We were on the first floor with the pool outside our door. The pool isn’t heated and it was too cold to go in. The room itself was not cleaned well before we entered. There were brown drip marks on the ground, the sink drain was misplaced, the shower was an open shower and every time we showered the entire bathroom floor would be covered in water, there was splatter marks on the walls, the lamps had broken twine on top, and the lights only worked half the time.

The hotel is under construction and many of the amenities are not open. The staff are very hopeful and friendly, but it is disappointing that most of the bars are closed. Also the menu at the restaurant is outrageously expensive, and the free breakfast is pretty pathetic. I would rather be given a reasonably priced menu and just order my breakfast every day.

I travelled solo and stayed for 6 days. I don't know what some of these reviews are aiming for. Yes sometimes there is a smell, but have you not been anywhere else in Mexico? Even the plush reports smell sometimes, a lot of people be pooping in Mexico. It was very mellow and private, not cookie cutter. Safe. Easy to navigate. The \"beach\" area doesn't bode well for swimming but it is a great and cool boho spot. It's easy to get around to other beaches for swimming. I recommend a swim up room. The beds were comfy, my internet worked fine and my hot water was usually hot. Helpful and delightful staff.

Akuazul, overall, is a beautiful, clean place. The decor is unbelievably beautiful. Although it is not waterfront, as in you can’t swim bc there is a mangrove between the hotel and the water, the view is amazing. The place is so quiet and serene. The restaurant staff was attentive and friendly and the food was delicious!! Front desk staff was friendly and courteous, helping to book transportation or excursions. The only negative was the need for some renovation. I had read that in the reviews. Nothing is so horrible that it ruined my stay but there are many small things that need to be fixed, repaired or updated. The rooftop pool itself was great but the deck around it needs help. And one suggestion- replace the safety enclosure around the roof top with glass panels. Better for the view as well as blocking the wind- I almost blew away as it was extremely windy my last day. All in all, loved it and would definitely return!!

Rooms are really dated-no place to put your clothes-not enough hangers-food was super expensive -service was Bad. Super slow to get anything -food service was the absolute worst.
No Beach you can swim in.
Pool up top is falling apart. We were picking up tiles.
Road can be noisy trying to sleep.
Bathroom counter falling off so my products kept rolling off.
Pool was freezing. Our room was next to pool bar and the music was super loud-we had to ask them to turn it down.

The room smelled of urine. The entire hotel complex was in disrepair boards missing wire exposed dangerous. There was no water provided or available unless you paid over $1.50 usd for a tiny bottle. Water is a basic necessity come on. The breakfast also very cheap. No coffee pot in room no chairs on balcony as pictured. And did I mention the smell!!
Very upset with hotels claiming an 8 score does not deserve more than a 1or 2 at best. Whoever owns this is a slum lord. Really terrible.

The atmosphere and room were great. So were the staff. This hotel is 5 mins away from the public beach and 10 to the hotel zone, both by car. There is nothing, not even a store, within walking distance. We stayed for 5 days and our room was only cleaned once (and that was after back and forth with the front desk. Breakfast consists of fruit and one piece of toast OR one piece of French toast OR one pancake. Not a lot.

I ask the staff for spwcial decoration for the room upon arrival to hotel and it wasnt done, then transportation wasnt ready to pick me up at the airport, and every time they cleaned the room they took the toals with out leaving any new ones, and every time this issues were brough up to the hotel they acted like nothing was wrong

This property is truly beautiful. The design and overall vibe are stunning, and the private beach area is absolutely gorgeous — peaceful and one of the highlights of our stay. You can tell there was a strong vision behind the space.
Unfortunately, there is a noticeable lack of maintenance and attention to safety. There are exposed wires and multiple areas blocked off with caution tape (see photos). The rooftop pool area did not feel secure or properly maintained. These are real safety concerns, not minor cosmetic issues.
Transportation upon arrival was frustrating. I scheduled a pickup in advance and waited 30 minutes with no communication. I had emailed asking how to identify the driver and was told someone would be holding a sign. That was not the case, which made arrival stressful. When I expressed concern, the manager responded by saying he didn’t understand why I was upset and that I “should be happy.” That felt dismissive and unprofessional.
Additional issues: the pool is not heated, staff did not speak English which made communication difficult, the hotel is next to a busy street with constant traffic noise, and there were mosquitoes in the bathroom.
Beautiful property, but it needs better maintenance, safety oversight, and guest service to match its potential.

We gave them 24 hours notice that we needed to leave 2 days early and they said they would refund the extra 2 days, but we still have not received any refund.

Hotel room was neglected, with unchanged sheets and un-restocked amenities. Daily house keeping reduction is normal especially after COVID but not changing the sheets at least once during a 5 day stay is outrageous! The Hotel appears to be under maintenance but not the regular maintenance that comes to mimd, Like the cover up mildew with paint maintenance. Security is a joke literally entered the resort while security was asleep “on duty”! Sewer Issue as well which appeared they were aware of and left and terrible smell all throughout.
Pool looks gross. Main light in room didnt work as well as bird crap on window curtains upon arrival.

The hotel had fantastic decor which included sculptures, beautiful handmade items and imaginative furniture. Walking through the hotel and the hotel’s beach area at night was a colorful, enchanting experience. The room was clean with a nice balcony overlooking a beautiful sea view. It was clean, with a great shower, nice soaps and shampoo, with an excellent coffee machine. It was a little noisy during the day because outside traffic was audible. Hotel is a little far from stores so a Uber is necessary to get around without a personal car. The staff was great, helpful, and when my girlfriend needed an iron they were quick to supply one for her. The restaurant was excellent, with a nice selection of excellent quality, reasonably priced food. For breakfast my girlfriend and I liked sitting outside on the balcony overlooking the swimming pool to enjoy the cool breeze. We would definitely like to come back to this hotel.

Everything was pretty good except for two things:
- Road noise from the cars passing by at 40 mph, 20 ft. from the room
- The crocodiles in the mangrove swamp kind of make the beach 'iffy'. We never saw any (and were told they only come out at night, and don't come near the beach) but...

The place has nice folks, very interesting architecture and features. It is a bit run down and, I believe, they are trying to restore it. It is also close to the airport (but noise was not an issue).

Amenities were all closed, No roof top Pool, private beach was dirty , All wooden walkaway were falling apart, Broken ceramic tiles through out the hotel, which were covered with floor mats . The staff didn't care. Shut off water. The the wayer turned on after i complained. Then hour later to take a show no hot water. Had to bag for towels. Construction going on next door. Tiles on the floor broken on the way to the elevator (red flag)Not a vacation. Left after the 2nd night on a 4 night stay. Look at the roof top bar and pool. Only a pool and all construction Early check out Expedia needs to refound like promised. Found and really nice place on the island.

This was an amazing stay. Surprisingly so I seem to be one of only about five or six guests. For it to be a spacious resort I was very shocked of that, but maybe it was an off-season for them. From the hospitality, the staff, the location, the transportation services at the front desk that you could add, the swim up sweet pool, the restaurants in the food I give this place five stars! I’m surprised they were not booked to capacity and that it was so inexpensive. I would return! I also was a solo female African-American traveler & I felt safe.

This resort was misrepresented on Expedia. It was advertised as a well-maintained adults-only resort, but the actual condition was neglected, dirty, and poorly maintained. The room and common areas were visibly filthy, with clear signs of lack of proper cleaning and upkeep. This was not a minor issue but a serious cleanliness and maintenance problem that affected comfort and health standards. Based on the listing, we expected a quality resort experience, and what we received was completely inconsistent with the description and photos. This stay did not meet basic hospitality standards and constitutes false advertising.

Had a decent stay at this property. The pictures don’t accurately reflect the current condition of the property, which seems to be a common issue in Mexico. At one point, this property looked like a fantastic place to stay, but it’s deteriorated. There are a few walkways/outdoor bars/artworks/cabanas around the property’s beach, but it doesn’t seem like they were adequately maintained. The room itself was clean and the AC worked. The balconies are lined in bamboo, which made creaking/cracking sounds when the sunlight shined directly on them. The hotel is located right on a stretch of the main road - we were woken up a couple of times in the middle of the night from motorcycles racing up and down the road, so couldn’t even get a full nights rest. The best part of the hotel is the view; the worst part of the hotel is the restaurant, the food was extremely overpriced and wasn’t great. Overall, for what they charge, it’s just not worth it; I will not be staying here in the future.

Good staff, the area is not quiet since it is at the roadside and the rooms are not sound proof. They dont have a variety of food to choose from. My biggest setback was transportation, they dont have enough space for parking or pick up. The tours which I had booked i had to be picked and dropped off at the Residence Inn, I was very frustrated especially if i was dropped off at night.

It’s right off the side of the road so it’s extremely noisy from car traffic and they were still working on renovations so there was that added noise as well. Other than that the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They especially took precautions for my safety as a solo traveling woman. The room and hotel is beautiful. I had breakfast and dinner once and both were good as well as the drinks. I did have a bit of trouble with the AC in my room not turning off. Overall it’s a good space to stay if you want a more secluded spot a bit away from the bigger resorts in the hotel zone and don’t mind a less social environment.

The hotel photos are not reality. There was a swamp not a beachfront mosquitos where horrible. Hoyle is run down and even had caution tape in some areas.
The rooms were cheaply constructed and the breakfast wasn’t free you have to pay for it. The food was good and the staff was nice but not a relaxing stay. Also had to get cans but uber actually works which is then best bet it renting a car

The resort itself is a great spot for couples who prefer some time away from the party scene and are into taking some sweet pictures — hands down — the architecture of this resort stood out from all the others! Breakfast was reasonable, but just fruits. Swimming pools were nice, but didn’t go in myself. Room was 8/10 clean and balcony with partial ocean view was actually nicer than I thought, plus you can go to the rooftop pool at anytime for the panoramic ocean view!

However, the resort at times had a slight smell that eventually goes away. At night motorcyclists speeding by the property at times kept us up (so make sure to close the second set of doors in your suite).

Overall, 8.2/10 stay given the reasonable prices during Xmas season. Thank you Akuazul!

The complementary breakfast was fruit and choice of bread. On New Year’s Eve it was dead - I barely saw only on property and when I did they were complaining it was dead/ run down & goes elsewhere. These were not untrue facts. Jose, at the bar was amazing. I was on 4th floor and might have been the only one. View from balcony was beautiful- rooftop pool deck needs fixing. Beach access isn’t great. Much work needs to be done. Food is way overpriced - unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend people go. I was only there one night and I’m not sure how anyone could stay here more than a night. I never leave negative reviews but people do need to know - the photos of pool look current but nothing else.

Clean room but the room service was very sporadic. They missed one day for no reason. Had to request specifically. All the staff were quite aggressive and in your face about tips so i think it could've been due to that.

Annoying when trying to do hotel transfer, I was quoted a USD price, but at checkout i was being charged a peso converted price.

The prices at the restaurant and the portions made me depressed. You're for sure gonna be leaving the property for food. The property itself is very pretty and night time guys were very friendly at the desk. I liked you could chat with them via WhatsApp for front desk.

I had a walk out pool upgrade which was also nice, but my poarch light was so dim it was useless at night whenever I'd be going for swims.

Uber from there to get to places as it's a better option. Some of the tour pickups though it was a little out of their range but the Marriott nearby was a 10 min walk for pick up.

Akuazul Adults Only Resort is a really nice hotel with so much potential. When I stayed, it was under some construction, but you can already see how beautiful it’s going to be once everything is complete, this place should be looking incredible by 2026.

The resort has a very unique style that sets it apart from more traditional hotels. My favourite places to hang out were the beach area, with all the funky outdoor furniture, and the rooftop glass pool, which was such a cool and memorable experience.

The beach is on the smaller side, but that actually makes it feel very private and peaceful. There’s lots of creative wicker-style furniture made of sticks, including swings and multiple lounging areas that make it easy to relax and soak up the sun.

A special shoutout to Jose! He was an exceptional waiter and truly went above and beyond. He would serve you no matter where you were on the property, always with a great attitude.

Food and drink prices were very reasonable for a resort. Overall, Akuazul already has a great vibe, and once renovations are complete, it’s going to be something really special.

The hotel is being rehab so some areas are a little run down and people are working on restoring them. The hotel is really close to the street so you can hear the noise from the cars driving by all day and night long specially from the swim out rooms. On site beverage options are really limited. Otherwise you can tell property has good potential once they finish all the restoring.

Clarifying point: it does not have access to the beach. It has some lounge chairs on top of the sand but no access to the beach.

Overall our stay was great but had mixed reviews: The bad: as we’re walking around the grounds needs upkeep pretty bad. Some trash and some areas closed. The room views were beautiful but bathroom small and there was no water for like 30 mins. The good: the hotel is beautiful! Very visually appealing- very unique! The staff was very friendly and sweet and helpful. The restaurant food was real good! Restaurant staff treated us very well! Rooftop pool was very nice with amazing views. Overall was mixed between 3-4 stars! Would stay again for sure!

The place is a gem that needs some polishing but totally worth the visit, if you are not looking for the party day and night vibe. The personal and warm attention from the staff is just like a high end hotel, Angel running the staff professionally, Mrs. Blanca warm and attentive, Antonio great personality and always willing to go above and beyond to make the guests comfortable and throwing a couple of twenty ones while getting to know them as Jose and Samuel get the drinks going made it a great experience. Yes you are away from la zona hotelera but if you want some peace and quiet and a little piece of paradise in the making, check this place out. A couple of recommendations for management, get the repairs that obviously you are completing done, change the material on the outdoor chairs and stools and it will make a difference for those guests that are more critical. For the guests, one thing you should consider at this time there is some road noise which if you take a pool side room is less noticeable due to some upgrades the hotel has already made, good for them. I will be back.
