The hotel was under construction and although the construction crew finished at 5pm, the concrete plates on the street were constantly being driven over at night and it was so loud.
The hotel was charming, the little happy hour with small treats and beverage at 5pm was lovely. The breakfast was so thoughtful and charming.

Clean, well-decorated room and a nice breakfast experience. I found the room to be quiet, even though there was construction underway right across the street. Walking distance to downtown SLO. My only complaint is that it’s on a relatively busy corner and it can be a slight nuisance getting in and out of the parking lot. That was a minor issue though, and the experience overall was amazing!

Such a great property in such agreat part of SLO. All of the staff that I interacted with from the front desk to dining were 10/10 friendly and incredibly helpful every time. Breakfast was super tasty, man did those croissants smell good every morning! The in-room wifi was a little bit more on the frustratingly slow side of things but I’d still definitely stay at Petite again in the future.

This inn is super charming and the staff were great. I loved the breakfast and happy hour that was included in the rate. Its on the edge of the cute downtown area so it was easily walkable for us. The only issue for us was that the guests above us were really loud. The inn is an old motel (with outdoor access to each room) so I don't think there's much soundproofing between floors. It sounded like the people upstairs were auditioning for River Dance. I know they were probably just walking normally but it was incredibly loud. I would recommend asking for a second floor room because of this issue.

In pictures the property looks very nice and clean, but in reality it's a whole mess. The parking is terrible; it's so small, and trying to get in and out is probably one of the worst experiences I had there. If you compare the price to what you are actually getting, this place sucks. They gave me a physical key for the room, and good luck trying to open the damn door; it's so inconvenient. Everything just felt so jammed together; I felt like I was in a tin can. If you want to stay here, don't and spend your money elsewhere!

What a Jim of A. find period located just close enough to downtown to be in walking distance and super convenient in every way. Parking right in the front and the rooms were nice and clean and the staff very welcoming. The X factor was the 5 PM at Arif with a glass of rosé if you like and charcuterie. Free mind you. I opted for a $12 Manhattan that they curate themselves with an in-house recipe. Served with a big block of Ice with the Company logo petite Soleil and a slice of orange. It was the best Manhattan I’ve had in my travels in California for the past two weeks at many of the most high-end restaurants that you can find. Truly impressive. The breakfast was amazing as well and I had the quiche which is also included in your room stay. Definitely nice to see hospitality at this level. Very hard to find. We will be back.

The ambiance was delightful. It was so lovely staying in a hotel/inn that had charm rather than the usual sterility of a chain hotel. It was quiet and parking was included along with a very nice afternoon wine/cheese gathering and an excellent breakfast. Highly recommended.

I chose this property from comments made about the staff in previous reviews. The fact that I had not been in SLO in 26 years made me somewhat apprehensive about the town and not knowing about the area. My wife and I stayed for 5 days and had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely helpful in restaurant recommendations and provided exceptional service. Complimentary breakfast was absolutely outstanding. All the guests we met made similar comments. Even the \"happy hour\" (again complimentary), added a wonderful chance to meet other guests and socialize. Although the facility was smaller, it was totally adequate. Good parking with a wonderful European flare. Again the staff made the already great experience even better. ALL staff worked very hard to make our stay the best. Their consistent wonderful attitude made the difference and is rare in today's society. On multiple occasions, one of the staff could even be heard singing softly as she worked...

We’ve been doing a road trip of California and SLO/Petit Soleil has been our absolute favourite place so far. From the amazing staff to the gorgeous hotel/rooms, we couldn’t fault it. WE were in the Van Gogh room - It was wonderful. The wallpaper was his lilies. The staff was great. We got there at 8:30 and were leaving at 5:15 the next morning. The receptionist made us china bowls of Greek Yogurt with fresh fruit and granola and BROUGHT IT UP TO OUR ROOM. We put it in the refrigerator and had a treat before we left for our train. She also arranged our UBer. I would come back in a minute.

We stayed one night in beautiful SLO and found this gem of an inn. Such a warm welcome by the staff and although we had to miss breakfast due to an early start, we did enjoy the welcome drink and charcuterie platter. I unfortunately left something in my room and they called immediately to work out how to get it back to me! Would love to stay there again for a few nights to fully explore the area and to try their restaurant. We walked downtown from the hotel and it was an easy 15 min stroll.

The hotel is quaint. The room was spacious and the bathroom was updated and very nice. My quibble is that the heater in the room did not work at all so I was very cold. The front desk is only manned from 6:00 a.m - 12:00 a.m. and I didn't arrive until 12:30 a.m. so there was no one to address my concerns about the heat (although I'm not sure they could have fixed it that night anyway). When I mentioned the issue to the desk clerk when I checked out, he showed very little concern about it.

Amazing experience from start to finish. When I checked in they were hand rolling pie dough, the room was modern and cozy, and while I didn't get to have breakfast, the croissants I grabbed on my way out were amazing!

Friendly staff at all times of the day. A beautiful, unique gem.
I absolutely loved the bed, linens and towels as they were very luxurious

All was beautiful for a last minute overnight. Staff fantastic. Only alert is that I was on the ground floor… away from street and construction but the occupants above me could be heard clearly walking across room. Woke me up both at night around 11-12 pm then again at 5:00-6 am. Not super good insulation. Otherwise a fantastic place to stay- lone the room and area. Would love coffee pot in room!

Cute and staff is very friendly. Ample hotel parking and they've recently remodeled in the last couple of years.
Rooms have easy access for outlets, you can get water from the front desk, chill in the courtyard, and the morning breakfast was amazing. Will be looking to stay here again. The rooms were very well-designed and comfortable bedding.

Petit Soleil is an absolute ten star gem in San Luis Obispo. From the moment I arrived, the staff made me feel genuinely welcomed, and I was delighted to receive a thoughtful room upgrade. This is a beautiful little boutique hotel, close enough to downtown SLO. Loved everything.
Only one small fault: breakfast was included and super yummy, expect for the coffee: bitter and too acidic. My suggestion: upgrade to Bulletproof Coffee! Thank you!

This stay was such a fine. Go!! It was precious. The decor was so sweet. All newly renovated. Clean. Lots of places to sit and have a drink or work or eat breakfast. Breakfast……it was delicious! You order from a menu and it’s included in the price of your room. Delicious coffee. I can’t say enough about this place! The stuff was top shelf!!!

We loved our stay at Petit Soleil in San Luis Obispo. This quaint boutique hotel is full of charm and warmth. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they took excellent care of us throughout our visit.

Our room was spotless, cozy, and tastefully decorated—perfect for a relaxing getaway. The daily breakfast was absolutely delicious, with fresh, thoughtfully prepared offerings that far exceeded the typical hotel breakfast. The included Aperitif hour in the afternoon was such a lovely touch—great wine, small bites, and a chance to unwind in the charming courtyard.

The location is fantastic—within easy walking distance to some of SLO’s best restaurants and shops, yet tucked away just enough to feel peaceful and quiet at night.

We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in SLO. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a warm, welcoming, and memorable experience!

Honestly the best hotel stay we’ve had. The staff was so welcoming and the hotel is very cozy. The bed was so comfortable and a nice clean bathroom. There’s hors d’oeuvres a drink and an excellent breakfast all included and free parking which made the stay extra special. We will 100% come back to stay.

We have visited often to SLO over the past 4-5 years and this is a gem compared to many other options. This was first time at Petit Soleil and it will not be our last!

Absolutely Wonderful Stay!
From start to finish, this hotel exceeded all expectations. The included breakfast was amazing—delicious, fresh, and a perfect way to start each day. We also loved the evening snacks and wine hour from 5–6pm, which added such a special touch.

The staff truly made the experience unforgettable. Everyone we interacted with was incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming. A huge thank you to Ellie, Dante, and Julianne—you made us feel right at home.

Our room was outstanding. The bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable, and the bathroom products were top-notch—honestly, the best lotion I’ve ever used.

Can’t wait to return. Highly recommended!

We had an overall good stay, and the staff was friendly, but for the price point, we expected better value. The room felt a bit outdated (e.g., a leaking toilet) and lacked some basic amenities like a tea kettle or coffee machine, which are usually standard at this level. Additionally, noise from the room above—especially footsteps—was surprisingly noticeable and disrupted the quiet we were hoping for. The hotel has potential, but a few upgrades and more attention to detail would go a long way in justifying the rate compared to other options in the area.

Loved this place! Super convenient/walking distance to downtown, super easy check in and out, fairly priced, super friendly/helpful staff, and just really cute! Love the boutique vibe. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres/drink hour each evening & breakfast each morning was a bonus. They also allow pets which is awesome! Will definitely stay here again when we’re back in SLO!!
