Sunset Gardens was nice enough and I would stay there again, but it was not 5 star accommodations. If you stay at a fancy resort I am guessing you will not experience the idiosyncrasies of island life. We stayed 2 nights and really only slept and showered. The rest of the time we were out exploring. We did have a rental car and never had an issue with parking but it is limited (8 spaces approximately) and I think we were told there were 17 rooms total. I had trouble keeping a consistent water temp in the shower, but my wife had no issues. The island is currently experiencing rolling black outs and you will lose water if the power goes out. There was no backup generator for our unit. We stayed in another AirBnB earlier in the week and I got caught in the shower all soapy with no water. I used a gallon jug of drinking water to rinse off. We never lost power while at Sunset Gardens. A/C worked well. Large spacious room with a balcony with a pretty amazing view of the ocean. It is close to the airport, about 3/4 of a mile up Crown Mountain Road. Finding someone in the office can be tricky so pay attention to their office hours. We were careful to arrive during hours so no issues, but could not find anyone at checkout (10am) so left the key (a real key) on the desk. There are chickens everywhere on the island and you will be awakened by roasters! For the price it was worth what we got and like I said, we would stay again! Thank you Sunset Gardens!

Room was clean, the ladies Faye and Deb were very helpful with all of our questions and needs, the housekeeping staff was also very helpful when asked for more towels. The staff had no problem with our son whom we were visiting coming over and swimming with us.

Deb was excellent at making me feel welcomed and the room was great AC was great room was clean. The bed was very comfy the sheets were so soft. There are 2 water bottles in the fridge already which was a nice touch. I had the deluxe apartment and the view was amazing. And there’s a great steakhouse right above the hill that you can walk too.

This was a last minute booking after having to leave another VRBO that was too bad to stay in with strong mildew problems. This location was okay but not close to amenities location wise. The hotel just above it that I first went to in error in the dark (same driveway) was pretty nice and they helped find the right place, so that just made getting to this room more disappointing. Parking was good, the owner (I assume) or at least person managing the reception was super nice and helpful. They clearly had a rough time dealing with hurricane damage and I feel for them, but on vacation you don'e want to experience other folks problems. The room had a nice view, but the love stopped there. The lighting was so dim you almost couldn't see. It was actually hard to capture with a cell phone camera because of the low light! The funny thing was they got dimmer the longer you left them on. The bed mattress was pretty aged I think and you could hear the worn springs in it and it was a bit lumpy. It was a short stay so we just lived with it and it was a last minute save after a horrible experience at another booking we had to walk out of even if we lost the investment, so we were glad for that. I thought long about even saying anything, but I also hope nobody else has a letdown either... so here you go!

Just stayed for a night due to an aircraft mechanical issue preventing us from leaving as scheduled. Wonderful stay with quite a view! I'd want to have a car when staying here so I could maximize what I could see or do since the cabs are astronomical here. I will definitely consider staying here when we return.

The view from the room was beautiful. Unfortunately, we were up the mountain and the only way to restaurants, grocery stores, and areas to walk was to take a taxi, $30 roundtrip. The airport is 5 minutes away, but the cost of the taxi was $30 one way. There is no sidewalk, & the street has hairpin and blind turns, with traffic driving on the left (if youre from the US, you're used to driving on the right). It is very unsafe to attempt walking down to town. I assumed it would be walkable, so it became very expensive to go out at all. Food and groceries are very expensive, much more than in the US. Power outages happen, sometimes for hours at a time, leaving you with no a/c or fan ventilation. The walls in the unit allowed sound to transmit easily, so noise from others was a problem. There are no restaurants or grocery stores nearby, and it is not recommended to drink the tap water as it is from a cistern, so we had to get a taxi to go to the store, to lug water and groceries back to the room. The pool is very small, and not conducive to swimming. There are stray cats, dogs and chickens everywhere, as well as rats in the garbage area. We will not go back. The staff were as helpful as they could be, but this is no place for a vacation.

This property was a mixed bag for us. The staff was amazing and i give them 5 stars. The location was up the mountain and you will need a car/taxi to get anywhere. It is located in a more residential area with the closest amenities starting at about a mile away (not walkable at all!). Pretty noisy, and the skylight in the living room made sleeping in next to impossible. The people staying there were all friendly and nice, we interacted with nearly everyone around us that first night.
All in all, i would say great place if you are traveling on a budget or want to get beyond the typical tourist experience. I would look elsewhere if you want to be near the beach or if you are a light sleeper.

The actual property was very misrepresented from the photos, it was more like a cheap hourly motel in your local town. The shower was just a dribble that took at least 20 minutes to start to get warm water. You had to get in bed from the end because there wasn't enough room on either side to get in likewise because the room was so small. The property on the whole was in disrepair. Just not what I expected.

The property controls the AC & maintained it ~75-77F degrees which was too warm. Shower hot water limited to less than 10 minutes. Roachee & ants in bathroom & kitchenette. Facility is not acceptable & on US mainland would be rated a 1-star accomodation facility. Must have vehicle or be prepared to take taxi to public transportation area ~1.5 miles from hotel. We stayed at Sunset Gardens for 3 nights as a family trip in St Thomas. The moment we arrived on the property I was a little confused if we were even in the right place. The parking was so small. There is no lobby, only a tiny office. The lady who checked us in was so sweet and helpful. It was a shame that there wasn't anything she could do about the building which just made me feel uncomfortable. The railings near the steps towards laundry were rotting off. Our room for a family of 4 was so small. No elbow room at all. The TV was Dish and sometimes worked and sometimes did not. The bathroom was just as small. I'd have to twist awkwardly just to reach the toilet paper. There was no sink space. If I put anything down on the vanity it would fall off. But the shower was a real piece of work. It looked ok, but the water temperature was the confusing part. I would have it on a lukewarm or cool temperature, and without warning and without touching the faucet setting, the temperature of the water would heat up so much I'd get burned. Then , the backdoor to the balcony was so hard to close, I'd have to slam it just to close and lock it. One night when we were there at 5 in the morning, the power went out and all fans, AC shut off. Got very hot very fast. And to top it off, the other guests were so loud during all hours of the night, talking, blasting music, laughing. Just overall, I rate my stay 2 stars. The only positive was the people who worked check in were very nice.

This property is in terrible shape. Floors are cracked, bed is 20 years old, doors will not close or lock, leaky roof, bugs and paper thin walls. Office closes at their leisure and property is not supervised. There was a fight at the pool one night and a loud party the other night. Place need to be condemned and torn down.

Upon checking in Faye was very pleasant and extremely helpful. However the room needed some upgrades. The shower curtain was dirty. Although everything was clean, things could’ve been upgraded a little differently. It was as very difficult place to get cabs. The drivers weren’t always willing to come pick people up by this facility when traveling to red Hawk for the ferry and other sites with a distance. The iron was broke, there are no blackout curtains and dishes are old too.

We had an extremely horrible experience with this hotel. Upon arrival we came to the front desk for information. The lady at the front desk, due to her nasty and mean attitude made us run to the parking lot to look for another hotel. Which by the way is in peak season to find a place on the spot. Luckily, Wyndham Elysian had a room for me and my family. They gave the very best hospitality and quick service. Due to their excellent work ethics is the only reason why I would even think to come back to St Thomas.

The room was ok until I notice the ceiling fan was not working, the kitchen sink leaked all over the floor when I turned it on to wash a cup, refrigerator was dirty and had an open bag of ice, patio had a towel hanging on a chair, someone left their underwear and bathing suit on the couch, there was a molded sponge on the sink, the floor was sticky so I wore my crocs. The toilet was not working I had to open the tank and force the rubber down so the tank would fill up with water to flush. The sink had hair on it and around the knobs were dirty and dog poop in front of my door until the rain washed it away. They did give fresh towels everyday. Luckily I had Lysol wipes in my carry on and was able to wipe all the dirty surfaces, toilet, shower stall and knobs. I personally wouldn’t book again. The staff was friendly but I did not get to voice my opinion on the room because of the hours I spend on the property.

Sunset Gardens have an Amazing View. The breeze is wonderful. The staff treats you like Royalty. The beds was comfortable and the apartment was in immaculate condition. I’m going to stay here again.

The hotel was okay, as expected. However, there was a lot of noisy, fellow guets at the pool late and in the halls. It didn't seem to matter to the management as nothing was said or done because it was reoccurring incidents.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Fantastic views and friendly staff. Room needed cleaning and kitchen shelf was slanted so microwave is tilted. Not helpful for heating bowls and mugs as they spill. No hair dryer as pictured and internet was pretty bad. But having cable tv helped pass the time in the evenings. Be prepared for the local rooster to wake you in the morning. All in all not bad for the money, and very convenient for the airport. Would stay again with reasonable expectations.

The view is amazing! Deb is very friendly and helpful. The property is pretty dated and the beds not very comfortable. Could be cleaner but not bad. Pretty cheap price comparitivly and is ok if you are budget traveling. I would stay here again if traveling on a tight budget.

Your on a mountain with a great view. There is no food or restaurants close to guesthouse. When the sun goes down you hear dogs barking all night long. There is Nothing close to the guest house, Stores, Restaurants, beaches, are all down the hill. You can NOT walk up and down the hill. There is no sidewalks, so its very dangerous.
The rooms do have a Full Kitchen, with dishes, pots, pans, flatware. There is a Gas Grill by the pool that you may use.
