The buffet food was horrible. They make you line up at 9am to book the “a la carte” restaurants and the food with those isn’t much better. I got uber eats 3 of my 5 nights at the resort. I read reviews before selecting this resort and i cant help but feel completely lied to. People gave 4.5/5 and i can only assume they’ve been paid or never actually been to the resort. I talked to about 15 other groups staying here and they all said the same thing im saying right now. Save your money, stay at a different resort.

It is a Barcelo vacation club. Members have privileges we do not get. The room was nice and wait staff was nice. The front desk personnel were not very helpful and difficult to get in touch with. The food was not great but cultural. The reservation system is not good. We had to eat the buffet every day except day 1 where we had to do a sales presentation. Biggest downfall was the steps. It is built like a mayan temple. Long time members of Expedia and we were not impressed. Beach was nice but the ocean was too rough so maybe a different beach location.

The rooms were in okay condition, they were outdated and the a/c was pretty noisy . The staff were very accommodating for the most part, except for the breakfast staff , a few of them were rude for no absolute reason.
The amenities were okay, but the views were very beautiful! The beach is beautiful, and the pool staff were nice and accommodating, along with the bartenders .

This place is very very outdated. You have to take a quick shower because the water temperature changes quickly, from warm to burning hot. Long lines at the buffet & their food is not great at all, about the same everyday. Empty trays of food & they don’t replenish it right away.

They run out of beer cans at the outside pool, entertainment outside isn’t great, no jacuzzi , no umbrellas on the beach.

The only thing that this hotel has is a beautiful beach. I definitely don’t recommend this hotel. Spend a little extra & don’t make the same mistake like I did.

The resort is nice enough. The worst part is reservations for non-VIP at the restaurants were impossible to get. The desk opened at 730am and by 8am there were none left or maybe one at 930pm. So we were forced to eat at same buffet all week which made me feel a little jipped. Also, and this feels like there's nothing to be done but our room had a balcony and the bed faced away from the balcony. The balcony itself faced directly into someone else's room and their bed. So when I was out looking at ocean I could turn my head and see directly into the neighbors in bed. Such terrible design! There is no drink service at the pools or beach (there are bars open but no wait staff) which was also disappointing. But there were plenty of chairs, the entertainment was better than some places we've been, and it was pleasant enough for the price point.

The furniture in the room had mold in the cushions and it always smelled musky when we'd get into the room.There are no umbrellas at the beach and the palm trees are dead so they have no leaves to offer shade. The beach chairs are pretty old and weathered/broken and there are so few that if you dont get down to the beach early enough, you're not going to get a chair. The dishes in the buffet are dirty, and it was actually hard to get food. It was odd but its like no one knew where lines were so it was a crazy free for all on the food that was out.. it took a long time to refill empty food bowls on the line for guests, and there was always a wait to get into the buffet. It was actually frustrating trying eat there. Definitely not worth the money paid.

We had to go off the resort for food and drinks that actually tasted good. The only good thing was their Circus show.

We were told the room was so horrible because that is what Expedia buys when they buy the rooms each year.. This whole experience has made me rethink wanting to book anything through Expedia if the quality of the room is effected by the lower rates offered.

Unfortunately,the condition of the room was not very clean. as the building is quite old. there were many areas that clearly need repair, and several things were left broken and unattended. the air conditioning did not work in the main lobby and the restaurant. the worst issue was the strong and unpleasant smell in the bathroom. the odor was coming from the drain, and it was so bad that we had to cover it with towels in order to use the bathroom. in addition, the swimming pool did not appear to be cleaned properly. the surface was slippery,and we almost fell, which raised serious safety concerns. another inconvenience was the dining reservation system. in order to have dinner, we had to line up before 7;30am. just to make a reservation, which was very stressful and unreasonable for guests. Overall, the hotel atmosphere was extremely disappointing and not something we would like to remember. this stay did not meet our expectations at all.

The staff was very friendly and helpful, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience fell short. The pool could have been much cleaner, and the rooms were in poor condition with a noticeable moldy odor. The doors and shower were old and worn down. To make matters worse, the elevator was broken— the 5th floor button didn’t work, so we had to go to the 6th floor and walk down.

1st room ac didnt work, we were switched to another one, that was even worse to be a premier room, you had to turn on all faucets ar once to be able to get hot water, you had to turn all 2 light switches in order to get the bathroom light to work, to watch to tv u had to scroll to 10 channels before you were able to watch tv, the sheets on the bed were not soft at all, sink in restroom smelled very bad everything you will use it, ph never worked to call operator or room service, food always cold, DO NOT STAY HERE!

This was a perfect location for a quick family getaway. Great value and met our expectations. Our room and parts of the hotel could use some renovations, but it was clean and comfortable. There was always plenty of food with a decent variety of options - nothing too fancy, but good and plenty of it.

I wanted to like this resort but honestly there is more to dislike than like. Check in was great Jose ensured that we got to check in a little early and even set up a nice surprise as it was our honeymoon. That was probably the best part of our stay and the bartender at the adult pool. Other than that everything was bad. Housekeeping kept forgetting to clean our room even with the sign. Then would leave things such as trash and old towels. Sometime they did not even replace the towels and I had to find them to obtain them myself. Our shower water would not drain so it was like showering in a puddle of water. The food was absolutely horrible. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were limited options with no taste or seasoning. The rice gave off a burnt taste, the mashed potatoes were instant, the chicken was not fully cooked. I ate out 4 times in my 6 day stay because I just could not take it anymore which was a waste of the money spend to have all inclusive. Then the 3 restaurants they had were more of a variety but still tasted terrible and the process for reserving them was terrible. You could reserve the restaurants between 7:30 and 11:00 but by 10 am they were booked because they are so small. They had one person taking reservations so if you wanted to reserve you needed to make sure you inconvenienced yourself to be up by 7:00 am to stand in the line. They were not worth it at all. The entertainment was okay not the best I’ve had in Cancun. I would never pay for premium here.

Everything about that place was amazing and I also think it pretty affordable if you wanna do a quick weekend get away as a solo travelers. Super safe, but still be self-aware. The staff was so nice and helpful with everything..That was my favorite part was how nice the staff was. Everyone at the bar was super nice .Every time I stepped out housekeeping always kept my room clean. The food is probably the only thing I would give a C- the food wasn’t bad but it also wasn’t all that good…. but that did not take away from the fact that my overall experience was super amazing.

The elevators kept breaking down, we had to use the stairs several times. The curtain attachment in my room 6045 was damaged hence l could not completely close my curtain and light was getting into my room in the morning. The status of the elevator was terrifying l felt it could jam or fall at any time. Serious renovations need to done on the elevators to rooms 6040s

We had multiple rooms . The rooms and staff were clean.
The main challenge our room had was the key card was not working the till the 2nd day mid day , and always required spending (wasting) 30 mins for security/hotel staff to get the door opened . Seems multiple families on the 7th floor had same issue.
Buffet Food was good , but was very repetitive . The restaurant (Seafood Dinner) was very good. They actually helped accomodate a 15 person group and borthday celebrations with cake.

We arrived around 9-10pm and got to our room. It smelled strongly of mildew and bleach. We immediately went back to the desk to request a new room or pay for an upgrade. With no manager the attendant couldn’t help us and asked we come back the next day. We moved rooms the next day which was an improvement and dealt with the faint smell, though the hallway then took over. The service was good overall. The buffet was so-so daily and they did have specials on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which was very nice and thoughtful. With that being said, the order in which you wait for a table was AWFUL. Every time. People did not want to stand in line and wait their turn, often hovering over the attendant. Checking in and being issued a ticket to be called would’ve helped everyone involved. Additionally, the breakfast was a mess almost always with the omelette skillet in the center clogging up the rest of the trays. The pools were nice and the daily activities were fun and greatly appreciated. Love they keep us involved. They even gave kids presents in Christmas Day. However, there was little attention paid to the seating around the pools and beach, chairs often ended up in disarray. Guests put up their own umbrellas, which resulted in one even falling over onto me. Overall, older place though I did notice repairs and upkeep of individual rooms.

The buffet was the smallest I had ever seen. You would wait in line outside the door for an hour or so and then when you got inside you could wait another hour in the buffet line. Terrible food. Mexican restaurant didn’t even serve Mexican food. They gave you a choice of two different dishes and neither were Mexican. Worst food I had ever eaten in a hotel. The towels in our room were blood stained. Horrible experience and will never return to this hotel ever again

The moment I arrived for my initial vacation, I was trying to be sold for my next vacation. This completely turned me off and lowered my valuation of the experience. It was aggressive and pervasive and I lost the appeal of staying here again. I could tolerate the broken elevator, but the sales staff are too much.

The staff were amazing!! The public grounds and pools were well-kept. The meals and selection of food at the buffet were adequate - but service was always great. The pre-reserved dinner in the Mexican restaurant was terrific. Our Deluxe beachside 2-bedroom room needed a LOT of repairs and updating. Ceiling falling in over the kitchen area due to a water leak. Sliding glass doors to the terrace needed a lot of muscle to open. No air conditioning controls. Beds were comfortable though. All-in-all the experience was decent, but not deluxe (admittedly, the price somewhat reflected that as well).

I would rate this resort Good.

The food was the same each day at all the buffets. The selection was not great. And the food trays were not filled often, so lots empty at times. I was shocked to see this resort had no bacon.

Beach - no protection from sun, but yes lounge chairs.

Pool - great pools and good selection to find a spot.

Hotel - needs a remodel very old but do the job for us.

Rooms-they were fine as we had a standard room only. Everything worked great in the room.

I would recommend this if you’re looking for budget friendly and food is not a concern for you.

Location is really close to the night strip and market only $1 for bus and takes like 4 mins or so and the busses run constantly.very safe to get to and from. Hotel is a little run down where things just seem to look dirty/or with grime. Beach was fabulous- can walk for hours in white sand plus the water is various shades of blue and teal - spectacular really.

I’ve stayed at this hotel years ago and it was nice. This time around it was horrible. Staff, food, and drinks. The bartender was rude and asked us to move to the corner. I will never stay here again. The manager did try to “fix” things the 14 hours before my flight was set to leave.

The Hotel looks nice on the pictures, so does the pool and outside areas, however the rooms are outdated.
The staff is not friendly, I believe it might be due to the fact that Cancun is a party zone and the staff is used to dealing with drunks or whatever, but the staff, specially the security and bellboys are rude and not friendly at all.
Beware of the \"free perks\"they offer so they can trick you into buying a membership for a time share. This is very aggresive and they use all the possible tactics to lure you into their trap. We had to change the room due to humidity in our room. After I complained and requested a room change, they just painted over the humidity stain and we had to wait until the next day to have another room.
There is a LOT of noise in the north area of the hotel due to a water treatment plant that is running 24/7 and it is very annoying and hard to get a good night sleep due to the constant noise. The reservation only restaurants are ok, however at the italian one, we had the worst pizza ever! to be honest gas station pizza is better.
I would not come back again.

The room had yellow caution tape all on the outside balcony, due to the building crumbling right above my room. The door handle broke off as I entered the room, literally the handle was in my hand detached from the door. The outside of the front of the room was flooded due to the ceiling leaking, so I was walking over puddles of water as I exited the room. Reported all of theirs to front desk and housekeeping within minutes of checking in nothing was done. Went to use restroom in room and was greeted by roaches crawling everywhere. Took them 24 hours to move me to a different room.

I stayed at the Occidental Tucancún for five days, and overall, the experience left a lot to be desired.

Food: Needs improvement. The buffet food was consistently lukewarm and lacked flavor. Most dishes tasted old and under-seasoned. I highly recommend making reservations at the Mexican restaurant onsite—it’s the best option available. However, be prepared to line up early (around 7 a.m.) just to secure a spot. It’s unfortunate that you have to spend part of your vacation standing in line just to get a decent meal.

Room: Needs improvement. My friend’s first-floor room had roaches, and her balcony was taped off due to visible decay on the level above. In my room, there was no screen on the balcony door, which felt like a safety issue, especially for families with children. When I moved the wall mirror, the blow dryer fixture actually fell out of the wall! The hot water temperature also fluctuated drastically—from lukewarm to scalding in seconds. On top of that, my room key deactivated daily, requiring frequent trips to the front desk.

Service: The service was inconsistent. In the restaurants, there were only two servers handling the entire dining area, so drinks often went unfilled—we ended up getting our own several times. The timeshare staff were also very aggressive, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy the resort.

Spa: Excellent. The one bright spot of my stay. We booked massages, and they were fantastic—professional, relaxing, and worth every penny.

Service was great, very clean, and safe! We upgraded our room once we got there and the rooms with a view were nicer inside the room as well as with a better view. The rooms without an ocean view overlook the top of a map and it's an eyesore. Those rooms are also a little dated. Upgrading was definitely worth it! The second room was beautiful! The buffet was excellent, and the service and staff were amazing. Not all the shows were entertaining, sometimes they were just karaoke night. The live music was the same band every night, so it got a little tiring. The beach was great, clean, no seaweed, and a lifeguard on duty. The loungers under the palm trees were lovely to relax in. The sun umbrellas do not protect from all UV light. We learned that the hard way. The people were so nice and friendly! Overall we had a great stay and we will be back in the future!

Very disappointed with my stay. The service was poor, and the food quality was terrible. The staff were not helpful and barely spoke any English, which made communication very difficult. The pool area was dirty and not well maintained. There were dead bugs in the pool. Definitely not worth the money — I would not recommend this hotel.

The staff is very courteous, but the hotel doesn’t provide activities, the buffet is the same food every day, it’s all about fish chicken and pork. The rooms need a little upgrade

The room was clean and staff were very nice. The food quality sucked. Juices were watered down, the food choices were limited and to make it all worse, the was a large group of students (hundreds of students) holding a convention and that made everything a waiting game for anything. Long lines to get a drink or whatever. If I would have known, I probably would have changed the dates. No communication from the hotel.

I had a wonderful stay! The hotel was beautiful, clean, and relaxing. The staff were friendly and attentive, always making sure we were comfortable. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect for a peaceful getaway. Everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out overall, a great experience. I would definitely come back again!

The staff was fantastic, the property itself is not I repeat is not ADA compliant. Not all of the facilities were accessible because of the stairs with no ramps for a Mobility scooter sales company. The adult pool had 10 steps to it. Only the kitty pool was accessible.
Specialty restaurants are good the buffets however we’re just awful

Not easily accessible for those with ambulatory issues. Lots of steps. Once in the floor that room was on there were steps to get into room. There is a step to get into bathroom. Very dated; in desperate need of updates. Bed was terrible; at least change that if can’t do decor.Toilet flushed like an airplane bathroom. A/c smelled musty. Mini bar was stocked with some free refreshments. TV only had two English channels both of which were news. Balcony and view in 2004 was great! One of my biggest pet peeves is the restaurant reservations; as I often travel solo and don’t know when exactly I’ll arrive to the hotel making reservations is impossible and to turn a patron away when you have open tables simply because of a reservation is silly. I’m also one person so it’s not like I’m going to sit there all night. The buffet option that didn’t require a reservation had salad, some noodles and some cold salads (think pasta salads and chicken salad) which wasn’t particularly appetizing or filling. The poolside bar only had one bartender who would randomly leave so drinks took some time. The pool was nice. There are some loungers IN the pool. The aerobics were fun. The music was good. Don’t have any issue with finding seats or people saving seats. Staff at the lobby bar was good. They have some snacks out throughout the day. There is an MTS rep onsite; if you do their shuttle it’s super convenient.

The Ocean View is out of a dream! Staff like Juanjo at the front desk, Maria Can by the pool and Segundino in Claraboya Restaurant made out experience feel like home. I love this place, the best cantaritos in Cancun I will say! Thank You to all the staff I didn't mention because all of them were great!
