This is my 3rd time to the BP resort in Punta Cana but first at Esmeralda. I really enjoyed my visit. The property is well keep and beautiful. All of the common areas were clean. My room was large with enough space everywhere. The check in and a la carte reservation process was easy to use on the app. When I arrived the front desk was very friendly and helpful! Carla was the best! Every bar or restaurant that I went to was full of staff that were polite and took care of their guests. The food portions were filling and there was a good selection. The pool area was fun and lively. Alberto at the pool bar was a master at drinks and service. The gym had enough equipment to get a good workout in! The beach had enough chairs for guests. It was an easy walk to the beach and the beach was tended to by staff. It was annoying when people save their chairs but don't even come to use them until the afternoon. Overall I enjoyed my time there.

We love the pool. Also, the beach was perhaps the most amazing beach we have ever been on. Truly sugar like sand. We could walk for miles. Food overall was just OK. The buffet by the first pool was much much better than the buffet by the beach. Also, the bartenders at the pool bars were amazing. Alberto, Albi, Yadelina and the others made it so much fun. Entertainment was fun also. “King Kong “was a lot of fun. We kind of got suckered into going approximately 10 minutes outside of the resort for souvenirs, but it was simply a tourist trap. It was free transportation, but they just wanted to get you there so you would buy some things. Really enjoyed the local drink, mamajuana. Again, can’t stress enough how amazing the beach is here. Overall, a really nice stay

Our room with the swim out pool was great. Having the option for a low key swim was nice. The smaller pool was great and where we spent most of our time. Able to get chairs with an umbrella everyday. The staff was fabulous especially Angela by the pool. House Keeping kept our room really clean and always stocked with fresh towels and waters.

Rooms are dirty and smells bad, you have to give them good tip for changing sheets but it won’t help cause all blankets and pillows smells bad. Bathroom dirty, hotel front desk slow and helpless. I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s only 1 star all inclusive hotel. We escaped day earlier from this hotel. My family didn’t want to stay full.

Not 5 star luxury hotel, this was a 3 star. Most of the staff are unhappy and unwilling to serve/help or just plain do their job. Customer service is not their priority. Upon check in, it would have been nice to be given information on the grounds, a map, events that are happening, what sister hotels we can visit, how to make dinner reservations, etc.

Hotel was also not recently renovated as described on Expedia. Many areas of the room need renovations. Many of the pool/ bath towels had stains and holes. Smelly blankets and pillows that needed to be switched out. Not an all inclusive 5 star hotel as coronas and basic domestic/international beers are $5 each. I did not see any name brand liquor at any bars that didn’t require a up-charge. Also, extremely disappointing that they allow guests to wake up at 6am (which I will not do while on vacation trying to relax) to go claim all the beach and pool chairs by placing towels all over them. Many chairs were taken all day by these “towels” but no one using them. There should be designated staff providing towels and walking the guests to a pool or beach chair. This would avoid people claiming chairs in both areas in the case they decide to go to one vs the other.

The hotel grounds were beautiful but the lack of service/poor attitude from most of the staff made overlooking certain short-comings worse. With so many resort options, I can confidently say I have no reason to ever go back to this one.

We went to celebrate 20 year anniversary, we actually got married at the resort. We have been at this Bahia resort now a 4th time. Unfortunately it has really fallen off.
The good
- Beach is still beautiful
- The upgraded us to a beach view (Block 90, 3rd floor)
The not so good
- The shower in our room stunk of sewer, it was a strong odor. We told the concierge daily, and we were told every day a technician would come look at it. No one ever did.
- No Hot Water for the first 2 days
- Buffet is very basic, it used to be so much better
- We both god food poisoning
I sent a message to management while at the resort and they didn't do anything. Just the standard response \"We are disappointed, we will improve and provide better service in the future, hope you give us another opportunity\"
Standard responses with no personal follow up loses customers. This is my last vacation with Bahia

•Resort was beautiful and quiet compared to the other onsite resorts.
•Bar staff were excellent, “Yalla” was the best at the pool bar.
•Room service was fast for food and courteous when they arrived at my room.
•Cart drivers were very nice too.
•Buffets were tasty and the breakfast buffet manager always asked if the resort could do anything to improve my stay.

Cons:
•Never enough chairs at the pool or beach.
•Pool was very cold
•Beef meat cuts were unsatisfactory, even at the a la carte restaurants.
•Gift shop sunglasses were $49 USD for stuff you can buy at a dollar store back home.
•Oneida Dinner show was the worst part of my experience. The price was acceptable but the food was 0/10. I couldn’t eat anything there. It was pre-cooked, burnt, dry and looked like vomit. The Circus performers were entertaining and talented.

Overall, I had a great time and would 100% go back. I just hope they address these issues

But the room smellt really musky, turned out the filter was mouldy, room smelt like air freshener for 2 days, then it went back to musky (our clothes smelt like our room by the end).. beer is the best at the sportsbar, everywhere else its a little water down. Again, staff amazing. I always had enough water and snacks in my room. Was very well treated. Restaurants - buffet is good, and the italian and the steak house, everything else very mediocre. The music is insanely loud at the pool and the beach, all morning and afternoon, definitely not the place to take my elderly mom, but would've been a better vibe with my boyfriend (in our 30s). Over all, I'd give it a 10/10 given the price, but I've traveled to turks and caicos and other islands at 5 star hotels and this wouldn't come close to it. And next time with my mom specifically, I would book an adults only and maybe spend a little more. I would come back here with my boyfriend, though. Next door to us was a family with young kids and we could hear them through the night.. we talked to them and it helped a bit. But hey, sunshine, unlimited drinks, and a huge variety of food, it was a great get away.

Overall, this resort has been declining in it's accommodation, food, amenities and overall customer service. We as a family have been visiting the Bahia Principe 'LUXURY' Esmeralda since 2015 on and off.

The Esmeralda was initially a lovely experience with exceptional service and accommodation. The hotel claims to have been recently renovated and there was absolutely no evidence of this and certainly nothing 'luxurious' about the experience.

Room: We had two rooms as a family, traveling with teenage kids. Our room was dirty and the bathroom smelt of sewage most nights. The bathtub in our room looked like someone had tried to crawl their way out of it. There were cracks and dents with paint chipping, it could not be used.

Food: Absolutely horrible. The buffet was a repeat everyday with very little variation. The quality has declined significantly.
The à la carte restaurants were worse than the buffets.
We booked into the Indian restaurant one evening, looked at the menu and just walked out. There was nothing on the menu that even resembled Indian food, there were items such as Brioche & Croquette, yet the restaurant was called (Naan_meaning bread)

Unfortunately for us, this would be the last time we will visit the Esmeralda. The time spent with the family was priceless, however I honestly believe that the rating should be a 3.5 Star.
A 5 star rating is really overrated.

Pros: good polite serving staff, clean rooms, always had bottle water and beer available in room, restaurant food was good. Beach was nice and always had chairs and clean towels available. Felt safe always, even during transport from airport.
Cons: if you're an only english speaking america you will have trouble understanding a lot of the workers, including the front desk personnel. We had to go back and ask someone when our reservations were and several other questions because we were clueless. Im not saying it's the resorts fault, but something to consider. The buffet food for lunch and dinner is horrible. The desserts are a total catfish, but the drinks were all good. We had several bahama mamas and pina coladas.

I really wanted to love Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda, especially since the decor is stunning and the buggy service was great. However, the experience was far from \"Luxury.\"

Check-in was incredibly slow. Our room was dirty: sand on the floor, coffee stains, and hair/soap residue in the tub. I called the concierge three times.. no one came. We even found toothpaste on the sheets; staff tried to claim it was \"paint.\" By day two, the sand and tub still hadn't been cleaned.

The food situation was disappointing. Lunch is limited to the buffet or sports bar. There is beachside dining, but it’s just another buffet with very limited options. Worst of all, there were flies everywhere.. in the buffets and the restaurants.

Health warning for Punta Cana: the sand fleas are brutal. My child got big red bites on her arms and legs, and I got them on my hands and feet. They are very painful and itchy.

The atmosphere was off. Staff seemed unhappy and the vibe was average. The Christmas entertainment was not up to the mark. Sad & Boring.. a depressed elf and a Santa wasting time. Hardly anyone stayed to watch.

Overall, not worth it, especially for the festive season. You’re paying for a luxury name but getting poor service and bad hygiene.

The resort claims luxury, far from it. Restaurant bookings became messed up, we were 9 bookings were made for 6 multiple times. This led to situations two evenings at restaurants.
In the buffet roughly 50% of the items were not labeled. If you are vegetarian you are very limited to a few items.
The staff themselves are very good and helpful. Twice at restaurants and once at the buffet they claimed they had no tea bags.
My daughter was locked out of her room in 2 occasions and was forced to wait outside for someone to come and fix her lock, both times the batteries for the lock were changed.
On Christmas Eve there was a fixed menu, Fish or Meat. Again very surprised no vegetarian options.
I could go in with smaller issues but I would recommend go to another brand resort.

⭐ 1 Star – Very Disappointing Experience

I had a very disappointing stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda in Punta Cana. For a resort marketed as “luxury,” this experience fell far below expectations.

There were bugs crawling in our room, which was unacceptable and made the stay very uncomfortable. At the buffet, food labeling was poor, and vegetarian options were not clearly described.

At the live cooking stations, the same hot plate was used for all foods without cleaning between orders, and the same spoon was used across all vegetable dishes, resulting in meat being mixed into the vegetables. This is a serious concern for hygiene, dietary restrictions, and food allergies.

Communication was also difficult, as many staff members did not speak English, making it challenging to address concerns or ask basic questions.

Overall, this resort does not meet the standards expected of a luxury all-inclusive. I do not recommend this resort based on cleanliness, food handling practices, and overall service.

Clean and well-maintained rooms with cordial staff. Breakfast offered a good variety, and the dinner restaurants served excellent food with well-designed menus. The resort has two outdoor pools and is overall very well kept. Entertainment was enjoyable, with daily activities, and the holiday lights added a nice festive touch. The outdoor seating areas, including near the sports bar, were a plus.

It was great that Esmeralda guests had access to the other sister resorts within the complex. Good connection between resorts through frequent shuttles. However, compared to some of the other resorts, the Esmeralda lobby felt a bit average, and amenities like a coffee or dessert shop were missing. While the staff was friendly, limited English proficiency at times made basic communication challenging. For an international resort, improved English communication would enhance the guest experience. Beach is well maintained but not long enough. Ample chairs and tiki huts available.
Stayed for 5 nights and Overall had great experience And highly recommend.

Traveling with a baby, they gave us a room next to the cafe area which hosts lots of activities through the evening and night resulting in noise which was unbearable and lots of foot traffic and noisy people walking late into the night. Repeated calls to hotel were ignored. They had no decency to even apologize. Never coming back. Off, the buffet is not great. No taste in the food.

The hotel is basic and does not meet 5-star standards.

The buffet food is poor, repetitive, and unappetizing, and hygiene is a serious concern—the buffet area is often dirty and kitchen staff do not use gloves.

Additionally, guests are supposedly required to reserve the à la carte restaurants before arriving, yet no email or information is sent prior to arrival. As a result, you arrive at the hotel only to find out that all restaurants are already overbooked, forcing you to eat at the buffet every day.

The room is acceptable, but overall I would not recommend this hotel or return.

We recently stayed at Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda and had an enjoyable experience, especially with the accommodation. Our room was spacious, clean, and had an amazing ocean view. The bed was comfortable, and housekeeping kept the room spotless throughout our stay. The resort itself was beautiful, with well-kept grounds and plenty of amenities to keep us entertained.

Unfortunately, the food and staff didn’t quite live up to the resort’s other features. The dining options were repetitive, and we found some of the meals to be bland and lacking in flavor. We were expecting a wider variety of fresh, local cuisine but were often disappointed with what was offered.

The staff, while some were friendly, generally provided slow and indifferent service. We had several occasions where we had to wait a long time for assistance or help with basic requests. This lack of attention to customer service definitely impacted our overall experience. Majority of the staff didn’t speak English at all.

All in all, while the accommodation and location were fantastic, the food and service were below expectations. If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay with great rooms and views, this resort is worth considering, but be prepared that the dining and service may not be as stellar as you'd expect from an all-inclusive.

The room was nice, but the bathroom was definitely not updated. Bathroom had a sewer smell at times, the bathtub was old and marked up, and shower had rusty old marbled tiles. We could hear animals or bugs at night in our vents near the door. Cockroach seen at lounge bar and one in our bathroom. Some staff were friendly, some don’t even make eye contact, will only attend to you if you tip first! Spent most of the week trying to find out where everything was, had to use cellphone too much for restaurants and information. Overall, would not go back.

The staff members are not friendly to LGBTQ+ and interracial travelers and couples. We are extremely upset and disappointed. We didn't get service almost every time we went to the buffet, the rooms are dirty and smells like sewer, and the excursion was not what we paid for. Many other guests we talked to were disappointed as well in the resort.

The room service was okay! I had to ask them to refill the body-wash and shampoo, but they didn’t seem to care after following up twice with housekeeping.

The variety of food at the restaurants was amazing! We tried five different places: Casa Bella, Italian, El Olive, Mediterranean, Limbo, French, M.E.A.T - Steakhouse, and Yurta, Mongolian. Casa Bella was the worst because the pastas had no taste. All of those places were amazing! The buffets were nice too!

We booked expedia and second time in Bahía. First was in Mexico. Rooms both times were musty and smelled moldy. Might be their expedia rooms idk. Complained this time and they offered another \"emergency\" available room. Smelled of sewage. They have backup somehow and overheard others with similar complaint. Finally involved a manger third day and he accommodated with another room. Much better, but still small amount of sewage smell in bathroom. Took it nonetheless. Otherwise food was good, especially the fresh fruit. Weather exceptional, beach very nice, save for all the vendors (par for the island). À la carte 8/10. Entertainment acceptable. Overall 8/10. I'd try another resort for variety at this price point as we had sad start to both resorts.

This trip was meant to celebrate my mother after surgery, but the hotel failed on multiple fronts. Reservations weren’t honored, transportation was unhelpful, and staff were dismissive. Most concerning, my mother’s bathroom glass shower shattered and was never properly cleaned, posing a serious safety risk. Not recommended for families or anyone with medical needs.

Staff mostly friendly, think sometimes a little overwhelmed with the influx of tourism but I'm sure over time, they will get the hang of it!
Rooms cleaned, fridges restocked daily.
We had a swimout suite, wish we had known it was in the shade for most of the day, so quite a bit cooler than main pools.
Good selection of foods each day, always something to choose.
Beach was nice & close to resort, very little seaweed issues (we went beginning of December) water a little choppy so not good for non or basic swimmers!

From the reception to the waiters and room service. Armando from reception, Manuel, Freetown, and Jhoenfry, the famous \"Mickey Mouse,\" you made our family vacation unforgettable.

We loved everything about our stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda! The staff is amazing! They are all so nice and so eager to make sure you have a wonderful vacation. We loved our swim up pool room because they do close all the pools at 6pm. That part is a little disappointing, however they use the large pool to put on excellent performances in the evening. The swim up pool rooms give you more time to enjoy swimming. The beach is beautiful with plenty of shade from beautiful palm trees and umbrellas. The water was a little cloudy when we were there but honestly I think it was from the small boats that were offering tube rides. I wish we would’ve walked further down the beach away from them to see if the water was clearer. The food was great! We bought Travelan off Amazon that we took before meals just to make sure we didn’t have any stomach issues from food or drinks. We never had any issues. The amazing smash burgers you can order via room service (even late at night) was my 9 year old picky son’s favorite food! He is still talking about those! I do recommend getting a small power strip that has extra outlets, USB, and C-ports. I actually had two and I put one in the bathroom and one in the bedroom. You will need it!
Also, do carry-on and a personal item bag if you can help it. SO much easier through customs! Use portable vacuum seal bags! FYI, there is a lot more options for souvenirs at the airport when you leave than resort gift shop, cheaper too.

Staff was phenomenal I never tipped as much as I did on this trip Armando the front desk staff was amazing he arranged all of my dinners at restaurants and helped with almost everything

Check in over 2 hours late, no water temperature regulation. Scalding hot water only. Toilet seat broken. WiFi down for 2 days, can’t connect to TV or make restaurant reservations. Staff very lazy avoid making eye contact with you so they then can’t help you. Only hard working staff was Sports Bar, Rosa and Emmanuel and Carlos from beach bar.

Check in and check out was terribly. Check in waited at Fantasier forever, noone came. Talked to three staff members. Noone carred. We booked Esmeralda, no taxi or other transportation is allowed there.

Checking out today, almost mist the flight. Conciege did not wake us up. Called for bell boy twice to pick our laguage up. Noone was coming after 25 minutes. We had to walk from Esmeralda to Fantasia lobby with our languages which took us 15 minuted

Excellent Hotel Experience

My stay at this hotel was absolutely wonderful. From the moment I arrived, the staff was friendly, attentive, and professional. The room was spotless, with a very comfortable bed and all the amenities needed for a relaxing stay.

Breakfast was delicious and varied, with fresh and high-quality options. The common areas were clean and well-maintained, offering a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere.

The location was perfect—close to everything but far enough from the noise to rest comfortably. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for great service, comfort, and an overall pleasant experience. I will definitely come back!

The resort area was very clean, the room was very clean the bed they could change the sheets little bit more often our where looking old already. My only complain was that not much entertainment for adults it is more tailored for families and the front staff need better training in educating clients what the hotels offer we wasted so much time trying to figure out what to do and wat resorts offered what activities. Also when you book through Expedia for whatever reason the communication between Expedia and the resort is nonexistent they did not even know I had an upgrade or anything. The staff working at the restaurants and buffet though was amazing and so friendly.

Our vacation at Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda was absolutely spectacular. A total of 22 family members traveled with us to celebrate my brother’s 60th birthday. The staff and servers at the buffet were truly five-star, treating us with respect and going out of their way to fulfill all our requests. They helped us organize my brother’s party and arranged tables for 22 guests. Additionally, they prepared special dishes beyond the regular buffet menu to make the celebration even more memorable.

The resort itself is beautiful, with stunning rooms that are both lovely and comfortable. We also appreciated how close it was to the beach—just a short walk away. The only thing I would suggest is offering more entertainment or activities, as that would make the experience even better. We were pleased to see that they also offer excursions, which added a lot of fun to our stay.

Overall, it was an unforgettable experience, and I highly recommend Bahia Principe Luxury Esmeralda for a relaxing and memorable vacation with family.

Everyone was super nice and very service driven. Many practiced anticipatory service well. Restaurant food was very good and plenty of options. Facilities were huge plenty to do everyday everywhere. Room service was fast and they follow up right away loved that.
Check in was very friendly and super efficient Johan at check in desk is awesome a five star employee ! Rosa the hostess and Irania the server were both wonderful everyday we had breakfast and lunch.

This Birthday vacation was the worse experience ever. I came with my husband, 2 kids, my mom and my father in law handicap.
This was our 3rd time coming to Bahia príncipe. The first 2 in Fantasia with no issues at all.

1- while we were doing the check in the manager J M was so pushy to do a Review for the hotel when we didn’t even finished the check in. He took our phones to put the wifi in to leave the Dam review. Which called our attention right away.
I’ve never seen this before from any other service. Don’t get fool and leave a review before having your own experience.

2- the 2 rooms were so smelly like a cesspool, they blame the rain. The house keeper also realized from the smell. We complain about it and the manager didn’t do anything at all. He supposed to give us another room the next day. No one call us the next day to let us know that the room was ready. The same day appears COCKROACHES one in the first room in the bathroom and 2 in the room #2 in the bed and couch, TERRIBLE!!

3- NO Ac or Heat vent Filters, visible electrical wires hazard hanging . In both Rooms. Unsafe

Disgusting experience for my family and kids, in the day of my Birthday .

We had a really good stay at this all-inclusive resort in Kantakana! The overall experience was comfortable and relaxing. The rooms were clean and well maintained, the food options were nice with plenty of variety, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The beach and pool areas were beautiful and well kept. There’s definitely room for a bit more improvement in service speed and entertainment, but overall it was a wonderful experience

We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday and our anniversary, and we truly had a wonderful stay. The room was spotless and well-maintained, and the staff provided excellent service. I would especially like to thank Alexa and Alex for warmly greeting us from the moment we arrived until the end of our trip. They went above and beyond to help me decorate the room for a birthday surprise, and their kindness, helpfulness, and professionalism made our experience extra special. The outdoor pool was also perfect for relaxing and enjoying our time together. We definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable and comfortable stay.
