The room was clean , the staff was friendly, we didn't get to use the pool, and we did not eat breakfast. We were in Gatlinburg for Meatstock26 and the breakfast did not accommodate for the carnivore life style. Luckily we had our own food and did fine. I would have liked to use the pool, but time did not permit. We were told however that both pools were kept warm. We would stay again if we ever return.

The staff was wonderful the indo pool area and jacuzzi were closed due to a recent fire.And they were waiting on electrical wire to repair that section.I took it up and running again outdoor pool was open. The best part was the creek running along the back side is our room with the balcony the only issue is with their parking situations

Check-in was confusing because they just had a fire and set-up a temporary front desk. Staff acted like they didn't care whether you stayed there or not even though you already paid them and there was no pool or restaurant access due to the fire. Place felt safe, but noisy late into the night.

Staff was very friendly, room was clean, and comfortable. The hotel had recently had a fire, so some things were down for repair, but didn't effect our stay. Hotel was within walking distance to the center of town, and there is a free shuttle bus that ran every 20-30 minutes that drops off right in front of the hotel. Would definitely stay here again.

The motel was great the staff was great but I do not understand let me make this clear I do not understand why you cannot assign a parking spot if it's room 100 then put you got a parking spot at 100 or just one you got room 422 make it 4:22 batch it's very simple we could not even park at our motel. At all and I'm disabled we had to park at the motel right beside St James because there was no parking

The hotel smelled terrible, there was a fire that closed some amenities that we were aware of before checking in. Our room was dirty and had several bugs in it. Our door didn’t close completely allowing sun light and smoke to fill our room. And the staff in the office were very rude and made it seem like everything was our fault when we tried to talk to them about our concerns.

They had a fire the night before our check in so there was no indoor pool to use and also no breakfast prpvided & without cable tv & wifi due to the fire. Overall we had a really good experience though.

No breakfast, there were pic of a food area which led me to believe there was breakfast but it was alacart. The pool had so much chlorine I could only stay 5 min. It was also crowded. They served beer in there cafe so at 7pm I went to bed because I had to be up super early and there were people screaming woohooo at the pool repeatedly. The room smelled so loud of cleaning fluids it made me sick. The door to the creek side balcony wouldn't open without force. The toilet kept clogging,they had no maintenance so we had to repeatedly plunge the toilet. No coffee service in the lobby. I stay in a lot of hotels and this was one of the worst.

This place may have been in its glory days back in the 90's. But the parking arrangments were the worst ive ever seen. Having to park in an alternate parking lot and walk up stairs was not ideal for me having a disability. Then both of our room keys didnt work. Then i was under the impression people werent supposed to smoke in their room but i could smell it from the balcony. Speaking of the balcony dont put to much of your weight on the guard rale because its missing a bolt. The bathrooms are very small so note that if your in a wheelchair or walker if you try to get a dbl queen room. The one plus side was the beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, we wont be staying again.

It was a nice experience got bed great hottub just great all around. The only complaint is we were told the cafe would be open daily 7 to 2. It wasn't. We were there Monday Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday morning it was never open. Getting breakfast in Gatlinburg is an act of Congress you wait half your day waiting in line to get in anywhere. I was hoping the hotel would of had something and they had nothing other than that it was a great stay.

We chose to stay here with our kids because I stayed there as a kid and wanted my kids to have the same memory of the pool that I did. We loved making that memory with them. And would stay there again but next time we will be more careful of how we book. We didn’t know we would be staying in the other side of the road for our trip and would have to drive to the pool since it was icey cold. Other than that part it was a 10/10

Multiple stink bugs in my room and stains on the the carpet, loud outside my room at all times, but that is due to other guests being inconsiderate and room being on the corner in a high traffic area. Overall it was pretty good.

Room was clean but dated. The staff was attentive and helpful. The smell of Marijuana was prevalent from other guest staying around us. The children running and being loud till late at night made it difficult to fall alseep. I wiukd suggest security to calm the situation down so those who want to sleep can.

Very Disappointed. My husband and I recently stayed here for an Anniversary trip and I’ll be quite honest our initial impression wasn’t great. The entire place smells old and musty. The rooms were extremely outdated (more so than they look online) & when we first opened up the door to our room it absolutely wreaked of pot & cigarettes from the people that had stayed there before us. Everywhere we walked it smelled like pot our entire stay.
We called the front desk to try and get switched to a different room because the odor was so bad.
No other rooms were open due to the busy weekend so they sent the maintenance man (whom was very very nice) up to our room to give us a can of disinfectant spray… which did nothing for the situation.
There were stink bugs in the room, the balcony was pretty dirty and the ENTIRE time we were there the place smelled like pot and cigarettes so we couldn’t go out on the balcony or open the windows. I will say on a positive note the beds were super comfortable and the Bathrooms although tiny were clean and other than smelling terrible and being very outdated & having multiple stink bugs the room was clean otherwise.
We won’t be back and I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who has any type of odor or lung sensitivities as you’ll just be smelling pot 24/7. Seriously not worth the money.

My creek side room was huge and was very clean with really high ceilings. I strongly recommend paying a little more for the upgrade. Given the great price I wouldn't take a star of for this, but I had to look very straight down to see the creek --- and my overall view was of a parking lot and a very high hill. I was on the 3rd floor so I think that a first room one would be ideal.The balcony was pretty nice.

I chatted with the manager for about an hour one day. He is awesome. The indoor pool is really nice but sometimes the hot tub is really crowded. But once during my recent stay no one was in either. The outdoor pool was closed when I was there but it's fairly nice.

It's in a perfect location I by a really nice and the entrance The Smoky Mountains Park.It's a 5 minute walk to the strip. I didn't eat there but the restaurant at the hotel was open for breakfast and lunch every day that I was there. However it gets great reviews about everywhere that I've seen.

Also I like that it is family owned instead of the money going to some corporation. For the price this is a really great value.

We found the Sidney James Mountain Lodge to be a comfortable stay for a reasonable price. We loved the quiet location and that our room faced the creek, giving us the soothing sound of running water. We appreciated the free on-site parking and the trolley service right to and from the hotel. We enjoyed an evening in the indoor pool. The poolside cafe provided us dinner one evening and breakfast one morning and was tasty and affordable. In all, we enjoyed our visit and look forward to staying there again!

This has been my go to place to stay when I visit Gatlinburg, which is usually 2 or 3 times a year. It is off the main strip so as to avoid all the noise and commotion but there is a free trolley stop at the lobby so getting back and forth is easy.
I have been using the Sidney James for many years now and it is generally in decent condition despite its age. But this visit was quite different. I was in room 106 from 24 December to 27 December 2025 and found this room to be in terrible condition. There were 3 long black hairs in the tub/shower area, 2 stuck to the wall. There were dents in the walls, no microwave, windows were dirty, and other issues that should not have been in a room rented to the public.

The parking is atrocious. The rooms are dingey and dark. The room wasn't cleaned at all during our stay. I went to the office to ask for more towels and asked if room service would be in for the dirty linens. The front desk clerk said no there's a bin to put them in.
The bathroom was disgusting and tiny.
The shower had a rust stain in it and when you stood in the tub it felt as though it bowed down.
I'll never stay there again.
