Stayed 3 nights with 1 room 2 nights, 1 room 3 nights and never cleaned our rooms take out trash or bring new towels/linens. Had one vehicle there and parked in capital city lot, was given what we thought was a pass for validation to park while staying at Hotel 340. When we exited we were charged $84 for parking. We also had a third reservation for another room and never got that room that was booked through Hotels.com.

Beautiful hotel. Love the US mail shoot. Unfortunately our room was not set up properly. The space could have been set up better with a more appropriate sized bed. We had a tiny bed in between two walls and a huge night stand where I could barely get out of bed. Had to scoot to bottom of bed to get off. I was getting anxious and claustrophobic! Couldn’t wait for our stay to be over. The bed was not comfortable at all.

Breakfast was good. Thankfully the young lady had opened breakfast slightly before 7. Would be great if they would open by 6:30.

Was easy to miss when driving by. Luckily, we parked in the parking ramp that the hotel was contracted for. Room was smaller than anticipated. The mattress was so uncomfortable, we kept sliding into the middle. Heard weird noises throughout the night, thought it was the heater but turned out there were articles that said the hotel was haunted. Was not aware until afterwards that we had complimentary passed to the Athletic Club until after we checked out and read some articles online - this would have been nice to know at check-in. After 10 (I think) the doors are locked and need the keycard to enter, the doors were sticking so we had to wait for someone to let us in. The buzzer volume was so low we couldn't hear the first time we buzzed in. Breakfast was great! Fresh fruit, waffles, cereal, etc. Overall, it wasn't a terrible stay but be prepared to sink into the middle of your bed.

Not worth the price

The beds are comfy but the rooms and service wasn't great. Our hotel room was so small you can't open doors or cupboards all the way without hitting something. We got locked out of the skyway entrance and no one was working the front desk on a Saturday night to answer our calls or let us in. We had food delivered and an hour later there still was no one at the front desk and our delivery person was locked outside. I tried to bring it up the next day at checkout but the front desk person gave me a bunch of attitude and didn't seem to believe me. Breakfast was also very disappointing. I can get a better breakfast at a Comfort Inn, the whole experience just wasn't worth the price of the room. They also don't validate parking and you only save $1 a night. We had to pay $36 in parking for the weekend.

My husband and I enjoyed the hotel and its atmosphere. Loved the old style of everything and how it has been kept up. Stayed there so could go to wild game.
Front clerk was very cheerful and helpful with hotel information and also surrounding area, to find a place to eat and how to get to xcel center.

Hotel340 has great bones and a great location. That is all the positive i can callout. The room furnishings are completely outdated and with the exception of the bed boarding on disgusting. There was absolutely no water pressure in the shower. The continental breakfast was awful. Tried to play pool in the billiard room (1 table) but it was blocked by a ladder. There was a cart full of dirty linens sitting in the hall on our floor.

It was so bad we left a day early, unless they do serious remodeling and repair i would not recommend.

Awesome place, cozy, unique, historical.

Really cool hotel. Lots of cool history. Only complaint was the air was so, so dry, I could hardly sleep. I attribute a lot of this to it being in the dead of winter. However, the bed wasn't terribly comfortable. That didn't help with the trouble sleeping either.

Made a reservation thru Expedia in June for a night in October. When we got to the hotel to check in, they couldn’t find a reservation under our name or our confirmation number. They told us they had nothing on file and they were booked that night because of two weddings. My mom also booked a room directly with the hotel on their website and had the confirmation number and they couldn’t find her reservation either. Amarys told us there was nothing she could do and called two other hotels downtown to make a reservation for us but of course they were sold out as well because of the hockey game. Forty-five minutes later we ended up with rooms that were scheduled for maintenance. Ours ended up being a suite which was an “upgrade” from the full we had booked and he honored our Expedia price but our bathroom sink wouldn’t drain and the shower didn’t have hot water. All that to save $100 instead of just going with a more reputable hotel.

Property was so conveniently located for event at xcel center. Lots of great places to eat and wander with parking just across the street available for hotel desks. Only problem we had was kind of a major one but it worked out. Came back to hotel after the time they lock the doors however our swipe card did not work. Used the intercom help button and no one answered. Called the phone number listed for assistance and no one answered. Really unsettling standing outside in the dark with a kid, unable to get into the building. Luckily after waiting for almost half an hr; another guest was coming out so we got in. Otherwise would stay here again. Perfect breakfast however check out was quite early so plan accordingly.

Location for my show was great. Old school charm, beautiful lobby area room. Didn't have time for pool and gym but it covers a whole floor (Athletic Club). Joe at check in was great and personable. He left me a hand colored note with drawing asking me if there was anything else I needed, to let him know. The young lady at check out was friendly and we chatted about sci-fi shows. I was able to hang out a couple hours after check out to meet a business contact and use a computer room. The expansive colonnaded entry room is lovely and a wedding was coming up there that day.
I checked out on time but somehow the computer didn't close it until the PM so a late charge was added. A phone call and and email and it was returned in a few days. Real keys added to the charm. Room was small but efficient and the bed was excellent. A good rate for the location. The booking said balcony but there was none. Overall I was very happy and would stay there again!

I liked the old-style feel, but the teeny-tiny room wasn’t very clean. We found old receipts and an empty little bottle of Jack Daniels in the dresser, and the noise from the metro kept me awake.
A clean room and a fan to drown out the metro noise would have made all the difference.
Staff was friendly. The parking wasn’t great, mostly because the staff in the parking booth were extremely rude.
Last complaint was when we went to check out, no one was at the front desk for a good 7+ minutes. There were about 3 other people trying to check out at that time.

Overall, it wasn’t terrible, but I won’t stay there again.

Needs a serious facelift

Hotel 340 has wonderful potential as a beautiful historic building, but needs a real upgrade. The facilities are very dated (shower towel rack fell to the ground when reaching for a towel, the water stopped working in the rooms for a few hours). Additionally, the rooms had a dust build up in some areas (behind the TV, under the nightstand, etc). Finally, the staff were not very helpful or friendly, particularly a man at the front desk named Joe who was openly sarcastic.

We had a great stay at Hotel 340 for a couple of nights; staff was very accommodating, friendly, helpful with recommendations of where to go, dine, and any sightseeing. The hotel has a great early-century history and look, great rooms and spaces to hang out. Our room was very comfortable, and made our stay very enjoyable. Service for any requirements for the room were prompt and courteous. we will definitely stay there again. We highly recommend it.

The hotel is historic and beautiful. Our room was very cozy but comfortable. The continental breakfast was okay. Not sure if they always serve what we had or if they had what they had ( yogurt cups, fresh fruit and some dry muffins. Juice and coffee.) There weren't many patrons staying when we were there so it maybe influenced what was served.

Had a 2 day stay that was nice. Old,historic beautiful building with nice rooms,simple but good breakfast. Safe boxes in the lobby. Check out the haunted ballroom. Nice location within walking distance of most sights. Only disappointment was that they couldn't be bothered to provide a grab and go breakfast for our early check out which was mean. Other than that enjoyed our stay.

Great small boutique hotel in St. Paul.

Great:
Service, hotel amenities like toiletries provided, skyway walkability, access to vending machine drinks and snacks, and gym.

Could use improvement:
Bed quality (a little squishy), shower temperature sensitivity is extreme (almost got burned), breakfast is adequate but not the best. Wi-fi is slow. Parking is paid which is understandable but the system of showing the paid receipt each time is a little cumbersome.

Overall, an enjoyable stay.

Not sure if I will give it a third try.

I stayed at this hotel before and I love the vintage and boutique feel. My girlfriend and I were happy with our room and it was very convenient for seeing my family in the area. The room was on the small side, but we didn’t mind at all. My experience this time was waaay different and somewhat awful. The room wasn’t ready when I went to check in so I waited and when I got up to the room I don’t think it should’ve been rented to anyone. The refrigerator/freezer wasn’t function. All the ice in the ice bin was melted. They had either broken or cranked up the air freshener to cover up a smell maybe. Either way the room smelled so overwhelmingly of glade tropical something that it was making me nauseous and there was no way to stop it. Handles were broken and the ceiling of the bathroom was literally falling in small pieces on to the floor. There was no toilet paper in the room. And the directions for the shower were somewhat inaccurate and confusing causing water to shoot out when I wanted to shower. I honestly was really looking forward to staying in this hotel again, after our last experience and it’s also a place that I want to love because it’s so convenient for my trips home, but after this last visit I would be a little wary of staying there again.

If the building itself was much newer, I guess that the room price would be much pricey.
1. TV was suddenly shut down when watching without doing anything
due some tv connection issue from the old building?
2. A bathroom does not have a fan.
3. Breakfast was not ready at 6am. (Open 6 to 10am) Some staff said,, \"It would be open, maybe, 30 mins. later..\". not sure actual time, because we had to leave earlier.

Nice old hotel, preview room before settling in.

Hotel is very nostalgic and full of character. Room provided was not comfortable. It was very small. Windows looked out into an interior space, looking across into other rooms so basically no natural light. Room itself was dimly lit and one set of lights underneath the kitchen counter did not work, thereby making the room even dimmer. Bathroom ceiling paint was peeling. No doubt due to no proper ventilation. Hotel itself was in a great location. Convenient to walk or pick up mass transit.

The first time we stayed here, we loved this hotel. Which is why we chose to stay here again. I was disappointed this time though. The bathroom and floors were not clean at all. We found hair everywhere. And there was a questionable hair and wrapper left on the bathroom sink. Kind of grossed me out. Also I forgot something in the room and noticed as soon as I for home. I called the hotel immediately but they said they were unable to find anything. I know it was in the room, so where did it go? It means they either threw it out or kept it. Neither of which is acceptable. They should at least make an effort to contact the guest to see what to do with the item. I would even have paid for them to ship it to my home. Also, there was absolutely no wi-if. The site claims they have high speed internet, but neither my husband or I could get any connection. My biggest issue though was the lack of cleanliness.

On check in we had to listen to a obnoxious person behind the counter argue with someone on the phone at expedia about overbooking them and who was going to pay! Fortunately it wasn't us that wasn't getting a room! Also during check in another quest came to the counter that had just checked in and said someone was already in the room. In our room the paint was peeling on the ceiling, windows were very dirty, the laminated flooring was swelling at the seems from water damage and the freezer had a partial bottle of wine coated in frost and frozen to the shelf because it had been in there so long. The breakfast was also disappointing, very small selection of items and area not well kept. We were in the area for an event at the excel energy center and were charged a rate that was exorbitant. Over all I felt violated for what we were charged for this type of accommodations!

They said there was a bar in the lobby. There was not. We were booked into a room that wasn't what I thought I booked, and there was no response other than \"sorry\". The furnishings in the room were old and shabby and 2 of the four bedposts were missing on one of the beds. The lighting was terrible. If you relamp a fixture please put both new bulbs in so the temperature of the light is the same. Argh!

A very old hotel without all the normal comforts I am accustomed to in modern hotels. Room was small, TV is in a very odd location that was hard to watch from the bed, ice is on a different floor and is just in a tub you must skip, and I had a lot of issues with the wifi. I will say the manager was very accommodating and went above and beyond to make me happy. If you like older hotels with character (and possibly haunted), then this is a good place for you.

The air-conditioner could not keep the room cool it was very warm and sticky which made it very hard to sleep. There is lead paint on the ceiling of the bathroom curling and ready to fall off. Shower curtain was dirty and full of pink mold. I made coffee in the morning and I had nothing to stir my cream and sugar with. Their excuse for a breakfast was by far the worst I have ever had staying at a hotel.

My new go-to in Saint Paul

Stayed in a king room. Very spacious and comfortable! Appreciated the few essential dishes provided as well as the toaster and real mini fridge with separated freezer space. The bonus is complimentary access to The Saint Paul Athletic Club (SPAC) which occupies multiple floors and offers an adult- only pool, indoor track, various gym equipment and machines, very large weight room, and free access to all of their classes offered during your stay!

Room is on the smaller side, but suited my needs no problem. Very quiet and walking distance to a lot of restaurants and bars, and the InterContinental St. Paul Riverfront where my confernce was at.

This is an older building which we found intriguing.
When we had problems with our shower working I had asked a staff member if he could show me what I might be doing wrong, when he couldn't get it to work I said well we will need to switch out room. He told us to come downstairs to check out of initial room and give back key mind you we had to repack our stuff, only to go back up with a new key for new room next floor above original. Once in that room I realized the garbage under \"kitchen\" sink was not thrown out. It was late in the evening close to midnight so I think perhaps he might have been the only staff member. However, he was nice and did help us get into a new room nonetheless. Breakfast in the morning was not good, I thought for the rating of this hotel it would of been better. Bed was comfortable which is very important to me, and parking garage across the street was accessible through bridge walkway and reasonable for overnight. Our room had 2 windows we kept blinds shut because view was of other room windows.

Hotel 340 was a charming surprise! The rooms are spacious and full of nice touches like a Kuerig coffee machine, mini kitchen and shower/sauna. And I booked a standard room! That's probably why my view was nothing to write home about but the breakfast included wonderful fresh berries with yogurt and a nice array of breads and cereals and the athletic club facilities were impressive. Plus, I loved the old-world vibe of this turn-of-the-century athletic club/hotel. I would stay again in a heartbeat.

My room needed a lot of help. The toilet was very loud and my room was very tiny. The general historic nature of the building was very interesting and unique.

Had a problem, booked 2 rooms with hotels.com; only had one when I got there. Was to be 4 nights and only had 3. Person at front desk was as helpful as possible; since there were no extra rooms. Moved us to a bigger room so we could have a rollaway bed; and was able to add another night. Called and no other rooms available within a 10 mi. radius so I am thankful we had a place to stay and that he was so helpful and nice.

Not sure what I think. The parking garage situation was not great. I had a long walk to my room and it was not easily marked and front desk staff gave me zero directions. Please put some directions in the elevator in the parking garage. The hotel next door does that uses the same parking garage. The breakfast was non existant. The room was so small I stubbed my toe daily. The room is too crowded. I also was placed in a room over looking another building boiler system.
It ran the entire time. The noose was so loud you couldn't hear the television. The best thing about the whole experience was the housekeeping staff. They were friendly and helpful. Also the light rail is right out the door. I have experienced this small boutique hotel which is what I wanted to do. Not sure if I need to do it again.

It was good, except the hotel said they comp the parking ticket, when I went to get my car in the parking ramp, the lady said they do not do that, so the hotel needs to stop telling customers that the parking will be comped...no, you will pay the$17 for parking.not free.

Great place for a short stay

Overall, the hotel is good: Beautiful building conveniently located in the center next to bus stops, Light Rail stop, and theaters. The hotel's fitness center is superb. The room was comfortable and included a kitchenette complete with silverware. The breakfast was another high point: A spacious room with a self-serve buffet that had just the right kinds of food. I felt that the room could have been cleaner, though, and on my last day the in my room toiletries were not replaced. The biggest drawback was the Wi-Fi connection that tended to grow extremely slow in the evening and disappear completely around 11 pm.

A great hotel, but has 3 major flaws that ruin it.

Was amazing in every way except a few things.
1.) Room was the size of a cruise liner basic stateroom(VERY SMALL), very cramped for space, hardly even room for luggage. Bathroom was also VERY SMALL and cramped. For $125/night I expect a room I can be comfortable in, and I'm not big guy(6ft, 190lbs).
2.) Bed was small and cramped for 2 ppl, banged my toes on foot board all night long, and bed wasn't very comfy. Again, For $125/night I expect a bed I can be comfortable in, and I'm not big guy(6ft, 190lbs).
3.) $17/night to park makes $125 room actually a $142 room, for $17 I better get valeted and my bags toted.

our stay was great. the staff was wonderful, the beds were super comfy. we loved the old ornate surroundings. However, the bathroom sink was WAY too small. It was only good for washing hands. we couldn't even brush our teeth in it. We also missed some sort of coffee table.

Room was spacious but the floor was dirty. No restaurant on site. The bar is kind of a joke, the front desk have to man the bar. Staying at this hotel is sort of like eating at Applebees, it's okay, it's just not going to wow you.

The hotel was quite interesting. It shared the building with the St. Paul Athletic Club which we had full access to during our stay. The hotel’s charm was brought out by it’s nostalgic beauty. Our room was a small, but for the price, it was right. We didn’t spend much time in the room anyway. I forgot my toothbrush, I do that a lot and the hotel hooked me up with one from the front desk. Despite the quaintness of the room, we’d stay there again. The proximity to the train was convenient as we were going to the Twins game that evening. The bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows, that is the way I like it. The continental breakfast was better than I thought it would be; I don’t know, maybe I was hungry. I usually like the hot breakfast amenities, but the continental breakfast worked out fine. The parking was a bit pricey at $14/ day, but it allowed you to come and go as much as you needed to and was relatively close to the hotel. Overall, decent stay, no real complaints.

We LOVED this hotel. The property is BEAUTIFUL. You first walk in to a chandelier and a lit fireplace in this beautiful, gorgeous great room. Even the lobby bathrooms were stunning! The rooms were so quaint and just awesome. We loved the hardwood floors and the quirky, differently set up bathrooms. I'm told no room is exactly alike and I'm excited to see what my next room will look like. The air conditioner wasn't the quietest ever, but it did its job and it wasn't super obnoxious. The staff was very friendly. Not 5 minutes after we first got to our room, housekeeping knocked on the door to ask if we needed any extra water or more towels. I was pleasantly surprised. The front desk staff were super nice and professional. We didn't use the fitness floors, but we did chat with a woman at the desk and she was my favorite staff we ran in to. Very personable and professional, but funny and an awesome personality. The breakfast was great! The breakfast staff were also very nice. If I'm ever in the area again, this is the place I'll be staying. It was so nice and refreshing to not stay at a hotel chain and instead stay somewhere local.

Great historic hotel conveniently located to much that downtown St. Paul has to offer. Staff was friendly, room was clean and cozy. It doesn’t have the overdone opulence of some other historic places in the area but that was part of the appeal for me.

Loved the old-world charm and the fantastic sports facilities, although we did not have much time to use them. Our queen-sized room was actually two rooms (plus bath with shower), and one of the rooms had a tiny-home sized kitchen with microwave, keurig coffee maker, good-sized refrigerator and sink, and lots of cabinets and counter space. The location is convenient to walk just about everywhere downtown and connects to the skyway. We attended the opera during this visit.
