We have stayed at several all inclusive resorts in the Cancun area. We are a family with elementary aged kids that like activities. We were excited to visit Ava. We loved the room. It was kept very clean and the bed was very comfortable. The food at every restaurant was good and the drinks were also very good. The staff was attentive and fairly quick, everywhere.We also liked the unique activities, like “minute to win it” at digit bar, water aerobics, the obstacle course in the main pool, and many others. We were disappointed that we had to pay extra for some of the activities, like bowling, the arcade and laser tag but we tried them and we really enjoyed them.

The biggest disappointment was for our girls because the kids club was not what we were expecting. The schedule was not flexible and had the kids outside all morning. It seems fine, but did not allow a break from the sun for the kids. They were not permitted to choose activities like past resorts. You either did what was on the schedule or not. Their trampolines were broken during our entire 6 day stay. And there were no toys to play with, just the indoor playground. They did enjoy the art class each day. But that was for one hour and we had to wake up early to sign up for it. The hardest part for parents is the 2 hour “family hour” everyday. It is supposed to be a time for families to come in and play with their kids. But in reality, no one wants to sit and watch their kids play at a kids club. It was empty.

We stayed at AVA Resort Cancun and unfortunately our experience was disappointing, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars.

The restaurant food quality was very poor — about 2/5. Many meals lacked flavor and consistency, which was surprising for a resort marketed as luxury.

Our trip also started off difficult because our daughter had a high fever (104°F) during the first couple of days. At one point she asked for an apple, so we called room service and explained the situation. Even after telling them she was sick, it took over an hour to receive a single apple.

We were also approached about attending a sales presentation to buy into the resort membership. We initially declined, but later agreed after being offered incentives like a free cabana, massages, and discounts on activities. However, the process was very pressured and involved being passed between multiple staff members for most of the morning. Even after explaining our daughter was sick and saying no several times, they kept pushing and suggested service would be better if we purchased the membership.

Another concerning moment was finding a spider in a premade salad. When we told a staff member, she simply placed the salad back in the fridge without apologizing.

The kids club is also limited, only allowing children 4+ and offering few options for younger kids at inconvenient times.

The property is beautiful, but the service and food quality did not meet five-star expectations. Unfortunately, we would not return.

Ava was a nice facility, however considering the amount you pay to stay at the property you would expect the rooms to be exceptionally clean. Our room was not the cleanest until the 2nd day when we left a $20 tip for housekeeping. The adult pool was overcrowded and service was extremely slow, which caused my husband & I to have to sit at the kid pool, just to find seating. We were unable to attend the on-sight club 2 nights in a row, due to overcrowding. The club can only accommodate 160 people, so if you're interested, get there extremely early. Prior to checkout, we were promised a complimentary van ride to the airport by one of their staff, however, at checkout they tried to charge us $76 for the ride, which ultimately turned into a mess. Overrall, Ava is a decent resort, but won't be returning.

Second time visiting and we will be back. Welcomed like we were coming home. Rooms are well appointed and have amazing views. Food is fantastic and drinks especially at the lobby bar are amazing. Incredibly family friendly. Their kids club has family time, so if your hesitant on leaving your child or if they are under 4 and can't be left. You can still take them to the indoor playground and trampoline park. See you next year!

The ocean and beach area are not very inviting. For a family looking to spend time at the beach.
Guests should get an email about making reservations for restaurants way before they arrive. Its very upsetting when someone tries to make reservations the day they arrive and they all say full or no opening till 9pm.

The washroom sink and toilet bowl is not really clean on the edge. The restaurants are overall great. Except for the steakhouse, we ordered medium rare for 2 steaks, one came out like rare and other one is overcooked and super salty!

The room was very nice with a gorgeous view, check in was easy, and food was good. We booked this at the very last minute (the day before check in) after deciding to stay in Mexico two extra days. Our main vacation was in Riviera Maya and we chose this for our last two days because it’s close to the airport, has a large pool, and has (a small) beach. Never it was last minute, we didn’t have any dinner reservations but we were still able to get a table at the Mediterranean restaurant with a very short wait, even though there weren’t any reservations available. The staff were all very friendly and helpful throughout the entire resort. The only drawbacks were (1) we were on the 9th floor and there was a loud wind noise in our room literally the entire time we were there and (2) even though it’s “all inclusive” in terms of food and drinks, almost none of the activities are included (ex: laser tag, bowling, escape room, etc). Despite that, it’s a great choice for families and the pool activities are enough to keep kids busy for a few days. Overall, I’d definitely stay here again for a short stay, the day after arriving and/or before leaving Riviera Maya.

Just finished our week vacation at Ava and we had a great time. My wife and I were traveling with our 2 kids ages 11 and 6. Tons of activities for the kids. Pools were great, even enjoyed the beach. Not a lot of seaweed this time a year which makes a big difference. Service was great no issues. We stayed in a 2 bedroom suite which was so nice for the kids to have their own room. Room was beautiful and clean. Grounds and pool were also very clean. Gym was one of the best I’ve used on vacation. Wife enjoyed many of the free classes they offered. Food was excellent. Make reservations ahead of time. We booked everything 1 month in advance. Contact the hotel, don’t wait for them. Did the escape room which is extra charge $45 per person. We actually really enjoyed it despite the extra fee. Also did the racing simulator which was fun. $25 for 10 minutes.

AVA Resort Cancun was a solid 4.5-star resort.
Honestly, I was really surprised at how beautiful the property was and how pleasant everything felt. I’ve already booked my next vacation!

I traveled with my 11-month-old baby, and overall, everything was great — the food (for adults), the interiors, the atmosphere — it delivers what you’d expect from a Google 5-star resort.

That said, here are a few honest cons:

1. Baby food
This was tough. Their kids’ meals already contain salt, even when you request no salt. Most meats are pre-marinated, so it was really difficult to feed a baby under one year old. They don’t really offer suitable options for babies who just started solids.

2. Housekeeping
This isn’t their strongest area. I noticed signs of previous guests — tape residue on walls (probably from birthday decorations), small spills, hair, etc. The bedding was clean, though. If you’re a clean freak, this might bother you. It is a massive resort with thousands of rooms, so this seems to be where they fall short.

3. Restaurants
The nicer restaurants are hard to get into. Sometimes the only available dinner reservations are after 8pm. Walk-ins are often sold out, and having two dinners in one night? Forget it. Room service is available, thankfully.
Livo (Mediterranean) was unfortunately disappointing. Veranda (Italian) was surprisingly weak — especially the pasta and pizza.

There was one other bad food incident, but management apologized sincerely, so I won’t go into detail.

We just got back from AVA Resort in Cancun and had an awesome stay. The property is beautiful, extremely clean, and very well maintained. From check-in to checkout, the staff was welcoming and attentive.

We traveled with our boys and this place is truly family friendly. There was plenty for them to do, and we never felt like it was “adults only” or geared one direction. It had a great balance — fun energy but still relaxing.

The Friends & Family room was a huge hit. It gave us plenty of space to spread out, hang together, and still have privacy when needed. Perfect setup for a family trip.

Great amenities, solid food options, and an overall vibe that made it easy to enjoy time together. We’d definitely come back.

We had an amazing stay at Ava. A beautiful resort with excellent amenities, especially for families and kids. The rooms were so clean and the housekeeping staff did an outstanding job of maintaining them the whole week.
We had turn down service in the evening, restocking supplies daily and personalized touches throughout the week.
Our Expedia Concierge, Sam, was so amazing. She checked in with me daily, made reservations, changed reservations, helped with anything I needed.
The food was very good, a nice variety and the drinks were delicious!
Everything is accessible and plentiful. I honestly don’t have a single negative about this place.

I traveled with my family of four to AVA Hotel, and we had an amazing time. Our room was very spacious and had a breathtaking ocean view.

The hotel is very large, but they offer golf cart service, which made getting around easier. Even without it, most areas—rooms, restaurants, and amenities—were within a 15–20 minute walk. The entire property was very clean and well maintained. The pools were clean and well organized, with different pool areas designed for different age groups. Cabana reservations were available at an extra cost.

The beach itself was clean, although there was still a noticeable amount of seaweed during our stay.

The food was excellent. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options, ranging from Mediterranean to American cuisine. For dinner, most restaurants required reservations, and many were fully booked if not reserved early.

There were a few downsides that, if improved, could make the experience even better. Upon arrival, we were told we would be added to a WhatsApp group to receive daily event updates, but this never happened. I even called to follow up, but we were still not added by the time we checked out. The hotel offered nightly shows in the theater, but they were fairly basic and not something we felt compelled to watch every night. Additionally, the shower drainage in our room was not working properly, causing water to overflow into the bathroom.

Recommendation:
I suggest requesting a room closer to the center of the p

The hotel had nice options for dining, particularly in the evening. But reservations were very hard to get. While almost half of the tables were empty at most restaurants, the hosts weren't letting anyone in without reservations. Definitely something that they should improve.
To make matters worse, the in-room dining service had very long wait times. On the north side, the wait for 90 minutes. If you couldn't get place in a restaurant and come back to order in-room at 10 pm, expect to eat at midnight.

No fan.Hot tubs were a nice touch and the ocean view Food was okay. Restaurant’s were average. Best was the Iron Butcher. The worst was the Italian restaurant. Literally left full plates. Buffet was average. Nothing amazing. Not a fan of all the shops and restaurants being indoors. Felt like a shopping mall. I would say it’s good for a couples quiet getaway. Pools are nice. Didn’t care for majority of the lounge chairs facing the resort instead of the ocean. The beach is small. You can walk from one end to the other in 10 to 15 minutes.

Room was slightly dirty like they cleaned it in a rush, hair on the floor and shower but otherwise it was fine. Stunning view of the ocean and pools downtairs. The staff was impressive, multilingual.. most of the check- in staff speaks to 6 languages, and very friendly and helpful. Food options are way better than Nickelodeon and Hard Rock but the buffet still needs more protein options. On the alcoholic drinks were terrible everywhere. We kept asking for different drinks to find something that hit but no luck. We tried margaritas, palomas, mai tais, long islands. I dont known if its their mix or the soda water they use on the other drinks but it was gross. I ended up with an espresson martini and sipped on one after dinner.

Dont miss the obstacle course in the salt water pool, that was tons of fun for everyone in the family.

When I made my reservation, the resort assigned a personal concierge. However, due to consistently delayed responses, I requested a change but received no reply. To make matters worse, upon arrival, no one attended to my family. Given the rate of over $1,000 per night, I expected the 5-star service you advertise. While the physical facilities are acceptable, the quality of service has been subpar—even for the peak season. This experience barely reflects the standards of a 5-star resort, feeling more like a 3.5-star establishment.

Did not allow anyone to walk up to any of the restaurants for dinner and made reservations mandatory but reservations were only allowed to be made online and it was difficult to find any availability with a complicated system to use for the reservations. The staff gave us the run around about making reservations as if they didn’t want anyone to eat dinner. They gave us reservations either at 10pm or 6pm. Way too many people were booked and not enough accommodations to serve that many people. Always ran out of towels and not enough chairs around the pool. Staff would take your order around the pool and end up giving it to someone else or not bringing it to us as all. Staff barely spoke English.

There was definitely a learning curve to this stay. We were there for 5 nights and got the hang of everything by the 3rd night.

This facility is very beautiful. It’s about 1 km/0.9 mile walk from one end to the other. But it goes by fast while you’re browsing. The arcade and bowling is pay to use, but it’s cheap. There’s taco station, ice cream station, and crêpe station along the way at all hours of the day, which was amazing for a quick snack.

The bar doesn’t start serving alcohol till 11 AM which I thought was weird. But you can get mimosas at breakfast. Love Bailey’s in my coffee and had to ask.

I’d advise getting a hold of your concierge as soon as you book your stay. Look up all the restaurants and make reservations for each restaurant before you get there. We went for Xmas and maybe that’s why everything was booked up. We were able to get dinner reservations on our last night by our concierge who tried his hardest to help. He also helped get our room stocked with water and snacks.

Housekeeping is amazing and fast but they don’t restock the fridge and snacks. A different person does and he comes by midday. If you are not in the room, you don’t get anything. I’d suggest to the facility to give this person a key and if they knock and no answer, as long as no “do not disturb” sign, go in and restock the water, drinks and snacks.

Also they only give beer, water and soda in the room. No hard liquor stocked up in the room like I was used to in other resorts.

Pools were freezing cold despite the warm weather so it was not pleasant at all to swim. Ocean was dirty. Service was TERRIBLE. We went during NYE and despite paying 3x the regular rates, they were operating with a skeleton crew and rooms would go days without cleaning - even if you explicitly called and requested it. I called ahead of time to have a van ready for me to take me to the airport and leaven though they texted me a confirmation, when I went to check out there was no van and there was nothing scheduled. I had booked three rooms and had requested if the rooms could be close by. I knew it wasn’t guaranteed but wanted to see what could be done. During check in the person said they have three rooms side by side and I was extremely happy. Then after all was said and done, he told me it’ll be $8,500 extra. I got pretty upset because had he told me up front they’ll be charging me for side by side rooms, I would have just refused. So then everything had to be reversed and check in took over an hour total. Overall a bad start and just got worse from there. Won’t be coming back - especially during a busy season.

Service was ok room was nice food and drinks were incredible for a fitness girl need more treadmills would wait in the morning for 30 mins to get on one and buffet needs more light fare and berries etc! Salads etc and sugar free desert’s and gluten free items!

The room was very clean and comfortable, and the amenities were great. The staff was friendly and helpful whenever we interacted with them.

Because the hotel is very large and was extremely busy during our stay, there were a few moments where service was slower than expected — for example, snacks in the room weren’t always replenished daily, breakfast could have long lines, and pool service sometimes took quite a while. Overall, it was still a very good experience, just impacted a bit by how full the hotel was.

Check in was easy. The staff is friendly, but busy beyond their capacity. The hotel is not fully open. It’s only 50% open from what I noticed. The restaurants that require reservation, were all booked out. Apparently you can the restaurants via app, which we did not know. T

The housekeeping took more half a day to provide napkins which was inconvenient (we called more than 3x and they would continue to say that it will be there in five mins)

The food options are ok. I have had better food in other resorts. The salsas are amazing.

The room was really nice and the view is amazing.

I would not stay here again

THIS HOTEL — if there is -5 stars, I will put it, not even 1. I am just putting this review to let other people be aware not to be in the same situation that we faced. My family and I came to enjoy, and we paid a lot of money, but unfortunately it was the worst trip ever. We usually travel often and we have seen many other hotels, but like this one, never.

Let me tell you from the first day. Check-in was around 7 pm. We went to eat because we arrived late, and after around 9 pm we went to our room because the kids were so tired. We had a king bed and a sofa bed for the kids. When we opened the sofa bed, there was no cover, nothing, just a mattress. So we called housekeeping, no one answered. I went to see the lobby; they told me to go see the concierge. I went and he told me he would send someone. He opened a ticket on his computer. I believed him and went back to the room. After 30 minutes, I called back because the kids wanted to sleep and no one showed up. I called again, the concierge did not answer. Then I went back to see him. I saw 6 other people in line with the same issue. After another 30-minute waiting time, my turn arrived. I re-explained nicely and he said he would request a second time, “don’t worry.” Again, I believed him.

Then I went back to my room and on my way I saw the housekeeping room open. I went and took a cover bed and ended up doing the sofa bed myself. The next day I complained; nothing happened. All they said was sorry.
