The location of The Michelangelo is perfect for theatre goers, dining, & Central Park. No doubt about it. The staff was very pleasant, especially the doormen.
The property itself has seen better days. Our room was a bit shabby. The carpet was old with visible stains, the bathroom sink had a large crack, and the painted surfaces were chipped with poor repairs. Just too dated & worn for the price.

6 months ago my review of The Michelangelo hotel concluded it “A Precious Gem.” I added “my deep and longstanding hope is the owners realize the Michelangelo's significance and polish her back to her full glory.” Unfortunately time has made apparent its ugly occlusions, revealed fatal flaws, and, indeed, its close proximity to hull crush depth. Less flowery: It is sinking.

I must be abundantly clear at the outset: I continue to have the highest esteem for the hard-charging service staff. Their fine work - as I witnessed first hand - literally comes at the expense of breaking their bodies to make up for the lack of staff, poor communication by administration, and the absence of vision of the owners.

I joyfully reaffirm the fabulous I Lounge breakfast crew crew: Jimmi, J.C., Juan, Sian (Srry sp).

The bartenders of lunch and dinner: Shawn and Luna.

My dear comrades at the door: Cesar, Teddy, Nick, & the venerable Gene.

At front desk, Valther (Srry! sp) has proved to be the most honest and has been of significant assistance to me, above and beyond. The porters: Edwin, Rajeev, and Henry.

Security: Smiley and Shepherd.

Here is where things get dreadful, however; namely, the incompetence, negligence, and flim-flamming of the mid-level administrative class.

First in line is Hamadi the Front Desk Mgr. Hamadi is the epitome of “three monkeys management” – I see no misdoing by the staff. I hear only complaints about the guests. And I only speak in ways that place the bla

Our stay at the Michelangelo was outstanding. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. Just walking into the lobby lets you know that you are in a quality place. We never did not feel special. The room was very clean. There were some cosmetic issues in the room (loose shower plate, broken desk drawer, etc.), but nothing that impacted our stay. If you are going to NYC to see a Broadway show I 100% recommend the Michelangelo, it's location and quality is excellent.

My recent stay at this hotel was highly disappointing and fell far short of even basic expectations for cleanliness, maintenance, and service.
Upon check-in, the front desk staff member was noticeably rude and dismissive, offering no assistance or warmth despite my simple requests. This set a negative tone from the start. (The manager I spoke to later was kind and apologetic, which was the only bright spot in an otherwise poor experience.)
The entire property feels extremely outdated – both the common areas and the guest rooms. The decor, furnishings, and overall infrastructure appear to have received no updates in decades, giving the hotel a tired and neglected atmosphere.
Several practical issues made the stay uncomfortable:
• The in-room telephone was completely non-functional, so I could not reach the front desk for any assistance.
• Housekeeping standards were unacceptable. I found two old, dirty socks left behind the bed, which suggests the room was not thoroughly cleaned (or even properly inspected) before my arrival.
• Hot water was barely functional – it was lukewarm at best and inconsistent, making showers unpleasant.

The room was clean, but extremely shabby. Peeling paint around the doorways, peeling caulk around the tub, cracked tiles in the bathroom, very, very old carpet in the bedroom and hallways. No tea/coffee maker in the room. My view was of the office building directly next door, so no natural light in the room. The staff were very nice. The location is good if you're seeing a show on Broadway. This is not a luxury 4 star hotel as advertised.

This was by far the best hotel experience I've ever had.

The room was absolutely amazing; spacious, beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and incredibly comfortable. The staff went above and beyond; they were genuinely friendly, attentive, and super helpful with every request, making the whole stay feel welcoming and personalized. Room service was excellent too.

The only drawback was the inconsistent bar hours. It seemed the bar didn't typically open until the evening, which unfortunately coincided with when most of my events and plans were scheduled, so we weren't able to take full advantage of it or use our included credits. A bit more daytime or flexible access would have made it perfect.

Overall, though, the positives far outweighed that one issue. Highly recommend this place and can't wait to return!

Second visit to this well-located, graciously appointed hotel. Right off of 7th Avenue, theatres, great restaurants, subway stations and more are steps away.
The rooms are quite large, the staff are committed, and we were treated like we mattered from the moment we checked in.
Kendrick, Teodoro and Mercad went out of their way to assist us at all times and made us feel like cherished family. We miss them already, and can’t wait to visit again.

I really like the hotel in many ways. It is old fashioned with decor that looks like it came from the 1940s but has been kept up. Big room with a great tub and good bed. It is a bit dark as the window in my room looked out on a brick wall that was probably 6 feet away. Ask for a room with an outside window. Food service is nothing special, but at least they have it when it seems like some of the NYC hotels no longer serve. I actually will go back. It was a comfortable place to stay

The staff was rude, the rooms yes big but dirty with stains on the sheet. Valet didn’t exist for the particular day we checked in even though I verified in advance. Couldn’t leave the dog in the room alone but there were no options that the front desk could help with dog friendly restaurants.

Great location. You can walk to Rockefeller plaza, time square and theatre district. Staff is friendly. Room was clean and spacious but decor is dated. Great shower. Had breakfast in lounge one morning and food was ok. It cost over 55 dollars for 1 yogurt parfait and 1 continental breakfast (1 juice,1 cup of coffee and a few rolls). I would advise breakfast elsewhere. I would stay here again.

The hotel is a quiet refuge in the heart of Midtown.
The staff was friendly and extremely accommodating, especially the Doormen. The room was big compared to the usual NYC room. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was big. There were actually drawers and a closet. Easy to get to theatres, museums and Central Park.

Hotel staff went above expectations, while food menu was limited, quality was great. Also elevators are there almost immediately. No waiting around. Very comfortable stay. We stayed in Grand Suite. Large room. Huge bedroom. No view except for a brick wall. Large main washroom adjacent to bedroom, and another powder room in living room area. Couches in living room were not pull out couches as we assumed based on sleeping suggestion of up to four people in the suite. But hotel provided a free cot to add to living room. Checkin and checkout were a breeze. Great location close to Times Square and theatres but not noisy. Self-parking was in a lot about 150 feet away.

First off, location is wonderful. We did have a few things have happen that I feel need to be said. When we arrived room was 1 hour late in being ready. We had to sit in lobby for them to finish getting it ready. If not for me asking every 15 min how much longer they would not have updated us. When we finally got to our room I was pleased it was so large. We stayed in the Grand Suite. That night I noticed that they placed the sheets on top of the comforter. I was concerned they didn’t make the bed from the previous guest. We had gotten a cheesecake from a deli nearby and needed something to eat it with. I called down and asked if they could send some up and they stated that they couldn’t get any us any till 5 when they restaurant opened. My husband walked down and the bar gave him some. They couldn’t do that I guess. We asked if we could have toothbrush because my daughter didn’t bring hers and we had to call twice as they didn’t bring one.
We liked they had a bellman. Room was very noisy from the street if you stay in a Grand Suite.

Compared to the past, disappointing. They are not paying attention to the little touches. No soap in shower dispenser. The lobby restroom in 2nd floor had paper all the over. The gym is very small and had one mat which was in use - so had to use hardwood floor. The toilet paper dispenser in our room was more than an arm’s length away (but did not need to be) creating a toppling risk. Great location and friendly staff. Won’t be returning.

I was a bit disappointed regarding the room we were given. From the pictures I can see that there were other rooms that look refurbished. Ours needed a revamp, including the bathroom; especially compared to others that appear on the site.

The construction on 51st St. made getting into and out of the hotel difficult.
The steps into the building were a problem for a handicapped person. Your staff was very accommodating but I would have avoided the hotel if I knew about the steps in advance

Our room on the outside was flawless and we were greeted with a bottle of wine and treats. The front desk staffs and the managers accommodated our every request with courtesy. Housekeeping was also excellent. They never bothered us while we were in the room and seemed to know when we were out. The midtown location is also very convenient to everything.

No one mentioned the “Residence Fee” of $45 daily at checkin so we were unaware that it included several daily bottles of water in the mini-bar or discount at the lobby bar. It is supposed to cover the gym, wifi and telephone (charge for a landline?). This is in addition to the endless line item taxes NYC charges for hotel stays. It is ridiculous to charge for a gym that no one uses. If you need to extra revenue, put it in the room rate.

The smell was a bit off, without a doubt a guest before us had brought cats - my allergies were activated immediately. The carpet was sloppy with stains that were definitely not treated correctly. There is no microwave or coffe pot which made eating delicious leftovers impossible. The location is great and the size of room is adequate but it’s very old, outdated and hard to adequately judge cleanliness when the room is wall to wall with NASTY carpet. If you need outlets for charging devices they are hard to find and awkward. DONT EAT from the mini bar. The $11 self packaged nuts were so stale they tasted rancid.
