1-star stay at Costa Bahia Hotel Paseo Caribe — unprofessional staff, dirty room, and mold everywhere.

Checked in (or tried to) after a day out on the island. I know 4 pm is check-in—I arrived at 10 am expecting to drop bags, came back at 4:15 and was told the room still wasn’t ready. It wasn’t actually ready until 5:15. So we lost the first hour of our evening.

Front desk is on the second floor, four people working (two women, two men) and all of them were goofing off behind the desk—throwing a pen around, joking, totally unprofessional. When I asked about a late checkout, I got attitude; the same staffer told me to “check back in the morning.” Next morning we called to request a late checkout and were told it was unavailable. At checkout, a couple trying to check in at 11 am were being offered early check-in for $75—so they’ll charge for early access but won’t extend a courtesy late checkout.

Room condition was worse:
• Outdated carpet and a persistent moldy smell. • Main orange couch was stained and not fit to sit on; floors were dirty with visible stains. • Bathroom had mold around the tub. Water pressure and hot water were the only positives. • Bed was the worst: the thin blanket had green mold on it (we didn’t notice until the next day). Pillow had a streak of blood. • Balcony door was off its track and a pain to open; view of the bay was nice but not worth the hassle. • All night there was an annoying beep from a utility closet in the hallway—sounded like a dying s

They are using an energy generator during the night, with the excuse that there is no electricity during that period. My room was shaking from the generator noise, and the diesel fumes were entering the room. I left the room that same day.

Arrived with a filthy room. The linens/sheets was obviously not changed from previous guest. Human hairs and stains all over the sheets and pillow. The woman staff was not happy when I asked for a new set of linens/sheets and told me she will try to look for it. I took pictures of how the room condition is. Just very disappointing .

I could barely see the “ocean” from my room…only the lagoon for the sailing club. More importantly, the room was less than desirable. I don’t ask for much.
We asked for early check in. While I realize that can be a difficult ask, it wasn’t handled all that well. When the room was finally ready, the bed lacked a top sheet (bottom sheet only). We asked for this to be addressed and housekeeping showed up and handed me sheets for the bed, which I had to put on.
The room was not clean. In the morning I went to shower and gobs of dirt and even long hairs (clearly not mine) came off my feet. After showering, I walked to the other side of the room, and my feet were visibly dirty again.
As an ocean front property, I could expect some dampness, but there was the telltale odor of mold as well as indications.
Overall, the facility is tired. Faucets and non ceramic fixture were corroded (salt air, I presume).
The area was nice with small shops and a great coffee shop. Also a good burger/pizza place nearby.
Frankly, this was a great disappointment and not worth even the discounted price we paid.
I would not recommend this property. Expedia should not offer it.

Checked in on March 6th around 1am and checked the same day before 11am. There was a huge roach in the bathroom and mold. The lamp shades by the bed were ripped, filthy and rusted inside. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Pros- Room was clean. Ocean view side was amazing. Some restaurants options around. Cons- Parking is about 10-15 min walking over cobble stones and some stairs. The staff person when i checked in was not helpful. Will not give you an option to check in a few minutes later and then make you wait 15 because everyone is checking in at the same time and they only have one person in front. There’s no one answering the phone for help once you are in your room so you actually have to go to the counter. And no one answers the phone provided by on expedia website or google.

Nice view. Not the Hilton. No pool, no laundry facility, breakfast is mid. Location is good, walking distance to Condado, T-Mobile district, or even Old San Juan if you want the exercise. Rooms are spacious but beds are uncomfortably firm. The advantage was the price (also quite different from Hilton). So if you want an economy hotel in the area it’s a reasonable option.

I had read very mixed reviews of this hotel, so I was pretty leery. The hotel is a little run down, maybe in the aftermath of the 2017 hurricane? But we were very happy with it overall. The highlight for us was the balcony overlooking the lagoon, and the location. The room was large and had everything we needed, including frig, microwave, TV, and coffee maker. The continental breakfast was fine, served on a terrace overlooking the lagoon. We were able to catch a bus nearby to Old San Juan (and probably to many other destinations in the area.) The Hilton, next door, had numerous expensive restaurants, but we didn’t visit them. There’s a good and reasonably priced pizza restaurant about a block from the hotel. The staff was pleasant and helpful, especially the breakfast staff. My only suggestion might be to bring along a flat sheet, as the beds don’t include one. If you’re looking for a fancy resort type hotel, you may not like this one. But it’s a reasonably priced option in a good location. Obviously, I can only comment on the condition of our own room, but we were perfectly happy with it.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Worst CS ever. We booked 5 rooms for 2 nights before our Cruise & 5 rooms for 1 night after our Cruise. Got checked in for the 2 nights before our Cruise & the rooms stunk, were old & dirty. Breakfast was of coffee & juice, prepackaged cereal, prepackaged stale muffins, & dry tasteless croissants. Our nephew & his girlfriend were in the room (she was showering) & 2 guys entered their room using a keycard or somehow let themselves in; they said they were from housekeeping but the room had already been made up. On the morning of our check out I went down to ask if we could move all our luggage to one room since checkout was at 11:00 & we had until 2:00 before we were leaving for the Ship. We had 5 rooms & only wanted 1 room to store all our bags & have access to the shower. Was told NO. On our return from the Ship we checked in to the hotel at 4:00 check in time & told only 3 out of the 5 rooms were ready. No handicap accessible room which had been requested for hubby’s mother & their solution was to walk to a walgreens & buy a toilet seat riser. I asked for the manager’s name & they refused to give me the name of the manager also. We told them this whole experience was unacceptable & their answer was we ‘could go find another hotel.’ The next morning after showering & walking around the room packing I went to put my socks & shoes on & my feet were black from how dirty the floor was in our room. We spent $2613 staying there & this is how they treated us.

Ray was Awesome (personality & kindness) at the front desk. My complaint is the parking is not convenient and the bedding was horrible. The pillows were small and we only had 3 for a King bed. We asked for another and they said they didn't have anymore. Also the bed only came with one sheet and a blanket as thin as a sheet. I was freezing and had to sleep with my clothes on. I asked for another blanket the next day and there was nothing available. We stayed 3 nights, we had the AC off the last night. I didn't sleep well. I hate complaining but just want to give you a heads up. Price was good. Convience and bedding ( quality of sleep) was not.

The air conditioning in the room was not working properly. They sent someone and he said it was fixed but there was no change. The bed did not have any blankets. We asked for one and it was never provided. My wife went to talk to the front desk person who was extremely rude and belligerent. She told my wife that she was not her servant and there was no one else to give us a blanket! Finally we were able to get a couple of sheets to cover ourselves while sleeping. The water pressure in the bathroom was varying a lot and one time one of the sink faucets stopped working! All and all, a very unpleasant experience!

Cleanliness is very good. The view of the ocean was great. The location worked well. Parking was a bit tricky to find the correct parking garage. It involves a quick right that isn't readily noticeable. GPS coordinates takes you past the correct self parking garage by 300-400 meters.

I arrived on a Sunday at 3:35pm. The waiting area had about 20 people waiting to check in. The staff initially said check in is at 4pm. I asked if the room would be ready at 4pm or if more time would be required. It was then revealed the hotel had been completely booked since Thursday and maybe an additional hour to be sure the room was ready. Okay, It's a busy time of year; we had a car. We returned at 5:30pm; lobby had cleared and the room was ready.

I noticed about 90 minutes later the room phone was not working. I called the hotel from my mobile number. Went through the automation promos. The phone rang 4 times and then there was a pick up and immediately human up. Happened twice. Hmm... At 9:30pm, I went to pull the covers back to find there was nothing to pull back. There was only a non-fitted sheet on the bed. I went to the front desk to request bed linen and report the phone issue. It was about an hour B4 the linens were brought to the room

I recognize ocean air\"s salt is damaging to materials. There were a few rusty thing in the room, lamp shade microwave and the back of the toilet. Upkeep may be as omewhat slow.

The hotel location itself was ideal for getting around on foot. Nice and close to different amenities and the water was a bonus. And the hotel ataff allowed us to leave our luggage in a locked room for ease of walking to nearby places while waiting on our room to be ready.

The hotel condition needs some work. The rooms smell musty prob due to carpet in a humid climate. Our bed was not made when we went to go to sleep around 10 pm and when we inquired on linens and extra pillows none were available excpet 2 flat sheets.

Also checkin was incredibly delayed and backed up. More staff is definatly required with the amount of guests coming and going.

We will look for a different hotel next visit.

When the hotel says check in at 4pm only they mean it. As it was Sunday the little shops around did not open until 11am. Ocean hotel near buy opened at 11 am for breakfast, brunch, so we could at least eat something as our hotel has nothing.
When we finally got into our room at 4:05pm it was okay. The standard amenities. Beds were okay. They only had 1 thin blanket on them. We had to be up at 4 am. For our flight home.. so you can imagine when there power plant came on at 2am it was so noisy you couldn’t sleep anymore.
Personal would not recommended staying there.
The staff were very kind, just doing there job.

I would not stay here. The parking is extremely confusing. The front desk never mentioned to bring them your parking ticket so they can give you a discount off of the daily parking fee. Our room smelled very musty. I had to air it out by opening the terrace door. The room was outdated & the lampshade by the bed was burnt on the bottom & the top. Like there was a fire set to it. I told the front desk & they never replaced it. Housing keeping was non-existent, only on the last 2 days of our 5 day stay. The continental breakfast was very poor. Terrible coffee, package, baked goods and cereal. I would not recommend staying at this hotel. Do your research. You can do much better. I’m sorry I didn’t do more research myself.

I recently stayed at Costa Bahia Hotel Paseo Caribe and I regret to say it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I have had.

From the moment I arrived, the overall appearance of the property was discouraging. The facilities appeared neglected, with visible signs of poor maintenance throughout the building. Common areas looked worn and uninviting, and the general atmosphere felt more abandoned than welcoming. It was clear that upkeep is not a priority.

The staff’s attitude only added to the frustration. Basic hospitality and courtesy were noticeably absent. Requests for assistance were met with indifference, and there was little effort to provide guidance or support. Instead of feeling like a valued guest, I felt like an inconvenience.

The complimentary breakfast was equally disappointing. The selection was minimal and poorly presented. Most concerning was the fruit, which did not appear to have been properly washed. Cleanliness and food safety should be fundamental standards, and this fell far short.

Overall, this property does not meet reasonable expectations for comfort, cleanliness, or service. I strongly urge Expedia to reconsider listing this hotel on its platform, as it does not reflect the quality travelers rely on when booking through a trusted service. Guests deserve far better accommodations and professionalism than what is currently being offered here.

The Staffs are great and friendly, location is perfect. Few beaches, restaurants and bars are at a walking distance. Beautiful paved walking path along the sea-shore. We stayed at the presidential suit, which is very spacious with two balconies, two bathrooms and a full kitchen.
However the reason I gave 3 start is because of the dirty carpet. I have never been to a hotel with such dirty carpet where after walking barefoot for few minutes across the unit, the feet got so dirty that we needed to wash the feet. The kitchen has very old cooking pans where the carbon coating is coming off while making some meals and it is not safe to eat. There was no spatula. There were only 1 spoon, 3 forks. Eventually we had to use the spoon for cooking. Except for the this cleanliness issue , dirty floor and very poor equipped kitchen, the stay was ok.

The beds had very thin blankets and no top sheet. The coffee pot in the room had mold in it. The toilet didn’t work properly (we had to lift the lid off the tank and give it a giggle to refill in order to flush). When the maintenance man came… he giggled it- saw that that water filled… and told us he fixed it.

Unfortunately, we ended up paying a bad rate. When we checked in, the woman with glasses at the front desk told us that the hotel didn't have a pool or beachfront access, but that there was access to Codado Plaza, where we could rent towels and other items. So we ordered an Uber and headed there. When we arrived, we were told there was no access between our hotel and theirs. We spoke to two other people, including the manager, but received the same answer. We had no choice but to take another Uber back to the hotel. We wasted time and money. The hotel didn't even apologize, and our trip was ruined. The hotel was clean, but it was very old, and every time we entered the room, there was a musty smell. Even with the air conditioning on, it felt humid. They should do something about the smell. A couple we met in the elevator also commented on the awful smell in their rooms. The hotel needs to improve its new employee training.

Al registrarnos, la recepcionista con gafas nos dijo que el hotel no tenía piscina ni acceso a la playa, pero que sí había acceso a Codado Plaza, donde podíamos alquilar toallas y otros artículos. Así que pedimos un Uber y nos dirigimos allí. Al llegar, nos dijeron que no había acceso entre nuestro hotel y el suyo. Hablamos con otras dos personas, incluido el gerente, pero recibimos la misma respuesta. No tuvimos más remedio que tomar otro Uber de vuelta al hotel. Perdimos tiempo y dinero. El hotel ni siquiera se disculpó y nuestro viaje se arruinó. El hotel estaba limpio, pero era muy viejo, y cada vez que entrábamos en la habitación olía a humedad. Incluso con el aire acondicionado puesto, se sentía húmedo. Deberían hacer algo con el olor. Una pareja que conocimos en el ascensor también comentó sobre el horrible olor en sus habitaciones. El hotel necesita mejorar la formación de sus nuevos empleados.

One of the rooms had bugs crawling on the table and and the walls, the 2nd room had hair on the mattress. We ended up checking out and they wouldn't even give us a refund, not even a partial refund. The hotel is in a great location and has great potential. But, theaintenance and housekeeping is substandard. In7839, the bath sink drain and the tub drain drain very slowly. A 10 minute shower will leave you standing in 3\" of water. Worse - and I do mean worse - are the floors. Be sure to wear flip flops or something because your feet will be filthy, if you don't.

When we got to our room around 4:30,(we were lucky, many waited until after 6pm to get into their rooms) Our bed had no top sheet on it!! Luckily I noted where the laundry storage room was and it was open. We made the bed. Our room for the 3 days, was never cleaned!! NOTHING! We had to go down and get towels. We were back to the hotel later. There was no one at the front desk. The ONLY worker was on her break. She is more than entitled to this. But only one worker?? We waited 30 minutes to get help. We asked the first day for some one to please fix the safe. I saw the lady write it down. Nothing was done. We asked the next day. Then it was done. Staff was very pleasant. ONLY good thing about this hotel. There was obviously lack of cleaning staff. People having to wait for hours to get into their rooms, because they are not cleaned yet!! And the cleaning was adequate, but mold in the show. Dust pouring from the AC vent. Carpet was so dirty, that I would not walk on it with bare feet. I honestly feel that the owners are trying to get as much profit as they can. Maybe for one night, but never more. VERY poor hotel. The owners should be ashamed. Perhaps just letting it run down, to sell it.

The room was very clean & spacious. The amenities were also very good. The maintenance staff responded quickly when called to report a problem with the coffee machine. It was replaced immediately.The location was great.

Good room. Clean, comfortable bed. Could not get into room on time because house keeping was behind. Hotel only had a light blanket on bed. No top sheet. Might be a local thing. Staff was very nice.

The hotel was okay. Although staff said there was WiFi it did not work. Another thing the water takes a long time to go down when showering. Also every day approximately 4 times a day there would be a random puddle of water in the middle of the bathroom. This would also happen when I was sleeping or out from the hotel.

Great location, large rooms and a hell of a view. The parking situations was confusing at first, but having Fogo De Chao right there made for an even better experience.

Room was never cleaned during a 5 day stay. Got stuck in the elevator. Tv was broken. Blankets were kind of gross in appearance.
