Great experience! Upon arrival our AC wasn't working and we were quickly given another room that was close by and slightly bigger so it worked out great! We enjoyed the free breakfast with hot and cold options.

This property was shown on Expedia to be nice and updated. It was not. The smoke alarm was hanging from the ceiling the floors and doors and furniture were old and scraped.
Susan
Clean room, helpful staff even though we didn't have that much interaction other than check in. Breakfast was included which was nice. Close enough to walk about a mile to downtown. Was there in a Thursday which is farmers market might downtown and you can catch the free trolley to take you there steps from the front of the hotel.
Suzanne
Basically never stay here! I was given a room right next to the lobby which had a queen sized bed when I paid for a King. They said they couldn't do anything because everything was sold out! Hard to believe! It sounded like a Helicopter was trying to land behind the room ALL NIGHT due to some equipment that runs behind that area. There is no mirror in the bathroom. Only 1 plug in the room which was difficult to access, The fridge was not on. No soap in the bathroom to wash hands. I could go on and on. I'm not a picky person, but this place is the worst!
Michael

A good value for the location.
Valerie Clare
This is merely an overpriced dumpy motel. Quite a disappointment after staying across the street in an exponentially nicer room at Applefarm inn for less! The walls are just painted white cement and the room was cluttered with three (3?!?) large dressers. Not cozy at all and not a place you want to spend any time in, and yet they charge as if it were a fancy place. The breakfast is like gas station food.
Gabrielle
The hotel was clean, the staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was okay but not fancy. There were a few things broken in the room. A lamp and a missing handle in the kitchenette. There was a sharp screw sticking out where the handle should be. We didn’t have small children with us so we didn’t worry about it. It was nice to have the kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave. There were also 2 cook tops but we didn’t use those. The beds were comfortable but had an older look to the frames.
Namrata
Horrible. Photos are misleading. Will never stay at this motel turned hotel — with terrible customer service.
Belinda
Nice place. Will stay here again.
Darin
Last time that I stayed here, they only had a continental free breakfast. They have made it much better with eggs, sausage, waffles, and other good options.
The staff is super friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We got 3 rooms. My sister thought her bed felt too firm, but the rest of us were fine.

We enjoyed our stay at Sands. It is our go to place to stay in SLO. The staff is always very friendly. We enjoy the clean rooms, the coffee and morning breakfast. Location is less than a mile to the Cal Poly campus in one direction and the downtown shops and restaurants in the other. Highly recommend as an affordable option to many of the other places that are similar for a much higher cost.
Thomas
Everything was great Loved the free breakfast.
Gary
Nice two night stay. Breakfast was good. Room was clean.
Hertsel
Bad mattress, had a hard time with it, bad pillows too, otherwise a nice place to stay, not too expensive either
Kirby
Our door was broken. Hard to open and close. Not enough accessible outlets.
Terri
The staff was great and helpful but the first room ended up having a clog in the toilet. Apparently it affected the row of rooms we were in. They moved us to another room. The room was bigger and had a kitchenette but the bed was old and sagged in and I found a bug in the kitchenette.
Jenifer
It felt a bit dated and not clean
Kenneth
Meh. It was ok. The main hotel strip is Monterey Rd /St and there are many other options. Would I stay again? Probably not but I’d go back to SLO in a heartbeat.
Kenneth Martin
Plumbing backed up, toilet blocked twice in one day. Exercise room equipment was in very poor condition. Breakfast food was below average.
Clare
The room and bathroom were clean although the shower was on the small side.
ksenia
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed at for the price. The property is extremely outdated and desperately needs renovation. The windows do not open, the walls are paper thin — you can hear everything from the rooms next door, even people sneezing. There were barely any outlets available to charge devices.
The included breakfast was disgusting — I am not even sure it could be called breakfast. The gym was also closed during our stay.
Overall, the experience was honestly unbelievable for what they charge.

This is an older hotel that has remodeled the rooms. It is clean, comfortable and easy access from freeway. The best feature of this hotel is the big well maintained swimming pool. The free breakfast is ample but not great. The new waffle maker is great! For a California hotel the fresh fruit is very sad. I gave the hotel all good stars because it works well for us.
Janelle
The breakfast was a basic continental with a waffle maker. A good value stay in SLO.

The only thing saving this place is that the staff/front person was nice and that it has an awesome location but this place is really bad based on the price paid due to these reasons:
1) A/C unit didn’t work I came in with my family and two kids (two under two) we reported that the air conditioning was not working around 7 pm we were all sweating and they said we could only change rooms that no one could come and check it. Imagine switching rooms with two little kids going to sleep?
2) Bathroom did not flush we had to try many times in different ways and we struggle with it
3) If you’re with a family don’t recommend there were so many parties and loud music until late and we could hear them next to our wall
4) outside the room we found liquor bottles/cans/cigarretes in multiple spots every day during our stay
5) minor not terrible but nowhere to get waters or complimentary waters included unless you walk to gas station
I am disappointed for the price we paid and that we stayed here it did not made our vacation memorable with our family.

Nice friendly staff, clean, comfortable room, actually it needed more electrical outlets, refrigerator was kinda wonky. Breakfast was the same everyday, eggs were watery. Breakfast lady was friendly.
Barbara
Clean and staff were helpful. Bathroom didn’t have any soap to shower nor hand soap. Good thing I had a bar of soap
Deborah
I liked the king bed very comfirtable. Our room location was close to parking and the pool. Pool area very clean .water chilly.
Jason
I don't trust hotel.com at this point. Reviews bragged about breakfast. It was mediocre. Hotel was run down hard mattresses.
Hotel.com is more interested in making money vs being transparent about hotel conditions. I have never been happy with the hotels through hotel.com
I recommend hotel tonight. Better prices better hotels

Nice front desk reception

C+ Breakfast. Low grade yogurt with aspartame used as a sweetner. Carcinogenic. Eggs & sausage poor quality. Bagel & cream cheese good. Coffee C+
Parking spaces are okay and wide enough.
Room 131. Bathtub is dangerous. Slopes down towards the drain. Flimsy plastic cups in the room.
Bed was uncomfortable, lumpy, sheets were not tight and pillows lumpy/out of shape.
Front door not sealed properly. At night see light from outside. The accommodations do not warrent the cost. Very disappointing.

Parking was safe and easy to find. The staff overall was friendly and helpful. The suites are very spacious!

Neighboring room occupants were up the ENTIRE night and the walls were so thin I could hear their conversation…otherwise clean room and friendly staff..

Good!

Overall, my stay went well. There were 2 glitches that required maintenance intervention, but the staff responded immediately and in a friendly manner, and I had to wait just until the next day for one curtain rod fix.
The room was large and clean, the bathroom was very nice, there was plenty of room to store clothing, the shampoo/conditioner, hair dryer and such were much appreciated, as were the refrigerator and microwave, and I was happy to have breakfast available. Parking was ample ... the pool was a nice size, though I didn't use it, due to temperature and my schedule.
The only downside was the amount of noise I could hear from the adjoining room ... the door in between does not provide much of a sound barrier ... it wasn't constant and didn't interfere too terribly much, but it was noticeable.
I would stay there again.

Terrible. Not worth the few dollars you save to stay here. Sooooo dirty and staff is so rude. Had to leave and get a different hotel room.
Forrest
Wouldn't t be a place I'd stay again. The pictures online definitely looked better than in person. Overall things seemed a little run down. The walls, door, windows were all super thin and we constantly got woken up.
Ronald
The staff was very attentive and polite. We arrived after hours, and even the over-the-phone team was polite and accommodating. The place is older, sure. But the cleanliness and price point can’t be beat. The room smelled nice and clean. Clean linens. Newer furniture. Would recommend.
Christine
If you want to be,awake all night due to the very loud partying nocturnal guests in many rooms this is the place for you
Maria
Room was clean and staff friendly. The rooms are nice. Pool clean and parking was safe. Best, it was close to SLO.

Clean room, room has damp smell. Furnishing are a little tired. Good proximity to Cal Poly.
Alice
Parking is tight, bathroom was a little dirty. There was only 2 electrical outlets in the whole room.
Mark
Because of the way the balcony was constructed Room 264 flooded because of rain. The balcony filled with water like a bathtub and poured into the room. Since it was late at night, the front desk was closed and the “emergency” phone number went to somebody in San Francisco who said they couldn’t do anything for me. Also , because it was late I could not get another room. We slept with a lake surrounding us in our beds. Also, I was informed the next morning they were working on resolving the issue. However, they still rented us the room KNOWING there was an issue. I will be contacting the Fire Marshall and City District Attorney. This room should have never been rented. Did I mention the ceiling started to leak as well!!!
Holly
Easy parking and walk to campus, plus a few restaurants.
Teresa
The hotel is run down. No fan in bathroom, paint chipping off everywhere. Hair on sheets. Only one umbrella at pool and it’s busted. I pictured a retro cool hotel. It’s needs major renovation. AC in our suite did not work. Dirt beside beds and water pressure was terrible.
Margo
In town for a couple of days for family business. Location is ideal, area is okay, first night there was tons of noise from not sure where. Brought it up to hotel staff, next nights the noise was less.
Janis
Wasn’t the best, wasn’t the worst. The bed was not very comfortable. I put the do not disturb sign up and someone took it. I could tell someone came in my room and emptied trash but they didn’t leave clean towels. The staff was very friendly

Great parking for my oversized vehicle

Our unit smelled like sewage and hairs on nightstand :(
Susan
This was an excellent value and the room had everything needed. However, the shower door seemed to be a retrofit (remodeled into a space that didn't really have room for what was needed). The smaller shower had a fold in the center of it and you had to get inside and then unfold the door to close it. It made getting in and out of the shower a bit of work and if you needed to grab any amenities (personal toiletries) the only place to set them was on the windowsill outside of the shower. It was difficult to maneuver the folding door to access them and made showering a chore.

Awesome Experience
Carolyn
We really appreciated the bountiful breakfast in the morning with hot scrambled eggs, waffles, and a nice choice of other tasty breakfast food. The fitness center had a nice variety in equipment, more than I've noticed at most motels that have fitness rooms. Also, the pool and hot tub we're clean and good condition. And they covered garage, we were able to charge our AE at Level 1 overnight, increasing the kilowatt hours from 57% up to 72%,, for free.
Hamid
Half of the stuff in the room frig/microwave was not working due to the plug issues. No plug outlet to charge the computer/phone. No possibility to take bath since the the drain stopper was missing. Very poor conditions with pillows. Will not go back there.
Heather
I didn’t make it to the gym or breakfast. Didn’t have time. Overall, my stay was fine.
Veronica
Unfortunately, there was a problem with other guest at around 12:49 am. There was screaming and fighting outside. I'm not sure if the hotel staff tried to stop the unruly behavior which was disrupting the sleep of the other guest.
Other than that, the hotel is good for an overnight stay and breakfast was typical.

Room dirty from patchwork, terrible patchwork, iron missing cover, tub missing plug. Front desk clerk- she was extremely rude and unwilling to help.
ROBERT
Clean room, friendly staff.
Claudia
I had to leave two days early due to emergency, i was told i could get credits for nights unused but after i left i never heard back from hotel. Hot tub was also very dirty

I was in SLO on business and found the Sands incredibly affordable and comfortable. The rooms are large. The bed and bedding felt upscale and super comfortable. Bathrooms are newly remodeled. The front desk associate was very helpful and let me have a late checkout although I didn’t give her much notice, I was on a deadline and forgot while I was working on my room. The cleaning staff was friendly and professional. Overall I would stay here again. The only criticism is the noise from neighboring room is easily heard but the guests were partying so I suspect other business travelers would be much quieter.
Maria
Great value for the price. Rooms are spacious, in great conditions, and with amazing furniture. 20 minute walk from downtown and Cal Poly. Highly recommend for your stay in SLO.
Henry
Room was not well cleaned between customers and our two visits within a weeks time
Duane
Spacious room. Good shower. Nic breakfast. Ten minutes from downtown SLO.
Lynnea
Room was out dated, tv and channels were very old and nothing to watch besides news and the price is right. Staff was great the room was just not up to par
nicola
The whole property is ill kept. The staff seem disenfranchised. Everything is run down. The back of the hotel has a huge dump area where either old bedding or yet to be washed is sprawled.
Jamikia
Very clean and nice staff :)
Gregg
Staff was very pleasant, but the room was in poor condition. Missing a mirror, lots of scuffs on the walls, dirty windows, no hangars for the clothes rack, no closet, juts felt generally run down. And not cheap...$275 a night.
Carl
Decent bed. Great bath with rain shower head and wand attachment. Decent breakfast.
Gwendolyn
The outside of the hotel has been remodeled and looks really nice, so we were expecting the rooms to be updated as well. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.
When we first got to our room, the bathroom looked like it had just been used. There was a towel on the floor, a wet washcloth left in the shower, and some tiles were missing in the shower. I went to the front desk to ask for a different room, and the staff member was very apologetic and switched us right away, which I appreciated.
The second room was cleaner and better overall, but still had issues. The water pressure was very weak, and the toilet didn’t flush well. The walls are also very thin — we were on the bottom floor and could hear a lot of noise from outside as well as from the room above us.
The staff did their best to make it right, but the rooms themselves are dated and could definitely use some maintenance and updates.

We've stayed at the Sands multiple times - and usually love it. This time, we checked in at 4pm, and they had \"no more rooms of our type\" - check in starts at 3, but apparently people checked in early. We ended up in a room with one King (but have a tall teenage boy) who ended up having to sleep on a sofa bed. The Sands said they would refund us to make up for the inconvenience, but ended up giving us $20 for the inconvenience. I felt they could have figured out a different solution, or refunded us a larger portion of our stay, since we had reserved a 2Q bedroom MONTHS ago. I understand they overbooked, but they didn't try hard to accommodate us nor make up for the situation we were in. We were truly disappointed on this visit.
Hugo
Yes, our suite was very clean and spacious. Also, the staff was very friendly and courteous.
Crystal
My room had a leak in the ceiling and my things got wet, the phone in the room was disconnected and when I called the front office I had to do so with my cell phone and the mini refrigerator wasnt latch on so the door kept falling when you opened it.
Michael
Great location, clean rooms, comfortable beds.
Carolina
The ADA bathroom is not designed for the water to slope down to the shower drains so it made a mess of the entire bathroom floor:(
The split ac system is so dirty with dusk and the room floor has lots of cracked damages.
The pool area was missing towels and the jacuzzi looks so dirty.

The room was nice and the beds comfortable. The gentleman who greated us was very kind and sociable. There grounds were kept very clean, as well.
John
They put an elephant in the room above us they were so loud. And the bed was hard, TV was small and didn't work picture was frozen a lot and hard to change channel. Parking was awful. Room was clean, workers were polite and worked for a place to crash but won't be back.
Heidi
Hotel has been remodeled but bed was off frame and noisy and mini fridge was loud and running most of the night. For the location and price it’s fine. Just wasn’t my best time staying there this time.
I have stayed there over past 7 years and have watched it change with many different owners and managers.
