We stayed over a weekend with family and were disappointed. This place could use a renovation. Our room wasn't ready, even when arriving after 5pm! The room was slightly smelly, warm water not always warm, air conditioning barely working, windows screwed shut. Stay away!

This hotel used to be nice. It is now overrated and overpriced. The location is great but the rooms and furniture are less than what you would expect.
The valet parking was not well received and you can’t charge the cost if the valet to the room.
It’s a pass for me next time. No thank you!!

When we received our room there was no hot water. We informed staff and within 30 minutes told them the room was unacceptable. They were unable to correct the issue. We \"checked out\" and went to another hotel. Renaissance said they would tell Expdia to give us a full refund but refused to give us any written statement of the condition. They have apparently not answered inquiry calls from Expedia. Expedia has not provided our money back.
The Renaissance pool has also been permanently closed which is not reflected on their website.

We arrived late in the evening and got a room with no heat. We didn’t get a new room till the next day early afternoon. We waited and waited to move rooms. The second room had hardly any hot water. We were told” that’s probably because lots of people are taking showers now”! Seriously! The staff was rude and very uninterested in helping resolve both issues. Food was awful in the restaurant. There was no manager of the premises all weekend. This is not what we’d expect from a Marriott.

The room was clean and situated in a convenient location. A lot of the historical sites are walking distance. Those that are farther, no problem, the metro is very near and well the rest is being able to fit time in order to do all the activities that you want.

Joe at the front desk was amazing for our check in, we had a terrible experience at an air bnb and needed a room ASAP with early check in and he got us in with no questions asked. The hotel was clean and comfortable and the entire stay was over the top. 10/10 cannot recommend enough.

Overall really bad. I checked in. First the main elevator was not working so i had to use the staff elevator. That’s fine.. no big deal. But i get up to the room, and there is no bathroom door and the bathtub/shower does not drain, the room smells really bad and the air conditioner is really loud. I asked for a new room, and they give me one. When I get into the new room, the bed was not made and it looked like someone had slept in it and it was not cleaned. So I ask for a new room. Finally get into the 3rd room, and it’s not so bad, still smells, but whatever I can deal with that.. go to take a shower and the water does not get hot.. stays at most slightly warm.. after a long day traveling. That’s just the worst feeling. At this point I am too tired to ask for a new room. overall just a really bad hotel. Not clean, smells and just not a nice environment. Bad experience.. I never do reviews… but I really had to make this review to indicate how bad this hotel.

Disappointing stay with this well known brand. Elevators smelt of urine, room smelt of weed. Location is very good. Manager was sympathetic with our complaints and handled the matter to our satisfaction in the end. Unfortunately I would not stay here again

I checked my girlfriend and my mother into the hotel, and the woman at the front desk was clearly on some kind of narcotic; I've never seen someone be so violent with a computer keyboard or speak so quickly. She was rude and condescending to both my mother and girlfriend.

My mother's hotel room had a couch in it that was very obviously covered in semen stains that hadn't been cleaned; we're talking \"still crusted on\". We had her moved to another room, and it was even worse; there were semen stains on the couch in the new room, the curtains, and a very obvious imprint on the window from where someone was pressed up against it, no doubt in some kind of intimate position.

My girlfriend and I shared a room separate from my mother, and I had to personally repair the toilet and the sink drainage. I suppose I should be grateful I didn't have semen stains in our room... that we could see.

No internet no breakfast unless you pay extra.

For the amount you pay per night they should at least offer free internet. It is reminiscent of that show Green Acres when Mr. Haney sells Oliver Douglass a tractor then says, \"Now that you have the tractor how about buying the tires that go with it?\". Internet is now something you need in every day life so to have to pay extra for it during a hotel stay I find to be intolerable.

The property was not up to the standard that I’d expect. The room was large, but some of the wood panelling was missing in the room. Additionally, the air conditioning was incredibly loud. A minor point was the layout as you enter the hotel, everyone seemed to have the same issue of not really knowing where to check-in. A big disappointment was the permanent swimming pool closure. No one warned me of that and it was one of the reasons for booking.

Very convenient area, close to major attractions, dining, shopping. Very walkable to most areas.
Staff were incredible.
Hotel could use a good scrub. My main complaint was the fact that I booked this specific hotel for the indoor pool for our 9yr old. The pool was disgusting. Strange skim on the surface of the water and it was cold. So pool was a no go. Would I go back to this hotel, yes, if it was only me and my husband. Not a great hotel if you’re traveling with kids(we needed a rollaway bed and they never had one available) we made it work with the chase lounge and a bunch of extra bedding, but definitely wasn’t the plan. Plan to eat somewhere else than the restaurant in the hotel. No kids menu. The only thing we could find for her to eat was the lobster Mac n cheese-minus the lobster though we were still charged full price as if it had the lobster. I told my kid, I hope you enjoy your $25 Mac n cheese. Just some things to consider. It’s just not a kid friendly hotel, but you’d most likely be happy there with adults only.

I've been unable to use my room for going on 6 hours. It was 75 degrees at check in and was so hot i had to leave. I notified the hotel and was told it would be fixed. I called again to say I'm just going to go to dinner and asked if after they changed the battery they could just check in to make sure it was working. I came back ave the room was 72 degrees. I called again and have been waiting on maintenance over 30 minutes. I even talked to the supervisor who said they send someone immediately, i called again and they don't know where he is or what to do. So I'm stuck in a hot room I've expressed multiple times is making me sick from the heat only to be ignored. I will never stay here again and I'll let everyone who will listen on every platform know what I've experienced. Absolutely and completely disgusting the way I've been treated at this location

Pool is old and needs to be replaced or at least fixed. Women's dressing room is a mess largely from water damage. Dining and bar area felt kind of makeshift. Only one crappy coffee pod for the room, no coffee available elsewhere except for sit down, expensive restaurant. And just drip coffee. The artwork is dumb: it just says \"this is art.\" Elevator doors have historic photo that looked to me like a prison door. \"Front desk\" is not in the front. But the room was huge and the surfaces, sheets, and towels clean.

Property is nice. Rooms are nice. View is nice. Area is historic. Everything was good except two things. 1) the parking deck that they have available is only 6’4”. So if you have a truck, you won’t fit. Wish that was in the description somewhere telling me that. 2) there was no hot water in my room. Went to take a shower in the morning, the water never warmed up. Not even remotely close to be like warm. Other than that, really liked the hotel. Just a shame I have to give it the rating I am.

Look elsewhere, good location, but that's it

There was buildup of shampoo on the shower floor. The kind that would only happen if the room is rarely cleaned well. The toilet stopped working once and, even after 'fixed', it was still in poor condition. One of two elevators was out during our stay. The indoor pool was freezing cold and not clean. The service in the restaurant was atrocious. There was nobody there and I still couldn't get service. My wife asked for hot water for tea, was given some kind of hot brown water. After we asked what it was, the waitress said she was sorry and didn't know how to work the machine. Ok, but why not just say that instead of handing my wife whatever the hell came out of the machine without a word until we said something? The location is very good, but the hotel failed to deliver what was advertised on virtually every other level.

Walls were paper thin and could hear everything. No storage in the room. Only one drawer and no other place to put clothes. Overall disappointing experience.

Room looked worn. No drawers for clothes. Tiny closet. No place to put luggage except on the floor unless you only have a backpack or small carryon bag. Not really handicapped accessible in bathroom. Only one hook in bathroom- no place to hang robe/ towels.

Great bedding and pillows. Bed very comfortable. Had breakfast one morning in restaurant there. Food was good, waitstaff very friendly.

Location good but would stay somewhere else next time.

Room was spacious and staff was phenomenal. The mattresses are very firm. Not a big problem but for the folks out there that want some plush comforts the bed isn’t going to supply that.

One issue outside of the control of the hotel is the consistent racing every night from 10-11pm. You’ll hear it two or three times. Just enough to wake you up.

My major issue was the major smell of marijuana smell on my floor. I know housekeeping smelled it when they cleaned the room. Felt like they would have informed management. Having that smell hit you when you are “coming home” every evening on vacation is not pleasant.

Location of this hotel to old city history is perfect. For sporting events and bigger scale Philly exploration this isn’t the place for you. Please enforce the no smoking policy.

We had a great stay at the Renaissance. We came for a concert. We felt like the location was great. Easily accessible to restaurants , coffee etc. Our room was clean and had all the necessities to make our stay comfortable. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful.

THEN- we went to our room. Room 503. Smelled awful. 1/4 of the carpet was soaked. They sent someone up. They said air conditioner leaked. Only room with 2 queen beds so we were stuck. Couldn’t walk around soaked carpet. And the smell was awful!!! Felt so dirty. Disappointed

The Renaissance Philadelphia has so much potential, but needs some more attention from parent company, Marriot. The positives…great location by Independence Hall and Olde City; and large spacious rooms.

Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. The hotel strangely feels like it’s abandoned, the energy feels off. The lobby/bar/restaurant space is so large and impressive, but again doesn’t live up to potential. There is a lack of hotel personnel and no one seems happy to work there. Maybe some lovely music would create better energy and more buzz. The night I was there, they had a singer performing but no one was there to watch. I think some more Marketing and PR would be beneficial. The hotel was fine, but could just be so much more with a little TLC. This review is not about bashing The Renaissance, just a recommendation that a little revamp would go a long way!

Total lack of service

The room was to have two beds for two gentlemen to share. The room only had one bed which was not appropriate. The reservation staff did not try to resolve the problem. They said there was no two bed room available for the entire stay yet I could go on line direct and book a 2 bed room for IN: 31st May OUT: 3 June. Our clients are part of our VIP list and the service was NOT acceptable. We will not be using this hotel again in the future.

Property was pretty expensive, especially what wasn't included in the price - Wi-Fi being one of them. Staff were friendly, but didn't go over the basic details about the property like where you can find the gym, how to access Wi-Fi, etc. Rooms are very dimly lit, and there is no main light switch, which is very inconvenient. You have to manually turn on every light you want to use. My room smelled like mothballs. I tried to ignore the smell, but when the tub in my bathroom wouldn't drain, that's when I felt compelled to say something. They kindly switched me to a new room that smelled a bit better and for the inconvenience they gave me a drink and breakfast voucher. The surrounding area was fine - things close earlier than I am used to coming from NY. For the price, i wouldnt recommend

Room was large and comfortable. The location is fantastic for seeing the historical sites of Philadelphia. Rooms are priced on the higher end and valet can be used for about $50 per day including tax. Tip is extra but they are friendly and will load/unload your bags. I would stay here again.

I’m sure everything was state of the art when it was made but it looks like nothing has been updated since then. Don’t get me wrong. The place is nice but the pool definitely needs updated parts of the bottom were cracking enough where you could possibly cut your feet they got rid of the hot tub that it shows online. I can’t speak for in between guests, but when we put the cleaning request placard on the door, none of the bedding was changed.
