Love the ocean view rooms. The rooms are a great size. I just wish they were a little bit more clean and up kept. Outlet covers were hanging off, there was no remote in our room and the shower/toilet area could have been cleaned a bit more. Overall, our stay was good.

Very nice hotel with beautiful grounds.

We enjoyed every restaurant. Have to admit, we were disappointed at lunch time, as you had to change from beachwear to clothes to eat at restaurants, unless you ordered from pool/beach server and that would take 1/2 to 45 min to arrive somewhat cold or dry. Menu would only offer burger, hot dog or nachos.

Amazing property, amazing staff, entertainment at night was lacking and we found wasn’t very good but we spent most of our time enjoying the day anyways so nights were spent in the room and we were great with that. Only negatives were that room service took well over an hour a couple of times, and there could be a couple of more options for lunch (having the taco truck open during the day would be great). The guy walking around delivering pizza to whoever wanted it throughout the afternoon was awesome. Honestly we had the best week ever.

I’m so disgusted with this property. I had to cancel my trip and REBOOK it for a longer stay due to weather and now they are making me pay for both and did not respond to the request for a refund for the booking that was cancelled even though I still went to the resort. So disgusting I will NEVER come back here due to this.

My sunglasses were also stolen from my room and no one ever followed up with me on it.

We had a very enjoyable stay at Excellence El Carmen and would rate it 4 out of 5 stars. The resort has a great atmosphere and feels very private and relaxing.

We stayed in a Junior Suite with a private pool. The room was spacious and comfortable, though housekeeping could improve attention to detail. Some surfaces were dusty and the floor could have been cleaned more thoroughly.

Service was mostly excellent. The waitstaff were consistently friendly and attentive. The hotel management also stood out — they followed up after room service deliveries and were very caring when my wife wasn’t feeling well one day. The only exception was the staff assigning tables at some restaurants, who sometimes seemed uninterested.

Food quality was generally good, though not outstanding by European standards. Our favorite restaurant was The Flavor Market (Spanish cuisine). The Lobster House was the only real disappointment — especially for seafood lovers from Maryland.

The beach is excellent and the dedicated Excellence Club area is a great feature. However, the hotel should ensure there are enough well-maintained beach loungers available so guests don’t feel the need to reserve them early in the morning.

Overall, a fantastic resort experience with a beautiful beach and friendly staff. We would definitely consider coming back.

Booked a junior suite ocean view on Expedia but the room had a sliver of an ocean view from a distant. This was a huge disappointment and very misleading. In no way should this room have been labeled an ocean view and charged for one. Huge disappointment and will think twice about booking rooms through Expedia.

The large room size & layout was great. It was not spotless, however. One of the sinks was very visibly filthy. There was a lot of sand in the bottom of the shower. The in-room hot tub was also too dirty to use. We liked the high number of restaurants & enjoyed each one we went to we didn’t eat the same meal at the same place twice during our stay, except we did enjoy the breakfast buffet twice. That was amazing! 95% of the staff provided excellent service. The nightly “shows” were lacking. The grounds were beautiful, but not immaculate like some places we’ve stayed, but that didn’t affect our stay. We can imagine what a gem this resort must have been back in its prime.

This is a beautiful resort but you can tell in the rooms that it's aged. The food is pretty good for an all-inclusive. The staff is not very friendly or welcoming but they weren't rude at all either. The had entertainment every evening that we enjoyed.

We recently stayed at Excellence El Carmen in Punta Cana, and unfortunately our experience did not match the luxury standards advertised.

From the moment we checked in, there were significant cleanliness and maintenance issues. The bedding had visible stains upon arrival and those same stains remained present throughout our six-night stay, despite being told the room was cleaned daily. The private terrace pool was dirty when we arrived and was not cleaned until the following day after we called.

The terrace and interior floors were extremely dirty, to the point where we felt we needed to wipe our feet before getting into bed. The bathtub shade was broken and sitting inside the tub, making it unusable the entire stay.

Noise was also a major issue. The walls and door gaps allowed significant hallway and worker noise late into the night. We had to place a towel at the base of the door to try to reduce sound and airflow.

Most concerning, my wife was bitten by bugs inside the room. We saw the bugs ourselves. After being bitten, she experienced fevers, severe headaches, and multiple fainting episodes during the trip, nearly losing consciousness several times. This was extremely alarming and had a serious impact on our ability to enjoy the vacation.

We documented these issues with photos and contacted Expedia after our stay. However, we were informed that no compensation could be provided because the hotel was unwilling to authorize it.

Excellence El Carmen - Dominican Republic is a wonderful choice for an all-inclusive luxury vacation. It is nicely designed and organized so that you can be either active day and night, or alternatively, nice and quiet. The rooms are large and have beautiful balconies to enjoy. The beach is clean and easy to walk for several km in either direction. The food in the lunch and dinner restaurants is good, not great. The breakfast buffet is extensive with a huge variety available for you to enjoy. The Club pools are nice and quiet, while the main pool and beach are very active. We give a special shoutout to Jerson, bartending at the Club Pool. A major shoutout also goes to our guest services host Marleny. Marleny looked after anything that we needed during our stay, and made the vacation that much more enjoyable. She is an invaluable resource. This was our first experience at an Excellence property, and we look forward to many more in the future!

Beach is well maintained with quality lounge chairs. Swim up room was lovely with cozy bedding, robes, slippers, and towels. The grounds are beautifully manicured with well maintained/equipped facilities. The variety of restaurants provide satisfying options.

The resort was AMAZING, staff were beyond friendly never passed a person that didn't say hello or good morning. Food was great and loved the fact you didn't have to make reservations every night, daytime options could have been better with beachside grills to just walk up and order, they did have a poolside menu but was very basic. Rooms were clean and very nice, swim up room was the perfect place to lounge and just hang out. I would diffidently stay there again!

A man who worked for the hotel walked into my room after one knock and I wasn’t clothed. He didn’t bring anything into my room or say why he went in just sorry and left. I complained , sent emails, there’s no number to call and now 5 days later nobody has contacted me. Horrible & traumatic experience.

The room with swim up pools were freezing and a waste of money in fefruary. I complained and they said the would look into it but did nothing. No acknowledgement of birthday during the stay room service was okay. Everything was 40mjn to an hour.
Pool and beach service made pool drinks and there were never enough towels. Food was okay to good but it was not 4.5 or 5 star. Overcook or lacked flavor. Won’t be back. Excellence playa mejures was better year ago

Chezisabelle needs to let people know about the cheese cart when you first sit down.

Room refrigerator leaks water, ac leaks water in front of sink, ac blower fan is noisy, closet light keeps turning out (motion light) if your standing in there for few minutes

Alcohol in bottle is not what’s on the bottle label.

Restaurants need to show what’s open by date not just that day.

Martini bartenders not very friendly. It’s like you’re bothering them when you ask for a drink.

Overall stay at el Carmen not what was expected for excellence. Excellence Punta Cana was much better

The staff, food and service were incredible, however if you are prone to mosquito bites as I am, please bring good mosquito repellent as I was bit nightly throughout my stay even with using the OFF spray purchased at the gift store. This is actually the 1st resort I’ve encountered mosquitos. It appears it’s been a long standing issue at this resort.

I genuinely had no complaints about this resort. Would recommend if you’re looking for a luxurious relaxing vacation. I suggest getting the excellence club package during your stay because you’ll have access to amenities and restaurants that you otherwise wouldn’t be able to enjoy. Staff were super friendly, room was clean, would definitely come again.

The room was not very clean, the whole bathroom area is in need of renovation, and was not cleaned the whol 5 days we were there.The quality of the food was not good, few times we had to replace a dish because we recive food we did not order, or the menu did not match the dish. Communication with staff was very hard as most do not speak English.

The rooms were beautiful, the ground was beautiful, didn't like having to use your phone for everything, no print as anywhere you have to go to a website and see a map and if you are not to phone savvy you are in big trouble, no menus, staff and Waters don't speak English, so un less you can speak there language, it's really hard to communicate, food was really bad, lots of restaurants but not always open, Buffett only open for breakfast, then only one or two a night, Beach was really bad not attending, I know it's hard to predict the weather but, not a pretty beach area at all, pools were packed and very small. No entertainment, the show's don't start until 9:30, way to late and too loud, almost painful 😖, so no we didn't enjoy our vacation at all, will research more next time, we was really not comfortable there at all. Not for older people, no help at the front desk, they would not tell us anything about what was happening, just say you have to use the website, we felt like we were in a Steven King movie 🎥 or a dream and could not wake up.the worst experience we ever had.

We had a swim-up room and theomemt we walled in the room smelled like moisture humidity- wet. The bed sheets felt moist allthe time even after changes. The food was horroble nothing authentic as i am a native. They do not cater to Dominicans at all not even in the entertainment area. Unfortunately will never ever recommend this hotel. Staff were very nice because of them we had a good time ans was able to get some ok food one day i payed for a fish. Overall 0-1 for the amount of money we spent os very sad to rate this way.

We really enjoyed our stay. We celebrated my wife’s 55th birthday there. Our favorite staff members were Stivenson, who we first met at Spice(Interactive Entertainment Hiabachi) and at The Kitchen Table. He’s so attentive and basically knew what we wanted when we got there. He would have a special table for us and our beverage would be coming up as soon as we sat down. Robinson was a good waiter too there.
Yari was our entertainment and beach/pool staff. She’s so friendly and so welcoming to us all the time.
This was a great time for us. My wife said this was the best birthday so far.
We enjoyed The Grill for dinner, Sports Bar was good too, Los Olas was good for beach and pool time. The drinks were the bomb. Our overall experience there was a 10/10.
We recommend people to be looking for Stivenson &his bubbly personality. The towel art in the room was really cute. The room service was good, too. No real complaints. And the drinks were great!!!

We've been to over 34 different hotels in Punta Cana, and this was by FAR THE WORST. At any given time they only had 2-3 restaurant open and they all would serve the CHEAPEST possible food you could ever imagine and then to add insult to injury they would give you the tiniest portions.

I literally couldn't believe I was staying at a 5 star hotel, I've been to several 3 star hotels in punta cana that were FAR SUPERIOR.. and I could go on and on about all the areas this hotel cheaps out - but thank me later and just save your money and stay at ANOTHER hotel cause you will be extremely disapointed if you pay extra money thinking you're going to get a higher quality experience here. I have no idea how they have so many good reviews (makes me quite suspicious actually..)

Oh and the cherry on top was they also decided to do construction right on the building they put us in, despite the hotel being largely empty and them easily being able to put somewhere else, just wow.. words can't describe how disappointing this experience was.

Property is excellent, but all of all the restaurants, the Indian and the Mexican were the best. Everything felt like it was premade and they just heated it up per customer. Sadly lacking in food department. Went there to relax and sleep in late but… the maids at 7 am were really noisy seemed like they had to yell from one end of the hall to the other to each other, I even tipped them 20 a piece to start later but didn’t help. Most of the staff are friendly and polite. Room was great!! Spa is a good place to get a massage! If your a foodie this is not good.

Amazing, amazing resort. We went for our honeymoon and had a great time! Spent most of our time on the beach, which was well maintained and had drink service all day!
