The property is old and probably has not had an upgrade in a long time. Our room (Old Town) was disjointed (sink outside of the bathroom and the tub was cicra 1980 with four shower curtains). I took a shower and the water never got hot. Breakfast was fair. Parking was not optimal meaning we parked in the bank lot next door but needed to move the car before 8am so we would not get a ticket. The bed was small. We are spoiled by a king bed. This bed was 'queen', but felt more like a full. But the worst part was the noise during the night. We did not sleep at all. :( Street sweepers, trash trucks, loud cars.

The hotel provides great breakfast which is satified and healthy. I skiped it on the first day but immidaitely regret when I tried it on the 2nd day.
Be aware the noisy at night, the hotel is near a bank parking lot which could be noisy at night. That's the only downside for me to stay here.

Outstanding facility with comfortable and quiet rooms. Parking is inconvenient with only one loading zone spot and a few blocks’ walk to either a paid parking garage or on-street free parking if you can find a spot. Breakfast was terrific. Hosts were gracious and helpful. Location is convenient walking distance to all of downtown. Will definitely stay again.

We stayed in the Walden room. Everything was great, except for bed. I think it’s time to replace mattress. Mattress was lumpy, and creaky. Very uncomfortable.

Our experience at Garden Street Inn was exceptional. Situated downtown, it offers easy access to numerous restaurants. The included made-to-order breakfast was excellent. Other guests were quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel lacks its own parking lot, but there is a free loading/unloading zone in front, along with nearby free street parking and a pay parking garage. If parking isn't a concern, I highly recommend staying here. I wish all hotels treated their guests this well!

The only comment I would make is that the mirror above the sink is set up for someone 5'3\", not anyone around 6'. Otherwise the place has old world charm only a block from the downtown.

Cute building, nice rooms, comfy bed. Liked the outdoor seating options as well as the tasty breakfast. It’s a convenient location in downtown that lets you walk everywhere. But also a bit pricey for everything you get - I chalk it up to location & convenience. Overall great stay & would consider staying again when doing things in downtown SLO.

I shared the room with a work friend for a work event. We room together pretty regularly. The room was clean. The functionality of the room was tricky. There was one small mirror above the pedestal sink but it was so high my 5’ friend couldn’t even use it, and it made getting dressed at the same time difficult. They only provided one physical key to the room so we had to plan for who was taking the key, knowing there was a chance one of us would be locked out.
I have stayed in a lot of bed-n-breakfast over the years, with others providing gorgeous breakfast options. This one was super basic. I had breakfast there one morning only. They offered scrambled eggs and toast. The eggs were very hard scrambled and served cold. The toast was two pieces of bread with a slab of butter.

The location also means it’s in the thick of night life for college students. Emerald Isle room is right next to a busy parking lot. Ear plugs were my friend. Late night cars and loud people, early morning trucks and leaf blowers. Upstairs rooms may be quieter.

I booked a stay at the Garden Street Inn last week, and it was such a lovely experience. I took the Amtrak in and arrived a couple of hours before check-in, but they kindly allowed me to check in early, which was incredibly convenient.
The staff was warm, welcoming, and very accommodating throughout my stay. I stayed in the “Ah Louis” room, which was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and featured a large bathtub, which was a great bonus.
I've never been to San Luis Obispo before, and all the rooms being named after a historical place in town was so interesting! There were great historical photos and articles on the walls. I even took a walk to the actual 'Ah Louis' store in town.
The building is a bit older, so you can occasionally hear people in the hallways. That said, all the other guests during my stay were very quiet, and it never felt disruptive. In fact, the only time I noticed how full the inn was during breakfast.
Breakfast was a highlight. I was expecting a standard buffet, but instead they prepare a fresh, made-to-order breakfast, along with pastries and fruit. Everything was delicious. They also offered a complimentary glass of wine at check-in, which I personally passed on, but it was a thoughtful touch.

What a pleasant surprise! Had a beautiful night I. The Inn. The renovated rooms were beautiful. The location was perfect for exploring downtown SLO. The staff were so welcoming and helpful! The only downside was, in my opinion, the breakfast-a little underwhelming, but so appreciated the effort and friendliness of the staff who prepared it.

I’m disabled and there were over 10 stone steps to get to the front door and 23 steps up to the second floor. The charming front desk employee on 2/17 carried by bag up then back down the steps since I had an early morning train before they reopened st 8 am. My room was do cold I couldn’t take a shower . at .

We are regulars to the SLO area, and rarely stay in hotels. Stayed here for a weekend trip for a wedding and it was great! Clean, big rooms. Our room was off the common area, but it was not loud at all. We had a private patio off our room. It's an old building, so don't expect the most modern rooms and amenities. If you're alright with that, I highly recommend staying at Garden Street Inn.

The ground floor room, “The Lovers” is in an extremely awkward room set off from the main sitting room. You can hear every word said out there which means they can hear everything in your room. This is the ADA accessible room, and there is a chair lift, but it is also marketed as one of the more expensive rooms. Don’t be fooled. Also, the folks we were traveling with were offered wine, and we were not. Not sure what that was about. We could also hear the bed sqeaking in the room above us and every extremely loud flush. We’re apartment dwellers not easily cowed by the sounds of humanity, but even we were put off by this experience. You also have to park two blocks away or pay a steep price for city garage parking. Great location, but not worth it.

first of all when we went online, we were looking for a hotel, when we got there it was a bed-and-breakfast, it was a Tuesday and yet we could not check into our room till 4 o’clock because our front desk person just felt like pulling a power trip, we decided not to stay there when we found out we couldn’t even park our car on ground grounds. I have a brand new vehicle. I was not going to put it in a public lot a few blocks away, this place sucks.

Very cute inn. It was old, but well-maintained. The breakfast was ok, but I think it is enough. There are a few coffee shops a block away to get good coffee. The area was safe, convenient and walkable to several shops and restaurants. My only issue is that it takes a while for you to feel the hot water in the shower, it was still a great stay. I would stay there again because of the location.

For the expensive price you pay for this hotel, I would probably pick somewhere else next time. The hotel is super \"cute\" but the bathrooms are very old (—old bathtub). The walls are thin so you can hear neighbor's mumbling, alarm clocks ringing, outside noise, etc. There's no parking, only residential parking a few blocks away. (It's a safe area, but still.) There's no 24/7 front desk service, so during lunch break and past 8pm, guests are on their own (to lock up the actual place. We were the last guest to check in so the attendant left for the day). The arrival wine and cookies were a lovely touch, and the morning assortment was a delight (—pastries, beverages (coffee/orange juice), fruit (kiwi, grapefruit), and made to order poached eggs). The location was definitely the reason why we booked the place, as it was near the hip and happening night life of SLO (while the opposite end of the town, the hotels are much less but dead quiet). Liked it, but I don't think I'd book it again, due to the high price.

Pros: great location, cons, pretty run down, needs updating. we asked for maid service on door, never happened. New towels/cleaned room would have made a difference. Breakfast was a bit average, nothing special.

Absolutely loved this stay! It was quaint, close to everything, and homemade breakfast specials every morning! Would definitely recommend this for anyone exploring SLO for a getaway, or wanting a place that felt safe and comfortable. One block from restaurants, shops, and delicious coffee!

Overall a good place to stay. Great location (though free parking is a few blocks away) and beautiful old building. With that, our room had a separate sink away from the bathroom which was a bit awkward. Our bathroom fan wasn't working & some of the furniture & carpeting was a bit tired. Definite noise from the street but pretty good blackout shades. Lovely cookies & wine in the evening, all day tea/water service, and breakfast in the morning (though the same ingredients showed up a few days in a row in different forms.)

Hotel was cute, clean, and in a great location. However the breakfast service was a bit messy, as orders weren’t kept track of, and the staff would leave dirty plates, utensils, and food from other patrons on the table without cleaning them for a very long time, leaving them next to new diners for almost the entire meal.

There were so many missed opportunities to make the room comfortable here. The mattress was so soft we woke up with back pain (we are not that old), the pillows were awful, the towels were tiny, the mirror over the sink was set too low to see your face (try shaving with no mirror!), and the sink was too small for the chest it was placed in. The only way to get to our room was a flight of steep stairs - carrying luggage, this was not fun.
