Celeste has great potential as a hotel. The location was amazing for our purpose- just a short walk to Harriet Island. There was an awful smell coming from the elevator for the duration of our stay. Our room was missing half of the blackout curtain, and the Juliet balcony was full of French fries brought it from local pigeons. Overall, it is a good value for the location, but I would not choose to stay here again.

The staff was very friendly but the room was humid with the AC running as low as it would go. Terrible sewer smell on the elevator. I upgraded to a king suite but there was nothing special at all about the room.

Traveled from Illinois. Upon arrival greeted warmly by registration. Quick process! Gave great suggestions for dinner within walking distance. As I was walking to my room, I was immediately impressed with the decor of Celeste Hotel and the wonderful maintenance of such an old building. Took pictures of all the beautiful artwork and the warm, cozy areas throughout building which invited quests to sit and relax. My room was spotless, and made me feel right at home! Perfect for any traveler, business or personal. Enjoyed a glass of wine after dinner-the bar has a number of lovely areas for guests to converse. It was very quiet during the night. Personally loved the tile and shower in the bathroom! Impressive! I had to depart prior to breakfast in the Chapel, and was very disappointed, as that would have been a wonderful way to start my day. Perhaps another stay is in my future! Thanks to all!! ❤️

Staff very friendly, comfortable bed, good breakfast. Walking distance to Arena where we saw concert. Room at first had slight old musty smell but with in minutes you didn’t notice it and I’m sensitive to smells and didn’t give me troubles. There was some loud sirens at night which was only true down fall.

Parking offsite, but close by. It’s urban with some questionable homeless folks roaming the block. The garden on the bottom floor wasn’t available for viewing and you can definitely see how old the building is. The breakfast wasn’t anything special. Coffee was good. Staff was very nice and friendly!! The rooms are spacious and clean. The overall vibe is very classy with historical art pieces to look at.

The location of the hotel allowed us to walk everywhere in downtown St. Paul. Our room was unique and had views of two beautiful churches, the light rail and also the state capital. The breakfast was a thoughtful arrangement of foods including soy milk which delighted me! The downstairs bar was a nice spot to sit and relax with friends.
The staff was welcoming and easy to communicate with. We can't wait to come back!!

My husband and I are in our late 70's and arrived in the pouring rain with nowhere to park and no one to assist us. The hotel is not easily accessed for older people (2 sets of stairs to front door, no portico to protect you from inclement weather), and it is located in not a great part of town . The staff is not friendly or courteous. I don't know why Hotels.com gives it a good rating. We ended up leaving the hotel without staying and went to the Doubletree - this is the worst hotel experience we have ever had with Hotels.com.

I wanted to stay here since it opened. My expectations were high. The first disappointment was when I called the hotel and asked about parking. I was on my way over to the hotel at the time. I can only say that the employee was rude at best. Once there everything went alright.

The room was adequate, though there wasn't anywhere to put clothes since there wasn't a dresser. The bed was way too soft for my tastes, but others in our group thought that the beds were great.

The bathroom was very, very clean. I was impressed by this. And it was tastefully done.

The breakfast was completely uninspired. The exact same thing everyday. I thought there would be a little more inspiration there.

We had cocktails in the lounge. They were good, but very overpriced.

The staff was not overly friendly, most did not greet us when we saw them, including in the dining room. Also there's no housekeeping during our stay.

The property itself is very interesting, and they've done a good job integrating the historical elements. I thought a historical display wall would have been interesting.

The neighborhood around the hotel is almost a complete ghost town. There were lots of homeless people around and people asking for money. At the same time there were plenty of security people walking around, who were very helpful when I asked them questions. I do not know how safe it is at night. Since it was the middle of June, we had plenty of light.

There are some great restaurants within a of th

A great unique experience, especially if you have a Roman Catholic background and a sense of humor. Nothing too irreligious, but just the right touch of whimsy about the building's palpable prior existence as a convent.

This hotel is an exceptional experience with its wonderfully preserved architecture and modern conveniences to its stained glass windows and clever, but tasteful, reminder of its former life as a convent. Tasty breakfast is served in the chapel dining room. Great location in the heart of St. Paul.

Unusual level of cool or creepy depending on your perspective. This was once a convent, nicely renovated with cool floor tiles and decor but with lots of old nun images everywhere. Highest marks to the staff-- friendly, helpful \"Minnesota Nice\" in the best way. Room was clean and well-stocked. The bad: no insulation on the very old and in some places cracked windows, making it very noisy all night (because of car racing and people yelling in the street and the trolley right next to the building), also curious noises in the walls (maybe from the plumbing?) Neighborhood is also rather sketchy at night with almost nothing in walking distance. Local friends say they've enjoyed the bar, but the breakfast service was no better than a chain hotel.

I love the uniqueness of the place! It’s so cute, all the rooms are a little different. Their updated and nice with very comfortable beds and pillows.
The parking is close but the lot over charges. There were a couple times I paid over $30 for less than 9 hours and it says $17 for 24 hour. Super annoying!!

Charming idea for a boutique hotel, but poor execution and not optimal location.

Building used to be a nunnery and has a charming nun themed decoration. That’s the highlight.

Check in was slow with only one couple in front of us. There computer system was down and they didn’t seem to have a back up plan.

Charming cocktail bar with a fun selection of nun themed cocktails, however due to a poorly stocked bar, many of the options were not available. Only one bartender and no wait staff. Because most folks ordered cocktails, service was very slow and bar was only about 1/3 full.

Light sleepers should bring earplugs. Hotel is right next to the light rail tracks, an intersection and a rail stop. Horn blows for intersection and clanging at stop to alert passengers. There’s also a church across the street that rings bells for Sunday am service.
Breakfast is included from 7-10. We arrived at 8. Eggs were gone, the only staff person was cooking another batch that when done, disappeared in 5 minutes. Out of coffee, out of pastries, low on bread. Tiniest yogurt cups I’ve ever seen. “Sausages” looked like cut up hotdogs. I didn’t sample.

Rooms are cute, but lacking. Only one chair in our room and only one side of the bed had a nightstand. No phone. Limited selection on TV and poor sound quality. Only one working elevator which guests had to compete with cleaning staff for room. No ghost sightings. That might be a + or - for you!

What’s not to love about the Celeste? Everything you could ask for in a cozy hotel. Lovely accomodating staff, warm breakfast, the room was clean both upon arrival and when my partner and I were out and about. Parking was right next door at the World Trade Center parking ramp, and wasn’t expensive (overnight park there was $24; compared to Chicago, that’s a steal). We got the Capitol view room, straight across from the elevator. The view of the Capitol building may have been covered by some trees, but hardly a dealbreaker— especially because when we went, most days and evenings are extremely quiet! No loud noises save the nearby church and nearby Metro Transit tram bells. You’ll get excellent sleep. In all, I’d highly recommend the Celeste if you want a place to set out on your adventures in the heart of St. Paul.

Really phenomenal building! History galore! They did a great job with the upgrades and it was very clean! Comfortable beds and all the hot water a gal could want! The staff really made it for me though! The front desk woman was so kind, huge smile always, and friendly the whole way through my stay! The bar staff was also phenomenal! Great personalities! Parking was very convenient also! I will most certainly stay again!

Breakfast was good. The room was underwhelming. The closet was tiny and had 3 hangers. Tgere was no dresser at all so where do they expect you to put your clothes. I guess they want you in and out while living out of your suitcase. The closet had a ironing board where the clothes should be hung so it's impossible to hang your clothes unless you put the ironing board in the middle of the already tight room and you had to bring your own hangers. The bar was nice but 2 nights in a row the bartender said he couldn't make a white Russian because he had no cream. He said the hotel doesn't stock the bar well. I was like I\"ll go to the store because my wife wants a white Russian. The hotel is cool and quaint but ambulances go right past it all night long.

Our stay was great, with special thanks to the front desk staff! She was friendly and incredibly helpful, letting us check in a little early and even switching our room after the ground floor, street side room was a little noisy for us the first night.

Breakfast was good, with plenty of options. We loved the concept of the hotel, and how well it was carried out through all of the rooms. The location was great, with the gorgeous capitol building a short walk away.

Parking was $12/day at the Minnesota lot between 7th and 9th. It’s pay by plate, so you can come and go. It was only a 5 minute walk through the church parking lot, and we felt comfortable going back and forth at night.

The only complaints are outside the control of the hotel staff: there are two manhole covers on Cedar St that cars clank over, making rooms on that side of the hotel rough for any lighter sleepers. This can be solved with ear plugs. There was also some trash that accumulated on the front steps of the hotel, but that was over the weekend and it did not remain. I would definitely stay again if I visit St. Paul in the future!

This is such a great spot and location. I have stayed here about 5 times since the fall. In that time, the small restaurant/bar on the first floor has been a lovely environment, but often lacking a number of items on the menu. Breakfast, on the other hand, is substantial and full - the breakfast is very good.

The hotel is a comfortable, spacious, welcoming place to stay. As a renovated convent, it has dark wood and a stark flavor to the decor, but the spaciousness and quiet elegance of the hotel makes it all very appealing. We got a free upgrade to an executive suite, which we appreciated. The room was very spacious. The shampoo, shower gel, etc. were lovely. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was decent-- better than many hotels in the area. My husband and I will happily stay there whenever we're visiting St. Paul.

Two nights stay here in a comfortable room. The room lacked places to sit and a table to set things on, and there were no drawers to unpack clothing into. It was surprisingly lacking in furniture for such a spacious room. We used the ironing board for a table to set our things on. Parking in adjacent ramp was convenient and not very expensive, $17/day. Location is superb, within walking distance of the state capital as well as the entertainment district. We had our choice of four different plays or musical events on Saturday night. several museums are also nearby. Generous breakfast, bar in lobby is comfortable and serves light appetizers. The hotel plays up its former convent theme charmingly.

Considering the hotel is not part of a chain and is in downtown St. Paul, I think the prices and amenities offered were great, particularly the hot breakfast. I really enjoyed the aesthetic and theme, the staff were kind and helpful, and the overall operation of the hotel seemed very smooth. However, the room itself left something to be desired. My partner and I stayed in the lowest priced room, the Convent Room, and I wasn't expecting luxury but what we got was still disappointing. The mattress was very thin and we could feel the bed frame underneath it, the carpet was very worn and you could tell many shoes had walked on it, and there was no additional seating in the room besides the bed. I still greatly enjoyed my stay and the staff but I feel like the pictures on the website are slightly misleading and want to make sure others understand what they are getting.

Unique boutique hotel with eclectic decor drawing upon its history as a nunnery. The bar is it's crown jewel where you will find yourself sitting amongst European travelers, theater goers and touring musicians surrounded by artifacts from early last century. Ms.Keri at the front desk runs a tight ship and will make sure that your stay is comfortable and that you are well taken care of.

We've stayed at this hotel many times because we love it -- it's a beautiful property with tons of art & history, SUPER helpful & kind staff, reasonable prices, unique rooms, & an ideal location for downtown St. Paul restaurants, theatres, and sports. The bar has great cocktails, the rooms have these cute wall cabinets with an ice bucket and two snifter-style glasses, there's a light rail station within a block, and the breakfast area is in the old chapel, which has gorgeous high ceilings and stained glass windows. The art in the building is everywhere, and super interesting; a must-see is the painting in the hallway behind the bar that leads to the restrooms and indicates which way the ladies' and gents' are, I SWEAR it's based upon the actor John Heard. Give this one a try and you'll love it as much as we do!

I am a repeat patron at Celeste. It is always a top stay when lodging in St. Paul for business or pleasure. Quiet and quaint setting, with bar and optional sitting. Only problem was that initial entry to a room, left us seeking a working and functional bathroom. Otherwise, would have given five stars again to this facility.

The hotel was fully booked for a concert nearby so you'd think they'd pull some stops. The staff were friendly enough, but this is definitely a mid hotel. The coolest thing going for it was the history and architecture. Midwest can have back and forth weather, but the rooms were quite warm. We requested fans and that helped but there is no cooling system in place otherwise. Our friends were also staying and they ended up in a garden level that hummed constantly. At first, staff were confused and denied such a thing, but then they claimed it was the laundry. They promised it would stop by the evening but it was still going. It definitely would have made them go insane so we swapped with them. When we moved in, it was clear that there were design flaws. The bed frame being metal and jutting out in a somewhat tight space--my fiance and I have bruises from hitting our shins on it. We attempted to open the drawers of the nightstand and it was stickied shut, so something leaked and they didn't catch the spill. There was also a lighter underneath the nightstand. There is only one trash reciprical near the door to the room. Nothing in the bathroom. Anyhow, it really was just design flaws that made the room not as nice as other places we have stayed. The bathroom was nicely renovated though. The breakfast was a let-down with little offerings and the parking situation was a garage behind with little help from staff since they weren't associated. $60 for a two nights, three day park-ew.

The staff was very friendly, the hotel is very clean, the location is great, although requires you to pay for parking. My only critique of this hotel would be the breakfast. It has cereal, milk, prepackaged oatmeal, and muffins that look like they have been frozen and thawed. Totally acceptable, but not great. Also, if you’re superstitious, this hotel might make you feel a bit spooked.

Loved this quaint hotel. Great ambience. Nice mattresses. Quiet, very quiet. Breakfast was your normal hot/cold fair so fine but nothing too exciting. Convent to some downtown locations. There is public parking right at the back. We had to walk around the building with our luggage, nor sure if there was a better way, could just be we didn’t know. I think on the winter rooms would be great. Ours was ok temp wise, it had been an almost 60 degree day, a little warm in the room at bedtime was fine by morning. Without A/C I’m not sure I would want to stay in the hot months. All staff we interacted with were fast, friendly and helpful. Would define stay again.

I’m a fan a hotels with character, and this one does it!

Right off the bat, you can tell it’s an older hotel that could use some repairs, but the building has lived a full life with many stories. Oh, if those walls could talk!

I’m not taking off stars because it’s an older property. I knew that going in.

The room was spacious, and clean. The staff were friendly, helpful and just great. I’m also a sucker for a “free” breakfast.

What a great spot. My son and I were in town for the Wild game and I found this hotel using the Expedia search. Got a suite with two fully separate bedrooms, a living room and large washroom, for the same price as most others were asking for a two queen bed room! The building is a converted nunnery from the early 20th century, and they've done a really nice job of it. Included a nice breakfast and small gym. Staff was great as well. Parking is not included, had to park at the adjacent world trade center parking lot, but it is not too expensive there over the weekend (or alternatively, there is free street parking if you can find it). Will return when next in town!

The hotel is wonderful. The history of the property makes it a fun place. It is a close walk to a lot of restaurants and entertainment. However, the property sits near homeless shelter and the neighborhood draws a lot of individuals who are struggling with mental health and drugs. Therefore, walks in the evening did not feel like a safe option. It did feel fairly safe during the daytime when downtown St. Paul is busy with people. *I want to emphasize the property is great but be cautious when traveling outside the location.
