We had such a wonderful stay. The staff was truly kind and welcoming, and the villa felt spacious, clean, and comfortable. Having a washer and dryer made everything so easy. The restaurant was a favorite—beautiful views and really delicious food. We would happily come back.

My son, daughter-in-law and six year old granddaughter accompanied my wife and I on a trip to St John and St Thomas. We spent one night at the Mafolie. The room was very clean and spacious. But what made it was the view from our villa balcony. Absolutely breath taking! Restaurant was also wonderful, not only with the quality of food but also with the remarkable view. Downside was the numerous stair steps we had to take to get to our room and the restaurant. We also had to walk by noisy generators to get to the restaurant. Staff was friendly and accommodating.

Outside grounds of the hotel leave something to be desired but the rooms were ok. Housekeeping was spotty but the breakfast was good. Do your research though. Good price but farther up the mountain than you would think and the in house restaurant is overpriced. Bring plenty of cash because the “incuded” breakfast is not so all incusive.

I’m giving 5 stars for the restaurant staff for their stellar service and great food but 0 stars for the management staff. On the 2nd day we got a massive leak and maintenance said that that’s the room they having issues with leaks and they can’t fix it.The room also was very outdated with the tv only being able to stream YouTube. The biggest red flag they have is their complete lack of security presence during the night time. On one night while my kids were trying to sleep a couple of women came by and caused a total chaotic scene. They started with banging the door and arguing which then grew to physical altercations, with at one point one of the women screaming she was getting r…d.My traumatized kids had to call 911 because there was no one present to disperse the scene. Even after the police kicked them out they came back a second time to continue banging on doors. The management was notified but did nothing about it.

Other than that, the restaurant was an awesome experience. Shoutout to Michelle and Sani from the morning staff and Shelby from the night one for being very helpful and amiable people that helped make our time there feel much better.

The property is very quaint and has a European vibe and beautiful views of Charlotte Amelie. The free Breakfast was wonderful and for the price I think it is a great deal! Downsides: Bed was not super comfortable, but I slept fine anyhow. It is on top of a very steep street and you cannot walk down to Charlotte safely. You will need to taxi or rent a car. Parking was adequate. There are a lot of stairs! My 79 year old mother would not be able to stay here.

Ok! Overall we enjoyed our stay and vacation, but booked this location based off of somewhat misinformed reviews. So,

-Location makes for pricely taxis up and down the hill. They are a must or renting a car, but we did not see ample parking for car rentals.

-Stunning views of the waterfront area.

-The best included breakfast we've had as it was made to order and delicious.

-Wonderful bar drinks and fantastic apps but we skipped real meals here as they seemed pricey. Like we were paying for the views we already paid for, but I'm sure the food was fantastic.

-We had a Deluxe Room with little patio and the rooms for my were maybe 2 stars at best which is a big reason we would not stay here again.

-No, we were not offered the VIP upgrade but also didn't bother asking about it.

The views from this property are amazing! There is no elevator, so you have to carry your suitcases up and down steep stairs.
The hotel is in somewhat degraded condition. This adds to the charm in its external appearance, but the significant paint peeling and a hole in the bathroom ceiling went beyond the disrepair expected.
The Junior suite had a good AC unit for the bedroom, and the bed was very comfortable. That was the only AC unit for the room, which meant that the front room with couch and table (and great view!) was warmer than desired, and it would get no AC if the bedroom door was closed.
There is no means to get anything to drink or eat at this hotel before 8am or after 8 pm- not even filtered water. Breakfast is included and good but does not open until 8 am, and opened late nearly every day of my visit, making this breakfast less of an option for business travelers who have morning commitments. There isn't even coffee or tea in the rooms to have before the breakfast opens, and there is no nearby coffee shop for early risers. The restaurant is open for dinner every night and again was good and with a wonderful view, but it is closed on Tuesdays and thus there is no way to get food on property on that night. I tried to get food delivery to the hotel since I was on business travel but could not find any place willing to deliver. Without a car, it is less ideal to stay at this hotel for this reason.
The staff were all wonderful- helpful and accommodating.

This little gem offered a wonderful restaurant on site with a fantastic team from accommodating manager Robyn, talented chef, Rolando who came by table side to make sure everything was as expected. Bartenders created a personalized request specialty martini 🍸🌴😎 ohhh… the views were spectacular from the balcony dining room!! Definitely a return visit.

Honestly the room was very underwhelming. It was beaten up like it had seen heavy use for many years- a couple of the doors didn’t close right, and most importantly, the AC couldn’t keep up and the shower pressure was horrible.

I don’t know if I would ever go back to St Thomas since it is soo hard to navigate around even with a rental car. If we do return I would stay there again

We enjoyed our stay at the Mafolie Hotel in February 2026!! The pool was lovely and the view from the pool and restaurant was absolutely stunning!!! The staff was the best ever!! The front desk staff, cleaning staff and restaurant staff are all incredible - so friendly & extremely hard working and they made our visit extra memorable! The restaurant was terrific and we highly recommend! Free breakfast to start the day could not be beat! Dinner with a view was spectacular!
The only issues we had were: our room was completely interior and we missed having natural light and any type of view would have been appreciated (not that we spent too much time there!) as well, the good thing is that this hotel is on a mountain and has the best view ever and the bad thing is that it is on a mountain and you must take a taxi everywhere!!!! Walking on the minimal shoulder of the road is not recommended!!! We had expected to do some walking to local attractions and that was not possible (disappointing.)
All in all, a wonderful hotel that I would recommend for its charm, cleanliness and outstanding staff and hospitality!!

Incredible views from the property! Wonderful breakfast. Great staff, friendly and helpful.
However there are a lot of stairs on the property and there was some remodeling being done during our visit. There is no longer a bar in the pool area but there is one at the restaurant. We loved the property and staff but one draw back is having to take a taxi to go anywhere, no safe walking options nearby and the property is not ADA friendly.

This was our fourth time staying at the Mafolie and it was wonderful as always. The hotel is very quaint with a real island charm. The view is the best on the island. The rooms are not fancy but are clean and comfortable. The restaurant and bar provide delicious food and craft made cocktails. Great service in the bar/restaurant and in the hotel.

Great view and kind staff! Although very poor water pressure, and the bed was not secure. One of the legs was bowed in and made the whole bed wobbly and felt like it was going to break. They came and fixed it, but it still felt like it was going to collapse. No coffee, so you will have to make a trek up the hill every morning. Don't use the hotel's recommended taxi service as they charge MUCH more than the Airport's taxi service.

We stayed at Mafolie Hotel for two nights at over $300 per night, and the experience was extremely disappointing. The room was very cramped, outlets were not working, and the bathroom was outdated, leaking, and the door would not even close due to moisture damage. Only one roll of toilet paper and one towel for the entire room were provided.

Service felt pushy and transactional. A 20%–25% gratuity was automatically added in multiple situations, and staff repeatedly insisted on gratuity, even when using breakfast coupons. When I ordered a wine to go from the bar, gratuity was still added. Extending checkout by just one hour resulted in a systematic $10 charge, reinforcing the feeling that everything was designed to extract more money.

There was nothing to do near the hotel—no walkable attractions or shops—leaving the hotel’s expensive restaurant as the only option. Downtown was underwhelming: most restaurants closed around 6 PM, about 60% of shops were jewelry stores, and there was virtually no nightlife or evening activity.

Transportation and logistics were also poor. Taxi fares were extremely expensive and charged per person. Our budget reserved rental car was not available, and after waiting nearly two hours, we had to rely on taxis. The airport experience was equally bad: Wi-Fi did not work, restrooms were in very poor condition with long waits (around 30 minutes for women), and security lines were so long that arriving 3–4 hours early felt necessary.

Amazing view from the hotel. Clean room and comfortable bed. Nice to have soap, shampoo and body lotion. Included breakfast is good. Due to the location, without a car, one is stuck there. No nearby restaurants, shops, or stores. And, taxis are expensive. But, we stayed one night after a sailing charter, and again, the view was amazing.

When booking the hotel it said breakfast was included, however once there we found out you have to pay for the gratuity (20%). Also for breakfast the service was so slow, long waits, no checking or refilling waters. The restaurant for dinner is the same, slow service and water was not refilled the entire time, but 20% tip is already added to the check.
The parking situation is street parking, however there is not much room on the street. Trying to park with the dinner rush was impossible after coming back from the beach.
For house cleaning, the room they only swapped out towels, did not change bedsheets and left some wet towels in the room.

This felt like a scam. We arrived to not hot water and the pool closes at 7pm (??). The room was filthy. Furniture held together with duct tape. Stained pullout couch with a literal footprint on it. Obviously did not feel comfortable sleeping on the pullout sofa so three of crammed into the bed. The water came on but the shower was CAKED with grime. This was \"the bungalow\" which was advertised at a higher rate to accommodate a higher occupancy - it was such a terrible disappointment. The upside, friendly staff and a free welcome beer. We also had to walk at minimum 100 steps to our room. Advertising says 50+ which is a far jump and misleading. Restaurant was closed at 7pm on a Tuesday. Creepy neighbors blasting music. So much more to say... Reached out to the hotel to privately discuss compensation and haven't heard back. .

I am very disappointed & unhappy with this hotel. First, the office closed at 8:00pm & the diner closed at 10:00 pm every night. Which meant you didn't have any access to anything to drink or a vending machine to accommodate late night snack cravings. There was not ice machine on the entire facility. Our dirty towels stayed on the floor for two days, before we eventually had to go the housekeeping area and let them know that we needed fresh linens, towels, etc. The air conditioner stayed on the whole time we were there & it never cooled off the room. The toilet ran constantly throughout out the night, preventing a decent night's sleep and lastly, the bathroom shower area was covered with has black mold

Quality of breakfast food was good, and staff was friendly (except a mature-age front desk lady, but I saw other customers have already commented on that). The pool is nice, and the view from the terrace and the bar is maybe the best on the island (is it why rooms cost so much?) I did not put 5 stars because our room was nice but not well-cared for: the bug net on the bathroom window had openings which I needed to plug with napkins, and the front door’s window had a dark paint scratched off, so after dark anybody could peep into it and see what’s going on in the room. Not nice. Other than that - a pleasant place.

flights/american airlines cancelled multiple times free 8 hours of rescheduled flts we found out at 7pm we had to book an overnight accommodation. most hotels already booked somehow i found this ABSOLUTE GEM of a hotel 10 out of 10 we stayed in the UPPER VILLA-the view in the morning of the harbor was breathtaking the accommodations were beyond expectations with soaring ceiling heights and a full balcony. fully furnished 1200 sq ft apt with lovely accents and lovely decor-open/airy/spacious do yourself a favor and book this you won’t be sorry-the photos on Expedia do not do it justice. it is tucked into a hillside with an incredible open air restaurant with full view of the ocean and city below-breathtaking and ultra clean

Mafolie hotel is located central to downtown, an 11$/person taxi ride down with a beautiful view!

Travel ease: intermediate (know the taxi rates or have a car)

The best:
- breakfast was amazing (and complimentary). 8-10 am every morning with a view of St. Thomas like no other.
- location was prime with a 10 min ride to half the island including Magan’s bay and havensight, downtown, and the airport was a 35$ (with two bags, 2 people, ride)
- air conditioning worked very well.
- blackouts were none existent.
- staff were amazing (special shoutout to Sunny and Bill!)
The OK:
- pool had a great view, just a little small. The tiles are a bit slippery too.
- Located on the edge of a mountain, so be ready to walk
- shower was good, water pressure great, just a simple shower
The ‘eh’:
- could hear everything outside our room (either in hallway or the windows)
- not really walkable
- not amazing lighting, 3 lamps in our room.

Overall would stay again! Just probably when we feel comfortable driving the island 😁

Had a great day. Had dinner at the restaurant for New Year’s Eve. It was phenomenal, bartender Larry was terrific and so is the whole weight staff. We swam at the pool, which was nice. The view from the villa was spectacular. The villa and some of the finishes are a little dated and on the dingy side, but it was exactly as advertised and would definitely stay again. It was quite perfect for what we needed.

The staff was friendly..the first room I was in was like living in a basement. The noise from the road was horrible kept us awake each night. The room they moved us to was beautiful loved it. They are great people to talk to easy going. The breakfast most days was good. The last day they microwaved the French toast so it wasn't as good as I knew it could be. I would return there in a higher suite. Based on my first room the bungalow I would have to say I would never return. So if you stay there make sure you ask for a jr king suite well worth it.

The staff was very attentive from check in to check out even calling on my 1st night to inquire if I needed dinner reservations as the onsite restaurant was closed. Hotel.is located in an area that is accessible to many sites. My only advice would be open to changing your plans based on how many cruiselines are in port or rent a vehicle as taxis maybe difficult to get as on the days with 3-4 ships they prefer to make many trips with a full car from the port to activities to make their $$...cant blame the drivers but it makes coming off the mountain difficult

The view from the room was beautiful. The air conditioning worked great. Unfortunately, the bathroom really needed some work. The shower floor was nasty. We had to wear shower shoes. The water cut off multiple times while showering. The plug for hair dryers was so high up in the light, it could not be reached by a short person. The actual sink bowl had cracks. There was also only one other plug in the bedroom and you could not see yourself in a mirror to dry your hair. The pool area needs major renovation and upkeep. A little cleaning would’ve gone a long way to make the area look better.

The on-site restaurant Sol was a disappointment. While the views and drinks were great, the food was horrible. We were very disappointed that we spent $200 to eat there when there are other dining options we wished we had gone to instead.

Do not have plans to stay here again. There are much better options in town.

I visited the prpoerty in late July with my daughter. The colors of the buildings were beautiful and the plants on grounds made it even more beautiful. There were alot of steps so if you're not into that keep it in mind. Especially having to carry things like your suitcase and other items. There was consteuction going on so there were some workers around working on one side of the property. The view of the seaport was great from my room and pool area. I only stayed one night but they upgraded me based on my Expedia status and their availability which was nice. They had a little breakfast buffet of fruit, bagels, cereal, coffee, orange juice, yogurt and pastries which was convenient. The property manager (Elizabeth) was friendly and so was Alice. The staff was informative when I asked for recommendations. If you're driving around the island i would recommend an SUV due to the roads. Getting to this property is an uphill trip so if you're afraid of heights and tight roads you may be a bit scared. But once you get to the property it's nice. There wasn't food available onsite so buy food before arriving especially if you don't have your own transportation which i had. There is parking but its tight. The views though are amazing!

I was charged a resort fee of $25 a day and breakfast was supposed to be included. Yet I was charged for breakfast and given a voucher of $16 toward the price of the breakfast.

Room 120 Either decrease the cost of the room or update/refinish or restore it.
Ants in the bathroom on the toliet and on the paper, light for closet was nearly burnt out and absolutely worthless, aircon is a window unit in the wall that couldnt be controlled by us until we called the after hours woman and se contacted someone else. Welcome drink was a choice of club soda or tonic sida water.
Reception/checkin hours were incorrect in booking confirmation email as well as the afterhours checkin contact information, but found a different number on reception door which was answered and she arrived quickly to check us in...lastly bungalow is literaly 10 step abouve street before going up the hill more than 50 steps and steep...should be pictured in room photo gallery especially if its 270 a night

The property was a boutique hotel that is being transformed back to its former glory. They have a ways to go, the views are amazing. It was priced accordingly and we plan to back next year and see how the transition goes.

The views and staff are amazing! The hotel is under new management so the restaurant was closed for renovations, but I did enjoy the views from the bar and my bedroom! Everybody was fantastic. Highly recommend.

View of the coast was beautiful. Resturant was closed, which we were never made aware, until arrival, so breakfast was bagels & yogurt setup outside our door. Room window covers were cheap so did not block the sun/heat which made it so hot. Some windows permanently sealed so unable to close. Property definitely needs some tlc, they were working on renovation of their restaurant but that also ment construction all day. Staff was friendly

The view is amazing & pool is amazing! The staff wasn’t the most friendly. The property isn’t that far away from attractions and night life. Mosquitoes were rampant & the living room light was out for 3 nights of our stay. The view & free breakfast are really the only perks.
