The room was very clean and staff was very friendly and helpful. Great location with Time Square only a few minutes walk. The air conditioning in my room didn’t work well so it was often too warm and it was the middle of June. I had to keep calling the front desk to send someone to fix it. While the fix was only temporary, the staff did work quickly to fix it each time. Also, there weren’t many amenities, but there was a cocktail lounge with live music and a couple of restaurants in the hotel.

A lovely boutique hotel. Rooms are quite small but we didn't plan to stay in. We were out in NYC after all. The hotel is very close to Time Square but the sound proofing was fairly good. Few "in room" amenities, but coffee was available downstairs. Nice stay - especially for the price.

Zero complaints! Great place for a quick stay! The staff was very friendly and professional. Property is clean. Despite the size of the room it was very comfortable and quiet! I honestly can’t say I’ve stayed anywhere where I didn’t hear something, but it is very quiet here. Location is walkable to literally anywhere. I would definitely stay again.

Clean room, bathroom floor gets very wet from shower. They even have a squeegee to push water down the drain. A bit quirky and not real safe. For the price of the room it really was a bit of a downer.

Such great hotel all around. Great location, I had a beautiful view from my 10th floor room. I traveled solo and felt very safe at the Civilian. Walking distance to Broadway shows, Central Park, Hell' Kitchen and Times Square! Staff was also so helpful and welcoming.

Overall, this was a great location—close enough to all the tourist spots and also close enough to the subway lines we needed to go all the places we wanted to go, including small Brooklyn neighborhoods where our friends and family live.

We stayed in a “cozy queen” and it was quite small, but we honestly didn’t need anything bigger as we did not spend much time in the room. There was a stain of unknown origin on the tiny velvet bench in the room, so we did not use that, but the room otherwise seemed clean. The hallway noises were quite loud on the first night, but then it was fine for subsequent nights.

The room was clean but very small. There were no luggage racks, ironing board or iron, and the lighting was dim. The TV was hard to wrangle due to the need for fresh batteries in the remote control. The room had good soundproofing except for the next-door neighbors allowing their door to slam shut when they exited the room. The windows allowed in a lot of light and the blackout shades worked perfectly. The shower had good water pressure. It could have used a shower door that opened/closed. The hair dryer was a Drybar product which was excellent. The closet space was minimal - just room for 6 hangers facing out. There was no refrigerator, and the safe was located under the bed, so it was necessary to kneel or squat down to access it. The pillows were comfortable. The bathroom sink could have used more shelf space for toiletries.

Pretty decent little hotel but rooms are about the size of a closet..housekeepers are excellent there is no gym on site and do not let them try to scam you out of the $40 a day guest experience see that they try to scan us out of!

Excellent location with reasonable budget in mid of time square, broadway shows and close proximity to Rockefeller plaza. Within proximity to metro and public transportation . No lounge, very small rooms without closets, not even space to sit in the room. Roof top is great , second floor breakfast and coffee was convenient. Overall very good and convenient choice.

No closet, our first room had a bed soaked in bleach so they switched us to another room which didnt have a good view at all. Staff was good but when it comes to someone getting a room full of chlorine smells and a soaked bed. Maybe upgrade them or offer something extra to them. Otherwise they tend to feel like that is a norm so I won't be staying with them again.

Hotel, was clean and the location was perfect. Hotel front desk was very accommodating. Con’s: I wanted our bed lining to be changed and housekeeping never came to our room. There is only one usb and type c port. The window does not block the lights from coming in making it hard to sleep and the floor we was on was kind of nosey

The staff were not very helpful. Our room was advertised as spacious. It was very small and no room to swing a cat around. We didn’t have breakfast in the hotel as it was very expensive. There was also very loud music there on the Friday night. For being near time square you probably have to expect it. The hotel lighting is very poor and it is a very dark place. I did a chat with the hotel online to book another night as we got to New York earlier than expected. They tried selling a room to me for another $150 dollars more. Overall not an impressive hotel.

Very nice hotel, modern, well sound insulated (important given that it's so near the theater district and Times Square).
One thing to be aware of is that the hotel charges a $40 facilities fee on top of their quoted room rate. This amount was included in the Hotels.com price, so wasn't a total surprise. As presented at check-in, though, it was confusing.

Everything was excellent. The only thing was missing is they didn’t have a space to purchase snacks, water , etc. Every restaurant had certain hours and you have to leave the hotel to grab water, soda or anything outside of those hours. It was conveniently located to enough places to grab snacks but I hate I had to ge fully dressed to get water or a snack. Everything else was perfect. It was located in the best spot for touring the city and the hotel was beautiful and clean!

This hotel is a little gem. We had a tiny room but every little detail was thoughtfully designed. It was more than enough space for us to rest after a day of exploring.

The staff were kind and the gym one street over is fantastic as well. A 25m pool in the theatre district was a welcome surprise!

The location is the best. Close to the subway and everything you need and want to see.

We had an amazing stay at Civilian Hotel—it was the perfect choice for our first time in New York. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt special, and the team really went out of their way to make my fiancé’s birthday unforgettable.

The views from the hotel are incredible, giving you that classic New York skyline feel. There’s a fantastic bar downstairs with live jazz that created such a great atmosphere in the evenings, and the rooftop bar with a DJ set was the perfect place to celebrate.

What really stood out was the staff—always friendly, welcoming, and happy to help with anything we needed.

Couldn’t have asked for a better stay as a couple. Highly recommend!

Great location, very quiet. A bigger trash/recycling bin would have been nice. Decor is sleek and very art deco. Staff is very nice and greets guests everytime they pass through the lobby. Only thing they could have mentioned is to wave at the keypads on the walls to open the doors to the street as the doors are extremely heavy.

EXCEPTIONAL in every way. From the well appointed rooms to the stellar staff, The Civilian shined. I was shocked at how quiet the rooms were especially since the hotel is in close proximity to Times Square. We felt a million miles away from the hustle and bustle even though it was steps away.

We stayed in a "Cozy" room and it felt much larger than 130 square feet. The design and efficiency plus the feng shui of the space made it feel like home.

There are 3 restaurants/bars on the property with complimentary coffee and tea every day (2nd floor).

From check in to departure, all of our needs were exceeded. We will stay here again. Bravo to the staff and the genius owner who conceptualized this gem.

Loved my stay here. The hotel was very cute, quiet and loved the restaurant and the rooftop bar (check out the bathroom there!). In the morning, they had free coffee and small morning treats to eat in a adorable seating area that I loved. The only complaint I do have is that I requested 2 items, that I could have gotten myself and it took quite a long time to get them, or didn't at a. I went downstairs to retrieve a small thing of toothpaste since I forgot mine and they said they would send it up to the room, which they did but like maybe 2 hours later. And then I requested ice because it said to call and request for it and they never came (I didn't call back and check on it bc we ended up leaving anyways for dinner).
