainly stay there again

They need more help at check-in especially when there are large crowds coming in. Too long of lines. I also do not care for the way they book reservations for specialty restaurants! Only one a day- again with really long lines! Get to be your turn and they’re out of reservations and won’t let you book for the next day! Nice hotel but too many hassles-spend too much time in lines!

The buffet food was horrible. They make you line up at 9am to book the “a la carte” restaurants and the food with those isn’t much better. I got uber eats 3 of my 5 nights at the resort. I read reviews before selecting this resort and i cant help but feel completely lied to. People gave 4.5/5 and i can only assume they’ve been paid or never actually been to the resort. I talked to about 15 other groups staying here and they all said the same thing im saying right now. Save your money, stay at a different resort.

It is a Barcelo vacation club. Members have privileges we do not get. The room was nice and wait staff was nice. The front desk personnel were not very helpful and difficult to get in touch with. The food was not great but cultural. The reservation system is not good. We had to eat the buffet every day except day 1 where we had to do a sales presentation. Biggest downfall was the steps. It is built like a mayan temple. Long time members of Expedia and we were not impressed. Beach was nice but the ocean was too rough so maybe a different beach location.
