Exceptional location in Avila Beach with easy access to Alapay tasting room, Peloton tasting room and Avila Wine and Roasting tastings. The property itself is very hospitable with a common room set up to accommodate morning croissants and coffee, afternoon chips and salsa, a wine-centered happy hour in the late afternoon and pie and/or cookies at 8pm. It is much more geared towards older adults and we very much appreciated that maturity, quiet, and slower-paced energy.

I rarely write reviews, but was compelled to write this one because I have been very disappointed in a number of our accommodations, even after reading numerous reviews before choosing a property. I was therefore a little skeptical about the Avila La Fonda. We were pleasantly surprised. The room was wonderful, the amenities outstanding, and the staff was very accommodating and efficient.

The town is slightly off the beaten track...resulting in a lovely little vacation spot...Avila La Fonda has everything from cookies to pies and ice cream for dessert in the lounge. I'm trying hard to think of something they don't provide....ah I've got it ...they don't clean the windshield on my car in the garage...not that any other hotel does.

So many little touches not found in other hotels - complimentary snacks and water in the room, heated towel warmer, ceiling fan… not to mention all the extra little receptions - wine and cheese at 6pm, pie at 8pm, and to do for croissants for breakfast. This hotel is a gem if you are looking for a botique style stay. The design is colorful with a lot of attention to details. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Everything is clean. The service is extremely friendly and welcoming. There are a number of complimentary food servings during the day in the common area (morning croissants, afternoon wine tasting, etc.).

Weird experience here. I stayed on my way to LA and it was an impulse booking. I was greeted with a very unfriendly staff at reception. The hotel and room are dated but clean. There was no shampoo and the shower water temp was lukewarm so it made for a less than enjoyable morning. The staff later was kind and offered treats in the lobby which I appreciated. Won't stay here again

That same room also provides movies to borrow and chairs to take to the beach. There are several times to get food for free. It was so much fun.

Like stepping back in time to an era of full custom service. Hand prepared charcuterie board in the room with a bottle of champagne on arrival, grab and go snacks and drinks, happy hour cocktail and snacks, late night pie, and friendly smiles. Honestly haven’t seen that in decades. Why stay in SLO when this is right down the road in a splendid coastal setting.

What a wonderful surprise was the La Fonda Hotel from the delightful check in staff to the “goodie” basket and all the receptions. The room was immaculate and the bed most comfortable. The hotel was just decorating for Christmas which gave it a magical atmosphere. The staff was to helpful and so eager to please. The location of the hotel is excellent to restaurants, wine tasting and walks on the beach. We highly recommend a stay at this lovely, cozy beach town hotel.

They had several free dining opportunities. Breakfast was croissants, juice, coffee and fruit. Afternoon was chips and salsa beer. Happy hour was charcuterie tray and wine, after dinner was pie and ice cream. These were all delicious. The hotel is older and several upgrades could be made. Furniture is very old and scratched. Too much furniture for such a small room. Stand alone air conditioner very noisy. Large refrigerator, electric stove and dishwasher were not necessary for us. There are convenient eateries within walking distance. Shower door would not close properly and a few light bulbs needed to be replaced. Adorable spanish style hotel just a block from the beach, with extras like daily wine receptions, breakfast, beer and salsa in the afternoon and pie for dessert in the evening. Nice roomy jacuzzi tub. Wish the toilets weren't so low to the ground (kinder on the knees for your older clients). Dining and shopping options just outside the front door. Beautiful beach with little crowds.

Stayed for two nights mid-week. It's really everything you can ask for in a small property so close to the beach, without all the major hotel chain fluff thown in.

Water for coke, popcorn for beef jerky. Just swap it, no hassle and nobody to talk to).
The room has a full kitchen, a small island table in the middle with a nice Samsung TV and a balcony. The bathroom is famtastic as well with a large soaker tub and his + hers sinks. One thing to note is the toilet doesn't have a lid and it's located directly in front of the shower. As this is an older property that makes sense, just personal preference.
In closing: from the curated decor and friendly staff, to the daily homemade croissants, wine tastings and nacho bar(oh and pie time from 8-9!), this is truly the only place you should stay in the Avila Beach, SLO or Pismo area. 11/10

This is a very charming small hotel (maybe 30 or so rooms?), kept in immaculate condition, and staffed by some of the friendliest people you could ever hope to meet.
They went out of their way to be helpful and friendly.
The area is very scenic, and there are numerous stores and restaurants for those so inclined.

Amazing Stay!
The staff at Avila La Fonda Hotel were incredible—so friendly and welcoming. We loved the homemade croissants in the morning and the pie and ice cream in the evening. Beautiful rooms just steps from the beach, with great food spots nearby. Highly recommend!

the picture don’t do justice for this hotel. This hotel is so cute, pets are welcome on the first floor, and staff are great. Throughout the day hotel offers pastries, cocktails, pies with ice cream and a charcuterie board with wine. I would definitely recommend and return back with my dog. Paulina is an amazing host made us feel right at home😊

This property is unique, and the staff members made this visit pleasant. The hotel is small and older, but maintained in excellent condition. The common area and rooms were clean. The location is perfect. The front desk staff member, Paulina, went above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. Our party interacted with her throughout our stay. Paulina gave us recommendations for places to visit and always greeted us with a smile. This type of customer service is a rarity in today's society. The freshly baked pies and croissants were always a good treat. I will be staying here when visiting the area. Paulina, we hope to see you when we come back and with the same enthusiasm.

Great service and they have 4 different services throughout the day from breakfast to pie it was excellent. They also have a gift basket waiting in the room as well as a gift on departure. Great location near beach and restaurants. A bit outdated, but that gives it certain charm.

The croissants, snacks, wine and cheese and the pies! The hotel atmosphere and comfortable rooms and the proximity to the beach are great. The restaurant choices are limited in the immediate area (Pismo has more to offer if you want that). We have been to La Fonda several times and would go back again for sure!

This little hotel is such a gem in the quaint little sleepy beach city of Avila. We stayed for our 21st wedding anniversary and loved it. Every part of it. All the extra little treats for guests throughout the day and how it felt like a little community. Your staff is so friendly too!
The only complaint I have is that the only good lighting to put makeup on is in the bathroom and I’m only 5 feet tall and the mirrors are so high that I had to stand on my tippy toes to put makeup on haha. If we can lower it an inch or two, we’d be golden. It’s more of a “me” problem though, that’s why I didn’t deduct any stars.

This is such a little gem. Quaint and charming Spanish decor. Only one half block to the beach. Free happy hour, coffee and pastries and late night pie with ice cream. Plus a complementary basket of goodies upon arrival. I could not recommend this place more. It’s adults only so very quiet and peaceful.
