I’ve stayed at many motels to save some money while road-tripping, but this was the first time we brought our dog. This means we had to be assigned to a room specifically for pets and while I was doing my normal room inspection I found that there were many hidden areas that were very dirty, either from past pets or messy guests. The sheets were clean that we slept on, but other parts not so much from a large stain to animal hair. The mattress was not comfortable (for us anyway). The bathroom smelled like mildew. There was also a hole in the bathroom wall. I would hope they’d patch that up before guests check in for safety. We chose the Vagabond hoping for a better experience than other affordable motels since it charges a bit more, but we’ve honestly had cleaner experiences at less expensive places…

We arrived at our hotel last night that was supposed to be rated an 8.4. Is was absolutely unbearable and disgusting. Since it was so late at night, we had to stay. We are requesting a full refund. Disgusting chair was ruined with cat scratches, dead bugs on the walls, disgusting walls. There are 1000 10/10 reviews on your site which has to be some kind of scam. The bed awful and lumpy and the pool was filled with concrete. I don’t understand how a single person would say this was above a 5/10.

As soon as we entered the room you could tell the cleanliness and clean smell. I loved that they had shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner in pumping containers attached to the shower wall. Hotel was walking distance to Starbucks, Mc Donald’s and other restaurants. It is very close to the freeway and they share parking lot with Dennys. It is only 5 miles to Avila beach. Love the stay.

This is a great value for price. Staff in the hotel is kind and the rooms are spacious. Having microwave and small fridge is definitely a plus.
I traveled to San Luis Obispo by car, so free parking was a must. There was always a parking space available, even though it was a very busy weekend. It is located just across the street of a supermarket, coffee shop and retail stores. This was also very convenient.

Considering there was an additional charge for rooming our dog(which we would imagine is for cleaning charges), the room was not very well maintained. There was dust on all of the edges, headboards, top of television, etc. spots on all the walls. The reading lights did not work. The refrigerator barely kept things cool. There were long hairs in the bathtub. The coffee machine was filthy. The hairdryer was filled with dust. The only bright side were brand new towels. This stay was less than adequate for the price. We were fooled by the photos on the website. It certainly implied that it was a recent update and well maintained. This is not the case. The room really could use a total makeover. It was extremely stark. We’ll never stay here again.

While we booked here primarily for the additional (3rd) bed and we appreciated the room to spread out, the property & room left A LOT to be desired. The beds were hastily made, the baseboards and floors had not been cleaned well, there were gross marks on the wall in the bathroom, and the general smell of the room was… unpleasant. After a long driving day, we checked in late & knew we would be leaving early so trying to find another accommodation was not a worthwhile option so we dealt with it, but this is definitely not a property we would recommend if substantial improvements aren’t made.

First time I came here a year ago was great, but I visited again this time maybe I got a bad room? No screen on the window to the bathroom, so zero privacy with the window open and anything can get in. I HAD to open the window because there was a terrible smell coming from the drains. Made my whole room smell. Overall was moderately clean with some dings here and there. My room was also on the bottom right next to the housekeeping supply room, so it was very noisy. Walls are a bit thin. Maybe I just needed room on the top floor? Will give it another shot because the first time I had an excellent experience and I was on the top floor

It's a very basic motel type of situation on a main road. The pool has been filled with concrete. They charge an additional fee for pets, which always annoys me.

No breakfast, no perks of any kind. Rooms are basic. It's about 20 minutes walk to downtown. I'd probably stay somewhere closer to downtown next time, but if you're looking for something cheap (and you don't have a pet), it's suitable.

Note, if you are getting in late, be sure to call ahead and they will text you after hours pickup instructions. But that worked flawlessly. Room was clean, sparse, but had everything you need for either a night or a few days. Bathroom was functional, AC was cool, even has a refrigerator/microwave combo. Very close to town. It is not a four seasons by any means, but a clean place to sleep. 100% would stay here again.

We booked two rooms based on the picture from Expedia that showed the motel had a pool. When we arrived with six children that were excited to go swimming. There was no pool only to find that it was filled in with concrete and the Expedia website had not been updated. The manager was rude said they updated the verbiage and admitted that the picture had not been updated. I requested a cancellation of both of our rooms and a refund he denied it. He denied it through Expedia and now I’m having to dispute it with my credit card 10 out of 10 I do not recommend them. ! All of the motels in the area were sold out due to the car show in Pismo so I know he re-rented the rooms and is still trying to charge me rude and greedy. That’s how I would describe that motel.

The hotel room was not the cleanest. There was a random sock left in the shower, which makes us wonder if they cleaned the bathroom properly at all. Second, there was a damp stain on the bedsheet. Third, there were stains on the wall - it looked like dried blood.

It was fine. There’s nothing to really say about this place as it is a place that has nothing that sticks out in a super negative or positive way.
The walls are thin, it’s like your neighbors are in the same room, you can and I did hear a burp through the walls.
The overall smell of the room, linens, and space went from bleach upon check in to a bit stagnant and mildew like.
I’m pretty sure my room had a pet previously in it. It had that pet smell under cleaner odor to it.
There appears to be no real front desk person on duty outside of check-in.
The photos are true to form except the reins are dark and dank. Not quite as shiny and new as the photos appear.
Good location near bus lines to get you downtown in under 15min and the cleaners offered to assist with my bags upon check out.
No bed bugs and the bed was comfortable enough.
Overall good if you only need a place to rest your head and or naps after going out and exploring.
I most likely wouldn’t book again.

The staff at this hotel, especially the two people that managed this properly have always made my day feel better. They’re warm and extremely nice people who seem to enjoy what they do. They’re very personable and helpful. I’ve actually had a couple issues that they have solved very quickly. The property is in decent shape. It’s in a convenient location right next to the highway and there’s grocery shopping as well as other stores. They’re very convenient if you’re on business trips. Highly recommend using this hotel. When I show up I have been there so many times that management just smiles like I’m home. It’s actually kind of funny. I get a better reception from them than I do my daughter when I come home from a five day trip. if you’re looking for a reasonably placed stay, you can’t go wrong going here. The owner of this motel must have a large family to get that many decent reviews. This place was dirty and poorly kept. If you think you can stick it out and just get some sleep, be prepared for it to sound like there’s a dry cleaner business next door, your neighbors faucet to sound like a hose spaying directing at your wall, pillows that will send you directly to the chiropractor, and the 24/7 Dennys lights shining directly into your eyes all night. But the air conditioner did work. So there’s that.
